Scrooge sighed as he heard the voicemail, though he couldn’t contain a smile on his beak.  He looked around to see if anyone had been listening.  He was alone.  Good.  He couldn’t deny he’d been thinking about rekindling them too.  After all they’d been through....  He paused and gathered himself together before calling her on his cell phone.

Goldie did neither, but she couldn’t help but freeze at the sudden approach from the inventor. “   Wh-What?         Why?! Who are you?!   “

          The fowl glared at the other, and then looked down at the ground. Great. Fantastic! WONDERFUL!! Had he been expecting guests in his laboratory, he would have been nice! He didn’t remember Scrooge or any one telling him that someone was coming. Looking out in the room, he couldn’t say that part of his exclamation wasn’t for his own fear.

                              ❝  UNLESS  you  feel  like  falling  a  few  hundred  miles  underground  I  suggest  you  listen  to  the  genius  saving  your  life  right  now  . . . .  Now  I’m  going  to  need  you  to  give  me  your  phone  .  Mine  may  or  may  not  be  at  the  bottom  of  the  chasm  .  ❞

          Falling? Chasm? Sure enough, in his lab was torn in two, and he had just stopped her from falling in. Did he know who she was? Nope. Did he care? Not particularly. At least he wouldn’t until he could get to the other side of the lab without nearly dying.

Oh, dear...José might not have looked the type, but he had definitely felt heartache. Being away from lovers, feeling like they didn’t understand...like he didn’t understand. He didn’t like seeing the ugly side of love rear its head, as in Goldie’s case, but he felt compelled to try to help.

“There, there, Goldie.” He rubbed the top of her hand with his thumb, his voice low and soothing. “I know how you feel. But I don’t think it’s impossible. You love him, yes?”
