there's another tragic but delightful thing about kyle being desperate to connect with the corps to the point he remakes it (it happens for other reasons too in universe and most certainly for Greater Reasons as far as editorial mandate goes) and then becoming wl and flying solo again because once again he's the only one of his kind.
It Keeps Happening!!! the narrative is circular and harrowing over here!!!

Top two favorite Hal Jordan relationship dynamics/partners + two least favorites.
Top two fave ones: Guy/Hal and Hal/Kyle (runner-up is John/Hal). Why? Because the focus is often balanced between all characters
Least fave: Br*ce/Hal and B*rry/Hal. Why? It's usually all about either Br*ce or B*rry, Hal could be replaced by any other character and not much would change. Also the way B*rry is written isn't like Brry at all?
Edit: wait I first understood this as like in fanon, but maybe you mean in canon?
Then my answer is:
Top fave: GLC/Hal, Sinestro/Hal (runner-up Carol/Hal)
Least fave: Huh. I don't know if I have a least favorite in canon

🖊️💖🌙 for the fic asks!! <3
thank u!! <33
fanfic asks
💖 What do you like most about your own writing?
answered already but another thing i like about my writing is how i write emotions, it’s something i get often in comments and feedback how it’s easy to feel what the characters are thinking or feeling themselves
🌙 What time of day do you prefer to write? Why?
answered before too, i prefer the evening/night
🖊 Post a snippet from a current WIP.
ok so this is a wip that i love very much but only go back to sporadically, but i do want to finish it one day because it’s a/ with iolande and soranik and it’s criminal how little stuff there is about them out there and b/ mix up that investigation/politics nature of the glc that i love a lot, it’s really fun writing them doing their lantern job and helping on a smaller scale than ‘end of the universe’ level threat the gl deal with often. + i like thinking about the politics of interplanetary cooperation and cohabitation and how that would go, and those two are a pair really well suited for that given their background and character
There are no grand committees to welcome them, only a small gathering of officials waiting for them near the building that houses the council’s meetings. Soranik lands first, letting her green aura fade as Iolande walks up to her so that they can meet them side by side.
“Green Lanterns!” A small alien, even for her species, walks up to them. “///, I overlook interplanetary relations for the council, and will be your main interlocutor for the duration of your stay in order to facilitate our discussions here.”
“We look forward to working with you,” Iolande says, amicable as always, her political training always coming in handy in these situations. “I am Princess Iolande of Betrassus, and here is my partner Soranik Natu, of Korugar.” Dropping the name of her planet is smart, even as /// recoils. They are dealing with issues coming from the inside of their planet, not an outsider, and this particular part of their sector knows Korugar’s history well.
“May we bring you the assistance you need,” Soranik tells /// with a solemn nod. As much as small talk is needed, she’d rather cut it short. She feels the look Iolande gives her but ignores it in favor of keeping her gaze on their host.
“Of course,” Smart woman, she reads easily between the lines. Must be, Soranik muses, in order to be in such a powerful position in this world’s politics. “We thank you for coming in on such short notice. If you would follow me, I’ll show you to a room where we can talk about this in more detail.”

MRA lies about men's and women's shelters
So, I don't know about you, but years ago I watched "The redpill" documentary.
In it, they named "Erin Pizzey" as the women who funded the first women's shelter in the UK. The story is that "evil feminists" threatened her for "speaking the truth" about Domestic Violence, "Truth" that feminists did't like because it portrays men as victims too.
The thing is, that Pizzey in reality was criticized by feminists for saying that women, victims of domestic violence, were equally violent as men and "addicted to violence". That sounded as victim blaming for feminists. (and it is). She also tried to say that domestic violence is not caused by misogyny, power dynamics, or others, but it is caused by "hormones" and "genetics". (What can we do with violent men then? lmao?)
Pizzey has also accused feminists of shooting her dog or even threaten her with bomb her. But none of this have been proved, she didn't reported anything of that.
The "official" (MRA) version of what happened when she tried to open a men's shelter is that "evil feminists" prevented her from doing that and finally chased out of the country.
The truth, the one that is on her memories, is that she tried to open it and didn't get funding. It's not clear if the shelter was for men and boys who were victims of DV or the abusers, since she believed that domestic violence is mutual and both parties are abusive. In her own memories she talks about an abusive male as a "Nice Guy" and she doesn't make it clear how she asked people to help with the shelter.
"I asked the Greater London Council, by then a booming busi! ness with a number of colourful characters working from the banks of the Thames, to give me a house for men. The idea was to provide shelter for men and teenagers who had been at the receiving end of violence or serious abuse from partners or parents. I was duly offered a huge vacant house in north London, which I was delighted to accept. I rather naïvely assumed that the wealthy men and women who were willing to support refuges for women and chil! dren would feel the same way about vulnerable and fragile men.
I very soon discovered that no one was willing to give me a penny for my men’s project. We opened the house, and I faced another stark reality. Whereas filling a house with women and children resulted in the women quickly forming a community and taking charge of their own lives, filling a house with men resulted in them disappearing into a room and sitting helplessly on their beds or else sulking because there was no one to run the place and take care of cooking and other practical matters
In vain we talked to them about the set!up in Chiswick. We talked about self!help. We talked about how we would decorate the satellite houses ourselves as well as do minor repairs. We talked about their responsibility to take care of one another. We met with blank silence. The men were not only unwilling or incapable of caring of each other in the house but we were unable to get any male volunteers to help out. The men’s project petered out, and I gave the property back to the GLC.
(...)Meanwhile I learned a big lesson. Women are naturally tribal. They will organize and help one another and take care of each other’s children. Men are different. Most are solitary and invest their emotions only in their partners and their offspring. The problem with the men’s house was that we did not have the resources to send a posse of women to work there to teach the men how to look after themselves.(...)"
So, basically:
The state gave Pizzey a house for men.
Rich men (there are more rich men than women in the world) didn't give a shit and didn't donate to help men.
Men, when they were in the house, didn't help each other. They were incapable or doing the cooking and the cleaning.
There were not male volunteers to help those men. Men didn't give a shit about men.
Pizzey thought about the possibility of making women take care of those men and wipe their asses, but they could not afford it.
Here it happened what we all know what happens. Men are good to cry about "feminazis" not caring about them and need to create fake storys to back up their tantrums. When given the opportunity, they don't really give a single shit about men's problems. The male victims also want women to clean their assholes and do the job for them, while victim women look after themselves and other women.
And it still is a thing today, MRAs can't and won't stop talking about Erin Pizzey as a major figure in their movement, even when she has not done shit in decades to actually help men. They need her because of the anti-feminist storytelling, not because of her activism. I haven't met any single MRA that has read Pizzey books, and it shows.

5 min read NASA, Pacific Disaster Center Increase Landslide Hazard Awareness Communities worldwide now have access to a powerful tool to increase their awareness of landslide hazards, thanks to NASA and the Pacific Disaster Center. A humanitarian worker from USAID observes the impacts of a landslide. USAID deployed an elite Disaster Assistance Response Team on Nov. 17, 2020, to lead the U.S. response to Hurricanes Eta and Iota.USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance After years of development and testing, NASA’s Landslide Hazard Assessment for Situational Awareness model (LHASA) has been integrated into the Pacific Disaster Center’s (PDC) multi-hazard monitoring, alerting, and decision-support platform, DisasterAWARE. LHASA allows researchers to map rainfall-triggered landslide hazards, giving DisasterAWARE users around the world a robust tool for identifying, tracking, and responding to these threats. The aim is to equip communities with timely and critical risk awareness that bolsters disaster resilience and safeguards lives and livelihoods. Landslides cause thousands of deaths and billions of dollars in damage every year. Developing countries often bear disproportionate losses due to lack of access to hazard early warning systems and other resources for effective risk reduction and recovery. Reports from the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction emphasize that early warning systems and early action are among the most effective ways to decrease disaster-related deaths and losses. The distribution of reported fatalities from 10,804 rainfall-triggered landslides in NASA’s Global Landslide Catalog (GLC) from 2007 to 2017. White dots represent incidents with zero reported fatalities and dots in the color scale from pink to red represent incidents in the range of 1-5000 fatalities. The NASA landslides team, based primarily out of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, develops the Global Landslide Catalog and LHASA with support from NASA’s Disasters program. NASA Scientific Visualization Studio “Some local authorities develop their own systems to monitor landslide risk, but there isn’t a global model that works in the same way. That’s what defines LHASA: it works all the time and it covers most regions of the world,” says Robert Emberson, NASA Disasters associate program manager and a key member of the NASA landslides team. “Thanks to our collaboration with the Pacific Disaster Center, this powerful landslide technology is now even more accessible for the communities that need it most.” LHASA uses a machine learning model that combines data on ground slope, soil moisture, snow, geological conditions, distance to faults, and the latest near real-time precipitation data from NASA’s IMERG product (part of the Global Precipitation Measurement mission). The model has been trained on a database of historical landslides and the conditions surrounding them, allowing it to recognize patterns that indicate a landslide is likely. The result is a landslide “nowcast” – a map showing the potential of rainfall-triggered landslides occurring for any given region within the past day. This map of hazard likelihood can help agencies and officials rapidly assess areas where the current landslide risk is high. It can also give disaster response teams critical information on where a landslide may have occurred so they can investigate and deploy life-saving resources.   In 2021, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, triggering a series of landslides across the country. Landslides can destroy infrastructure and impede the movement of people and life-saving aid. United Nations World Food Programme Partnering to Protect the Vulnerable Generating landslide nowcasts is merely the first step. To be truly effective, vulnerable communities must receive the data in a way that is accessible and easy to integrate into existing disaster management plans. That’s where the Pacific Disaster Center comes in. PDC is an applied research center managed by the University of Hawaii, and it shares NASA’s goal to reduce global disaster risk through innovative uses of science and technology.  Its flagship DisasterAWARE software provides early warnings and risk assessment tools for 18 types of natural hazards and supports decision-making by a wide range of disaster management agencies, local governments, and humanitarian organizations. Prominent users include the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), and the World Food Programme (WFP). “The close pairing of our organizations and use of PDC’s DisasterAWARE platform for early warning has been a special recipe for success in getting life-saving information into the hands of decision-makers and communities around the world,” said Chris Chiesa, PDC deputy executive director. The collaboration with PDC brings NASA’s landslide tool to tens of thousands of existing DisasterAWARE users, dramatically increasing LHASA’s reach and effectiveness. Chiesa notes that teams in El Salvador, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic have already begun using these new capabilities to assess landslide hazards during the 2023 rainy season. This screenshot from PDC’s DisasterAWARE Pro software shows LHASA landslide hazard probabilities for Myanmar in Sept. 2023. Red areas indicate the highest risk for landslide occurrence within the past three hours, while orange and yellow indicate lesser risk. Pacific Disaster Center PDC’s software ingests and interprets LHASA model data and generates maps of landslide risk severity. It then uses the data to generate landslide hazard alerts for a chosen region that the DisasterAWARE mobile app pushes to users. These alerts give communities critical information on potential hazards, enabling them to take protective measures. DisasterAWARE also creates comprehensive regional risk reports that estimate the number of people and infrastructure exposed to a disaster – focusing specifically on things like bridges, roads, and hospitals that could complicate relief efforts when damaged. This information is critical for allowing decision-makers to effectively deploy resources to the areas that need them most.  DisasterAWARE landside risk report for Myanmar, showing estimated population, infrastructure and capital exposure to landslide risk, as well as the community’s needs. Pacific Disaster Center This effort between NASA and the PDC builds upon a history of fruitful cooperation between the organizations. In 2022, they deployed a NASA global flood modeling tool to enhance DisasterAWARE’s flood early-warning capabilities. They have also shared data and expertise during multiple disasters, including Hurricane Iota in 2020, the 2021 earthquake in Haiti, and the devastating August 2023 wildfires in Maui, PDC’s base of operations. “The LHASA model is all open-source and leverages publicly available data from NASA and partners,” says Dalia Kirschbaum, lead of the NASA landslides team and director of Earth Sciences at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. “This enables other researchers and disaster response communities to adapt the framework to regional or local applications and further awareness at scales relevant to their decision-making needs.” Kirschbaum and her team were recently awarded the prestigious NASA Software of the Year award for their work developing LHASA.  Share Details Last Updated Oct 26, 2023 Related Terms EarthNatural Disasters Explore More 3 min read International Ocean Satellite Monitors How El Niño Is Shaping Up Article 1 week ago 3 min read All Together Now: Drill Joins Other Moon Rover Science Instruments Article 1 week ago 2 min read NASA’s Global Science Hackathon Attracts Thousands of Participants Article 3 weeks ago 5 min read NASA, Pacific Disaster Center Increase Landslide Hazard Awareness

honestly been wanting to rant about this for a while but I truly do think the john stewart/shayera hol ship ended up damaging their characters rather than helping them.
to start, john was originally an architect before the justice league show gave him the military background. since geoff johns worked on one of the episodes in jlu, it was clear he was a jlu fan & basically incorporated that into comic john. by doing so, we ended up with one of the worst written john stewarts in history, a john that was so patriotic and explicitly said that he was willing to kill people for america. while gj does get backlash for how he was written from john fans, I do think jl + jlu should be incorporated in that too as it was what started the military origin in the first place. it's true that the show led to john's popularity but outside of that, it didn't really benefit him in the comics. plus the main reason the origin was given was because they wanted him & shayera to have something to relate to in the show which was very stupid considering john was already apart of the glc. but apparently that wasn't enough? and then there's bruce timm being the weirdo that he is, he apparently didn't like john's origin in the comics cause it addressed racism like one time. as if anyone was even asking him to do that???
Tumblr media
despite her rising popularity from the shows, dc instead decided to kill shayera off while jlu was airing during pre-n52. I do think this also links to jl + jlu having shayera go by hawkgirl instead of her comic alias, hawkwoman. i was actually surprised when I first read that comic shayera despised being called hawkgirl & I will never understand why the show proceeded to call her that. all it did was confuse people since kendra had arrived to comics two years before the show aired. it was clear that kendra had taken all the hawkgirl hype as she was the person who actually went by that alias in the comics.
Tumblr media
now I'll actually dissect the ship. for the record, I am well aware that this is an alternate universe, but despite this, I still think the ship did more damage than good to the gp's perception of these characters.
like I said, the build up towards john/shayera was genuinely good. it was the classic slowburn between partners, then friends, to lovers. but the problem is, they had to retcon a lot of shayera's background in order to make the relationship actually work. you see, the jl crew was originally planning on making katar hol (hawkman) the villain who initiates the invasion & physically abuses shayera. anyone who has read hawkworld + any comic of katar/shayera altogether would know how insanely out of character this would have been for him, and for the sake of this post, I'll be referring to his hawkworld characterization. the crew ended up pushing the idea back not because of how ooc it was, but because they were scared of the backlash from comic fans. in the comics, shayera was assigned as katar's partner in the thanagarian force, except that the thanagarian government wanted shayera to specifically spy on katar prior to their plans for an invasion. the thanagarian government knew katar would most likely resist their ideas & wanted shayera to tell them everything she finds out about him. when the betrayal was revealed, this obviously hurt katar. shayera ended up disobeying due to her developing feelings for katar & together, they stopped the invasion. the invasion in question was also being initiated by shayera's corrupt father and when you look back at it, the show was kind of bland in comparison. the show CONSTANTLY reduced shayera's character in regards to her being a love interest, not once did we ever get a moment where we actually discovered what her life on thanagar was like. which is what the hawkworld comics did. my point is: if you have to ruin a character to make a relationship work, then maybe the ship just isn't good.
and honestly this is me being nice in my analysis because nothing about john/shayera was even original writing wise. most if not all aspects of their relationship were stolen from katar/shayera relationship in the hawkworld comics and anyone who actually read them would agree with me on this.
one key point that bothered me in regards to jlu was the origin they had given shayera regarding her reincarnations. while dwayne mcduffie revealed that bashari doesn't actually exist & that it was john/shayera's feelings messing with the asbsorbacron, it's obviously not the case for the eyes of the gp. the irony is that jlu stans tend to complain about hawkman/shayera, talking about how boring it is since they're reincarnations when jlu ended up doing the same thing for john/shayera, by having chay-ara cheat on katar with bashari. this + their son, rex stewart, was jlu's way of saying john/shayera were always destined for each other. this isn't any different from the reincarnation cycle regarding the hawks, but for some reason, it is to some. what I find funny is that people genuinely believe that john/shayera pushes shayera in a 'solo spotlight' by keeping her away from the reincarnation process. when all it did was tie her down to it again but with a different man. the inclusion of bashari + rex stewart basically got rid of what could've made john/shayera's relationship interesting for shayera as a character. john's motivations to possibly get back with shayera suddenly weren't his own, which was why he stayed with vixen. it's also ironic that shayera was upset about this because like I said, jlu stans were saying that john/shayera pushed her in a solo spotlight despite the show tying her down to another reincarnation cycle.
i don't know if I can even stomach what they did to katma, that's literally his WIFE in the comics but the gp just considers her a fling now.
what's frustrating to me about john/shayera as a ship is that the ship altogether was done for nothing in the end. people might be wondering why john/shayera are never included for comics in main continuity. the answer is simple. dc editorial doesn't allow comic writers to include them. the irony is john/shayera was the only couple on the show that had the crew arguing with each other because not even they knew what to do with them lol. it was actually confirmed that a lot of the crew turned their back on the ship after the ancient history episode was revealed and that was when they began to despise the couple because they believed the comic reincarnation backstory being massacred was unnecessary (which is completely valid tbh).
comic writers have spoken about their love for the couple but being unable to write stories for them. wonderbat gets some content in main continuity so it's clear that dc editorial specifically has beef with john/shayera, which is why I think the ship was such a waste in the end. the ship is clearly popular with the gp but what was the point of pushing aside their canon love interests to the point where the gp's perception of their love lives is also skewed if the editorial in question doesn't even want to acknowledge them? as a comic fan, I'm simply annoyed that they couldn't have just been with their canon love interests instead of this mess.
*also i was confused in where people had gotten the idea that hawkman himself is egyptian (as aldis hodge was receiving backlash for being casted as carter hall) & it turns out that jlu was also responsible for this lol. I want to add that comic katar hol post-crisis was not egyptian, he had a native american mother & a thanagarian father. he wasn't even egyptian in the show, jlu had given the hawks an extremely racist/orientalist background where they were white passing thanagarians who crashed into earth and had taken over an Egyptian civilization of Black & brown people. and yes i say white passing cause they were still a different skin tone from the actual Egyptians and not even Bruce Timm's art style could hide that. just so many unnecessary changes when the comics were never like that.
this video also perfectly explains why their relationship went downhill: https://youtu.be/LgCjhZfJ704
