Hi! Thanks! I mostly use safety eyes (except the eyes for the skeleton bean and the Death of Rats).My nicer eyes are from here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/GlassEyesOnLineBut I make stuffed animals in such quantities that I usually get cheap eyes in bulk from amazon:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BW9JJBY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1Craft stores will also usually have good safety eyes, either in the “custom doll house and a few doll-customizing accessories” section or the “felt, pipe cleaners, and googly eyes” section but they are SO EXPENSIVE in craft stores. Okay, individual packs are probably five bucks or less, but you get like three pairs of eyes instead of ninety pairs of eyes. The nice eyes will always work and usually have a longer post and a stronger washer; every container of cheap eyes I’ve bought has at least a few eyes that are too scratched up or poorly made to use, some washers break, and the posts are usually shorter. So far, the broken eyes/broken washers ratio has mostly worked out, but just assume you’re going to find some of the eyes unusable. Or save them to be monster eyes!I’ve heard some people swear by 6060 eyes (a seller on etsy and with their own store) but I’ve never used them.Thanks for asking! If I can find where I put them, I have some really cool buttons I’m going to turn into eyes that I’ll share on this post too

I made them myself, they’re just clear cat eye safety eyes with acrylic paint on back. I think you can buy similar ones from glasseyesonline

   Day 5 | Tools! So I know most of us typically use the same tools, so I’m going to go into specifics on what I use:    Crochet hook: Boye, fluted/tapered, 3.75 mm    Yarn: Loops and threads: Impeccable    Yarn needle: Pointed & Angled    Stuffing: Loops and threads: Supreme Fiber Fill    16 mm Black, oval safety eyes from glasseyesonline (Etsy)    9 mm & 12 mm Black, round safety eyes from 6060eyes (Etsy)    Any old kid scissors, standard straight pins and bobby pins (on occasion)   Help with pattern writing: worksheets from crochetpreneur.com    A bandaid: for my yarn finger to prevent that oh so painful yarn burn!   Like I said not TOO much variety when it comes to basic tools but when you boil down to what is preferred by different makers you can experiment (if you haven’t found your creative/crochet voice or style) to find what you like, that lets you create to the best of your ability.   My last two cents here: I will say I really do prefer the Boye hook when making amigurumi solely on the fact that I like that the top has a great point to it that allows me to quickly get the hook through the tighter gaps that are needed to make ami’s.    During my work week, I am going to continue to post the #AmiguruMAY #challange (designed by the lovely @airali_gray ) posts at 5 pm.  My mid-day posts will be postponed and saved for my days off when I have more time to dink around with staging and such.  So until then stay Craftcratical! Hey there! I'm trying to get into amigurumi and I would love to know what kind of safety eyes you use and where you get them, because I can't seem to find them anywhere near where I live.

I use different sizes depending on what I’m making, but most commonly it’s the 9-12 mm sizes. I also buy the boxes of like 100 pairs on amazon that come with a few different sizes; inevitably some of the eyes and some of the washers won’t work right, but it’s still cheaper that way. When I want higher quality eyes that I absolutely know will work, I buy from GlassEyesOnline (the safety eyes sections) or 6060 (both are Etsy shops). I know from experience Glass Eyes Online has really really good customer service (I once sent something to the wrong address and they got it fixed for me). I have less experience with 6060 but I’ve heard lots of good things about them and have bought eyes from them before. I also sometimes use safety eyes I get at local craft stores, but that’s usually the most expensive option per pair of eyes. Joanns usually has a limited selection, and I’ve yet to find any at Michaels.
