So my village has a charity christmas fair on the last sunday before christmas every year. My sister is in charge of organizing prizes for the lottery/tombola, and she always writes to local businesses to donate items, gift cards, whatever. The companies are usually really generous, it's awesome. First prize is s flat screen tv from a electronics dealer.
We have one shop for home decor that's sadly giving up its business, and donated a whole box of glass decorations.
Among them, this glass shrimp. In a fancy jewelry box.
So.
Edit: sold!

@the-shrimpedium replies wouldn't let me stick a picture of Zilla in there as a reply to you but there's my old big blue queen of the tank- no clue why she turned blue but she would probably have battled me in shrimp to human hand to hand combat if I questioned it, and she had more hands than I did.
I miss that little shit and her crazy shrimp crew.
#shrimpblr#glass shrimp#I love ghosties and glass shrimp just when they're happy they always wind up looking like beautiful mottled stained glass but BLUE?#I HAS RED GREEN YELLOWS AND MIXES BUT SHE ASCENDED#Miss her a lot hahaha#the tank held a special needs little guy for a while who couldn't have tank mates for his safety#he recently passed so I can start keeping all sorts of shramp again hopefully.

Today I learned there’s a bunch of interesting shrimp, and now I want them as Cookies
I’m just going to list some I found today. I’ve already talked about Pistol Shrimp, so I won’t talk about it here
Harlequin Shrimp:
Like where do these things start and end? I don’t know, but they look really cool. I heard they can also change color based on their mood. If you were to make them a Cookie, I’d say make them a clown, perhaps for a rival circus to the Big Top Circus (that was the name of Banana and Ice Juggler’s circus, right?)
Amano Shrimp:
Okay, so maybe they’re not the most interesting looking, and maybe also not the most interesting, but still. Though also I hear that they change color based on their diet? I dunno. But what I was looking at that I thought was interesting was that they’re apparently very active cleaners. I feel like you could make them a cleaner that’s also very particular about messes, and perhaps a bit of a germaphobe? Like, if they see a mess, they just have to clean it
Vampire Shrimp:
(They apparently come in multiple colors, so I just got a few different pictures of different colors)
I think what makes them most interesting is that despite their size (apparently they’re pretty big, at least for shrimp) and name, they’re apparently rather calm and non aggressive. Also they’re supposedly pretty shy and reclusive. Honestly, it kind of reminded me of Dark Choco Cookie, which is probably a big reason I like them. Also they’re very big and bulky, which makes them look kind of cute to me, I don’t know why. Also they only come out at night, which is probably another reason for their name
I don’t have much in terms of ideas for a Vampire Shrimp Cookie, other than people finding them scary at first, only to realize they’re really not. I just wanted to show you them (also I feel like using this for a Dark Choco/Lobster kid if I ever do one)
Ghost/Glass Shrimp:
I mostly just added them because it’s an easy “ghost Cookie” if you wanted to have one. Also they’re see through, which is cool
Bay Ghost Shrimp:
Apparently these shrimps are soft, or at least softer than other shrimp. Also they have asymmetrical claws, as you can see. They apparently spend a lot of time burrowing. I’m also running out of ideas for how to turn this into a Cookie, but I thought it was neat. I suppose it would be something pertaining to its digging abilities
I think I’m gonna stop here, but still, cool shrimp
Edit: oh, also, another one, Boxer Shrimp, also known as Banded Coral Shrimp, among other names
Apparently they use their claws to clean fish and remove things like algae and parasites from them to eat. Also they can sense fish with their antenna apparently. I’d say either go the obvious route of a boxer, or something to do with their cleaning thing, though I don’t know what. Perhaps some sort of doctor? Maybe just confined to other sea creatures?
Also Fairy Shrimp
I wasn’t able to find much on them, but they’re relatively large and slow and typically used as food. Also they like to swim upside down. They’d probably make for a more cute Cookie
You know, I find it kind of ironic how I’m now thinking shrimp are really cool, despite the fact that my dad is allergic to shrimp (and I’m not sure if I am), and my family just generally dislikes seafood
#I think I started this journey bc I thought it’d be funny if Lobster had a kid that was a shrimp#since he’s probably pretty big and shrimp are tiny#and also they’re closely related#but yeah I’m going down a rabbit hole#I’m realizing most of the species I found were just aquarium shrimp not many wild ones#should probably look more at those#cookie run#cookie run oc#shrimp#harlequin shrimp#amano shrimp#vampire shrimp#glass shrimp#ghost shrimp#bay ghost shrimp#random informational that isn’t very in depth bc i’m bad at research#random stuff#boxer shrimp#banded coral shrimp#fairy shrimp

Palaemonetes paludosus better known as ghost shrimp, glass shrimp, and eastern grass shrimp, is a species of freshwater shrimp native to the southeastern United States. Here they can be found throughout freshwater ponds, lakes, and streams east of the Appalachian Mountains from Florida all the way up into New Jersey. They have also been introduced throughout California, Mexico, Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma. They are a primarily nocturnal and some what social species which lives in large groups spending there time amongst beds of various aquatic vegetation where they feed upon algae, plankton, the aquatic plants themselves, detritus, and smaller invertebrates chiefly aquatic insects and there larvae. Ghost shrimp are themselves preyed upon by various fish, crayfish, water birds, turtles, and amphibians. Reaching around 1-2 inches (25 – 50mm) in length, ghost shrimp sport a notably transparent carapace and internal tissues allowing one to see its internal organs through its integument. This clearness provides a high degree of camouflage especially in cloudy or muddy water, and is the reason for there common names. The breeding season of these shrimp varies by location and water temperature, during said time the females ovaries take on a greenish color. After mating the female will lay 8 to 35 eggs, and like many crustaceans the mother will carry her developing eggs on their abdomen until they hatch some 2 months later. Ghost shrimp larval development is short, consisting of three stages, and under ideal conditions a ghost shrimp may live upwards of a year.

Please tell you sister that she should apologize to the glass shrimp. He is beautiful.
I'm very pleased to report that she's, by now, seen the errors of her way and realized what a blessing the glass shrimp is.
The charity has given me custody, for now, to AUCTION HIM OFF! Which is very exciting! It means you will all get a chance to get him,if you really want. I'll just have to find a way to do it internationally (because i'm in Germany).
Eanwhile, here's a pic of him spooning with his new buddy, plush shrimp!

favorite part of glass onion is how EVERYTHING is addressed. EVERYTHING is a chekhov’s gun, no matter how insignificant it ends up being. EVERYTHING, every little teeny tiny comment and single camera shot and one off joke gets readdressed by the end to tie it all into a perfect little bow, and i just think that’s fucking brilliant.
#the car falling through the roof. the no smoke lawn.#the hot sauce. the taurus necklace.#ALL OF IT is brought up again by the end and it’s SO pleasing to my little shrimp brain#FAVORITE TYPE OF FILM!!!!!#glass onion

NEXT UP ON THE SEPTEMBER UPDATE
Glass animals!
These real animals have transluscent properties, where their skin is see through and you're able to see their skeleton and insides... of course I tried my best to cutify them for you all!
This is a series of charms that utilises the transparency of the acrylic to make these creatures pop out, and with the addition of double sided epoxy it gives the effect of holding a real animal (pretty weird to experience!)
With 8 designs I'm sure there's some which catch your eye 👀

I was pulling algae out of my 125 gallon saltwater tank and disturbed a ghost shrimp, who quickly shot backwards.
I didn't put ghost shrimp in this tank. So. Uh. That was a shocker.
#Pretty sure what happened#I added 3 mummichogs to the tank a month or two ago and probably netted a shrimp too#In which case it's one of our native glass shrimps. Still. Pretty interesting.

Been a while since my last shrimpkeeping post but I need to share these pics of a berried (aka egged up) carbon rili (black with clear/white midsection) neocaridina shrimp. One of my 1st gen tank-breds and it took a moment for me to realize the eggs are tinted blue because those are probably blue carbon rili shrimplets incubating in there.
How cool is that shit?
Anyway 90% of my brain is preoccupied with slowly putting together a 9-gal betta/shrimp cull tank. A tiny 10% is quietly and furiously simmering on the backburner over fic things and waiting for that 90% to drop so that I can start writing the next chapters of the 3quelfic.
#shrimpkeeping#neocaridina shrimp#neocaridina#shrimp#sometimes I think about the money I wasted trying to maintain my shrimp population before I realized the tank was the problem#after resetting the damn glass cube I've only had a handful of noticeable deaths and a massive baby boom#I really missed keeping fish tanks and man am I having a fucking fantastic time
