Rob Halford reflects on what it was like being gay in the metal scene during the 80s;
"When you think about the glam rock movement, what it was, specifically, two bands that really pushed that for me were MÖTLEY CRÜE and POISON — and, to some effect, CINDERELLA, maybe some WINGER, L.A. GUNS," he said.
"There was a lot of stuff coming through at that moment in the glam rock era. And definitely Sebastian [Bach, then-SKID ROW singer], you know, when guys looked like girls. And that worked. And I could never quite figure that out, because of the homophobic stuff that was going on in the '80s. And there's all these guys with makeup on, looking ... I have to watch my words here, but you know what I'm saying? Looking in a specific way, that everybody else is like, 'Yeah, man, they're really hardcore,' and all that kind of stuff. And then me as a closeted gay man, it's like, 'Am I missing something here? How am I not able to come out for fear of losing my career and my band, but these guys are going out there looking like they do, and everybody's falling over them?'
"We always knew Rob was gay," K.K. said. "Because the thing is back in the days — in the '60s and particularly early '70s, when everything was still kind of behind closed doors and stuff like that — people felt a bit more comfortable around us because we would hang around in groups and gangs and we would always know that that guy is different to us and that girl is different."
Rob also wrote about how PRIEST came to adopt its iconic leather look, saying: "The biggest myth about this new stage gear is that I had somehow masterminded the image as a cover and a vent for my homosexuality — that I was getting a thrill from dressing on stage as I'd like to dress in the street, or the bedroom. This is utter bollocks. I had no interest in S&M, domination or the whole queer subcult of leather and chains. It just didn't do it for me. My sexual preference was for men, sure, but I was — and still am — pretty vanilla. I've never used a whip in the boudoir in my life. Or, have I? Hang on, let me think for a minute…"

Birthday party vogue magazine blurb or mini story or something!! Please please please please please please please please I need it ❤️😭
my idea was that british vogue want to do a feature on you, maybe even a cover shoot, on the theme of "the girl behind the covers" (because, you know, you're a writer. book covers). on that same theme, i think the styling and concept is very bedroom-based, not quite boudoir but slightly influenced by that vibe, a lot of you in vintage slip dresses and lingerie under crisp white shirts tangled in bedsheets (another type of covers) in a fancy london hotel suite lmao. you know the concept before you go, but you keep it a secret from matty because you want him to be pleasantly surprised - you do, however, sneak one of his white shirts with you to the shoot to wear in vogue! he's recording while you're shooting, anyway, so it's nice to have him there in some form lol. and the shoot is really fun; the styling is slightly glam but still very you, just a more polished version (the makeup artist (in my head it's dame pat mcgrath) shows you how to achieve the subtle look she's doing and it's so fun), and everyone is wonderful and great at making you feel at ease. when you get home that night, you're on cloud nine, and matty's even more enamoured than usual - his jaw drops when he sees your hair and makeup, and he's like "this is the look they did? i love it. you're just... you. but your eyes look even sparklier! how the fuck did they do that? eyeliner? never mind, just let me look at you. christ, you're gorgeous", and while you're preening he's like "let me take you out, please!! you look far too good to be staying in tonight. come on, let's at least go for a drink, or dinner, darling". so yeah, you go out, and he's just heart eyes the whole time - well, more so than usual lmao. and when the feature actually comes out, the actual profile done by one of your writer friends over the course of a weekend in london? matty LOSES it. he's actually rendered speechless by how incredible you look, for a good few minutes, just flipping through all the pictures with his eyes getting progressively wider and his smile getting bigger; he sighs in quite a lovesick way when he gets to a cute candid of you laughing with the silk bedcovers pulled up to your chin, and he's like "that's the one". you're like "the one what?", and matty kisses your cheek like "the one i want framed. i mean, i want all of them on display, because jesus CHRIST, but that one... that's the girl i'm in love with, that's what you look like in all my daydreams. it's just you, darling", and when you go all "🥺 i love you" matty's like "i love you, so much. a vogue feature! i'm so proud of you. and really glad that this happened after we got together and i get to fully explain how proud and in love i am. and also because there's no way i could have hidden how into you i am after seeing this, not a fucking chance lol". he's so cute. and simpy. and absolutely posting the whole thing to the main insta feed like "the woman of this and every hour. never getting over this nor her, never ever. brb i need to write her another song" lol. dreamy <3

“One guest turned heads at the coronation, Eva Omaghomi, Director of Community Engagement to King Charles III and Queen Camilla. She wowed in a textured coral triangular pleated skirt and jacket from Duaba Serwa, paired perfectly with Gbenga Artsmith’s coral beads and matching gele masterminded by Imelda of Beauty-Boudoir who was also in charge of Eva’s subtle glam featuring a glittery pink smokey eye look. She has had such an impressive career, being invested as a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order by Queen Elizabeth and received the Kindness in Leadership Award. She was also recognized as one of the 15 Ones to Watch by New African Woman magazine. What an Incredible Lady!” - Submitted by Anonymous

When I was a tween I went to this spice-girls themed birthday party where there was all this dress up stuff and they also had a makeup artist. I requested to be “zombie spice” and she said “sorry sweetie idk how to do animals” and then we just looked at each other like 😐 until I was like ok I’ll be baby spice
Anyway have you ever had to turn down/redirect a client lol
I thought this story was going in a different direction 😂 I had a Spice Girl party with four of my friends when I was younger. I was Baby Spice.
So let me clarify that most of my clients want glam makeup; bridal, prom, pageants, boudoir, special events, etc. I have had to redirect brides because the first question I ask them during the “consult” step is how do you wear your makeup? Most is minimal, which is fine. But when they show me inspiration photos and they want to look like an IG baddie, I’m like nope. Not doing that.
On your wedding day do not go completely opposite of how you wear your makeup. Also don’t do IG trends on your wedding day. Ever. It dates your wedding and cheapens it. Your wedding should be timeless.
But my early years, yes, I did do a bride’s makeup exactly how she wanted it, and she then proceeded to tell me it was too much. When I do a wedding a do the wedding party not just the bride. And a lot of time I don’t have the time to completely start from scratch.
So ladies, if you want to go completely opposite on how you wear your makeup, do a trial run!!! Don’t decide the day of your wedding you want red lips, big false lashes, and a sharp winged liner when you have never don’t any of that!
Also please be very clear on what you want to your MUA. And if they are using disposable wands for mascara, lipgloss, etc. or washing/cleansing brushes in between clients RUN!! Makeup should also be sanitized in between!

PHOTOSHOOT: PHOENIX MAGAZINE
Marina graced the cover of Phoenix Magazine’s “Holiday” Summer 2019 issue! The high fashion photoshoot was photographed by Uzo Oleh and shows our girl in front of a simple grey backdrop.
Styling by Natalie Read. Glam by Maria Asadi using M·A·C Cosmetics, and hair by Lewis Pallett.
The cover look displays Marina dressed in a rose-printed silk shirt with oversized cut and short sleeves from UK designer Richard Quinn’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection!
Her textured silver ring with large oval-cut orange stone is signed by Giovanni Raspini.
How epic is this money shot?! Marina is a big fan of designer Malan Breton so his design just had to be part oft his editorial. Here, she wears his multi-colored orchid print ruffle gown with extra(aaaaa) long train from the Spring/Summer 2019 presentation.
The extravagant look was completed with a pair of Charlotte Olympia’s Vreeland black velvet knot sandals with metallic gold platform.
From Malan Breton’s Fall/Winter 2019 collection, hails this metallic floral jacquard cape coat with self-tie neck. Above, you can see a similar design with the same print.
Underneath, she wore the CAMILLA Friend in Flora long-sleeved paddlesuit, inspired by the lush Turkish boudoirs and women’s quarters throughout Versailles.
She completed the look with these Sophia Webster Spring/Summer 2019 Frida knee-high sandals featuring a stunning flower motif in suede.
Next, the Welsh singer poses for the camera in a Richard Quinn purple & blue cloud-printed plush velvet turtleneck top with built-in gloves which she combined with silver & black metallic jacquard wide-leg pants with self-tie waist from Malan Breton’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection.
The black wool blouson jacket with slit sleeves and leg-o’-mutton sleeves, and pleated white poplin blouse with elongated cuffs and organza train both belong to 2011 Fashion Fringe finalists Syria-born, Sheffield-raised Nabil Nayal‘s Spring/Summer 2018 collection titled “Elizabethan Sportswear Part V”.
Nabil studied at the Manchester School of Art, where he gained a First Class Honours degree in Fashion.
After graduating in 2008, he went on to win many prestigious fashion awards including the Royal Society of Arts Award, the GFW Best Womenswear Award and the BFC MA Scholarship Award, enabling him to study at the Royal College of Art.
