First dates usually fall under three categories: perfect, horrible, or confusing. My first date last Friday is debatable.
When I explained how the date went with my brunch friends, they said, “oh it was perfect! Congrats! That’s promising!” “I guess you’ll be out of the market soon!” But there are these little things that have me doubting. Now let me explain and maybe you’ll get onboard why I’m rather… unsure.
The guy in question is Marcus.
We actually met last August at a party where we made out and followed each other on Instagram. None of these events we actually remembered because we were blacked out drunk. Fast forward to the first day of June, he messaged me out of the blue and invited me to his garden party. I told him that I couldn’t make it because I was going to march at the Pride parade that day. So we decided to meet at Akbar in Silverlake. The spot is an amazing hipster gay bar that occasionally plays La Vie en Rose by Edith Piaf or The Middle by Jimmy Eat World, none which are your typical gay tunes. Sometimes we need to take a break from Born This Way, Padam Padam and Anti-Hero remixes. When we finally met up (which he was late by 30 minutes which was forgivably okay to me), we smiled and hugged. He gave me a pat in the back, which is giving “I see you more as a friend” vibe. Red flag! Red flag! We talked and I felt as though I was leading the conversations. Don’t get me wrong. We had good conversations, but I felt as though I was making more of an effort. We learned we both liked Wong Kar Wai, Elif Batuman, and Soccer Mommy. He went to Stanford and I went to Cal (rivals). He talked about growing up in Portland OR, and we both agreed that Voodoo Donuts is overrated. Yes, we had a lot to talk about and they were great moments in our date. But there were also these awkward silent moments where we run out of things to talk about. During these silent moments, I wondered if maybe I’m not interesting enough. Maybe I’m boring him? Maybe he’s not invested in this date and wanted this to end already. After we finished our drinks, I was convinced he didn’t want to stay longer. But he asked if I wanted to grab dinner. Feeling as though maybe there is some mileage in this date, I said sure!
Marcus suggested this place called Junkyard Dogs. Upon arriving, we discovered it was closed for good. Bummer! We looked at each other and I suggested, “There’s Indian food around the corner if you’re down? He nodded, “Sure.” When we arrived, the guy seated us near these old straight couples, which Marcus pointed out. I didn’t really care. It’s not like we’re going to Catch or TomTom. But it was a vibe for sure. (Footnote: my friends laughed at the fact that I took him to Indian food. Apparently, Indian is a bad first date but I beg to differ.) Marcus ordered some lamb green stew and I ordered Paneer Tikka Masala. I learned that he’s dairy intolerant, doesn’t eat beef, and is allergic to cats. Noted! Noted! Noted! I brought up that I have two cats which my sister is taking care temporarily. I thought that was a dealbreaker, but he said he’s been meaning to get inoculated and usually they help. I guess he’s referring to shots that will help mitigate his allergies? I forgot because I was starting to notice how pretty his blue eyes were. We had a lot of leftover food and I suggested he bring them home. He did say that the amount of food can last him a few days. However, he said he would have had to carry them and he wanted to go out a little more. So we left them and went back to Akbar.
I ordered him a Shirley temple and I got a margarita. He wanted to dance later, and so off to the dance floor. No one was dancing when we arrived. I tried to dance and sway, but I felt awkward. We weren’t familiar with each other. I wasn’t drunk enough yet too. However, I thought to myself, “Good things happen when you try to be brave and follow your heart.” I placed my hand on his cheek, pulled him closer, and then kissed him. And everything fell into the place. We danced in rhythm. Our lips locked. My hands guided his hips and his hands gripped my shoulder. My lips then explored his neck. I would find him smiling at me, as we danced further into the night.
Midnight struck and we had to go. We noticed that the dance floor was finally popping. He whispered, “We’re such a trendsetter.” He held my hand and guided me through the crowd.
Outside, we waited for my Lyft. And then kissed a bit more. He commented, “I might not remember too much that night we met, but the body remembers.”
We talked about when we can meet again, but it would have to be after my upcoming Mexico trip, so… in 2 weeks. I got in my Lyft and we parted.
The day after, I messaged him around 1 pm. I could have messaged him at 1 am or 9 am, but I didn’t want to come off too eager. “ Last night was fun! Hope you got home fine. Let’s meet again after I come back from Mexico City.”
His response: “Sounds good!!”
I overanalyzed that response down to a tee. Why didn’t he acknowledged in writing that it was fun for him too? Did he actually have a good time? Maybe he did because he used 2 exclamation marks? Maybe he’s trying to keep it cool or maybe he liked the date but not a lot?
Usually, when I have one inkling of doubt in a guy, I just cut him off immediately. I’m not going to chase after a guy, if I know he’s not into me. Why go down a path when it’ll just result in a heartbreak?
Noah told me to cut it out. “It’s just the first date. Just see where it goes.”
I think Noah is right. I just need to cut it out. Almost all my life, I prided myself to being a free-spirited vagabond who won’t let a guy dictate how I should feel. I’ve even called myself the gay Samantha Jones of Los Angeles (but with less sex.)
However, maybe these are all defense mechanism to avoid being hurt. Maybe I need to put in an effort and stop worrying about being rejected. And if I am rejected, I’ll just worry about that once I cross that bridge.
For now, let me just revel in the fact that I had a pleasant first date and just have some faith in the LA dating scene. After all, maybe he does like me a lot. 💕

Hello, we’re the Shameless writers & we’re tone deaf as fuck. Nice to meet you.
Poor Debbie, you have a kid & responsibilities. Oh no, you poor thing. 😩 fuck off.
Ding ding ding. Ian wins the pot.
LA is a poor substitute for Louisville.
All these racist jokes just don’t hit the way they think they will.
Lip’s sell the house idea reeks of Fiona’s run her own club night idea circa season three.
Ian, stop giving me hipster vibes.
Good racism??? 😒
I’ve got $10 on them not selling the house.
Shut up, Frank.
She ain’t wrong.
Is that the same Fred? I can’t tell. All babies looks alike.
Hipsters = Kudzu
There goes that opportunity.
Is it a home or a safe house? A good home is both.
Oh good god. 🙄
Pretty sure Mickey doesn’t like Kermit.
And just like that all of Tommy’s dreams have come true.
But what if they stole it?
Frank’s storyline just isn’t hitting the way it should.
Can’t help but wonder if there’s fear behind that anger? Like maybe he’s afraid if they stray too far from where they come from the same could happen to them?
You gotta love that a store in East LA is standing in for a store on the Westside of Chicago. They should have gone to Silverlake.
They do hate you, Frank.
Without your husband??? Can we say plot hole?
But rich people don’t have to, is that it?
If I don’t see a dozen fics centered around making dinner together I will be sorely disappointed.
Lip that was a no no. Mickey, you shouldn’t have taken your anger out on Lip. Now kiss & makeup.
Called it. Totally called it.
Look at Ian being a supportive little brother & a great husband all in one moment. 😍
As weird as this may seem, I don’t want Liam to lose another parent. Even if that parent is Frank.

"The sign?? Like the Hollywood sign? Why the fuck would I show her that, dude? YOu can see it from every corner of the city," Zack replied, and Tyson realized he had given a stupid, filler answer. Not his fault, his mind was entirely elsewhere. He started talking about date spots next, but didn't get very far because someone tapped him on the shoulder and that someone was the someone he had been waiting for. "Heeeey," he said with a grin, his hands finding her sides, giving her a very PG-13 squeeze. They had already been told off for all kinds of things since starting work here at this NoHo branch, a very different vibe to the place than in Silverlake. He missed it sometimes, just like Sasha said she missed Gus. "Finally. You good?" He had a tendency to shut everything else out when Sasha was there, and he did that, at least for a few seconds, scanning her face, taking her in. He'd missed her, even though he'd seen her in the morning. But an entire day had gone by, and what a day too.
The day had been slow, until the last half hour that is, when the whole neighborhood seemed to line up in front of her and Phoebe. So busy with the task at hand, even when she sensed him coming in and heard his voice it was a minute before she could look up. She smiled right back, a smile so big it felt almost unprofessional. If a smile could be that. If Allen was around he'd be "disappointed" again. There was no more focus after that, only her eyes darting from the pulled pork and egg salad to Tyson's direction and back again. "I'll do it", mumbled Phoebe, the only girl in LA who wore glasses instead of contacts. "You sure?" "Yeah, just go." Well, Allen was out and it was only seven minutes to six anyway. Sasha thanked Phoebe and stepped back and then away, walking quickly to her man.

His dad went MIA when he was around 6, and his mom worked weekdays & weekends
He and his sister were latchkey kids who practically raised themselves, but their mom instilled a hard studying ethic despite whatever was going on in their lives, and both excelled in school.
Has a younger sister, Bianca, 26. She got a full ride to UCLA and is now a cellist of some renown, also lives in Los Angeles.
He got into several colleges on partial scholarships, but decided to pursue music full-time instead.

an aries (taurus cusp) - but thinks horoscopes are big bs.
big into reading, bukowski, burroughs, kerouac, the lot.
a hip hop purist who does not care for the new trap-rap etc tendencies. talk to him about lil pump and watch him get riled up quickly.
guilty pleasure genres: female fronted pop and eastern european folk-pop
hooked up with charli xcx once, but doesn’t brag about it.
films: big fan of scorsese, tarantino, jordan peele. not a fan of wes anderson, aronofsky, or christopher nolan.
cereal connoisseur. shelled out big bucks for a 1982 vintage box of Count Chocula.
keeps his circle small, loyal to them.
an irreparable night own who goes on maybe 3-4 hrs of sleep? what is even sleep

If ur bros with Tyson u can assume bros with Marlon too!
He’s lived in Los Angeles all his life and has been all around, so a past connection w/anyone who wants it is def possible too.
Has been hanging around Silverlake for the past 5/6 months (since last September) — maybe your chara has run into him somewhere! Feel free to assume that, etc.
Work
He’s a professional drummer, but plays other instruments as well.
Not currently affiliated with any one band or artist, but has stepped into the recording studio when anyone requires a drummer, gone on tour with bands, etc.
Currently helping Dom with his debut record and laying tracks with him.
Skilled in Logic, Ableton, etc. so dabbles with mixing and mastering/producing when he wants.

Heart Attack 2020
Hey friend!
Looks like you and I both like to write like the wind and suffer in the process, so without further ado, let’s go :D
Also, oops, my habit of procrastination has caught up with me… sorry about that!  Here’s a letter now at least…
   General DNW
non-con/dub-con;
explicit sexual content;
incest (incl. adoptive/chosen family);
a/b/o;
mpreg;
non-canonical permanent major character death;
complete downer endings;
hurt no comfort;
heavy angst;
on-page deliberate self-harm*;
on-page suicide;
gore;
graphic physical trauma;
character bashing;
cringe comedy;
fic-as-writer-soapbox;
fic that’s all about real-world bigotries or real-world politics;
canon-typical 2020;
unrequested full-setting AUs;
unrequested identity headcanons;
unrequested romance as the main plot.
*I don’t include things like, say, punching a wall in a fit of emotion under this. However, something like cutting would not be appreciated.
 *****
General Likes
– I really like plotty fics
– Secret identity and disguise shenanigans, the more layers to them and more absurdity the better.
– Crossdressing for whatever reason and gender disguises, also for whatever reason, though not as a fetish thing—that I enjoy less.
– Time travel and time loops are always fun, especially as a fix-it.  I have a general preference for Peggy Sue style (aka, an older character getting put back in their younger body at an earlier point in the timeline) over the character’s physical body stepping back in time, but either one is good.
– A focus on family and/or friendship, especially characters realizing they’re not nearly as alone as they think they are, and just generally characters who like each other and enjoy spending time together
– Found family; families of choice
– Character studies
– Worldbuilding
– Canon-divergence AUs and missing scenes; things set pre- or post-canon; wriggling into canon and poking at it to see what it spits back at you, if that description makes any sense at all.

Mother of Learning - nobody103
·        Alanic Zosk & Silverlake (Mother of Learning)
·        Zach Noveda & None (Mother of Learning)
·        Kirielle Kazinski & Zorian Kazinski (Mother of Learning)
·        Kirielle Kazinski & None (Mother of Learning)
·        Raynie & Kiana (Mother of Learning)
·        Neoluma-Manu Iljatir & Zach Noveda (Mother of Learning)
·        Alanic Zosk & Xvim Chao (Mother of Learning)
fandom-specific dnw: romantic and/or sexual Zach/Zorian; physical parental abuse within the Kazinski family; significant exaggeration of canonical emotional neglect/abuse/general family dysfunction
 Prompts:
If you want to write an AU, you can consider any AU requested for AUEx for Mother of Learning, as listed here, to be requested in this exchange as well, even if the requested characters aren’t requested there, as long as it isn’t written as purely mundane.
I’ve written a fair few Mother of Learning prompts already; if you want to see me going off more about things, especially for Kirielle, please see the Mother of Learning section of my Gen Freeform Ex letter here.  If you don’t want to click through, though, here’s a bit of things.
 Kirielle, Kirielle & Zorian:
If you want to focus on Kirielle’s relationship with someone who isn’t Zorian, for Kirielle and Nochka, they’re adorable and I’d love a further development of their friendship, especially getting to see it grow and develop over the months and years after the invasion.  If you want to write about Kiri and Zach, these two seem to have a lot of fun teaming up against Zorian lol, I really enjoy their dynamic and how they play off each other.  For Kirielle and Zorian, I love their dynamic!  And again here I’d really enjoy seeing their relationship developing in real time, rather than a constantly looping world.  I think it would be great to see either of them defending the other to their parents—and maybe Zorian ends up with custody of Kiri, there’s definitely things to explore there.
For Kirielle by herself, I’d love some sort of character study—what does she do now that the time loop is over?  She’s growing up into a war; will she be a mage?  An artist?  Something else?  Alternatively—what if she got pulled into the loop; what would it be like to grow older while still looking nine?
 Zach, Zach & Neolu:
Assuming you don’t go for a setting AU, I’d generally prefer something set at least in part after the time loop begins, but beyond that I don’t have a strong preference for where in the timeline this might be set.  Maybe something from before Zorian got looped in—maybe one of the iterations where Zach and Neolu just went off across the country having fun the whole month? Zach doing whatever, possibly very early on, or maybe him freaking out a little because what the hell, time travel is supposed to be impossible, and yet—what did he do in the start?
Or for post-canon, I’d really like an exploration of Zach, who’s got the lived-time of a middle-aged man and the body of a teenager—how does he relate to his classmates/other people in the real world, where everyone’s growing again?  Maybe something about his lawsuit against his caretaker, or just a little thing with him, Zorian, and How Do You Live Normally, Again?  This Is Hard, or some such thing.
 Raynie & Kiana:
Me? Latching onto a minor character in a big sprawling canon? It’s more likely than you think!
Anyway I like Raynie a lot; we don’t get a whole lot on her, but what we do get paints her as someone who’s having a very interesting life of her own, utterly divorced from the timeloop shenanigans (except re: the shifter children thing).
I like her and Kiana’s friendship, too; I like how when we finally see more of them both we learn more about how they’re similar and different.
For specific prompts, if you want to go pre-canon I’d really love something with her initial going to Cyoria and how she befriended Kiana in the first place (or, perhaps more likely, how Kiana befriended her; I somehow doubt that Raynie age 13, recently semi-exiled from her tribe, was particularly in search of outsider friends).
For post-canon, really, anything dealing with the fallout of all the things that go down in the real world would be fantastic too.
 Alanic & Silverlake, Alanic & Xvim:
I’ve grouped these because they both have to do with Alanic, but really they’re not very similar prompts.
For Alanic and Silverlake I’d be very interested in something to do with Alanic’s backstory; Silverlake knew him as a young necromancer, so… what happened there?  How did they know each other?  Why was Alanic set on becoming a necromancer; clearly he got far enough to have soul sight himself—how’d he get that?  Why did he leave the necromancer’s path to become a priest?
For Alanic and Xvim, I dunno, this seemed fun?  They’re both part of the “annoying but ultimately helpful teacher” club to Zorian, and they get along well with each other—gonna admit I don’t fully remember what goes down for them in the final, real-world iteration, but.  They’re both a lot of fun and they play off each other well; just go wild here.  I’m down for it if you are.

·        Cassandra & Eugene Fitzherbert | Flynn Rider (Disney: Tangled)
·        Angry | Keira & Red | Catalina & Lance Strongbow (Disney: Tangled)
·        Angry | Keira & Red | Catalina (Disney: Tangled)
fandom-specific notes: Cass's canonical injured hand/arm that canon just kind of... forgets about and doesn't ever address after it's introduced is totally fair game; I'd love something that addressed that, just nothing too graphic about the original injury please.  Dnw fic which explicitly breaks up Rapunzel/Eugene.
 Prompts:
So, overall, I just love this show a lot?  It’s just so wholesome and heartfelt and hopeful?  Anything you write which can grab that vibe I’ll probably enjoy tbh.
But! Onwards to specifics!
 Cass & Varian, Cass & Catalina, Cass & Eugene:
This is my “team betrayed Rapunzel and/or ill-advisedly trusted a blue spirit in the woods and/or died for her before being resurrected” group lol, and I’d love something that explores one of those things; canon gives us a little bit of that between Cass and Varian in the form of “Nothing Left to Lose,” but it doesn’t really address it after they’ve both found their way back; I’d love something post-canon for any of these pairs, after Cass has finally got her act together and they can start learning to deal with all of it.  Sharing their experiences!  Figuring out how to emotionally process the bad (or good-but-with-unfortunate-consequences-even-if-only-temporary) decisions you made!  I’m here for it.
 Eugene & Angry, Eugene & Catalina, Angry & Catalina, Angry & Catalina & Lance:
All the found family! If you’re just dealing with Angry and Catalina, I’d take anything at any point in the timeline tbh—how did they meet? When and how did they start thieving together?  What did they do between their major appearances in the show?  If you go post-canon—how do they work out their new lives with Lance?  They’ve been living on their own for at least two years, probably longer; how do they learn to let go and let someone else take care of them?  And for either (or both tbh) of them with Eugene—former child-thieves, reformed because of Rapunzel!  He doesn’t have any parental-style authority over them; how do they relate to him as opposed to Lance, in a post-canon world?

Secret Society of Second-Born Royals (2020) [SAFETY]
·        Matteo & Roxana & Sam & Tuma (Secret Society of Second-Born Royals)
·        January & Matteo & Roxana & Tuma & Sam (Secret Society of Second-Born Royals)
·        Mike Kleinberg & Sam (Secret Society of Second-Born Royals)

·        Catherine & Eleanor & Sam (Secret Society of Second-Born Royals)
·        January & Sam (Secret Society of Second-Born Royals)
·        Eleanor & Sam (Secret Society of Second-Born Royals)
·        Worldbuilding & None (Secret Society of Second-Born Royals)
Fandom-specific dnw: January as purely, irredeemably evil; absolute monarchy as unambiguously purely good.
Fandom-specific note: since I’m directly asking for politics in the worldbuilding option, it would be a bit silly to fully dnw real-world politics in this real-world-adjacent setting. Don’t worry about referencing real politics if that’s where you go with your fic; however, I would rather any focused-on politics be filtered through the context of the fictional countries the film uses, and please don’t reference real-world American politics post-2015.  “unrequested full setting aus” dnw has been modified to “unrequested mundane aus” so if you want to, idk, put them in a fairytale au or a sports-but-still-have-powers au or something—go right ahead.
 Prompts:
So, I enjoyed this silly little movie quite a lot—the characters were a lot of fun!  I love them all!  I really mostly just want more of them tbh.  If you want an overarching theme—I would adore time travel here, even more than I normally do. Time loops especially are just… perfection.
 Matteo & Roxana & Sam & Tuma, January & Matteo & Roxana & Tuma & Sam:
Team fic! Team fic! Team fic!  For these two sets, I’d love something about the whole team—of course—doing team-y things. You could set it in the summer, before shit goes down in the climax; or you could set it after—they’re going after January, of course.  What happens when they finally catch up to her?  What do they do?  How do they all process the relevant emotions of having been betrayed?  Do we catch a redemption arc?
 Mike & Sam:
These two are such good friends!  I like their friendship a lot, and I’d love to see more of it.  Something fun would be pre-canon—how did they meet?  What led them to start their band?  How much traction does their band have, really? Or post-canon—even having forgiven her, it’s got to be a lot to deal with, your best friend turning out to not just be a princess, but a superhero princess, while you’re just… a groundskeeper’s son(?).
 Eleanor, Eleanor & Sam, Catherine & Eleanor & Sam:
Family times!  There’s a lot of tension and secrets here, have been for a long time; tell me how they come to deal with it all and learn to live with each other better than they have been before the film—or give me backstory! How did things end up spiraling this far down?
 January & Sam:
I’d love to have something dealing with January’s PoV on the events of the film, or Sam’s PoV on January; more fun with secrets and betrayals!  (Fun for the audience at least; maybe less fun for these two though.) They got pretty close, after all—how did that have January feeling?  Did she second-guess herself over that?  How about Sam—she was the one betrayed by her new friend, after all.  If you want to see me talking more about just January, check out my Yuletide letter here.
 Worldbuilding:
Okay, so, I really did like this movie, so I say this affectionately, but… to call the worldbuilding here flimsy would be to, well, imply that it had bothered doing any worldbuilding whatsoever, and that’s not quite accurate, now is it?  To be clear, I do think this was probably a good decision, given that the movie is dedicated to superhero funtimes, not How The Hell Is This Happening, but it does leave me with so very many questions. For being a movie all about royalty, this movie is almost allergic to actually engaging any of the politics it hints at, what with the presented sides being “monarchy good” and “terrorism is fine actually”; if you want to write about the politics of the world these characters live in, by all means go ahead! For example, how did they manage to be a Western European absolute monarchy all the way to the present day?  I’d love to see that, or anything like it really, explored.  Other worldbuilding I’d be interested in includes an exploration of the “gene” which… somehow… manifests exclusively in second-born children of royal bloodlines—does this include bastard children?  What counts as a royal bloodline?  What happens when one of the superhero royal children has to ascend the throne?  Why only the second-born?  Is it really genetic at all, or is it some sort of magic?  If not magic, then wtaf is going on in the genetics of this world, I have to know more.

fandom-specific dnw: age gaps in ships of more than 3 or so years when one character is underage; predatory manipulation between characters in the relationship in service of the relationship–if characters are manipulating each other for non-relationship things and such that’s okay, but i’d rather both parties in any of the ships be interested in the romance of their own accord. Additionally, please don’t have characters react to any gender-disguised characters (or characters in general, but it’s most relevant to them) in transphobic or transphobic-adjacent ways (i.e. none of the characters are requested as trans, but I still wouldn’t want to see the kinds of comments people make about trans people aimed at them). I’d also rather not see any kind of serious relationship with at least one character disguising their gender pre-reveal of that disguise–flirting, starting to date a little is okay but if it’s going further please have them reveal it. Please don’t play into the idea of gender-disguised character as “trap”.
also dnw characters requested as gender-disguised to be written as trans or to be written as absolutely loathing their disguise. other characters are fair game. if writing trans characters, dnw them to be explicitly nondysphoric (but not addressing it is fine).
fandom-specific note: the “setting au” dnw obviously does not apply here; my typical “identity headcanon” au dnw has been replaced by a dnw for “marginalized identities as the main focus of a fic” since there isn’t exactly a canon here lol.
If you’re a lovely friend who wants to do treats, I’d be totally on board for art treats for this section; however, I haven’t requested them as actual fills.
 Prompts:
All of these are fun groupings that, I think, imply both setting and some amount of plot; but I’ll have some more specific prompts anyway.  Overall I like all sorts of settings; all of my requested pairs imply some amount of speculative elements in the setting, but beyond that it’s all up to you.  Just-left-of-modern?  Ancient China but with magic?  IN SPACE? Whatever you want to do, go for it.
 Male Student Mage Disguised as a Girl &/Whoever:
Look, I’m a sucker for identity/disguise shenanigans, and I love gender disguises, and for all the books I read as a kid featuring girls disguising themselves as boys to do [insert restricted activity here], I never saw its natural inverse; this is a travesty and must be corrected for.  Anything playing into this whole trope/idea is just chef’s kiss, I promise you I’ll love it.
 Child Superhero & Their Concerned Supervillain Nemesis:
Another favorite dynamic of mine!  I love supervillains getting tricked into that semi-parental role where they’re like “hang on I may be a supervillain and a criminal but you’re a child where are your parents what are you doing here,” it’s quite possibly the Best dynamic I have yet encountered in superhero fiction… even if I haven’t actually encountered it all that much.
 Spellsword Mercenary & Mathemagician:
Okay, I’ll admit that I mostly nominated and requested this for the pun potential.  But I think there’s also quite a lot of implicit lore you could really dig into; what kind of world is this, where magic can be imbued in or used through swords, but can also be related to mathematics?  Tell me more about it!  How do these two know each other?  Are they both shamelessly, pundamentally invested in wordplay as well as their actual jobs?  If you’re looking for more plot-implying ideas, I would be super down if you wanted to map this onto one of my other origfic requests (but no pressure lol).

Hollywood 2018
   Or East Hollywood 2018 actually. The Vermont station on the red line near LACC, a community college. It was a block away from Silver Lake which was considered the Brooklyn of LA.
   Before we moved out of Hollywood, I made a movie in my apartment. A short film called “Alto Nido” that was half black and white 1950s, and half present day. It was a free location and I didn’t wana lose the opportunity. The production went seamless and we finished shooting in two 14 hour days. A year later myself and coproducer got the film into Studio City Film Festival and LA Film festival.
    We had a all girl cast and crew, me and my friend Joanna wrote, directed, produced, and acted in this film. We found an amazing cinematographer who knew what we were going for. A professional editor, amazing sound and score. We even registered this movie with the Writers Guild. I had my first Q&A as a director during the festival. It felt so legit.
    Myself and roommate decided it was now time to get a bigger space and I wanted to live in Silverlake. The problem was getting an apartment in LA is such a hard endeavor. We found a place by a friend telling me there was a available apartment with a for rent sign and phone number. It was a block away from Silver Lake which was East Hollywood. Around my area was a McDonald’s, a Filipino grocery store, a diner , and a dispensary. I was close to downtown LA and Koreatown. We had to put more money down to get the apartment but we got it.
   Soon after my roommate had a calling to leave La and travel. Before she left I really wanted her to see the first film I made in New York that was finally completed. Her leaving was my first deadline. I didn’t know how I was going to do it, but I had to have my first screening of “How to Love A Drug Addict”. I’m thankful for that motivation and the need to show the film. Finishing a movie to me is screening it, it’s the only way I can let it go.
   Even though I didn’t have money to show it properly. I borrowed a projector, used my white wall, invited a bunch of people, and didn’t have proper sound so used a emoji speaker to show it, and made the audience pop corn. That was my first taste of the event I have now called “Brooklyn Summer”. A creative experience to show indie artists’ work.
    We just signed a lease, I had two jobs. One for good benefits and one for actual money. The one with benefits gave me amazing health, eye, dental, $50 rooms, and a consistent paycheck even though it wasn’t much.
    I wasn’t done with LA, and I tried my best to find a subleaser for my roommates room. My candidates were a friend from home, a skater/actor I met in the filmmaker community, someone she found from the east coast with a good job. I tried living with all of them at separate times and none of them stuck. They were looking for something different. However the one that really stuck was a couple I met on gypsy housing.
     If I met a potential house mate online I would meet at the nearby diner and if we vibed I showed them the apartment. The couple I met; I remember thinking that they were married and my shenanigans needed to stop. No more doing whatever I wanted. I needed to be respectful of the married couple. It took me a month but they weren’t married, just living together.
    The girl is from Europe and an amazing artist in the sound world of film. The guy A musician and chef; they were both nice people. I needed to live with them from April- Jan. I gave them a contract to make things clear. Clean common areas, pay rent on time, give me a heads up if someone sleeps over. I had a lot to complete in that time.
    That year while working two jobs I made my short film Layla, in that East Hollywood apartment before we moved out. It was a trend of mine as every apartment I lived in ended up being my film set. I also flew out to Mexico City for my birthday to film all the B-Roll for my short film.
    That year I traveled to Peru and saw Machu Pichu. I went to the Grand Canyon, Colorado, Oregon, Seattle, Laguna beach, Malibu, San Diego and saw all that I wanted before moving back to the East Coast.
   I did a commercial for the hotel I worked for in Hollywood. I never moved up from being a barback. Made a ton of friends. Spent time in Joshua Tree and the desert. The desert made me feel creative with all the empty space. Hiking  is one of my favorite things to do.
    It was nice to experience LA as an actor and filmmaker but also as someone who likes to travel and go on adventures. Just a normal person who wants to have fun.
   I went home that summer during my birthday. I got everyone together to meet me. I told them all I was coming home. That I was finishing what I had to do and was coming home to be with the people I loved. That was my plan and I was sticking to it. I organized to stay at my best friend’s place when my lease was up for a few months and thankfully she let me.
    On my way to moving back I wanted to backpack the Philippines with my friends. When you quit your jobs and have some free time it’s good to take that time and go somewhere you really wana go for an extended time. The Philippines seemed smart because the last time I was there I was 22. My backpacking route was Singapore, Manila, Coron Palawan, Olso Cebu, Bohol, and back to Manila to see family. All before my move home to New York.
   I was so lucky that my one friend from LA wanted to go and my other friend from New York, so that was motivating. I had a deadline and paid for my trips with each paycheck I received.
    After filming, traveling, and living with my new roommates I gave away majority of all the things I collected in the short 2 years. 2 futons, a bed, shelves, all my clothes to friends and the homeless people of LA. I moved into Studio City with my best friend for 4 months and to end my journey I turned 27 that summer and I’ll never forget it because I have it tattooed on my wrist. My Saturn return and Golden year.
   To end East Hollywood I had an amicable breakup with my roommates, a small film screening, a short film shoot, and fun sleepovers with my friend who lived in Santa Monica who partied with me. I’ll always remember those times and by doing everything that year in that lease I know I could do anything. All the uncertainty fell into place.

WEEKEND GETAWAY GUIDE: TORONTO
Tumblr media
I know what you're assuming. And the answer is YES Toronto can be a weekend break escape for Angelenos. If I can do it, you can do it, and thus you definitely should. I just spent 3 lovely days in "The Six" (which ends up only 7% of people that live there really refer to it as), and also divine maple fallen leave was there so much to check out, experience, as well as most notably-- consume.
Thanks to the magnificent Fairmont Royal York hotel, a 90-year-old Toronto prize, this was not only my very first browse through to Canada's biggest city, yet it was likewise my first real browse through to Canada! (I don't truly count docking in Vancouver from a cruise ship and also taking a bus to the flight terminal "seeing" Canada.) I thought of Toronto as a huge city, yet not nearly as big as it really was. It was quickly on the same level with the similarity New York City or perhaps Mexico City. However besides it's stretching "large city" landscape, what truly attracts attention about Toronto is its extraordinary modern diversity. This is one city you will never ever be tired in, and also if you, like me, are game for that "large city" life, Toronto will undoubtedly amaze and also thrill you. So, with every one of that said, below are a few of my personal ideas for your next trip:
REALITIES.
First things initially: fun and also fascinating information. Why? Due to the fact that I feel like to the majority of us, maybe Toronto is just one more huge city, yet factually it's a great deal a lot more unique than you could give it credit scores for! Let's discover some points:
Toronto is home to over 8,000 dining establishments and also bars, making up for 6.5% of the city's services
Toronto invites over 40 million visitors yearly
There are 301 quantifiable days of sunshine (yet the record low temp is -24 levels F).
Toronto is residence to 7 major league sporting activities (one of the most in the nation).
Yonge St (you'll understand it) is the longest road worldwide.
Around 25% of Hollywood motion pictures are shot in Toronto.
There are around 160 completed high-rise buildings in Toronto, with 112 under construction.
STAY.
As soon as you've been totally sold on those fun realities as well as you've gone ahead as well as scheduled your flights, the following obvious action is lodgings. And the only location I am going to advise you stay at, for lots of reasons, is the Fairmont Royal York. Below's why:.
I am constantly trying to find resorts that are special and really seem to embody the city's "significance" (I sort of hate that I just utilized that word however it's so exact wherefore I mean) and also the Fairmont Royal York is exceptionally unique and essential to the city's background, as well as believe me you feel it the minute you pull up and also stroll inside.
She may have simply turned 90, yet she's a classic dame. The resort has been undergoing significant (and also majorly costly) improvements yet the outcome seems to have made it all well worth the while. The brand as well as developers genuinely paid regard to the hotel's history but made the essential updates to maintain guests comfy. It has actually been an attractive change.
The resort's front runner dining establishment REGIME-- a contemporary Canadain brassiere with a conventional French touch-- is definitely superb. The room is lovely, moody, and the food is beyond. So beyond, actually, we consumed there 3 times in 3 days.
The cocktails at Clockwork (the major entrance hall bar) are hands down, no joke, a few of the most effective cocktails I've ever had. When you visit ensure you get a "Meet Me At the Clock" (Hendrick's Gin, Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Lemon, Absinthe, Bitters, Frosé Ice) or a "Clearheaded Harvey" (Absolut Elyx Vodka, Galliano, Clarified Orange Juice, Citric Acid) and also thank me later. And in addition to that bar is just one of the most effective hotel bars I can state I've ever been to. (Ok moving on, prior to I apparently attempt to move in.).
It is centrally located and also within strolling distance of so much, like the CN Tower, Rogers Centre (where the Toronto Blue Jays play), Scotiabank Sector (where the Raptors play), or enjoyable parts of community like Queen St.
While Fairmont resorts are already the embodiment of deluxe to me, the Fairmont Royal York takes it to the next level with their lately redesigned Fairmont Gold offerings which include gorgeous new suites, a whole separate check-in, and also a stunningly stunning personal lounge where visitors can enjoy dishes, canapes, and also a totally equipped honor bar. The focus to detail in the Gold spaces was merely unforgettable, something you are worthy of to see to think hunny.
The Queen remains right here when she remains in town, require I say more.
DO.
This might come as a shock yet there's a great deal to experience in Toronto. Whether you're the foodie, luxury, artsy, stylish, or daring type, there really is something for everyone here. Here's what to think about:.
NIAGRA-ON-THE-LAKE.
My absolute FAVORITE activity from this past journey was seeing an area nearby called Niagra-on-the-Lake, which is essentially Canadian white wine country. You can get there by tiny plane (which is something the Fairmont Royal York will assist establish if you're remaining in a Fairmont Gold Room) or you can arrive by automobile, regardless, I can not advise this place enough. In between the beautiful wineries, the lovable as well as charming midtown, and all of the tasty red wine your heart can manage, I currently can't wait to find back below.
GO TO QUEEN WEST.
The first thing we did after signing in to our spectacular resort was walk down to the beloved area on Queen St. This location I would certainly refer to as "Silverlake East" due to the fact that it reminded me of the location around Sunset Joint. Lots of younger individuals were walking, there are actually great local restaurants and also bars, and also it's house to perhaps the best shopping around. You could invest an entire afternoon discovering this area and I highly suggest that you do.
CHECK OUT KENSINGTON MARKET.
An additional prominent, eclectic, and beloved part of community is Kensington Market. Known for it's more bohemian as well as vivid ambiance, you'll find plenty of great coffeehouse, classic shops, red wine bars, and a wide variety of dining establishments to appreciate.
CN TOWER.
The CN Tower essentially the crown gem of the city. Up until 2007, it was the tallest tower on the planet! In spite of it being fairly the normal vacationer location, mosting likely to the leading to experience those incredible views is entirely worth it. I really did not recognize how extensive Toronto was till I obtained all the way up there. If you're brave you can also partake in what is called the "Edge Walk", where you basically lean off the side of the top of the tower in a harness. Me? No many thanks. However hey, it's a point and individuals love it!
SPORTS!
As previously stated Toronto is residence to 7 different specialist sporting activities groups, so at any offered point during the year there need to be a video game of some kind taking place. I would suggest going to a Toronto Blue Jays video game, but that's primarily because I enjoy baseball and I've constantly wished to see that retractable roof at the arena IRL.
ST. LAWRENCE MARKET.
Regretfully I didn't reach look into the St. Lawrence Market myself however I am told this location is comparable to our own Grand Central Market here in LA, so assume farmers market vibes with food delays galore and also everything in between. This market was developed in 1803 so it deserves having a look back in time alone!
TRINITY BELLWOODS PARK.
That doesn't like a great park, specifically one in Canada? Trinity Bellwoods Park is centrally located, supplies all the perfect park offerings (views, trees, open spaces to partake in leisure tasks) and also is a tourist and also local favorite alike.
THE DISTILLERY DISTRICT.
Everybody informed me I would enjoy the Distillery Area as well as by the sounds of it, they struck the nail on the head. The Distillery Area was aptly called such because of the truth that the area was as soon as residence to the biggest distillery worldwide, however today is house to several of the city's finest clubs, some wonderful shopping, and also some absolutely lovely as well as special landscapes with its old Victorian aesthetic.
EAT & DRINK.
I'll be truthful, I am planning an entire journey back to Toronto SIMPLY to wine and dine. Due to their insanely varied area, the food scene in Toronto is exceptionally rich (remember there are over 8,000 dining establishments and also bars ?!). I ate quite a bit at the Fairmont Royal York, which I once more VERY recommend, but beyond that I am not mosting likely to make believe like I recognize what I am talking about in terms of the Toronto foodie scene, SO, alas for this part I defer to the experts:.

About a month ago, I took a short trip to LA for some R&R and was able to visit some of my favorite spots (talking about you @urthcaffe (and your unreal bread pudding). This time around I decided to stay on the east side of LA in the slowly gentifrying area of Echo Park/Silver Lake 🙈. I enjoyed the chill hipster vibe and the openness of the people, especially at Kettle Black. This Italian joint is very inviting with its huge doors and quaint, bright decor. The place is spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating and a killer hip hop playlist. I ordered the delicious wood fired Bolognese (Pappardelle) and the Mezcal cocktail, which were more than enough to enjoy. If you’re ever in the east side of LA - definitely stop in and give it a try. * * * * * * * #LA #foodie #foodporn #instagood #instapic #forkfeed #igfood #nomnom #food #dinner #Italian #food #foodblog #foodblogger #eats #cocktails #party #craftcocktails #laeats #eaterla #italianfood #instafood #drinks #echopark #silverlake #dtla #losangeles #poppaeats (at Kettle Black) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwITVBCBiVY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=a39uxjebhuoz

Cemetery was the right vibe for a glamour goth wedding
Grossan, a music aficionado, and the rock musician Ayers, who has jazz in his blood, aren’t the “wedding factory” types. (Elizabeth Lippman/The New York Times)
Molly Creeden
Just months after they started dating more than two years ago, Ally Jane Grossan and Nabil Ayers felt certain they were headed for marriage, and it was with as much surety that they didn’t want their wedding to feel formulaic and familiar.
“We wanted to get married somewhere that’s isn’t a wedding factory,” said Grossan, a founder of Brooklyn FI, a financial planning firm geared to creatives and tech entrepreneurs in New York. “It’s always the same: a beautiful space, flowers and salmon or chicken, and we just wanted to do something that wasn’t that.”
By many markers, the couple’s evening wedding on Thursday, Dec. 20, in the Masonic Lodge at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery could not be typecast. There was DJ Gregg Foreman — lithe former music director for the musician Cat Power with Joan Jett hair — who played songs by the Cure on the piano. There was the bride’s walk down the aisle with her parents, to the cascading drumbeats of the eerie first bars of “Atmosphere” by post-punk band Joy Division. There was the irrevocable fact that several yards away, entertainment industry legacies — from Mickey Rooney to Johnny Ramone — lay deceased.
“I don’t know why, I’ve always loved cemeteries,” said Grossan, 30. “Père Lachaise in Paris is one of my favorite places; Green-Wood in Brooklyn. I don’t think they’re morbid. I think they’re beautiful.” Ayers, 46, agreed: “It’s like a beautiful park.”
It was at another wedding reception in June 2016 at House of Yes, an events space in Bushwick, Brooklyn, where Ayers first spotted Grossan. “I remember thinking, who is that beautiful woman standing there?” he said. The two were in attendance to celebrate the marriage of respective co-workers: Anna Bond, with whom Ayers worked at 4AD, an independent record label where he is the US label manager, and the groom, J Edward Keyes, who was Grossan’s then-boss at Bandcamp, a self-publishing music platform where she was a senior editor.
Ayers waited to make his move until he saw Grossan chatting with Joan LeMay, a friend from Seattle, where from 1997 to 2008, he ran Sonic Boom Records and was a drummer in indie rock bands like the Long Winters. Ayers greeted his friend, who introduced him to Grossan. “My first impression was that he was wearing this fabulous suit with cool glasses,” she said of Ayers’ signature oversize frames.
The pair spoke for a few minutes before rejoining the party, and then found each other again, talking for an hour against the backdrop of karaoke. They spoke about music. At 24, Grossan had been appointed the series editor of the publisher Bloomsbury’s 33-1/3 Series, a collection of biographies about individual music albums and artists. “I, and anyone else who had ever heard about it, was impressed by that,” Ayers said.
Ayers is the son of noted jazz composer and vibraphonist Roy Ayers, with whom he has had a distant relationship. He was given a drum set at age 2 by his uncle, jazz musician Alan Braufman, and has made music his lifeblood since.

“I remember someone telling me that night: ‘Oh that’s Nabil Ayers from 4AD, that guy’s a big shot,’” Grossan said. After the two parted ways, Grossan followed Ayers on Twitter in the Uber ride back to her home in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
The next day, Ayers reached out to LeMay with a request: Could she ask Grossan to pass along her email address? Once in hand, Ayers sent Grossan a casual message mentioning Skee-Ball, which Grossan had revealed was a talent. Two days later, Ayers was surprised he hadn’t heard back. “I thought it was weird. We’d gotten along well, and my friend had asked her if it was OK to get in touch.”
After giving the go-ahead, Grossan thought it was odd that she hadn’t heard from Ayers. “I checked the spam folder and was like, ‘No way, this doesn’t happen.’” There was Ayers’s email from his 4AD address.
Grossan responded immediately and the two made plans to meet the following Sunday for a drink. On the Thursday evening beforehand, however, Grossan was seated at a table in the Hammerstein Ballroom at the Libera Awards — a ceremony honoring the indie music community — and heard Ayers’ name announced. She looked up to see him walking on stage to accept an award on behalf of singer/songwriter Grimes for the video “Kill V. Maim.” Grossan emailed him: “Short and sweet — great speech.”
They found each other after the program and Grossan invited Ayers to join a group heading to a karaoke bar (note: for how much karaoke appears in this story, the groom does not particularly enjoy it). There, jammed into a bench with industry peers, Ayers was enchanted as Grossan sang the grim, rapid fire lyrics to System of a Down’s “Chop Suey” with perfect elocution. “She took her shoes off for the song, and I was like, ‘Whoa, she’s really going to do it,’” Ayers said. “I was really impressed.”
The group dispersed and Grossan and Ayers wound up at New Wonjo in Koreatown, talking over cold noodles late into the night. That night the couple kissed for the first time.
It would be the first of many dates.
“Most of the men in the music journalism space are obnoxious: They’re proud of knowing the names of every single album,” Grossan said. “But Nabil knows more that everyone and is so understated. He never tries to display his knowledge to anyone. He’s just excited to talk about it.”
Like the tongue-twisting lyrics to Chop Suey, the relationship moved at a heady clip. On an early date, Grossan mentioned that her favorite album was Hole’s Celebrity Skin; several weeks later, on her birthday in July, Ayers gave her a copy in vinyl. That month, the pair decided on impulse that Grossan would be Ayers’ date to a September wedding in Paris. And in October, Ayers met Grossan’s father, television producer Mark Grossan, in a hot tub during Orange County’s Beach Goth music festival. By Christmas, they had plans for Ally Jane Grossan to move into Ayers’ Brooklyn Heights apartment when her lease was up in May.
In early 2018, Ayers began looking for rings to propose to Grossan. Once he found one — a vintage emerald-cut diamond with two baguettes that reminded him of the art deco angles of the Chrysler Building — he put his plan in motion. He had arranged to have Julien Baker, Grossan’s favorite musician, perform a private serenade during the Sasquatch Music Festival in George, Washington, on May 25, 2018.
But the couple was running late that day. Grossan got her first speeding ticket while they were en route to the Gorge Ampitheater from Seattle. She was frazzled as Ayers hurried her through security, texting with Baker’s manager about the mere minutes they had before the musician was due on stage. Telling Grossan they were hurrying to meet a friend at a backstage video shoot, Ayers wove them through the 20,000-person crowd, past the tour buses, and around a bend behind the stage. There, they found Baker and her violinist on a cliff overlooking the gorge. She started playing Love Me Tender by Elvis. When the violin solo began, Ayers dropped to one knee and asked Grossan to marry him.
The couple chose to marry in Los Angeles, where Grossan grew up and where her grandparents, Murray and Rosalyn Grossan, 95 and 94, live. (They were unable, however, to attend the wedding). Ayers had recently organised a show at the Hollywood Cemetery and thought it might dually be suitable for matrimony. On the summer day when Grossan and her mother toured the cemetery for a visit, the staff was cleaning up the site of the memorial for Chris Cornell, Soundgarden’s frontman.

On the evening of December 20, however, morbidity was the last thing on the minds of the 125 friends and family who gathered in the temple of Masonic Lodge in festive interpretations of “glamour goth,” the couple’s suggested attire for guests. This meant oversize earrings, peacock feathers, sparkly slides, tattooed fingers, faux fur and evening gowns, with an over-index of black rimmed glasses paired with long rocker hair.
“Each of you are glowing tonight, and the love of life that you are share with each other helps to light this world around us,” said the officiant, Rabbi Michele Ellise Lenke, under a white huppah in the temple room, which was a vision in crimson, from carpet to walls, with a Masonic Eastern Star hanging in the center. “Julien Baker may sing about turning the lights out,” the rabbi said, “but my wish for you is to keep shining bright.”
In his vows, Ayers spoke of his respect for Grossan’s drive and ambition, and called her his motivation in life. “I’ve always been a happy person,” he said. “It’s become clear to me that you’ve always been a happy person. So it’s hard to believe that I would meet someone who has made me infinitely happier, but you’ve done that.”
Grossan, who is taking her husband’s last name, praised his accomplishments and his “infectious warmth.” “Waiters, bartenders, shopkeepers and strangers we meet are immediately drawn to you,” she said. “It’s like the whole world is completely in love with you, but not as much as me. I vow to protect and cherish that feeling.”
In toasts over dinner in the building’s Eastern Star Room, where guests drank sparkling Topo Chico water, natural libations from Silverlake’s Psychic Wines, and ate a Mediterranean buffet feast, Ayers was referred to by a co-worker, Gabe Spierer, as “the nicest guy in rock.”
(“Not only rock, but one of the nicest guys in earth, wind and water,” Matt Berninger, the frontman for the rock band the National amended later in the evening).
Ayers’ mother Louise Vesper, a former ballet dancer, recalled seeing the body language between the couple for the first time, and praised the fact that “in their busy lives, they still make time for their parents.” The party moved back across the hall to the Masonic Temple for dancing, and then onto an after party at Brass Monkey — for karaoke, of course.

June Gloom
Welcome back to the seemingly never ending carnival ride that is Kung Fu Breakfast. It’s June, one of my favorite months of the year for shooting in LA because it’s warm but not too hot, the days are long, and you get a good bit of that June gloom soft even light. Things on my end have been a bit overwhelming with plenty of things going on including my trip to Miami to shoot with Dahliaisdopey and her cam girl crew. Because of all that we have a GRIP of new sets. This might actually be a record of new sets for one post so let’s jump right in.
Easing things in is a new mini set with Ms. Petra Blair. Many of you may recall Petra’s first set in the forests of Switzer Falls from my last post in May. I invited Petra out for a drink at The Offbeat in my neighborhood of Highland Park. We wandered over to a late night laundry mat and shot until some woman working there kicked us out. Mini shoots are always fun in their organic nature and the story of what I do in my off time so hope you like it.
Several months ago Brittny Nicole took me down to San Diego to shoot with the babes of Little Black Diamond. On that trip I got to meet the owner of Little Black Diamond, Adrienne Abelle. Adrienne and I really hit it off and spent the next few months working on getting together for a shoot. We finally made it happen and enlisted the help of The Cosmic Daughter. The three of us explored a bit around San Diego before winding up on a beautiful little set built right in the Little Black Diamond warehouse. It was a really fun multi-muse shoot with vibrant colors everywhere.
I often go back and forth on my favorite types of Muses but rock chicks are always up there, including a new muse for me: BB. BB (of the band The Drained) is a mutual friend of my muse Xtine Reckless and we were able to connect on social media. BB had no real modeling experience, really only shooting some photos with her boyfriend and I thought she was a wonderful Muse. The two of us met up in Victorville to shoot at the abandoned George Air Force Base. It was super windy that day so we spent most of our time inside but you can see in the outside shots her hair just blowing everywhere. Love BB’s look and attitude and you’ll definitely be seeing more of her in the future (probably sooner than you think)
Last month I was very inspired by my solo adventure sets in The Bay so I decided to continue this new feature to the site including this new mini set I shot in the Los Feliz/Silverlake area. I actually wasn’t alone for this as I was with my friend Quinn but it has those solo vibes since I didn’t shoot any models. I did however shoot this beautiful Vhils/Shepard Fairey collab, a cute dog, and a Jurassic Park car amongst other things.
So from keeping it local we travel across the united states for my Miami sets. I’m going to do something a little different here and write about all of these sets together because really it was one main adventure that wielded seven sets. My friend Dahliaisdopey hired me and put me on a plane to shoot with her and her cam girl friends down in Miami. I arrived late on Tuesday night to a cute little Air BnB in North East Miami. I had no idea where Dahlia and the girls were staying until I got in the Uber and headed across town to Southwest Miami. Once I arrived I entered this dope house where I was greeted by Dahlia. Dahlia introduced me to her housemates Chloe Rydr, Daddy Daycare, and Neko. After a little meet and greet I got to work and shot solo sets with Chloe, Daddy, and Dahlia (Neko wasn’t feeling too well and decided to skip out).
I shot mostly around the pool area and a bit in doors with each of them but eventually I suggested we all get out of the house. We headed to Wynwood (Miami’s Arts District) where Dahila and I previously shot at one of my favorite abandoned places: The Old RC Cola Plant. My history with the RC Cola Plant goes far back as my first solo adventures to Wynwood in my street art days. The most time I ever spent there was during 2015 when I documented Angelina Christina and Fanakapan creating a mural inside the plant during Art Basel for The Bushwick Collective. Later I would do the shoots with Dahlia and Angie Mitchell there as well.
Unfortunately when we arrived The RC Cola Plant had crazy new reinforced gates and we were unable to get in. Still we had a fun shoot around Wynwood. After the shoot we headed to dinner at a fancy Mexican place where I met Millie Knoxx and her boyfriend. The five of us got amazing ice cream and then called it a night.
The next day I headed back to the Cam Girl Casa for more shoots. I shot more solo sets with Dahlia, Chloe, and Daddy around the house and eventually even got in the pool for the first shoot I’ve ever done where both the model and I were in the pool. I also burned forgetting how harsh the Florida sun can be. My favorite part of the pool shoots had to be the giant floating duck with sunglasses. I tried to include him in as many shots as possible. After some time Milli Knoxx and her boyfriend joined as at the end house and I shot a group set with Dahlia, Chloe, Daddy, Millie and the aforementioned Neko. I believe this was my first time ever shooting extensively with five models (my previous record is four when I shot with Satan’s Children) though I mostly wound up breaking them up in to smaller groups. Neko also had to leave us pretty quick which reduced the group down to four.
After a fun time in the pool, Dahlia, Millie, and I headed to the Master Bathroom where we shot a beautiful shower set. I’ve previously shot in showers just a few times but the last time was with Dahlia in Orlando so currently she holds the record for Kung Fu Breakfast shower sets! After the shower I chilled and relaxed for a bit at the house before shooting my final and favorite set of the group. Dahlia and Chloe put together a Velma and Daphne of Scooby Doo cosplay. I was pretty drained by the time we got to this set but the costumes just inspired so much creativity that I hit a new creative stride.
Overall this was a really fun experience to shoot so much content with so many lovely ladies over this period of time and I hope I get a chance to again. Chloe and I really connected creatively. She’s a badass and would just come out of the shower, nude, fresh faced and I saw how beautiful she looked and wanted to photograph her and she just smiled and started posing. We talked music and geek stuff and have since traded Spotify playlists. Daddy was a dynamo with a real spitfire personality. This girl gives no fucks and was on top of her game including the fun watermelon stuff we did in her solo set. Millie was really rad to shoot and had great chemistry with all the girls. We talked later that we both wished we had had more time to shoot. Fun fact: Millie and I are both New Englanders and Millie is a skater. I didn’t get to spend much time with Neko but she seemed really sweet and we got some fun photos during the group shoot. And of course I love Dahlia with all my heart and appreciate her bringing me out, taking care of me, and being a killer Muse.
Did you think my Florida adventures were over? Oh far from it. After leaving the ladies in Miami I headed North to go stay with my family in the West Palm Beach area. I got to see my niece’s dance recital, I wandered around West Palm Beach and checked out some street art, visited an old Courthouse turned Palm Beach Historical Society with my folks, went on a little day roadtrip with my older brother to Lake Okechobee, and went on a walk with my Mom around the neighborhood, shooting all along the way. I was in a Sunshine State of Mind
Finally before leaving Florida I got a chance to head down to Miami one more time to shoot once again with Angie Mitchell. Angie is one of my favorite muses of all time and I was so happy to get the chance to shoot with her for the time since our first time way back in the beginning of last year. We started off our shoot in this little cornfield near her house. I love when Florida doesn’t feel like Florida and this was definitely it. After that we headed to the island of Key Biscayne to visit an abandoned spot I’ve had my eye on for a while. The Miami Marine Stadium was the arena for boat racing and has been left abandoned for years. It was a wild place and I loved shooting with Angie there before we eventually got kicked out by some very polite security guards. We finished our shoot further down the island at this weird creepy park we found. I loved my first shoot with Angie but this might have topped it.
My first shoot back in LA reunited me with my homegirl Ingrid Mouth. Ingrid and I last shot at the end of 2017 so we had a ton to catch up. We head down to the South Bay of Los Angeles to hit up Sunken City and Angels Gate Bunkers. We started at Sunken City but there were so many people out that day it just kept getting so distracting (though we did get some rad shots). After that we made our way to Angels Gate Bunkers (my unofficial studio) and really hit our stride. This was a really fun shoot where we definitely got in to some weird stuff including the appearance of a tentacled strap on.
This next set might be the rowdiest shoot I’ve ever done. Getting back to LA I realized I had a lot of free time that week and hit up the one and only Girlwolf Cindy Clark who just happened to be free. We decided to keep things kind of local heading back to Downtown LA where we previously shot together. Cindy brought along her friend Viola and the three of us got super silly for the afternoon. I had seen Viola around social media for a while I swear we talked about shooting together sometime awhile back so I was really stoked to meet her. Viola was a super cool chick and I hope to shoot some solo stuff with her in the future. We sound some cool industrial spots around the outer edge of downtown, eventually making our way over to the Arts District.
We shot a bunch at this arcade bar by the name of EightyTwo. I’m always reluctant to shoot too much at private businesses in LA as most places either want to be compensated or just hate shoots all around. Cindy said she had shot before before so I figured it was chill. For a while it was and we got in a full look for the two of them playing all over the arcade games. The girls bought beers so that probably helped our cause. After we left Cindy and Viola realized they hadn’t closed out their tabs. After a quick outfit change and a little more shooting we headed back to EightyTwo. The girls bought more beers and we decided to shoot in the pinball room. Well after not too long a bouncer came barreling towards me yelling “ARE YOU DOING A PHOTOSHOOT?”. We agreed to leave despite the fact that the bouncer seemed to have more interest in scolding us than anything else. Finally on our way out he called out to us “FUCKING WEIRDOS” and that was it.
We threw together a few more outfits in the parking lot where we all met up including set off some sparklers that Cindy brought. Despite the scolding incident we had a wild time and probably never stopped laughing. Normally I like get plenty of solo shots during these multi-muse sets but I didn’t have the heart to separate the girls so this is all non-stop Cindy and Viola or Beavis & Butthead
Sometimes a Muse is new, but not really. Sometimes you’ve known someone for years but you just meet them. Maybe that doesn’t make sense but that’s the case with this next muse. Dri and I have known each other for years on social media through the world of street art. I’m friends with both Dri and her boyfriend Quinn on Instagram and started bugging Dri about doing a shoot together a few months ago. At first Dri was a little nervous as she hadn’t really done any modeling but eventually hit me about a month ago asking if I’d still be interested. I actually wound up meet Dri and Quinn in person just before I left for Florida. I met up with Dri at the Los Feliz coffee shop she works at and Quinn just happened to be there. Quinn and I left and went hiking with a friend of us for the day which is why I shot the Los Feliz/Silverlake set from earlier in this post. After she got off work, Dri met up with us and we all hung out.
Fast forward a few weeks to our shoot. Dri and I met up in the late afternoon and had a really rad shoot starting at her apartment building rooftop and trickling out to Downtown. Dri put together some rave looks and for someone with little to no experiences I thought she great to shoot with. We really clicked like old friends and put together a bootyful set.
In my adventures I drive a lot. I really depend on my car, but every now and then it’s nice to get away from it and jump on public transportation. When I got back to LA I needed to have a new adventure with Miss Chaos so along with the returning Liza, the three of us decided to take The Metro from North Hollywood to Santa Monica. We had a fun adventure though I have to say that taking the trains takes SO LONG. We stopped in Downtown for a bit before heading to Santa Monica. We shot some photos along the way so this set is sort of a mixed solo adventure set for me as well as a multi muse set with the ladies. My only regret is that I wish we had shot some stuff on the train.
Remember how I said' you’d be seeing BB again sooner than later? Well a few weeks after our shoot I caught her band The Drained at The Silverlake Lounge and decided to bust out my camera for some live music shots. The Drained really rocked and it was cool to see BB in her element. I didn’t tell her I was coming so she was really appreciative and grateful to see me. It’s always a fun time to see my performer muses doing their thing.
This next Muse is making her debut solo set BUT actually made her first appearance last month during my trip with The Spritely One and Steven Burhoe to The Renaissance Faire. Besides being such a big fan, Sprite also happens to work at The Ren Faire, so when we went together she introduced me to a ton of cool people including a girl portraying a Puritan and shaming the vistors of the Ren Faire, who’s real name is Cheyenne. Cheyenne and I connected on social and quickly made plans to shoot together. The two of us headed deep in to the forest to one of my favorite spots, Murphy Ranch. Cheyenne is a cosplayer and brought some dope outfits including a pinup type look and a super creepy exorcist type witch. We had a really fun shoot and also get in a more casual Cheyenne look. Sadly one of my favorite buildings at Murphy Ranch, The Stables, had collapsed in some time since the last time I visited. I had great affection for this building was and sad to see it ravaged by time, though these things certainly happen. The shoot was really lovely and Cheyenne and I will be reuniting in about a week during Anime Expo so stay tuned to my social media.
And finally the last set (whooo!) brings me back together with my love Rose Page. I travelled out to Victorville to see Rose. I had already shot with Rose at The George Air Force Base and had been there a few weeks before with BB anyway so I really wasn’t sure where to go shoot. Rose and I explored and wound up finding this really bizarre and cool park overlooking some train tracks. The park said it was by reservation only so we were really alone there and no one bothered us. Afterward we found a few little small spots to shoot before I realized how close we were to The Rock-A-Hoola Water Park. I hadn’t been to Rock-A-Hoola since I shot there with Laura Wrong because during that trip my car had been broken in to by junkies. I felt the magnetic pull of the abandoned spot and decided to risk it. Well once we got there we realized someone had broken in to one of the entrances to fence and we were able to drive right in and keep an eye on my car. We busted out a ton of amazing photos and I’m really glad I was able to go back to this location as it gives me such fond memories. It was wonderful catching up with Rose and the next time you see her here will be her maternity photos so congrats to Rose!
Before I got I want to take a moment to pay tribute to a Muse that is transitioning out of our world. Recently Mika Mae Jones had a seizure that caused her to fall and left her with severe brain damage. Her family has been very forthcoming with everyone on social media about what is going on with her and have stated that they are currently in the process of finding people to donate her organs to before she passes on. Mika was one of my first muses. I found out about the incident the day after my shoot with Cheyenne, which only hit harder because Mika was the first person I ever went to Murphy Ranch with. Mika had Muscular Dystrophy and still made the 300 stair walk in and out of Murphy Ranch. Though we only shot together once, I loved photographing her. She thanked me during our shoot for shooting with her despite the fact that she had chipped her tooth around that time after a previous seizure induced fall. She was a gentle soul and touched so many people particularly in our Los Angeles Art Community as a Muse, Painter, and Human Being. Mika was very important to my early confidence as a photographer and I will always be thankful to her for our time together. Thanks you Mika from the bottom of my heart.

LAVENDER FIELDS
Tumblr media
Coming from a closet hippie such as myself, I will tell you that I genuinely favor music with positive messages over druggy EDM that suggests taking pressed pills in clubs because “we might not see tomorrow” or whatever. However, I’m not a dead head or into the touchy feely vibes of a kundalini yoga instructor turned day rave dj-- I want legit beats with empowering lyrics and I don’t want to compromise, damnit. In comes Lavender Fields, a Californian producer with a penchant for various shades of purple. Her first full length album, Music Beyond Music (out on June 22), sounds as though DJ Shadow and Flying Lotus (circa 1983/Los Angeles) took psychedelics together in Joshua Tree and decided to collaborate on a new age album that was produced by Prince Rama. Which sounds absolutely fantastic and translates into a magical bassy live show with some elements of reggae and a whiff of dream pop. Oh, and the record ends with a Saint Etienne sounding mid nineties synthy jam which somehow fits perfectly and gives me a heart-centered pep in my Doc Martin adorned step. I asked Ms. Lavender Fields a few questions about her music history and intentions for paving her artistic path...
Tumblr media
PLEIADESOUNDS What are your biggest musical influences? Normally when I listen to music I can pinpoint exactly who the artists listens to and is greatly inspired by, but yours seems to be inspired by more than just music...
LAVENDER FIELDS I suppose my influences can be traced back to classical music that I've been studying and playing since early childhood. Tchaikovsky is my all time favorite composer, I just think his music contains so much magic and wonder, it has always been able to take me to the most hidden and sacred parts of my soul. I am also greatly influenced by Bob Marley! There is something in his music that touches my soul very deeply and his life and message are one of the most moving ones for me. He passed on 40 years but his songs still bring so much love, positivity, happiness and hope to the people of all nationalities, races and walks of life! It's truly Universal. That inspires me a lot when I write music. I strive to be that force for good for all people and speak to all creation with my music. Amongst my other influences is Flying Lotus. Ever since I discovered his music, I fell in love with producing experimental electronica and creating my own weird lil sounds haha.
PS  In your opinion, in what ideal setting is best to experience your music?
LF Hmmm that's a good one! I'd say driving down the Pacific Coast Highway, windows down, heart open, ocean on the left, trees on the right, during the golden hour magic :)
PS You are a classically trained pianist. How did you go from that to bassy-electronic-hippie-princess?
LF I've been playing classical music all my life and then I realized that I wanted to be my own composer! I started making songs first acoustically with just a guitar, piano and voice. Then I got a bit bored of that and wanted to create more innovative sounds and experiment! I got into bass music and drank ayahuasca for the first time, went to some transformational music festival and I guess my music has been evolving together with my consciousness :) This is just a natural evolution of me as a human and a musician. I am constantly evolving and expanding on this journey. Eventually I will come back to classical music. I am starting to transcribe my music now and envision some very epic orchestral arrangements mixed with electronica and world music in the near future!
PS  With what sort of message would you like listeners to walk away after having seen you live?
LF Certainly my goal is to spread love through music. I want people to connect with their own soul and get to the very depth of it after listening to my music live. I want people to open their hearts and love one another! I want people to think about nature and our beautiful planet and how much we should cherish that. When I perform live, I give the very best of my soul and my heart, I always try to play a show like its my last one. This is such a passion and labor of love for me and I absolutely enjoy every aspect of music in every way!
PS  What can we expect from you in the future?
LF I definitely see myself forming a band of musicians to play Lavender Fields’ music. I also definitely see lots of orchestral arrangements in my music to express the beauty of our planet through music, to be the voice for the voiceless and to express every human emotion through music, to express divinity the way I see it through music. Music is such a beautiful and powerful medium that can move and unite people. I am forever grateful to be born with this gift. I like the idea of being a modern day composer and reflect the state of the world and the concerns of our generation through music.
