thinking abt merlin through the ages contending with the fact that arthur is still so present in the land. in mythology in legend in fairytales told to children in books and films and countless other forms of memory. throughout the world he is remembered still, and yes it isn't really him they're remembering, it's the legend of him, the myth, the heroic fool's gold shimmer of his legacy. but he's still here.

he's probably used to gore and gritty stuff like that since he sees it often being a jujutsu sorcerer and all. not to mention his technique is literally blood. maybe he's desensitized to gore films, the most you'll get from him is a disgusted scowl.

BUT DID YOU SEE HOW QUICK HIS EYE OPENED WHEN HANAMI SHOWED UP BEHIND HIM. YOURE SO FUCKING FR ABT JUMPSCARES. Noritoshi is that guy who wouldn't scream or yelp but gasp really loudly and jump out of his skin.

i feel like they get him most in horror because of the music building up anticipation. if its one of those fake outs where the jumpscare comes a bit after, he's fucked UP. It makes him instantly miffed, as he tries to regain his composure. He swears he's not usually like this, it got him by surprise is all..!

Noritoshi is the type that'd only watch a horror movie if the story is rich and complex. He's the type of guy to like open endings that make you think.. if it's a guilty pleasure movie where all the protags make stupid decisions, he gets annoyed right off the bat.

He's groaning and complaining about how imbecile the characters are, but would still watch it with you because you personally invited him. If he's lucky you could fall asleep on his shoulder or [insert movie cliche here] how could he pass that up? But Noritoshi wouldn't be able to focus on you if he gets twice as annoyed because its a bad movie + jumpscares. it still startles him, but the movie is so terrible, he's embarrassed it got him, especially in front of you!!!

if you get involved and you tell him to quiet down, Noritoshi would shift his focus towards you. like that awkward guy who thinks he's being smooth and lowkey about how he cuddles up next to you. He wants to be the tough guy who's shoulder you can hide in, and he is!! just not.. with jumpscares.......

ultimately if it came down to it, Dave BotBots would win in a fight by sheer Rube Goldberg improbable bad luck looney toons shenanigans. Simmons would be fully capable of murdering TFP Megatron with his bare hands. Schloder would get along famously with Sumdac in oblivious solidarity. Fowler would have the BotBots mall packed up and moved to a secure location within like two hours. Fanzone would be the one stuck watching the collective of children and be miserable about it but he’s also the only one who would be even capable of babysitting the lot of them so he’s the best choice.

More of my beast master ranger tav, Volya because they live rent free in my brain.

Volya comes off as a very quiet steady presence, having spent much time just them and their wolf companion, who they consider to be a brother. Spend a little time however and they become more animated, deeply playful and very physicaly affectionate. Volya is protective of them and theirs, slow to loosen their grip once they’ve decided someone is one of theirs.

They were raised in an isolationist society that dedicated themselves to protect a site where the veil between the worlds had worn thin. This order hid themselves and the site of power from the world and worked tirelessly to protect its borders, both physical and interplanar, from intruders and so Volya was raised as a warrior from a young age. They were taught how to fight as part of an effective unit, how to take the lead when necessary to reach the goal for the collective and how to wield Ranger magics to commune with the land they guarded. It was an upbringing taught them to shun the wider world and covet the closeness of their shield mates ardently.

They were later exiled from this society when the population outgrew what the teratorry could sustain and it was decreed some of their young and capable be sent out into the world to lessen the burden.

The approximately 25 years between entering the wider world and the events on the nautaloud were uneventful and desperately lonely for Volya, as their sister who had also been chosen to journey out with them perished due to illness early on. Their upbringing had not taught them how to reach out to those not already considered their kin and so they spend much of that time with only their dear wolf companion for company.

After the events of the nautaliod, both their training in fighting as a team and the excuse for much longed after companionship the shared problem provided served Volya well. My excuse for them being the main character is they were simply the most motivated to get everyone to participate in some semblance of teamwork. Laezel had many of the same skills in that regard but Volyas slightly higher charisma and benefit of being there longer had them winning out for this role

Early Volya was very amicable, they would not pry, they would not ruffle at any insults and they’d often offer their skills whenever the opportunity arose. They quelled arguments within the group when they could and they cut the figure of a selfless adventurer but in reality they were lonely, desperately scared and being liked or at least tolerated was a defence for that

At the first sign of the group electing them as the the decision maker they latched onto that responsibility fiercely. The parallels between their sisters illness and this groups seemingly fatal problem affected them deeply and they were very driven to get those they now considered their people.

They often but their tongue in the early days, only showing real personality when they were sure it would be welcomed but the first real slip of that mask was laezel and shadowheartd confrontation. Seeing them let a personal slight go so far with all that was at stake especially when Volya could see their upbringing’s had so much in common not only with eachother but their own had them snap.

The fact that incident gained them more rapot with both of them instead of chasing them away had Volya lowering their guard more and eventually they learned how to just be with people again instead of constantly finding a part to play.

While they do good when the opportunity is there, they are protective of their own to a fault. Volya would burn the world for those they felt responsible for if they would let them. Baldurs gate definitely benefited from a lot of the voices in Volyas ear leaning towards altruism. It’s not that it would be easy to turn them towards darker motives, it’s just that they’ve never entirely broken free of that isolationist way of being, they fall back to providing for them and theirs alone in hard times and they are fiercely practical when the need calls.

Volya was very easily steered towards fulfilling the vendettas the group held. It’s rare cases that they truly lean into the anger behind it, at heart they want the group warm, fed, healthy and safe and things in the way of that have to go. Slow to anger but also slow to calm the times Volya would get swept up in the vengeance could get messy.

After the elder brain they went with Wyll (at that point their betrothed) and karlach to the hells. As much as they’d grown on the journey there is something to be said about the fact they’re living the same life as ever: spending every moment driving towards a cure for karlach and chasing vengeance against mizora for wyll. That said those two are probably the best equipped to eventually encourage Volya to dream of something more in life. For now they’re just happy to have something to run towards with ones they love.
