Actually, that's something I pondered over adressing on my blog - so thank you for giving me the incentive to do so!

I am a fully baked, straight-ass fem-feeling woman, and I've always written from the point I knew best - my own. Which means I've always written my Reader inserts with the full intantion of the Reader being a AFAB fem-presenting full on woman too. This fandom opened my eyes for so much more possibilities - For the first time I'm enjoying reading stories about male love/nsfw (i.e. Bluest Monday by @bapple), sexually ambiguous reader-inserts (i.e. The Lookalike by @impale-me-radio-daddy), but the most surprising are the stories with a gender neutral Reader, especially when it's NSFW (i.e. LuciferxGN!Angel Reader by @hazelfoureyes)

I am dipping my toes slowly but surely in - for myself - unknown waters. I have to admit I'm still not brave enough to write MM/FF and GN stories (yet), not because I don't want to - but because I want to do it right and most importantly: respectfully to those who identify with these stories. Which doesn't mean I wont do in good time.

But in order to put out my best work, I feel like I need to consume more of those wonderfully written, exceptionally crafted works to deepen my understanding and broaden my horizon. The last thing I want is to publish something that would disappoint the intended readers, or worse hurt or offend.

-i like that people weren't left unscathed and came out changed, either emotionally like mithrun, kabru or marcille, or physically like falin, or both like laios. i would have liked to see marcille's reaction at thistle dying, considering she'd said she wanted to thank him for saving her life. i’d also have liked to see a reaction from marcille at having killed the canaries that one time.

-the fun part is going along on an adventure with a diverse cast in a cool world. that adventure vibe comes off so deliciously (hehe).

-the addictive part for me is mithrun and kabru, mostly when they're together. a kabumisu shipper, obv.

-now that all's said and done i can safely say, my faves are mithrun, thistle and kabru. i also have a soft spot for pattadol; she's sweet, she tries. i have soft spots for the canaries in general, they're fascinating.

ARC Review of Something Extraordinary by Alexis Hall

Premise:

Arabella Tarleton kidnaps her former friend Sir. Horley Comewithers to save him from an unwanted marriage, except she ends up kidnapped by him and eloping to Scotland instead.

My review

This was such a delightful read— hysterical in a way that veers towards absurd and full of equally hilarious modernisms, but it has so much heart and Big Feelings, and I admire the way Alexis Hall portrays the diversity of the queer experience so well in a historical setting.

Arabella is on the aromatic spectrum, and it's really interesting because she's also a big book lover who sees herself as the heroine of her own story (it's giving Catherine Morland)... except heroines usually have happy endings that involve falling in love and having grand romances, and Arabella has never quite been able to figure out that part. She's spent the last two books running away from a forced marriage, and then pushing away potential romantic partners, and now she's feeling lost. And it makes sense looking at this even from a modern perspective; In addition to the compulsory heterosexuality pushed upon us early on, there's also amatonormativity, the assumption that being in (usually monogamous) romantic relationships is the norm.

Belle is struggling to figure out what a "happy ending" means for her, so the distraction of "saving" Sir Horley from marrying a woman forced on him by his homophobic aunt couldn't have come at a better time. But Arabella being Arabella means that somewhere along the way, she decides to abandon her plan of kidnapping and eloping with Sir Horley... except Horley has a pang of conscience and kidnaps her right back to "save her reputation".

And that's Arabella to a tee; I think she is one of the more frustrating heroines I've read in a romance novel just because of her tendency to literally run away from her problems therefore making them bigger problems for everyone (as valid as her problems are; The patriarchy and forced heteronormativity suck!), and also her being quite.... trigger-happy. BUT Alexis Hall completely converted me over by the end, and other than enjoying her zany antics and novel way of looking at world, I empathized with her quite a lot.

I also really loved getting to read Sir Horley as a hero in his own right;. I'm SO glad he was never written off as a gay best friend because in the last two books, other characters considered him a shallow bon vivant even though he was a reliable friend to the Tarletons and co. Here, you get the raw, stripped down version of him (and unlike the prior two books, you do get both his and Arabella's POV). Horley— Rufus, as he decides to go with halfway through the book—has faced his share of tragedy and rejection, but the narrative doesn't super wallow on that.... he's not a sadboi hero by any means. He's quite cutting and much more competent than people give him credit for, but he also this tender side with Arabella that was already present while they were friends, but it's really lovely to see it develop into something more permanent as the book goes on.

The sex:

There is an EXCELLENT variety— there are MM, FF, and MF scenes. Arabella and Rufus have a non-monogamous relationship, and later on marriage as well.

This book is also a lot kinkier than the prior two and it's approached with the same lightheartedness as the rest of this book; consent is discussed and then you have everything from highwayman kidnapping roleplay to spanking, and yes, there is a Daddy moment— you'll be surprised how that comes about, but like the rest of this novel, in a GREAT way.

Overall:

I adored reading how Arabella and Rufus create their own rules for their marriage and seeing them happy together is everything. This is truly a boundary-pushing historical romance and I would highly recommend this to any romance reader.

Something came to my attention. I need to make it crystal clear that I utterly love the diversity in DAV. It's fantastic. I'm also a heavily left leaning, non-binary, queer as fuck reviewer, editor, and author.

I'm on media blackout while I play this, so I'm only getting second-hand info on how awful it is right now in the DA Fandom. Please be safe and take care of yourselves. Arguing with incels and white supremacists is completely pointless. They sea lion worse than an actual sea lion. Your mental health is important.

Y'know? Every single time the anti-queer brigade comes out for a new DA game, I sit there thinking 'have you Bozos ever played any DA game, like, ever?' My guess is nope.

If I've ever played a glitchier piece of shit game in my life I honestly can't remember it.

So I went to go watch a movie with the partner and kids. I saved my game and turned it off.

Came back and it played okay for a few hours. I met both Mae and Dorian squeeeee!

Met Davrin and Assan. Everything's going fine. I got creamed (again), I swear the devs have no idea. I'm a consistent gamer who plays on hard/tactician mode in most games I play. (Many the same style of fighting as DAV.) And I'm having trouble with the strength of these monsters. WTF do they think someone just getting into gaming is experiencing?

Anyway. I got creamed, clicked reload last save, and it loaded with the now far too familiar no CC reverted back to the basic elf body error. I went back to the main menu, and now absolutely none of the saves are showing up with video. They load with sound, map in the corner, and tags above heads but no fucking video. They're either corrupted or the game is just a piece of shit.

Yes. I'm rather annoyed. I was looking forward to finishing recruiting Davrin tonight and it doesn't make my brain happy to have to stop in the middle of what I wanted to get done. In game or out.

I'm currently verifying my files from steam. We'll see if that fixes it. I just... and this is what the devs thought was releasable? REALLY?

I know I keep using BG3 as a comparison (which honestly isn't a very good one because one is turn based and one 'live' fighting). But the Venn diagram of people who play DA and who play BG is probably a circle so that's why it comes to mind.

It's also the most recent game I've actually purchased and played a lot.

I played that day of release and on into the week and had nowhere NEAR this many problems. I actually think I've had more trouble with DAV in three ish days than I've had in BG3 for over 700 hours FFS!

Anyway. Vent over (for now. I imagine this game will give me plenty of more opportunities).

Dorian looked really weird. He has what I'm now dubbing the 'Solas effect'. He doesn't look like himself. I wouldn't have recognized him at all if it weren't for him introducing himself.

Oh, and way to retcon the condition of the veil guys. For three games it's been getting more and more tears and holes in it. Now it's solid and the only thing holding off a world of blight that hadn’t ever really existed in the fade like that before? It was just the black city. Do these guys ever get sick of retconning shit? I sure get sick of playing retconned shit.

My partner saw the game and he really can't get over how jarring the art is. He's a pretty consistent gamer too but I doubt he'll play this one.

Y'know how I said I didn't know WTF the devs were thinking in my review of the game play trailer?

I'm even more flabbergasted now. I just... seriously?

The game doesn't work well. it has numerous glitches.

The art style sucks.

The bad dudes are WAY overpowered for even a pretty decent gamer. Not so experienced gamers are likely rage-quitting in droves. Every one of the glitches I look up is pretty common. Even for people with better machines than mine.

The story took bloody forever to get started. It finally seems to have but it shouldn't take me 20 hours of game time to get somewhat invested in the story!

The characters are honestly pretty meh so far. My much beloathed Lucanis is the only mildly interesting one so far.

I honestly just can't get over how they felt this was A. Good. and B. Ready for release.

I'll keep trying. But if it's corrupted my whole 20 hours I'm not sure if I've got the stomach to replay all that boring assed nonsense to get to where I only just got to today.

I HATE writing critical reviews as a matter of course. I especially don't want to write them about a piece of intellectual property like Dragon Age that I love so very much. But What. The. Actual. Fuck.

By that logic nobody "need" dating (wich is untrue , humans are a very social kind and being blocked from accessing our social needs is actually traumatizing , hence why homophobia is such a traumatizing thing , as well as transphobia , being denied your identity and made to believe you're someone you're not is also very harmful , I invite everyone to do their own researches on humans social needs it's truly interesting) so here not only does meriam keep her daughter from her validation wich is something very important for her she ask her to not meet her social needs because 1 (2 men if we count the first husband) hurt her ??? It's incredible hypocritical and mean but still it could've been such an interesting plot to explore but rusty keep twisting it as "meriam can do no wrong"

Urgh more guiltripping , it's honestly very sad to see yet again how meriam , the mother , wasn't ready to die for her daughters but instead parentified her eldest to the point she was on thr verge of making the ultimate sacrifice because of meriam unwillingness to take on her role as a parent and instead acted as the one needing to be saved . It's sickening and yet if it was well written to show meriams flaw God it would be an insane plot line to demonstrate how complex relationships can become under abuse . But no , yet again it's made to romanticize, play in power fantasy and glorify the lesbian daughter and the bi mother she saved (maybe to demonstrate that lesbian need to save bisexuals from their attraction to men ?..)

She keep making shez the only priority. She parentifies shez to the prize of being her most important daughter/person as a whole . It's gross and disgusting because here it's glamorized to further the fantasy of saving someone and then being seen as their most important person as a reward . It's to the point where I'm wondering , did rusty dreamed of saving her mother ? Did she have a similar conversation and wished she was the one being important. I somewhat can relate to the deep desire of finally being seen and loved as equally as their sibling as you've been parentified . Even tho for me it happened under real trauma and not that disgusting excuse of a trauma depiction. Because rusty did admit to incorporate real stuff that happened to her in her life so I'm truly curious about it all .

As a whole this page was a gross excuse of either making meriam the hero into finally recognizing her daughter shez as the hero she is , the growth of the power fantasy rusty wrote for the other radfems/terfs that most likely want to romanticize others trauma as a power fantasy to enhance "women power n strength" , or this panel is a representation of something that happened to rusty at some point and wanted to express but twisted so this time she was the hero .

I'm going to assume you mean movie-wise because I don't really play horror games! (except Alien Isolation)

I'll put them below as a list, they're not in any particular order or ranking, they're just my top favourites :) I watch a lot of non-English language stuff so I'll put in if they're 'FLF' too to make it easier if you're not into those.

I highly recommend watching these blind. You get a much better experience. Use doesthedogdie and IMDB parent's guide for triggers; just search for your specific triggers with ctrl + F so you don't spoil yourself with other stuff. I have tried to put in what might be triggering but it varies

Senritsu Kaiki Files (Japan) - hard to find but there are links out there. It has a similar premise to Mob Psycho but is more grown up and a live action found footage. There are about 10 'movies', though they're more like hour long TV episodes. Hilarious, spooky, made by the great Koji Shiraishi. I'd also recommend Occult by the same director.

Hereditary (English) - I know people think this is overhyped, I personally believe it's one of the best movies of the modern age. Very poignant for abuse survivors and people affected by grief. All of Aster's movies are (imo) made for people who have lived through familial abuse.

Midsommer (English) - Again, as above. Aster is my favourite.

Evil Dead (2013) (English) - Fede Alvarez is another major favourite. This is a remake of the original by Sam Raimi. It has a darker, more morbid tone and is brutal as fuck. Personally, it's a comfort movie because I like horrible shit LMAO. Insane soundtrack too.

Cloverfield (English) - One of the first FF movies I ever saw. It is the stereotypical will-give-you-motion-sickness kind of movie if you're sensitive to those kinds of things but I think it adds to the real-feel panic.

Satan's Slaves and its sequel Satan's Slaves: Communion (Indonesian) - By Joko Anwar, another absolute favourite. Communion is imo better than the first. Very creepy. I really enjoy Anwar's movies because I have a lot of interest in Islamic horror/folklore. It's very rich and diverse, plus Anwar himself speaks a lot about the cultural and political aspects too.

The Queen of Black Magic (Indonesian) - Another Anwar. This is a remake of the 70's movie of the same name. Batshit insane final half hour, too.

Grave Torture (Indonesian) - Another Anwar again! Talks about the political/sociological stuff around Islam as a faith and has discussion on male sexual abuse (nothing explicit but implied, plus it's handled very well and gives great empathy to male-male abuse).

Alien: Romulus (English) - Duh. Another by Fede Alvarez.

All of the other Alien movies, except Covenant because it sucked.

The Substance (English) - Last twenty minutes is crazy. Really satirical view of misogyny.

MadS (French) - This movie is crazy because it is all a single shot. It was done over the course of one solid night and took like 4 takes to get right, which is mad for a debut film. Don't look up what it's about beforehand.

It's what's inside (English) - I only saw this a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised. Cool visuals and fun premise. Probably could have used another 40 minutes to finalise the ending as it felt a bit rushed but overall enjoyed it a lot.

When Evil Lurks (Spanish, Argentina) - Demian Rugna, yet another fav. Brutal, insane and metaphorically represents the awful things America/the Argentine government/capitalism did to the country. If you can stomach it, you'll find the inspiration even more horrifying. Monsanto are evil.

Terrified (Spanish, Argentina) - Rugna, again. Equally as brutal as the above. Opens viciously and continues with some of the creepiest stuff I've seen.

The Coffee Table (Spanish) - Dude this movie is so tense and devastating. Brutal. I felt so stressed watching it. It's only 90 minutes but GOD it feels endless.

Talk to me (English) - Fun, unique. A good time and quite creepy.

Late Night with the Devil (English) - This one feels like an SCP entry. Half FF and half studio. I enjoyed it.

Shin Godzilla (Japan) - Easily the best Godzilla movie. Body horror and the coolest fucking nuke laser Gojira ever. Some great metaphors for the things America did to Japan and some really cool, creative shots.

The V/H/S series (Multiple lang) - These are anthologies. There's about 4 or 5 separate editions. Not all of the segments are great but the ones that are are really fun.

The Fly (English) - Jeff Goldblum is naked/half naked in 60 percent of this and there's body horror, so it's amazing.

Inside (French) - The French are well known for their extreme horror and this is the definition of it. Avoid if you don't like intense gore.

The Wailing (S Korean) - Long, like most SK movies, but it needs to be. Creepy, sad, funny and very beautiful.

Exhuma (S Korean) - Gorgeous movie full of beautiful people. Cool bait and switch, with a very nice example of very accurate local witchcraft.

The Ritual (English) - Lads lads lads! Great British horror with old god ties.

Noroi (Japan) - FF supernatural. Creepy and uncomfortable.

Bone Tomahawk (Enlgish) - Fucking COWBOYS BABYYYYY! Brutal. Kurt Russell is in it so 10/10.

Hatching (Dutch) - Cute, gross. Story about a girl who adopts a monster. I got the joy of watching the creature puppeteer give a talk at a con and it was very cool to see how it worked.

These aren't all of my favs but it's a good start! I have a Letterboxd but I don't maintain it because I'm lazy, so it's got a few movies on it that aren't listed as well as non-horror stuff.

My AU & Headcanon

In this post, I'm going to explain many details about how I see the Winx universe. This post will be updated regularly.

A few words of introduction. 🍄

Hello there, I'm Sam. I'm 25 and I live in Paris, France. I have a degree in English literature, and most precisely as a researcher in American literature. So, yes, I love reading and writing. 🧡

Kimii used to be my user name when I was twelve. I used to have a french news account on Winx club. (does it still exist? Nope... the website shut down in 2023). So when I created my account here, I just kept it. It's a sort of identity I embraced my whole teenage years, so it made sense to keep it. It's my Winx Identity.

For the language, I write in English. I may be fluent, but I can leave some mistakes here and there. If you notice any big ones, please feel free to send me a DM. Thank you very much. It can be hard sometimes to notice them.

The first thing I think is essential to know about my writing, is that I grew up with the only french dub existing, which is based on the original one (Rai Italy). I stick a lot to the original plot while I try to make it more conherent and consistent.

Headcanon or Canon? ☀️

I'm mostly canon at first sight. Indeed, I stick to the original plot, but I also tend to modify details, timelines, or events so it makes more sense. I like to change those details enough that the story holds more realism and maturity.

One of the major things I do when I keep the original plot is that I add the details given in the comic books. For those who didn't read them, the main storyline is similar (Bloom looking for her parents, etc...) The comics feel more like filler episodes. That's why I like to add those details to my stories. For example, Bloom has a job in Magix. It is shown in the comics but not the cartoon. This detail makes sense as we see in season 4 that the specialists exchange valuables for paper money. The same goes for Bloom, she works in order to have Magix's currency.

So consider my Winx canon as a mix of both comic books and of the cartoon.

I write a lot about Bloom & Sky, (oops ?🤗) since they are my favorite. I have many, many, MANY ideas for them. So it won't be very balanced between the pairings 😶 However, I do accept prompts and requests for pretty much every character.

Most, if not all my stories are linked. I like to build a consistent timeline. So if you happen to read all the oneshots or longer ff, you will notice some ref to older ff or oneshots I posted. On my main post, always make sure to include a set timeline so it gives you an idea of where the scenes take place. After season 4, I don't acknowledge anything. Not even the second movie (I liked it a lot but it is a huge problem in my timeline since the dubs are all over the place...)

For the stories that happen in the future, those would be more headcanon. The pairings might be canon most of the time, the plots would be so advanced that I don't think they can be considered canon. Plus, I love world-building.

Information on some characters. 🌈

Musa & Tecna: not royals in my AU. They are not introduced as such in the Rai version. Plus, I much prefer them as "normal people" as it brings even more diversity to the cartoon. I would hate to have most Winx girls being princesses... For Tecna, I want to work on her as half fairy, half android. Just like she was supposed to be.

Riven: Oh Riven.... I have a sort of affection for him. Like a soft spot for who he could be if the writing of the show had given him more time to grow. I will work on that. You have my word. Not only do I want him to have a past, but also a future. I see him doing great things.

Aisha/Layla: In the french dub, she is called Layla, but I really like Aisha because we love diversity here. Plus, Aisha has a beautiful meaning!

Sky: In my AU, he stays Brandon at the beginning and then Prince Sky later on like in the original. I plan on writing a few oneshots about what if he had been "prince Sky" from the beginning, or if he had never attended Red Foutain (I really like that one hehe).

Helia: I like the idea of Helia being a bit cold and blunt, like at the beginning of season 2. (or at least he was in French). That man did not care about anybody but Flora and I loved that. So I will work with him in that way.

Diaspro: I get that most fans tend to redeem her a lot, but I think her arc in seasons 1, 2, and 3 is brilliant. Although the path of the narrative did not allow her to grow a little bit or even explain why she behaved the way she did. So, my Diaspro is still... Well Diaspro, but I want to build her more realistically. She is an interesting character. Her being a fairy and yet being manipulative and self-centered is much more realistic. It brings a lot of dimention to the magical world. Wwhat if she was forced by conventions and traditions to be a fairy, because of her nobility ? hmmm... You will have to wait and see.

Nabu: Don't talk to me, he will live on forever on this Tumblr. While I love him, and I adore his sacrifice, I can't let go of him. He is just sleeping, Okay. Now move along. 💨

Samara and Erendor: I have read @gins-potter fanfic (go read it! ) and she made me remember one of my childhood frustration. Why in the world does Sky look nothing like his parents??! Erendor looks like... Brandon? She actually changed their appearance, which I loved. I want to keep Samara as she is, but maybe Erendor will have to suffer a rendez-vous at the hairstylist. And @gins-potter agreed to let me use her depiction of Erendor since it feats perfeclty the way I imagined him.

Domino/Sparx: I will only use Domino as it is the name I always knew. Same for Melody.

When it comes to the Winx and their life after Alfea, I have a very detailed idea of their jobs and position etc... I will either do a post abour it, or just let you guys discover more about it in the stories.

Alrighty motherfuckers I feel like shit and am mad asf so you're getting a rant about Invasion Day (full disclosure, I write this as a Caucasian second-gen Australian. I am not of Aboriginal descent and do not speak for them. I only aim to give my own opinion on January 26th celebrations.)

It's just so unnecessary and outdated to be celebrating the day that foreigners came into another country, claimed it as their own and just started blatantly killing Indigenous populations to the point of near eradication. Now that we can see the bigger picture, have access to information and can recognise how fucked that was and how it continues to affect Indigenous people and Australian society today, why are we still celebrating it?? What, precisely, is there to celebrate, when specifically on that day?

'It's to celebrate the Australian culture and the diverse landscape' okay. That's great! Change the damn date. Out of sheer respect because WHY. Why would it then continue to be on January 26th? Change it to May 8th or the day we lost the emu war or literally any other time. Make it clear that's the meaning. Let it be a day for the reminders of our past and hope for the future. Not 'yay let's all drink beer some guy came, stole land and killed anyone that didn't look like him because some other guy told him to'

I may be slightly misremembering statistics but something like 1 in 2 Australians are from another country or have a parent from another country. Australia is no longer 'White Australia' and is instead a big potluck soup of cultures and languages and people, and that diversity is what makes our country beautiful.

But the unmistakeable ignorance of so much of the population continues to amaze me. Why are we not listening to the Indigneous people and what they have to say? Why are we not learning to right our ancestors' wrongs? And ffs why did so many people vote no in the referendum?

Anyway in conclusion I hate 'Australia Day' celebrations, wish my family didn't force me to participate (if I speak up u will get shut down and discredited), and Captain Cook can suck my dick

this is funny to mention. ill give the dia lore. but i wanted to make an au for fnaf so badly where all the william kids got to be happy or something. but my grandma thought it was weird because i made the new owner of the pizzeria a man so i never built more on the au. but i remember a lot of it... i got really into building a perfect establishment that taught kids everything they need to know and everything. like chica for example taught fitness. toy bonnie taught them how to balance fun and responsibility. toy foxy teaching kids the importance of being yourself. etc etc. (i didnt bother with freddy my bad.)

i also had this humanoid animatronic custom night au. it was mostly just me going insane over funtime foxy and toy foxy's friendship and how close they were. i even wrote a little fic where FF did TF's nails and it was so sweet.

blah blah........ i lauve fnaf so much. my comfort series for so long. idk why i saw those animatronics and was like "yup. diversity win!" but erm.

here's a tier list i made in like 2020. im too lazy to make a new one. some of this is a little outdated. but we move.

If we had one more non-white male character with no romantic plot or even a mention of a romantic partner/interest I'd be mad as hell.

And no, I'm not saying that every character needs to have romance in its story, but the way Marvel always stretch to give a white man a love interest while they rarely make the effort to do the same with most of the few poc characters drives me crazy.

No but seriously:

Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Thor, Scott Lang, Peter Quill, Stephen Strange, Peter Parker, Bucky Barnes, Loki, Ikaris, Druig, Dane Whitman, Clint Barton, Steven Grant(Marc Spector) and Matt Murdock.

These are all the white male main characters from the mcu. Now guess how many of them has/had a romantic interest. If you guessed ALL OF THEM you are absolutely correct!!

Now the poc:

T'Challa, Sam Wilson, Shang-Chi, Phastos, Gilgamesh, Kingo and now Nick Fury.

This list is so ridiculously short that makes me want to add Rhodes and M'baku on it, but it's supposed to be a main character list so it wouldn't be fair. Anyway, guess how many of those have a romantic interest!

Exactly 4 out of 7!! And in case you're wondering those four are T'Challa, Phastos, Fury and Gilgamesh (even though some people don't consider him because he and Thena weren't an "explicit" couple Angelina Jolie confirmed that it was a romantic relationship).

I know it's kinda unfair to ask for more romance when we need more poc characters first, but it really pisses me of that the only few times Marvel decided that a character didn't need a partner was when said character wasn't white.

Like, c'mon, they'd go out of their way to give us some weird-ass couple like this

but they can't even simply mention that Shang has a girlfriend or a crush or fucking something!!

I mean, ffs for them is easier to create a love story to Vision and Drax who are literally a robot and an alien!! And it's not that I don't like their stories, I actually love them, it's just that I can't believe thay can do that but they can't get Sam a date or something like that.

And it doesn't need to happen only with main characters, like, how much would have costed to put an extra on set when Rhodes fell during civil war and say it was his wife??

Of course I would prefer a relationship better developed than the examples I gave, but the fact that they don't even did this shallow shit it's pretty alarming to me. It just shows how they don't really see poc characters as true characters but simply as demands to be attended so they can claim they support diversity inclusion.

i don't have a lot of time or bandwidth to read to read fics outside of my main fandom at the moment (my evergreen trash man, sev) so i'll focus on that. if i think up any other rarepairs from other fandoms, i'll include them, but the fact of the matter is a lot of the other fandoms i'm in don't have quite as diverse a set of characters as this universe, so it's not as easy.

also general disclaimer that i read any and all pairings as long as the plot interests me, so i've probably seen this man shipped with everything at this point :)))

without further ado and in no particular order --

snilch. trust me, i wasn't sure about this pair either but, as with many others, the fic Father to the Man by Delphi absolutely floored me and convinced me of its potential. i think i read The Lad is Gone shortly after and it was just...i was sold. sold, i tell you. adjacent readings that i can recommend is one where filch is the main character but sev shows up a lot in it too: ozma's Squib series on ff net is fantastic. (also features filch accidentally almost killing sev with his newfound powers and rolling in guilt for it)

snetunia. this is just a delightful and guilty little pairing that i absolutely love. they're more alike than they are different, given their personalities and their view of the world. petunia is cynical, hateful and spiteful, and is an excellent mirror to snape and his own flaws. A Part of Yesterday is one of my fave fics for them and so is Abide in Me (Love is Not Enough). A Fish Without a Bicycle satisfied a sense of fluff and Always is a poignant little fic wherein they're all miraculously friends, which was a refreshing change.

snagrid. just rediscovered this quite recently actually because i remember there used to be a site dedicated to this pairing. Thief in the Night rekindled my love for it. there's just something about a gentle giant and an acerbic potions master with their massive size differences and the fact that hagrid really doesn't care for sev's frilled-lizard act that makes for fun reading. they also make for good friendship fics, like in It Was the Tea!

stonks. it was @chiwi-la-capybara's story, The Itch, that really hooked me into this pairing. i loooove the dynamic and potential they have, with tonks being a clumsy and fun-loving cop while sev is just...the way he is. :)) Escape is a good action-filled fic too and has them both playing the roles they're assigned to play.

toby/eileen!!! you know i had to put this in. i count them a rarepair because i'm of the what-if-toby-and-eileen-actually-did-get-along line of thinking. one of the most recent ones i've read is Over the Edge which i think captures their relationship(s) perfectly.

i've lost so many good fics over the years due to forums shutting down and links being thrown to the wind but if y'all have other recommendations for these pairings pls share! :)

1. Bayonetta <- Bayonetta

I just love her, okay. She's gorgeous, she's confident, she's a witch that fights with her hair and can run 80 mph in 5in pumps. Jokes aside, I just love that her sexuality is a thing that she owns and has fun with-- and it's never used against her maliciously. (I also love her parallels to Dante my other fave). I could go on more but basically... she's truly one of a kind.

2. Akihiko Sanada <- Persona 3

My long-time beau. I RP'd him for about 8 years and met a lot of good people through that blog so I'm a little biased in how sentimental I am over him and Mitsuru. I'd add her too but I'm doing my best to be diverse here. Anyway, I just love him-- he fits all of my standards. He represents the Emperor arcana: the 'father' type. He's a control freak, he drags his guilt around by the ankle, is fiercely protective, has a little jealous streak, and is a hot-headed idiot (who is actually very smart)... And DON'T say it's because he has white hair.

3. Garnet <- Final Fantasy IX

The older I get, the more IX means to me. She has been my favorite since I was little. Not to get personal but I find her relatable: she grew up sheltered but was expected to do great things, and I am sympathetic that her mother (once kind and loving, even though we don't see it) was turned against her by forces she couldn't control. She deals with her grief more realistically than most FF heroines-- she gives into depression and self doubt but she never becomes bitter and that's something I want for myself.

4. Yuna <- Final Fantasy X

My grandma and I played all the FFs together, but the one that really made an impression was X. Yuna is my love: thematically, symbolically, and aesthetically. My sacrificial lamb who would burn herself to keep others warm. She takes her notoriety and her father's burden with grace and never shies from it even when she loses her faith in the system designed to throw her to the wolves. Also every line she has has such gravitas behind it... beautiful writing, beautiful voice acting. My forever girl.

5. Nier <- NieR

My doomed boy. I don't want to go into spoilers because Nier is more of a niche game, but I love him so much (and dadnier, too.) The moral quandary this game has... the morally grey protagonists... I love a character who loves with all his heart and would give anything for the people he loves. The side-story where it's implied he even ***** ******* for some coin was... man.

6. Kim <- Xenogears

Trying not to spoil here either it's just vague. IYKYK.

I thought about putting Elhaym here but I feel like the Zeboim era has more characterization than the main lol. Anyway. I love how he has become so cynical about the world around him, yet he is still willing to save and create life, only to find he suffers from the same affliction. As a scientist, he embodies the question: 'What makes a God?' and 'What is does it mean to be human?'. I love his story and I wish there was more.

7. Rubedo Yuriev <- Xenosaga

He's an idiot, he's a tragic figure, he's learned, he's traumatized, and his relationship with MOMO is uhhhhhh complicated. Honestly maybe I should have put Yuriev here because he's such an interesting villain. The URTVs are all squashed together for me like one big delicious smoothie anyway so.

Anyway Rubedo, your dad stared into The Abyss and it stared back and now he's insane and his fear of God and his own mortality was so strong he would use his own flesh and blood to run (and it was honestly really sexy of him) but what he never seems to grasp is that you can't run from what you can't see and sooner or later it will catch up.

8. Misato Katsuragi <- Neon Genesis Evangelion

Hi I love women with daddy issues.

I love her with Kaji. She looks for her father in him, while he's searching for his mother, but Misato, try as she may, she will never be a mother to anyone--not to Kaji, and certainly not to Shinji. There's a ton you can read into nge characters but there's something to be said about the trauma our parents force us (willing or unwillingly) to inherit, and how we hurt others as a result of that.

9. Dante <- Devil May Cry

He's so fucking stupid (affectionate). Dante Alighieri is rolling in his grave.

He's not only a boyloser but a boyfailure. He gets bullied by women and children and could probably suplex the earth. He loves his mom!!!

Anyway I love that he exudes a type of masculinity and machismo at first glance only to play the game and see he's a little fruity. I'm also a sucker for characters with duality themes that, when asked 'what makes us different?', the answer is because they chose to love-- which is not something you'd expect from a hack n slash game, inspired by resident evil in which you find new and exciting ways to kill things... yanno?

10. Kenzo Tenma <- Naoki Urasawa's Monster

I was running out of characters and was about to put Thancred or Squall but that's too many FFs so I tried to think of some anime that made an impression on me and Tenma came to me. We needed another Liam O'Brien rep here, clearly.

Anyway read/watch Monster if you haven't, it's an amazing mature series that barely feels like an anime.

Again, the themes of duality here-- who embraced life and who would rather take it? If Johan represents the inherent evil in the world, and man's propensity for it, then Tenma represents all that is good. He's just so tragic. The moment he finally stands up for himself he's punished for it, then when pushed to his limit, saves the life of a little boy only to be cursed for it. Even through everything he never gives up on people, and every life he touches is changed for the better. And that ending... oh man.

"Then are you saying that I am guilty? My only guilt is knowing how dirty nobles are and still hoping that they would show an ounce of pity... tell me where has that led me?"

When did it all go wrong? From when? Was it this moment? Or a lot sooner?

I have been all alone for a long long time... It was better to have no one than someone who hurt me over and over again. The only man I once wanted to give everything to was now standing in front of me, betraying me.

All those that once cared for me were dead... I had killed them with my own hands just to live...

Why won't anyone help me find my family? Why won't anyone hear my pleas... Why? why? WHY?
