Exorcism at 60000 feet (2020)

Basically this movie is what you expect, Airplane gone horror but yet its not. Right off the bat I will just say I enjoyed this much more than I expected too. Crude present day humor that tries to be racey is often more miss than hit for me, but there is more going on here. This is shockingly very well shot for a movie so cartoony, Director Chad Ferrin is professionally a horror film maker and so he films this like one. Also no offense Chad but this shockingly looks more professional then your other outtings too. While the gags are constant there is not the usual "spoof" style to it. The plot revolves around a bunch of weirdos on a plane with a evil ghost. The weird passengers seem to be aware that each one of them is weird and add to a mix of "sort of" tension. Example of that is a slap stick scene where a Rabbi is climbing over a sleeping body builder to get out of his seat to go to the bathroom, he gets stuck, wakes the body builder ups, apologises and they both feel akward. If this was one of the Airplane movies no one would have been phased. With out spoiling everything this comes into play in the pre credit opening scene where the priest shows up at a house filled with victims. The scene is filled with oddities but from the music cues and atmospheric shots make it a legit horror film until it mades into a dirext rip off of the Airplane movies theme sound done slightly in the tune of the Excorcist. Being the HUGE Airplane fan that blew my mind.

There are some direct stolen Airplane jokes but its ok cause they were stolen from other things then too. Id love to talk more of how the scenes play as comedy or as any 80 horror film depending on the music and timing, like doom one second then cricket sfx or a record scratch the next, but if I say more that would spoil stuff. I will say Adrienne Barbeau and her dead dog go exactly as youd expect it would. The airplane crew of Bai Ling and Mathew Mow are the only pure comedy characters while Lance Hendrickson as the messed up pilot plays it dead straight (sort of). People will love Bai Lings role but I found it trying way too hard however Matt Mow has comic timing skills to spare.

Keep in mind that this movie is made by Girls and Corpses magazine so I did not go into this with high production expectations. All the cheap gags are their and then some. Including a (spoiler) nun on nun sex scene that screams Girls and Corpses magazine, which starts super silly and but then quickly turns kind of horrific as well.I suppose that's all part of why a magazine like that has stayed in publication way longer then you ever have expected it to.
