The Music Man is a 1962 American musical film directed and produced by Morton DaCosta, based on Meredith Willson's 1957 Broadway musical of the same name, which DaCosta also directed. Robert Preston reprises the title role from the stage version, starring alongside Shirley Jones, Buddy Hackett, Hermione Gingold, Ronny Howard, and Paul Ford.
Released by Warner Bros. on June 19, 1962, the film was one of the biggest hits of the year and was widely acclaimed by critics. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, with composer Ray Heindorf winning Best Music, Scoring of Music, Adaptation or Treatment. The film also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Preston and Jones were both nominated in their respective acting categories. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Another film made in Fascinecitta.
Le Mépris by Jean Luc Godard
Why did I see it: I'm a basic cinephile and a pretty much simp for Godard and 60's France. Also it was the only one I haven't seen in:
Where did I see it?: MUBI, only Breathless, Masculin Femenin and 2 or 3 things I know about her were there apart of Le Mépris, so simple choice. I was kinda sad because I wanted some of the power duo of Anna Karina and Godard.

Thoughts: Hear me out, this movie is a work of art, and I wouldn't say that for most of the films I've seen (Well, if it's Godard maybe I would) Brigitte Bardot's performance is incredible, as a polyglot it was simply amazing to also hear Giorgia Moll's translating English, French, Italian and German and exchanging all of them at any moment of the movie. I really hated the American character and it made me realize how much I hate American cinema and America in general LMAO (U.S. Embassy if you see this and for some reason I have to go to your hell, I'm kidding) The lightning and scenario was really on point. The landscapes in Italy interpolating with The Odyssey sub-plot while also the main plot being an extrapolation of it was so cool! It really made me think how love can pretty much just vanish at any given moment. While a lot of people see this movie as a big parallel between men and women as most of Godard's films (let's ignore the domestic violence hereee <while I do think it was important in the film and just taking one scene as a critique for the whole movie is reductionist>) I see it more of a parallel between the one who loves more than the other. The end reminded me of Pierrot's and I really liked it. The scenes of The Odyssey while I realize weren't the main focus could've been really better, Odysseus was boring and dumb but maybe it was the reminiscence of the main character who was the same. I hated everyone except for Francesca and Fritz Lang whom I didn't know any movie apart from Metropolis and I'll watch it in full as i haven't. And maybe get more into pre WWII films. (It always just hurts me just seeing pre WWII things as it makes me wonder how things could've been)
Long Term: Be careful with long trucks and hairy scriptwriters.
Score: 8/10
