Unlike the vast number of people whose culinary traits have caused a proliferation of social media posts and irritating small talk at social events, I intensely dislike cooking. The practice of preparing any kind of recipe that is more complex than turning a slice of bread into toast elicits in me a feeling of dread shared only by high school students who are about to take an examination they are knowingly unprepared for. I have, however, come to the irritatingly adult realization that should I want to continue feeding my expensive record collecting habit, I must also find a way to stop feeding myself outside my home. As a reminder of the nobility of this temporary sacrifice of sanity, is important to put on the correct record before going about the insufferable task at hand. Gigi Masin's landmark ambient masterpiece, "Wind", is the kind of album worth cooking to, and for. A series of calming, layered, synth-heavy compositions that are meant to evoke breezes rather than tornadoes. Intensely soothing, and quite pretty at times, even when he decides to sing in his italian accent (Italo-Ambient is a thing). It is the perfect recording to have on when your salt shaker decides to demonstrate its capability to disassemble itself over the piece of chicken whose smell has already decided to take temporary residence in every piece of fabric in a 5 meter radius. A good companion, too, to its younger brother - "Clouds", in which Masin teams up with Young Marco and Jonny Nash as 'Gaussian Curve' to produce similar ambient bliss. I've already reviewed that one here, and it's a great soundtrack to the other inevitable outcome of cooking your own meals - dishwashing.
