The secret gift.
Synopsis: The truth behind Ethan's first Christmas with Aspen's family.
For @choicesficwriterscreations holiday event using the prompt buying a naughty present for LI and mum ends up on the line behind them.
Jade and Tatum giggled once more in a hushed tone as they threw another ball of wrapping paper at Ethan who had, after a long day at work, passed out on the couch. He snored lightly and the girls took turns throwing the paper in tune with his snores.
Aspen walked in, noticing the scene before her, the girls looked at their mother for approval but on this rare occasion she gave them a glare, yet gently whispering.
"Stop it you two. He's had a difficult day and whatever he may say, he tires out. "
She nudged them back to actually begin wrapping the gifts. Since only Jonah was actually young enough for the whole Santa thing, he was already tucked in and fast asleep. The girls were on wrapping duty while Aspen put things in order in the kitchen, Ethan had done most of it when she had been out Christmas shopping and picking the girls up from the airport, who had visited her parents in Florida for Christmas break.
She gazed at the living room as she cleaned up, joining her family in the warm glow of the Christmas tree. She noticed Ethan had woken up and was entertaining the girls who were now too busy laughing.
Aspen walked in, wrapping her arms around Ethan's neck from the back as one of his hands came to rest atop hers. He looked up smiling at his wife, they shared a quick kiss before Aspen joined him on the couch.
Pulling the throw around their bodies, they stared at each other, momentarily forgetting their company.
"Dada! You were telling us about your first Christmas at Nana's. " Tatum reminded, grinning slightly.
"What about it? "
"Don't you think you forgot to mention something? Cause Nana told us quite a story. " Jade chided, throwing a furtive glance at her mother.
Ethan's eyes followed to land on his wife who seemed to have suddenly caught on, going red and flustered, she glared at Jade for broaching the subject. Curious, Ethan asked,
"What did she say? "
"Oh, a terrible mistake, a horrible run in. " Jade continued, Tatum threw herself onto the carpet, putting up a show of distress.
" Jade Ivy Ramsey!! Stop it! "
"It's the reason mom took you to Florida for Christmas. "
Ethan's head once again turned to his wife who looked a little resigned and uncomfortable as she began explaining.
"Remember how I called you to join me after I was in Tampa? It's cause my mom.... met me at the check out. "
"Yeah! Nana said you were buying Dad a present but it was a secret and Nana found out so she threatened to tell him unless he joined you for Christmas. "
"What was it, the gift? "
"Uh,... his favorite....coffee machine. He hated the hospital coffee. " She replied a little lamely, thankfully the girls didn't catch on, convinced by their mothers reply, Ethan however, was the better judge.
Soon after, they all headed to bed and Ethan finally confronted his wife.
"The coffee machine? "
"Uh yeah.. About that. " She answered sheepishly, once again her cheeks turning red at the old memory.
"Remember the Christmas special lingerie? "
"Of course I do. " Ethan replied, smirking at the various instances, which sadly ended when the flimsy cloth was unable to put up with their list filled frenzy. Suddenly, his brows drew together, confused at the change of subject.
"My mom caught me buying that. "
"You... What? " Ethan's mouth fell open, eyes flicking with horror, he continued staring mutely at his wife.
"I was in the check out line and mum happened to be behind me. I was talking to Sienna at the time, telling her how you would definitely appreciate the gift, with red being your favorite and all.. I got a little carried away.. Anyway, she firmly insisted that she simply must meet the man who would 'in so many ways ravage me' and 'make it the best Christmas Eve and morning ever. "
"No No... Penny.. She knew the whole time! "
"Since the first time she met you. At least she didn't tell the girls the whole truth, I need to have a word with her about that. "
He sat down on the bed, sighing heavily before meeting his wife's gaze.
Aspen straddled him, taking his jaw in her hand and connecting his lips to hers. Pushing him onto his elbows, she gently sucked at his pulse point, soothing it with her tongue. He moaned loudly as she moved away to pull her shirt off.
" I have always maintained you will be the death of me, Rookie. "
"Don't you dare tell me you don't like it. How about I try to find that lingerie again? "

Physical Stores you can Buy Gothic Goods in, by Morticia Fattyms
Okay you Spooks,
Let me just state that you should always wear what feels comfortable *on you* and looks good *to you*. To be Goth isn't the clothes you wear, strictly speaking, and there isn't a Defined Look. Have FUN with yourself! If you think you look good and you feel good like that, that's all that matters.
Gothic Aesthetic and Fashion is colloquially referred to as "Goth" all of the time. Goth is a term used to describe some songs, and has many musical genres that find their audience under the name of "goths". Anyone with Google-Fu understands that sometimes the simplest tag is the most effective for reaching a larger audience. To keep our wonderful community of Artists and Creators thriving, growing, and easier to navigate, I'm saying Goth, Gothic, and Alternative interchangeably or where appropriate.
The loaded question,
"What makes something Goth?/Why do Goths like these things?" (Surprise, it's actually 2 questions!)
There isn't a predisposed rule about Bats, Bauhaus, and Halloween being Goth, we just happen to like them as individual people and found people that ALSO liked them. Its a surprisingly, almost singular circle, Venn Diagram. That being said, we do tend to appreciate a lot of the same design elements, and can thus comfortably find items we enjoy by engaging with the use of word "goth". We enjoy symbolism, creative use of colors, and recycling older designs to create newer ones. We definitely take inspiration from thousands of sources, like Victorian fashion, fetish gear, and Punk's DIY attitude. Your look should be personal to you, inspired by the things you love to engage with, and feels comfortable for you to enjoy wearing while dancing.
That said, not everything I list in my endeavors to support the growth of our community will be strictly gothic, because there isn't a defined look to being Goth. I hope you'll still check it out, and, if you like it, support it!
It's pretty easy to find "Gothic style" online, but do you really trust that "gothic mall online" drop shipper? Are you on a budget and shopping fast fashion apps that send clothes you end up not liking? It's okay if that's what you do, it really is. There is something to admire about the convenience and lack of social anxiety we enjoy from Online shopping. However, I want to talk about Physical Stores.
While my favorite store, Anarchists Closet, has closed, my love for that shop, it's amazing owner, and the community it brought together, is undying. Anarchist's was loudly inclusive of it's customer base, was active in the community through events, ticket sales, and fashion shows, and ensured we'd see our favorite pieces at events again and again. Their Mission was always clear: We Dress Everyone! The world needs more Anarchist's Closets, and I'm going to Find them!
Here's a few stores you can stomp your stacks into and play dress up in for an hour or two. Please, buy something from them. Hell, get a gift card for your friend you thought of in there if you can't find anything for yourself. The Community needs these stores to thrive so that more can be inspired to start up! Be inspired to start your own wildly unique and wonderful Alternative store for us to explore!
This is Definitely NOT a COMPLETE list. (In fact, I got overwhelmed writing this and took forever to publish haha)
Email [email protected] when you find places! World Wide Accepted! Please include a full street address with business' name!

I want to end this on a small love note to a new found source of community for me:
Alternative Markets.
We have to keep them going, to keep the Community going.
Whatever you want to call yourself, an Alternative, or Punk Rock Flea Market, Faire, or Festival is where you want to go to find the people hand-making intricate, meaningful, and life saving products. To be clear: you would be the life saver in this situation, where you buy something from a creator, offsetting the cost of the booth rental and travel costs that can really cut into budgets. Many people have conditions that make working regular jobs difficult, vending at markets are often a good source of income for them. Additionally, they're a fantastic opportunity to find a new favorite Local Band to support as well! Whoa! That's a 2 for One, Pal! Score!
Many are free, or have free parking but charge entry. I do suggest taking enough cash for your daily purchases, just in case there's bad signal in the area, a Food truck can't take digital payments, or you decide to buy a local band a drink.
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you find any local physical shops I should add to future blog posts.
Also, let me know about events happening near you! Gothic. Info. 666 is building a network of event promotion for the Goth/Alternative communities, and we'd love to have your help!
We'll be posting submission guidelines soon!

Pedestrian trails provide designated paths for people to walk, run, or bike away from cars and traffic, which can be really helpful for exercise and enjoying the outdoors. It also encourages more people to walk instead of driving, which can help the environment by reducing pollution and traffic congestion. Insider's Guide to the 27th Annual Kumquat Festival on January 27, 2024
Known as the family-friendly alternative to Tampa's Gasparilla Festival, Dade City's Annual Kumquat Festival offers a more relaxing event with great vendor shopping, homespun talent, an amazing car show, and activities to satisfy all ages! Best of all, it is free to attend and shows off a community's dedication to its little orange citrus fruit, the kumquat. Have you ever tasted kumquat pie? Kumquat beer? Kumquat wine? Kumquat jelly? How about the little orange fruit that is both sweet and sour at the same time? Whether your answer is yes or no, you will want to attend the 27th Annual Kumquat Festival for all the best in kumquat fun, food, and finery. It's time to bite down and feel that delightful burst of deliciousness that is nearly as joyful as saying the word, "kumquat" is to the silly side of our lives! The 2024 Kumquat Festival will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Dade City, Florida. Vendors, activities, and entertainment will be located around Pasco County’s iconic historic courthouse. This year's festival's headline sponsor is once again AdventHealth. The Festival is also sponsored by the City of Dade City, among other local and regional organizations, including yours truly, NatureCoaster.com. Once again Kumquat Festival features over 350 vendors, food trucks, a classic car show, a kid's corral play area, and more. This year's event promises great shopping, as well as generating a lot of excitement from the local merchants and the City itself. Festival goers will be able to enjoy classic kumquat favorites like kumquat pie, kumquat wine, and kumquat beer, of course, but what else can you expect at the 27th Annual Kumquat Festival? "Historic Downtown Dade City will be transformed into a gigantic marketplace focused on local businesses, hundreds of specialty vendors, dozens of partner sponsors, and the friendly, down-home, unique old Florida experience that the Annual Kumquat Festival has come to mean," says Vicki Wiggins, CEO of the Dade City Chamber of Commerce. "Join us to try all the wholesome food available including kumquat pie, kumquat salsa, and numerous kumquat recipe specialties. Shop for crafts, enjoy the art displays and visit our sponsors' section. There will be a children’s activity area, a classic car show, craft kumquat beer and wine, and lots of fun things to do," adds Melody Floyd and Jo Uber, the Dade City Chamber of Commerce's dynamic duo. Guide to the 27th Annual Kumquat Festival Today, NatureCoaster provides a behind-the-scenes guide to the 27th Annual Kumquat Festival. Learn all about kumquats and taste one at the 27th Annual Kumquat Festival. Everyone who visits may taste one of the little orange fruits that are both sweet and tart! (Unless they run out, which has never happened before...) Image courtesy of Richard K. Riley. What is a Kumquat? The little golden citrus fruit is native to China and was given as a traditional gift on New Year’s Day. Translating to “golden coins,” the kumquat represents prosperity, according to information from TV horticulturist Roger Swain. The inside is sweet, and the skin is sour. These tasty little citrus gems are eaten whole, so when you bite in a unique sensation greets your taste buds. They are great to cook with, too. There is great vendor shopping at the 27th Annual Kumquat Festival in Dade City, with 350+ vendors signed up for the family-friendly alternative to Gasparilla. Image courtesy of Richard K. Riley. Why a Kumquat Festival? The Greater Dade City Chamber of Commerce began holding a festival over 20 years ago in conjunction with Kumquat Growers, Inc. to celebrate the little fruit and all it has contributed so much to this area. On January 27, 2024, this wholesome, fun, and delicious event features over 350 vendors and sponsors coming together throughout the streets of a historic, charming Southern town to celebrate the community as well as the agricultural heritage of the little citrus fruit that is both sweet and sour. The Festival Car Show The Festival Car Show is hosted by Ronnie Setser's Car & Truck Shows and features an amazing variety of classic cars and trucks in the large parking lot of the downtown Judicial Courthouse. Organized by Ronnie Setser, there are trophies, dash plaques, and a well-organized show that attracts some of the nicest vehicles to be seen in the Southeast U.S. Show runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pops 54 by Mike Groseclose at the Kumquat Festival Car Show. AdventHealth Dade City is the headlining sponsor for 2024, leading dozens of business and government partners who come together to make the day memorable, including NatureCoaster.com. Stop in one of the Friendly Local Shops and Restaurants Local storefronts are decorated for the festival in kumquat themes, and it can be nice to duck into a shop or restaurant (if you plan to visit one of the restaurants on the day of the Festival, you will likely have to wait for a table and may want to call in advance to see if they take reservations for that day) and rest during the festivities. Downtown Dade City merchants decorate their show windows in kumquat themes. There are some great shops to visit. Image by Richard Riley. Dade City is a great town to visit any day and the unique shops and restaurants that make up this vibrant downtown are another wonderful way to spend part of your day. Antiques, toys, books, jewelry, and pet supplies are some of the types of shops you will find. Restaurants vary from the classic Florida Cracker Lunch on Limoges to an authentic tea house, sandwich shops, coffee shops, Mexican, Italian, craft beer, and fine dining. Although Dade City is a pet-friendly city, please allow your pets to stay at home during the festival. Come out for Kumquat pie, one of the crowd favorites. It's available at the Festival and it is light, creamy and delicious! Image courtesy of Richard K. Riley. Hundreds of Vendors provide Unique & Kumquat-y Items The “Kumquat Growers” are located in the Wells Fargo parking lot along Meridian Avenue, where you can learn about and purchase kumquats. Unique arts and crafts are fun to discover in many of the vendor booths lining the streets of this quaint city in eastern Pasco County. Many of these artisans return year after year to sell their wares. How about kumquat ice cream? Image by Richard Riley. Delicious foods, as well as many ethnic offerings, are available to festivalgoers. There is a myriad of opportunities to sample the tasty little fruit, whether it be as marmalade, cookies, salsa, ice cream, refrigerator pie, or a sip of kumquat beer or wine. The Kumquat Quilt Show Kumquat Kids Corral The Kumquat Kids Corral provides entertainment for the youngest visitors. Come to Dade City a Day early to Enjoy the Kumquat Growers Open House Kumquat Growers claims to be the largest producers of kumquats and kumquat products and no one around here questions that! This year they will hold their traditional Open House at the packing house, located at 31647 Gude Rd in St. Joseph from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM on Thursday, January 26 and Friday, January 26 (the two days before the Festival). Frank Gude, the patriarch of the Kumquat Growers, is seen here teaching all about kumquats. Image by Richard Riley The Gude and Neuhoffer families are the founders of the Kumquat Growers. They are the descendants of farmers who in 1883 settled in the community now known as St. Joseph, Florida. At the Kumquat Grower's Open House, there is a talk about the history and origin of the little citrus fruit that packs a punch and how it is used, followed by a packing house tour and a tour of the grove where you can see kumquat fruit in its native habitat. There is a nice Hampton Inn just south of downtown Dade City, and several hotels in Wesley Chapel along the I-75 and SR 56-SR54 corridor. Camping and RV hookups can be had at the Travelers Rest Resort. Now you can stay in a former jail in downtown Dade City, called The Locke Inn. Of course, a stay at one of Brooksville's B & Bs with a short drive to the festival is another alternative. Things to Know about the 2024 27th Annual Kumquat Festival A decorated "kumquat tree".
