Idea for the Giants/Gigantes (Grk Myth FanFic? AU? IDK)
I've had this idea for a while now; what if the Giants that attacked Mt. Olympus almost suceeded but they were defeated they're bodies were destroyed/imprisoned and they chose champions to fight back against the gods.
Here, the Giants themselves are NOT the direct children of Gaea and Tartarus or Ouranos, it's more like how Gaea sees all beings as her children/grandchildren (also some of these primordials may have aided).
Giants, as a group, have been around since the Golden Age and come in a variety of types (like nymphs), they also posessed great power. Not quite on the level of the gods, but with the magic given to the Giants leading the charge on Olympus, the Dodekatheon feared them. Rather than just mindless beasts created from rock and earth, these "Gigantes" as they were dubbed, wielded powers that could knock the gods off their thrones, which they almost did. But like so many revolutions that would come later, this fight for freedom was silenced by the gods.
Each of the Olympians fought one the Gigantes until they either, killed them, or imprisoned their bodies beneath earth, mountains or even under the ocean.
Yet despite the gods' propaganda, the fight never ended.
Over the decades the giants would influence mortals with particular hatred for the gods and bestow upon them powers to fight back against Olympus, the first few centuries they just gave some mortals a one-up or two so they can fight back against the gods, but as the centuries turned to millenia, the Giants realized these little nudges weren't really stopping Olympus, so the Giants gifted their champions slivers of their magic, bestowing these "Champions" great power. Throughout history, these champions have been fighting back against the gods, constantly trying to push back the rule of Olympus, but the power of the gods is great and the fates of these champions often end in tradgedy and death. But they aren't alone.
As the centuries marched on the gods turned their gaze away from the other mortal races and focused solely on humanity, leaving races like centaurs, satyrs, etc. neglected or worse. Many groups turned to the Giants and began to help them in a secret rebellion against Olympus. Now, champions are seen as great heroes to everyone but the gods, their followers, and their spoiled children.
(Disclaimer: this is a personal project and not a "theory" for PJO, Epic the Musical, Hades the game, or greek myth in general, but if anyone wants to do their own take on this, add this idea to any of the mentioned universes, give feedback/critiscms, or add anything, go ahead! :3 )

sooooo what's this new fic idea you have in mind? 👀
*Twirls hair*
Soooo are you familiar with the myth of Eros and Psyche?
I was playing around with this idea a while ago, but only recently it clicked when I thought...... what if I combined it with Norse mythology instead of Greek
Basically Hiccup is brought by Jack to his house (for.... ReasonsTM) away from Midgard, for his own safety
The most interesting factor to me is that Hiccup can't ever look at Jack, cue fun scenes where Hiccup has banters with an invisible entity
...until it's night time and ooops to get back to a physical form and sleep Jack has to become visible again, and the problem is that for plot reasons Hiccup can't know who he is
So they form a weird dynamic: Hiccup trusts that Jack is protecting him and not lying, Jack trusts Hiccup to not open his eyes when he's visible
And...... you know where this is going if you know the myth hehehe
#asks#yanleafy#hijack#hiccup#my art#out of sight#unfortunately everyone who's interested in norse mythology knows how diffficult it is to do research#so I've been struggling with that#not that I want this to be 100% accurate but having some basic knowledge helps#I'm more used to the giant amount of info we have about greek mythology tbh#you don't grow up with Mithos for Children books and percy jackson and wikipedia rabbit holes and not have a good grasp on the main concepts#thank you for the ask btw i was dying to talk about this to someone <3

guys against thebes can be found in sizes large, medium and small
i.e. hippomedon and polynices play a game of polis while tydeus takes a nap (he's not allowed to play board games anymore after what happened last time)
#hippomedon is described as giant while tydeus is famously short. i assume polynices is average bc no one ever mentions his height#also everyone's used to polynices and tydeus being weird and intense and clingy with each other. just another day in camp#this was inspired by every lovely piece of ancient greek pottery depicting ajax and achilles playing games#the thebaid#theban cycle#epic cycle#seven against thebes#tydeus#hippomedon#polynices#polyneices#polyneikes#tagamemnon#my art#slettart#greek mythology

Details About The Monster Odysseus AU
I might be the only one yelling at the void, but I want to brainstorm about the EPIC musical AU I thought of in more detail:
In terms of how it starts, at first, I thought of the obvious answer being Poseidon curses Odysseus in rage to become a "monster" but then my brain thought of: What if it were Zeus? Not only it would fit the bill of things a Greek god could do (which I think any of them could since Athena turned a human into the first spider), but it would come full circle from "The Horse and The Infant"/"Just A Man". Could you imagine Zeus seeing this mortal having this moral dilemma of "when does a man become a monster" and he's like: "Guys, guys, I have this perfect idea for a joke" only for the odyssey to happen with the monsters and gods influencing Ody's monster form? But I'll put a poll:
Now to the monster features. I went through the people and monsters that Odysseus has faced significantly. I did not include the sirens and such because they were obstacles and such. However, I ended up adding one more person since it would be symbolic to have 9 people = 9 Sagas. So in order:
Polyphemus: Not much is taken from the Cyclops. You can argue that the Cyclops for a time is a chosen monster from the Circe Saga, but for this AU, Odysseus adopted his brutality and sometimes when he acts like Polyphemus, Odysseus closes one of his eyes.
Aeolus: Perhaps wind/storm powers. Mostly he could attract/summon Winions. Symbolically, he struggles with trust now.
Poseidon: Ruthlessness, obviously, and Odysseus ends up becoming a sea creature themed hybrid with scales and such.
Circe: Odysseus can act like a siren/seduce. He also has slight puppeteering powers.
Hermes: Whether he likes it or not, Odysseus adopted Hermes's laughter/vibe. Also big motivator
Tiresias: It does not happen often but Odysseus gets visions or foresight. Maybe attuned with the Dead.
Scylla: Sizeshifting and all things monster! Tentacles, hydra heads, sharp teeth, the works.
Zeus: Odysseus has scars after being struck by Zeus's lightning. Plus he plays around with ethics.
Calypso: At first, I wanted to skip Calypso entirely. I didn't know what to do with her and whether or not Odysseus could take away something. I guess for now, just the sense of being trapped for a long time and he learned persistence.
So you might think, hey wouldn't this make the King of Ithaca OP more than he normally is in the musical? Yes but also to counter it, I want the powers/features to be tied to his emotions/trauma.
And that's what I have so far!
