Moonlight Shining Through the Blinds

Your honor they are adorable, and I love them <3

As the title implies, its supposed to be moonlight shining through the blinds (on a cute gt couple xD) the lighting was new for me, so apologies if parts of it look weird.

This is one of my only times where i really urge you to zoom in on this drawing >>

All of your observations are totally spot-on! (And I would be right there with you, getting arrested at the pet store!!)

But the thing that really made me want to post this idea is thinking about it from the Borrower's perspective. That's why my original post emphasized the suddenness of the discovery.

That vibe of fear and desperation, almost like a zombie apocalypse or alien invasion. To humans, the world looks pristine and normal. But the Borrower's world is ruined homes, destroyed walls, and toxic pesticides. Some are desperate (or depraved) enough to become raiders in the sewers and alleyways. They stay well out of the humans' way, and ambush Borrowers who pass by.

Sometimes Borrowers shelter with a sympathetic Human, but few are willing to risk that. And Human sympathizers have to walk a fine line, themselves. Sheltering too many Borrowers can be a big problem! Their needs are small, but they do add up. But can you really look them in the eyes and say "Find somewhere else" ? And once you have 100+ Borrowers running around your house. One might just run underfoot and...

Survivor camps are formed in places that 'haven't been found yet' but definitely aren't safe. Like, they're huddled in an abandoned storage unit going:

"Did the Thimbletons make it out!?"

"Yes, but they lost their supplies. We're scrounging up what we can, but we just don't have enough food."

"You hear about little Patch McCupboard? His whole family sacrificed themselves so he could escape!"

"They left their youngest child alone in this world!? That feels even more cruel..."

Eventually they just stop asking about other families.

Where did they go? Somewhere.

Are they safe? Probably not.

Even if they are safe, who knows if that will last.

Worry. about. yourselves.

Not only would the guilt be immense, but the backlash would be too. A mob of angry Borrowers forms, blaming the Human for not being careful or possibly claiming it was an intentional murder. At which point, you now have dozens of angry strangers who know where you sleep and can easily get there. And god, if Borrowers are valuable to the right buyer? A Human host may wake a up with a trafficker in their home and a knife in their throat. It doesn't take long for both species to realize that 'sheltering' is a huge risk for both parties.

All in all, the Borrowers would be permanently living in apocalypse conditions until they are given true equality and safe housing. And that day is never guaranteed to come.

Trust no one, Don't get attached.

Clean water is gold, and food is silver.

Survive.

G/t Concept: Borrower Apocalypse

Borrowers are revealed to the entire world. Everyone, everywhere suddenly knows about them.

There are a lot more than the Humans expected.

A cheap, reliable "Borrower Detector" hits the market almost overnight.

In less than a month about 80% of domestic Borrowers have been found by homeowners, completely at their mercy.

Now, a decade later, The species has been scattered to the winds...

Borrowers got their rights far too late. And they're nothing but empty words on a piece of paper.

Kidnapping a Borrower is laughably easy. Anyone can do it. And the police response is mostly dependent on whether or not they gave a shit. The laws are basically unenforced.

So, half the species has fucked off into the wilderness, and the other half takes their chances with Humans. As 'equals', as pets, or as one of the lucky few who were able to stay hidden.

The Humans live another day in a changed world.

But Borrowers? Their 'world' ended a long time ago…

Basically: What if Humans suddenly gained an ability / technology that makes it impossible for Borrowers to hide? And what if they all get found at the same time with no real warning?

(Also trying a new format here. Less fluff / theatrics. I'm hoping a simple bullet-pointed list will make the concept more adaptable and open-ended. Please let me know your thoughts)

Iven (He/him) - giant - 30 meters tall (98'5ft)

Personality: A sweet, gentle giant who loves humans. He's a bit shy, but pretty curious and cheerful when he's with his family and friends.

Fun fact: He got a magical necklace from a witch friend. It can make him shrink to human size.

As a overthinker and perfectionist person I already dislike my last drawing of him, (thank god I removed the reblog option lol) so I'm starting a new one :)

(I think I'll fix this post and edit it later when I finish the drawing, just wanted to have an official blog about him)
