Donations for Doodles - Hank's Kitty Funds + Refilling Mum's Emergency Funds
I explained in This Post in more depth about how I need $1,300 dollars and so I'm opening up my Ko-fi for donations.
$300 for my cat Hank who's on a new special diet so I don't have to worry about how I'm going to pay for his food once I start back up college in the spring.
$1,000 for my disabled mum to replenish her emergency funds after she had to pay for surprise repairs for her car during what we expected to be routine inspection.
$1 donations = random doodle featuring a character from Thatgamecompany, Giant Squid, Sonic the Hedgehog, Hollow Knight, or my cats Olive and Hank. you can request which of these you wish for me to pull from
$5 donations = doodle + pose of your choosing! Can be your OC, character from a different franchise, or one of your own pets.
When you donate please screenshot your donation and PM me it + send any references that may be needed

The Pathless by Giant Squid
Tumblr media
The Pathless is an action adventure game by the same creators as Abzû and Journey.
I quite enjoyed playing it. I would rate it a solid 7/10 - not excellent, not especially memorable, kind of dull after a while, but mostly good and fun to play and globally i had a good time with it. I would recommend it, but only if the person asking had already played a couple other games I'd rather recommend (mainly Sable and Hob).
The game was really quite pretty and had very successful stylization. The soundtrack supported this quite well, especially the tunes with throat singing which really added to the setting's vibe. I felt like the game was mostly successful in what it was trying to achieve: the controls were smooth, and the bow-and-arrow puzzles felt consistently fresh and got quite clever.
This comes with two main areas where I feel like the game did not come quite into its own: movement, and combat.
The game's movement system consist of you shooting targets (talismans) to get speed boosts. You can also fly. The fact that you can also fly is both one of the cool factors, and a serious detriment to the game's game design, because most of the levels and puzzles are designed so that they feel much cooler if you walk, jump, and arrow boost yourself, but it's just. simpler and faster to fly. You are limited in your ability to fly up, but there is a true wealth of high points to launch yourself from. A lot of the game's eventual dullness came down to the fact that you have to actively make an effort to not simply glide from place to place, because there's really any reason not to, except that doing so gets quite boring.
The other thing is combat. The game is mostly combat free, with encounters with corrupted deities being played out in a kind of "Red Light Green Light" kind of way, which is kind of cool. This is to exception of the boss fights, where after you do some puzzles you have to face up with the corrupted deity of the area in a boss fight which has a lot of timed events which occur basically nowhere else. The boss fights all had chase phase which felt concordant with the rest of the game, and some had a middle phase with area hazards which was very reminiscient of Journey and quite fun, but the "stadium" phase honestly felt dull, incongruous with the rest of the gameplay, and like the timed event mechanics just didn't show up enough in the rest of the game to feel justified there. One one hand I kind of wish the boss fight hadn't been there and the game had gone the "completely combat free" route. On the other hand I feel like it would've been even more repetitive and kind of dull without. It's a tough one.

The Pathless question!
does anyone know what the total number of wing flaps you can get is? I have 17 so it feels like it should be 20, but I also don't think there are enough puzzles left in the game and I've never lost any flaps afaik 🤔

Just played Abzu (soundtrack by Austin Wintory, made by Giant Squid)
I think I've just had more of a religious experience in the past two hours than in all 18 years of going to church combined.

You know how the journey player character's race got the unofficial name of rythulian? Did sky: cotl, abzu, and/or pathless ever get something like that? I'm trying to do some deeper diving to try and nail some proper names but haven't really found anything solid yet
Pathless is especially driving me up the wall (shakes hand at vague 'conlang' that Does Not Help Me.)

sorry to keep talking about squid game but gihun getting through the first game because of sangwoo and ali, the second game by his own merit (because he is a sweaty sweaty man), the third game by forcing his team to listen to each other, the fourth game because ilnam didnt want to let him die, the fifth game because he lucked into someone else taking a metaphorical bullet for him (and saebyeok reminded him which side to step) and the sixth game because he was fighting, but he only won because sangwoo made him win .... the show does an incredible job of showing us that this isnt the usual way that someone wins, that deoksu or however u spell his name got far successfully by bullying his way through, and then in season two showing that when they work together, barely anyone dies, and those who think like deoksu (thanos) still succeed. its just so interesting to me cause like 1. id be obsessed with the guy who got through my murder games by being so wet and pathetic that everyone he meets wants him to succeed anyway and 2. other winners would have gone through the same thing to a lesser extent, even inho knows what hes feeling but believes its worth it for the greater good, and 3. everyone is equal in these games, but he has preferential treatment from the literal host who just happens to be in the games, would someone like inho think that he succeeded by exploiting every path available to him, including manipulating other people, or think that he was "unfair" in the way he won?
