There are three species commonly known as giant African land snails -- Lissachatina fulica, Achatina achatina, and Archachatina marginata. Although some popular photos of them online make them appear even larger than life, their title of "giant" is well-earned. All three regularly reach 7-8 inches in length, and larger specimens have been documented.
I know this is a bit out of your wheelhouse, but what are your thoughts on African Giant Land Snails?
Honestly, I just kinda love how Huge they can get.
wild Lissachatina fulica are actually pretty underwhelming, although they’re still the biggest land snails I’ve ever seen. Archachatina or very old captive fulica are massive by comparison, I’d love to meet one of those.
Considering something like 5 giant African land snails escaped captivity and are now completely destroying the ecosystem in my area by their rapid growth in numbers, sea emperors coming back from extinction isn't too unrealistic
oh huh didnt know that! went ahead and did a little bit of research and yeah, theyre really up there in the rankings of invasive species. im assuming youre talking about Lissachatina fulica since thats the one that shows up when i look this up
theres also a detail i want to mention and its that they have 5-6 clutches a year, and average 200 eggs per clutch. with a small group of 5, you can easily have a population boom if most of them had clutches with each other
He fell from the branch last night and decided to not care and use the opportunity to snack on some cucumber from his spa day
Also, Diablo's spa day. He had some dirt trapped in the growth edge of his shell, and I want him to have a beautiful healthy shell so a toothbrush meant for babies is soft enough to not accidentally damage the growth edge
Here you can see what happens when the growth edge is messed with. (There was some dirt trapped underneath it)
