January Giallo Day 26 Smile Before Death Decided to go into another unseen gem before the month ends. This film is from my @arrowvideo Giallo Essentials black set. This one seemed interesting since it was taking all the murder mystery stuff and adding more complexity to it. The violence was light, but they made it count more towards the story. Tons of nudity and some hilariously bad acting from one particular actor, but nothing so bad it ruins the movie. The story had a bunch of twists and turns. Especially near the end. What you think is true ends up being the furthest from it. It was a nice touch. Even the last minute kept you on your toes. January Giallo Day 19 The Possessed (AKA The Woman of the Lake) Dipped back into my @arrowvideo Red Giallo Essentials set today and a little early since I got errands to run before work tomorrow. I really liked this movie. Classic films of the '60's hit differently, for sure. The presentation and feel of the film is really well done. Since it's in Black and White and there's no nudity or gore, it's solely dependent on the acting and the story. Which both are top notch. This isn't a straight giallo either, it's a proto giallo. And you can see where the influence from this movie carries over. The reveal was nice too. Spoils of War, Arrow Video's Giallo Essentials Vol 3 Edition: A couple months ago @arrowvideo announced this set along with a 4K of Tenebre (which the Arrow exclusive Arte Originale is on the way as I write this). There was zero question if I was going to add this to my collection. It will look glorious next to the red and yellow sets and on my @arrowvideo shelf. If anyone has seen any of these, let me know which movie is a good one to start on. Really digging the art on The Killer Reserved Nine Seats. Spoils of War, Arrow Video Giallo Essentials Edition: So giallo films have quickly become a massively favorite sub genre of horror for me, 2nd to slashers at this point. So when @arrowvideo announced these "hidden gems" or lesser celebrated gialli films in sets I had to have them. Obviously, both sets came out separately and at different times, but since I waited to post them til now, might as well post them together. Both sets here have three movies each. All three are from different directors and go as far back as 1960's proto giallo to full blown genre fare. I love the artwork on both sets so much. How they incorporate all the films in their sets. Also, Arrow killing it with adding the original Italian covers on the opposite side. I'm really hoping they keep this going with more sets. Maybe adding some deep cut Argento films into the mix. With the holidays, I haven't had time to really dive into these just yet.
