Running around Inazuma, placing bowls of water out for the stray animals with Thoma, petting each doggie you see

Sitting in front of fan with Itto, opening your mouth to make funny noises, and laughing til your sides hurt

Standing at the bow of a ship and feeling the sea spray hit your face, while standing with Kazuha, instantly cooling both of you down

Pulling Heizou's hair out of his face and into a ponytail, before switching places with him, letting him run his fingers through your hair and away from your face

Eating popsicles with Gorou, sitting in the shade of a big tree and trading bites of the cool treat, basking in each other's presence

well well a decent amount of people happened to like this post (i see you in my inbox <333) so have a part two!!

something’s wrong. Childe can sense it- no, he knows it. he knows it from the barely-reachable gap in his memories, the way he looks beside him as if someone should be there, the lingering feeling that something is missing.

but what? he can’t recall anything he lost, other than his childhood, and when it seems like he might finally remember what or who is gone, the memory slips from his fingers like sand. it’s peculiar, and if work didn’t take up all his time he’d spend it attempting to grab that memory and pull it out, kicking and screaming.

even more peculiar is the behavior of his Abyssal transformation, Foul Legacy.

normally only used to battle and brutal fighting, Foul Legacy had been acting strangely whenever Childe called upon him- if the Harbinger didn’t know any better, he’d say that his Abyssal side was yearning for something, constantly trying to follow a trail Childe couldn’t see, and whenever Childe prevented him from taking this path Foul Legacy would cry out in despair.

the Harbinger felt bad, but what in the world could Foul Legacy be trying to find?

Foul Legacy only grew more desperate when Childe traveled to the Chasm for his next mission, looking around wildly and attempting to go deeper into the mines whenever used and even hissing when Childe held back his Abyssal self and turned human again. his monstrous form was irritated, Childe could feel the anger silently burning in some corner of his mind, but he had to continue the mission- the Tsaritsa was depending on him! 

but not even Childe expected to encounter agents of the Abyss- a floating Lector wreathed in flame and a surprisingly human-looking person, staring at him with wide eyes and an open mouth. the Lector simply chuckles and flicks the catalyst device hovering in his hands, burning fires springing to life.

you watch Enjou’s flames surround the both of you with dread in your stomach- why is Childe here?! your companion merely shrugs and pats your back, a sign to continue your work, and you kneel on the ground to continue copying the ruins scrawled into the stone.

a low growl filters through the fire and something huge and horned leaps through and clawed Enjou in the face. the Lector shouts in surprise and summons a portal, stepping through after telling you to run but now you’re alone with this beast, surrounded by dying flames.

the monster is Childe. it must be, you realize, for who else has that hair and an Electro Delusion? and you back away with your heart jumping and squeezing in your chest. you’re going to die. you’re going to die here and because you’re not a Vision holder you’re going to sleep forever, your body forever lost in the Chasm, because who will find it when no one but the Abyss knows you?

at least you were helpful to Enjou, in the end.

Childe, now twice as tall and with a horned, crimson mask, turns to look at you, and to your surprise his one-eyed gaze immediately softens. he approaches you slowly, holding his clawed hands out and up to show that he means no harm, and you can feel your heartrate slow. the growl you heard before turns to a soft purr as Childe carefully lifts your tense body onto his lap, settling your head in the marvelously soft ruff of fur around his shoulders. he whispers your name, again and again, even though he shouldn’t know it, shouldn’t know you, threading his talons through your hair and tracing the new scars you’ve acquired. this alternate version of him makes your heart melt, and you feel strangely safe for someone who could’ve died five minutes ago.

Childe speaks, not in the cheerful and lighthearted tone you remember, but deeper, more growly yet still tinged with warmth and affection.

“finally... finally, i found you”
