i've been posting silly crack fanfiction on ao3 lately, and i decided to just upload this on my tumblr. it's inspired off of interstellartoaster's kalampokiphobia: fear of corn, and the mods harvey's irrational apple hatred and harvey hates apples.
fantastic works; mind you.
gender neutral reader, sfw; not really focused on romance, as it is just absurdity
tallying his profit, of which was a big fat zero, harvey sighed; pushing up his glasses. it's been a rather long week for him, considering no one wants to buy those energy tonic muscle whatever medication that he supplies. the only time that anyone has ever purchased such a redundant item from him, was whenever they misclick- accidentally bought it; and then just sold it again. the only way that he'll ever make a good buck out of his pharmaceutical care was if he just eradicated the valley's food supply... of which, did sound tempting, but harvey loves his pickles too much to give them up.
there haven't been any appointments placed recently, so he was having a hard time trying to keep up with the expenses. right now, he could so go for a bottle of fine wine... maybe it's because he's spending too much of his expenses on plane models, rather than actually trying to keep up with all of the financial records, like an actual adult should. huh, what a foreign concept. well, he's just going to go continue complaining about his money situation, until further notice.
with the door opening, he had to them correct his shrimp posture, as he then greeted you, the almost superhuman farmer, into the clinic. normally, you just like to go behind the counter and access rooms that are off-limits to regular patients, but there was something about your gumption that made you so lovable. even if you do tend to barge into private examinations, there was something that made you feel so rebellious; that harvey couldn't help but swoon over you! also, he's a pathetic beanpole of a man, so he'll probably get pummeled into the ground by your combat prowess if he ever rejects your blatant non-filtered view of what "personal space" meant.
you were about to get some items turned into the community center; as you were carrying a basket full of assorted goods (they ranged from something simple to five highly-graded melons, a still-flopping ghostfish, and poisonous mushrooms). oh well, with the poisonous mushrooms, those are harvey's choice of decoration during the autumn seasons; so, the doctor felt rather seen whenever he saw those clumped together. he grimaced at the fish, however. other than that, he was glad to see a good friend pop in now and then; he needed something to spice up his days, and he can always expect you at around 9am, or somehow always being in the places he's trying to go to... coincidence?
normally, you'd stop on buy and get him a coffee. either you've brewed it yourself, or stopped by gus', it was coffee. you wonder how many mugs harvey has, considering you also gift him a free cup alongside the sweet, sweet ground bean liquid. it really wasn't the healthiest thing to drink due to the sugar and caffeine levels, and you were pretty worried for the guy who has been through years and years of intensive schooling to know better about those dietary concerns. you assume he probably only has a cup twice a week, considering you have some type of intergalactic force keeping you from extending that quota.
you had some apples somewhere on your person, and it was probably the only thing he'd like; you'd figure. after all, they're just funky little guys. who doesn't like a good, crisp apple? even though they're supposed to be for the community center, you can always just get one later. you'd give harvey something else, but you decided that he deserved better than just countless upon countless liters of his favourite brew. you knew harvey appreciated a good foraged, natural good—especially with someone locally grown on your acres. fishing out an apple out of your pockets, you then present it to him.
"... i think i may be allergic to this."
as harvey looked like a sad shih tzu puppy, looking off to the side, your heart sank. he was allergic to apples? at first, you really wanted to make fun of him. he seemed like the type of person who'd be allergic to peanut butter, and be the kid that doesn't allow their classmates to bring in anything homemade due to those medical reasons. holding the red delicious apple in your hands, rotating it around in your palm, you decided to test that theory.
"may?" you inquiried, and with a look of horror, harvey began to shudder. yes, he's an anxious man at heart, but due to various interesting cases at the clinic, he's grown insensitive to many things. plus, he's in front of the one and only farmer(tm), and his crush. god, what an embarrassment he is. he didn't want to talk about his irrational hatred for apples; those disgusting overblown flower ovaries called "fruit" just sicken him to death, not to mention that the apples were the first to hate HIM—it wasn't his fault that his body rejects them!
"yes, yes! just- just get it away from me!"
"i don't believe you..."
and that's where you've learnt that the phrase "an apple a day keep the doctor away" was right.

It is an alternative for people with celiac disease, gluten intolerance, or other gluten sensitivities. Ground Breaker Brewing: Ground Breaker Brewing is a Portland-based brewery that specialises in gluten-free beers. They produce a variety of beers, including IPAs, stouts, and porters, all of which are made from chestnuts, lentils, and peas. Their beers are rich and flavorful, with a smooth and creamy texture.
Ghostfish Brewing: Ghostfish Brewing is a Seattle-based brewery that produces a variety of gluten-free beers, including IPAs, stouts, and pilsners. Their beers are made from gluten-free grains, such as millet, buckwheat, and sorghum, and they have a clean, refreshing taste.
Gritstone Brewing: Gritstone Brewing is a Missouri-based brewery that produces a variety of gluten-free beers, including ales, lagers, and IPAs. Their beers are made from gluten-free grains, such as sorghum and millet, and they have a crisp, refreshing taste.
In conclusion, there are now many options for gluten-free beers made from alternative ingredients such as sorghum, rice, millet, and more. These options have improved in taste and quality over the years, providing people with gluten sensitivities or celiac disease with a wider variety of choices. Lunar Harvest Pumpkin Ale from Ghostfish Brewing out of Seattle WA. This is a dedicated gluten free brewery, & this beer is my first from them; my first gluten free pumpkin beer; & smashingly good. Heavy on the cinnamon & clove in the finish, the pumpkin spices really come through. Definitely looking forward to trying this again & more beers from these guys.

Gluten free review: Ghostfish Brewing Watchstander Stout
Rating: ★★★★☆
Non-gf girlfriend quote: "it approximated a Stout!". Comfortably in the range of "normal beer quality". Perhaps not the best Stout ever made but definitely tasty.
No, I don't know why it's in a Christmas Story pint glass. I'm not even sure where those came from.

How Do You Make a Beer Gluten-Free?
About 2 million Americans live with celiac disease, and many more have gluten intolerance that prevents them from consuming wheat, barley, or rye. To the dismay of many, this excludes beer from their diets.
The bright side? Compared with a few years ago, craft beers catering to gluten-free and gluten-sensitive audiences are aplenty. From dedicated gluten-free operations like Holidaily Brewing and Ghostfish Brewing, to national brands like New Belgium and Stone incorporating gluten-reduced options in their lineups, this once-mysterious (and arguably sub-par) category has officially made it to the mainstream.
The category can be tricky to navigate, though. Below, we break down the differences between gluten-free beer options.
Gluten-Free Beer, Defined
Karen W. Hertz, founder of Holidaily Brewing in Golden, Colo., says there are three different types of “gluten-free-friendly” beers: gluten-reduced, gluten-free, and dedicated gluten-free.
Put simply, gluten-free beer is beer made with gluten-free ingredients. This includes sorghum, rice, buckwheat, millet, and other sugar sources that aren’t malted barley, wheat, or rye.
Gluten-free labeling is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A beer can be labeled gluten-free if it contains fewer than 20 ppm (parts per million) of gluten. This is determined by lab testing at the responsibility of the brewery.
Gluten-free brands made without any gluten-containing ingredients include Dogfish Head’s Tweason’ale, Lakefront Brewing’s New Grist, and New Planet Beer Blonde Ale. But, here’s where it gets tricky: If gluten-free beer is produced at a facility that also produces beers with gluten (Dogfish Head, Lakefront, and New Planet included), it can technically be at risk of cross-contamination.
If beers are gluten-free and produced at dedicated gluten-free facilities, they are called dedicated gluten-free, and do not pose a cross-contamination risk. In addition, these beers must be made with gluten-free grains “grown in a specific region where neither barley [nor] wheat grew,” Cody Reif, New Belgium R&D brewer, tells VinePair.
Gluten-Reduced Beer
The most common gluten-free-friendly (to borrow Hertz’s terminology) options are gluten-reduced beers. These are also labeled as “crafted to reduce gluten.”
Gluten-reduced beers are brewed just like regular beer, with malted barley, wheat, rye, or other gluten-containing ingredients, then exposed to an enzyme called Brewers Clarex during primary fermentation. This enzyme is a filtration agent that has little effect, if any, on beer’s flavor.
New Belgium’s Glütiny Pale Ale is gluten-reduced, as is its Mural Agua Fresca brand. Interestingly, the former is labeled as gluten-reduced while the latter is not; Reif believes this is because gluten-free and gluten-reduced beers can get “scapegoated,” and are often demoted to the dusty bottom shelf due to gluten-free beer’s less tasty past. “It’s like a gluten-reduced stigma,” he says.
Stone Brewing’s Delicious IPA is another well-known gluten-reduced beer that is not labeled as such. Other commercial examples of (openly) gluten-reduced beers include Anheuser-Busch’s Omission brands, Two Brothers Prairie Past Golden Ale, and any beer from Odd13 Brewing.
Reif believes even gluten-free beers can have a place in any beer lover’s repertoire. “You have to kind of look at [gluten-free beer] through a different lens than you would [regular] beer. It’s intrinsically different,” he says. As for gluten-reduced beers like Glütiny, “it’s just good beer,” he says.
Of course, when exploring gluten-free options, safety is most important. “When it comes to consuming gluten-free-friendly beer, those with sensitivities should be diligent about educating themselves,” Hertz says.
5 Gluten-Free/Gluten-Reduced Beers to Try
Glutenberg IPA
This Quebec-brewed, 100 percent gluten-free IPA is made with millet, buckwheat, corn, black rice, and corn maltodextrin.
Lakefront Brewery New Grist Gose With Lime
This certified gluten-free beer is made with rice, sorghum, lime juice, lime peel, and salt.
New Belgium Glütiny Pale Ale
A year-round gluten-reduced release from New Belgium, Glütiny is fermented from grains containing gluten, and crafted to remove gluten. Ekuanot hops give it a fruity, citric finish.
Omission Ultimate Light Golden Ale
This low-cal, low-carb, gluten-reduced golden ale is crafted to remove gluten and brightened up with citrusy Millennium, Citra, and Galaxy hops.
Sufferfest Flyby Pilsner
This award-winning pilsner contains less than 5 ppm gluten.
