I went out after watching Ghostblade's 2nd PV release, so I couldn't post in the morning lol. Ghostblade's PV is really interesting. My image of his backstory is so different compared to this. I thought that "oh, he's definitely gonna be mentally ill in some way like the loss of his wife or maybe even daughter.." Eh, but like.. That may be the part of that but not the main. I thought his lack of emotions was the result of the experimentations he suffered, but looking back to the 2nd PV, it looked like he was naturally like that. Being surrounded by multiple people that are sharing their joy, drinking, giving out food to each other while Ghostblade just sits there unfazed.

I figured that his parent or guardian thought there was an abnormality in him because how he wasn't like the "normal kids." They find it sick. Having a child that's incapable of expressing the emotions that a normal person has is sickening to them. So their solution was to take him to a doctor and perform what ever they do to "fix" him?? Dawg. He probably didn't think that lacking the most essential part of what makes human, "human", was a problem. He didn't know what was wrong with him-- what makes him different from other people. He never realized his symptoms were THAT bad. What he thinks of laughing, crying, smiling, or any other ways of expression always lead him into finding it "laughable." He literally can't find a purpose for those emotions. Anyways, speaking of that, here comes a person that changed him, his wife! His wife alone was able to affect Ghostblade to the point where it made him found what he was missing, and now he's unable to let go of it. Within just a day too, How romantic! /j... Too bad she died and his...eh.. possible daughter (Nuonuo) thinks of him as a stranger. Yes, just because she has grey hair and also had a scene together with Ghostblade..

His train of thought is so odd. It's no wonder why people didn't understand him clearly. Just him comparing the differences of animals' and peoples' cries and him being able to feel what they are is already weird enough. Go king! And comparing the peoples' tears to the oceans. Hello.. "Human tears are like waves of the ocean, carrying too many things that they want to leave on the beach." AND HIS IS EMPTY? GET OUT. This mf isn't letting anything go. Like, I have a feeling that there's gonna be a villain that uses this weakness as an advantage.. But Ghostblade will still find a way to win lol. I'm glad that we saw him crying at the 2nd PV though. It really shows us how much he changed. No matter who the person is, they will still be affected by the loss of a loved one. With a child is double the damage too, ouch! I feel like I'm gonna cry on his story. Just imagine being completely numb for your entire life then finding someone that changed you from that only for them to die, and then you can't respond properly to their death. Boo. How scary!

It looks like he's still getting check on everyday. Other than his disorder or whatever it's called, they could also be checking his abilities if it affected him?.. His powers looks like it makes him go in a crazed state. Make sure he isn't cuckoo always..

Hero Smile mentioned, is he also unable to make Ghostblade smile? It'll be funny to ridicule a hero that makes everyone smile not be able to make 1 person smile at all.. "Get a load of this guy." Ghostblade says while pointing at him in silence. (My thoughts on his character) Ehh.. to be honest I didn't really expect for him to be emotionless. (I've always thought of it but I lowk just discarded it..) I always thought of him as the "cold and silent killer" that they always use to describe him. Just giggling and pointing at him and saying "Oh yeah, that guy is just waaaaaay too nonchalant. haha!" Then I got STABBED today. Hello?? But he's cool. Definitely not letting something slide if it involves him, his daughter, his wife, and maybe something that's also responsible of changing him other than his wife! Quiet and all that, he wouldn't bat an eye to your direction. He isn't numb as before, he's able to show what he feels but can't express it very well. er. i hope. AURGH. Maybe....maybe..... also affected by the blood stained on his hands. It may be for good but sometimes, he just can't help but stare at it in a way.. Concerned looking ass 😭😭

I don't know what else to say about him since this is just a dilly dally whatever the fuck his 2nd PV contained and looking at the most interesting stuff of his character YADAYADA. I know that backstory is gonna be TRAGIC. I can't wait to see the angst edits out of this guy.

This post is totally bait (well, kind of). It's all rambles about him, not a lot of substance to be found here.

I dunno, I can see it happening. I saw a comment about how there's a high chance the popular characters will die (sure got a lot of that in Link Click), and yeah. I see it.

He has a lot of death flags, okay? I've talked about this on Twitter before, his ranking is No. 4. Off to a terrible start! (四 (4) phonetically sounds like 死 which means death - a very unlucky number.)

Moreover, his birthday (08/28) is very... not auspicious at all? This would be around the time of 中元节 or the Ghost Festival. It's like Day of the Dead or Obon, a day to pay respects to lost loved ones. From his PV we can probably assume his wife died or something, his motivation for killing is likely related to her death, whatever. Bro's going through it.

And his name. Most characters have the same name in JP/EN, with some exceptions.

From the JP Twitter account, this lists the VAs and the characters they play; Dragon Boy, Ghostblade, and E-Soul are the only characters (thus far) with kanji names. The kanji means the same thing as the hanzi Chinese characters, which more or less translates to what their English titles are. I'm going to focus a bit more on Ghostblade though, since I think that's a pretty interesting take on what the characters actually mean.

默杀 is the Chinese name for Ghostblade (again, same meaning as the Japanese 黙殺). Translated literally this means silent killer, but the character 杀 has a... hm. I guess a more violent connotation? Or at least a rather strong one, it's the kind of word you'd use to describe murder.

So the ghost part makes sense - silent as a ghost, probably a reference to the Ghost Festival. Blade also makes sense, he kills people.

But he's got Buddhist symbolism all over him??? Ghosts don't linger, we all enter the cycle of reincarnation until we're free from the karmic debts of our past lives, and one of the cornerstones of Buddhism is to abstain from inflicting unnecessary suffering. To live is suffering enough, man. I guess he can justify it to himself if he's only after the bad guys...

The website quote for him says 开不了口 (lit. can't open his mouth anymore). Terrible for him. Someone wanted him fo stay quiet that bad?

No clue where I'm going with this. My expectation is that he's not going to have a great ending though - death would be kind if only to reunite him with the person he lost. He's a solitary individual, so even if he successfully kills off all his targets, he doesn't seem to have a lot going for him past that. I'm guessing there's something brewing with his hero agency, but it's hard to say with the very limited info. we have as it is.

Nice and Mo Sha: Light and Shadow

I am intrigued by their shared theme of “smiles.” Nice always puts on the best smile for the crowd, and the people wait behind him with love. On the other hand, Mo Sha cannot smile at all, and he walks into the sea alone, with no one to look back at at the shore.

T/N: The subtitles in Nice’s PV uses the word “smile,” while Mo Sha’s uses “laugh.” But in Chinese, the same character is used for both words: 笑 (xiào). Xiào can mean either smile/laugh.

Wow. Ghostblade’s 2nd PV did not skimp on the lore.

The final sequence was really telling of the kind of story he’ll have.

Until the moment his wife was likely killed and his maaaybe daughter (girl that walked past him in PV 3) became estranged from him, he probably still couldn’t understand the purpose of human tears or smiles. A lack of emotions posed him no trouble. They said he was sick, but he didn’t even know why his symptoms were a problem. And then he encounters loss.

Was he ever able to cry at that very moment? As he stares at the blood on his hands, was he able to wash them away with tears? Likely not. He “couldn’t leave a thing” on the beach, so no tears were shed. Well, at least we see him cry in PV 2, so I get the feeling I’m gonna cry a lot with him haha… ;u;

His comparison of human tears to things left behind on the beach is the crux of the issue. The purpose of tears is to display your emotions, to leave a physical mark that you were moved. To cry is to show proof that you are human— fallible to tragedy, vulnerable to pain and suffering. But his beach is empty. How can his life’s story be retold without the substance that emotions provide?

I thought his story was just going to be about his loss and what his ethos as a hero is afterwards (revenge? justice? repentance?), but his inability to express his emotions makes the whole thing so much more interesting! Now I’m fully invested in his story!!
