The Ghoul Squad - Meeting Marinette

(For most kids, the first day of your new school was nerve-wracking. Not for Marinette. She was positively dying to meet new people, to make some new friends, and to put a little scare into her new school. As she got ready for her first day, she cooed at her three spiders, Emma, Louis and Hugo. They were her wonderful children.)

Marinette: Momma will be back soon, my loves, don’t fret! Wish me luck, hopefully this year will go well!

(She hears them chittering sadly.)

Marinette: Oh, I suppose I can keep you hidden in my bag. But you better behave yourselves!

(She puts them in her bag and heads downstairs for breakfast. Her parents have prepared for her some charred toast and straight lemon juice.)

Xia Bing: I do hope you had bad dreams, darling.

Marinette: Absolutely horrible ones.

Tom: Are you excited for your first day of school? You’re practically trembling! I know you’ve been waiting to see Kim and Nino again!

Marinette: Now I don't just get to send chills down their spines during hangouts, I can do it every day at DuPont!

Xia Bing: Sounds lovely, darling! We do hope you have a fine time!

(As she walked to school, she decided to pull a little prank on her friends. She snuck up behind them, poked them on the neck, and disappeared as they turned around. Then she put two hands on their shoulders.)

Kim: AIEEEEE! (Seeing that it’s her) Jeez, Mari! Give me a heart attack, why don’t you?

(Mari giggles)

Marinette: Aw, only a heart attack?

Nino: Don't encourage her, Kim. (As classmates walk past them, Marinette gets mixed reactions. Some compliment her on her fashion, with two goth kids (Anthony and Eri) giving her thumbs up, others give her looks of disgust. Marinette looks unbothered.)

Kim: (To some kids giving her bad looks) Yo! You mess with my old pal Marinette, you're gonna regret it!

Nino: You know, dudette, I think you're gonna like this place. After all, I hear there's rumors of monsters watching over this place.

(Kim gulps. He HATES hearing about those rumors. He's scared of it.)

Kim: Dude! You KNOW that stuff freaks me out! Can we not talk about them?

(Marinette gets a wide grin. She's always into freaky things.)

Marinette: Oh, come on, Kim! Being scared is the best part! Tell me more, Nino! (Kim rolls his eyes, before gaining a wide grin as he spots his girlfriend!)

Kim: Whelp, you go on and tell her. I'm gonna hang out with someone who doesn't give me nightmares. (He runs off like a happy puppy to Ondine)

Nino: Well, let's just say this place has some spooks watching it. They're not evil though, since they coulda just taken it over already. We've never seen them, so technically it's "just a rumor" but dude, I'm telling ya it's true!

Marinette: (Smiles) How…fascinating! I do hope the stories are true. Imagine…real life monsters!

Mari: Go on.

Nino: Well, there's more than one. First off, I've seen scarabs crawling around the floors, piles of dust, and even had this really cute voice whispering in my ear when no-one else is around.

Nino: Then, Nathaniel says he's seen a purple bat hanging from the ceiling, with red glowing eyes. Then he found a room full of red mist, and swore he saw a pale girl with fangs complimenting him on his art.

(Mari smiles. Mummies and vampires? How marveously macarbe)

Marinette: (Grins) Classic signs of the presence of a vampire! What else?

Nino: Whelp, the next one has a name. It's a Phantom. Well, the new ghost. See, the Phantom of the Theatre's a DuPont legend, a ghost who protects the school, helps out the actors, and makes sure we're taking care of the auditorium. Seems that the old Phantom moved on or something, and his daughter's taken his place. Ivan's heard her voice, calling him a "Angel of Music" but she hasn't shown her face yet. She likes singing to kids in the mirror, or shooting fireballs at those who wish to harm the school. You'll tell she's near if you hear a pipe organ. I know how much you dig that stuff.

Marinette: How delightful! A protective spirit, this place just keeps sounding better! Are there any more?

Nino: A few more. Kim's been hearing the howls of a wolf a lot. He also sees yellow eyes staring at him in the dark.

(Marinette smiles. So she’s not the only one who enjoys spooking her old friend!)

Nino: Max hears mad laughter and finds tons of little gadgets around the school. He also sees these weird green patchy limbs crawling around, and sparks of electricity. Sabrina sees it sometimes, too, That is... whenever Chloe isn't breathing down her neck.

Marinette: (Glowers) Chloe Bourgeois? That brat who thinks she owns the world, just because of all her daddy’s money and influence?

Nino: Yep. But luckily, there's a monster that likes to deal with her. Based on what people say she looks like, it's a ghost, similar to those things from The Ring? She writes threatening messages to Chloe in the walls, crawls around, whispers in her ear, it's awesome.

Marinette: How wonderful! Sounds like my kind of specter!

Nino: Then there's Nath's boyfriend Marc. He and his class saw some witchy stuff. Anytime they're being bullied or the teacher does something stupid, they get hexed. They also smell potion ingredients and see three ladies flying away on broomsticks. There's a ton of cackling as well.

(This is Marinette's favorite. She's always wanted to be a witch!)

Marinette: Witches?! How marvelous! I’ve always wanted to learn the dark arts!

(Nino gives a "damn girl" smile)

Nino: Uh s-sure? Anyway, I get a feeling they're gonna like you. Hell, you'll probably scare them instead!

(She grins. As her and Nino walk to their first class, the Ghoul Squad have been eagerly watching their conversation from their hiding places with the help of their mothers' magic. Kagami is with them, since her mother allowed her to hang out.)

Alix: Dude, I love this chick! Way better than my human! I didn't think anyone hanging out with that meathead could be cool!

Rose Frankenteen: Can we talk to her? I want her to be our friend, she seems so nice!

Jubella: Of course, dear. Nathaniel is nice to vatch over and hang out vith, but he does not have zhe spooky spark zhat zhis one has!

Mylentasma: How should we make our approach! I feel like she’d like it if we spooked her!

Alynis: Call me crazy, but I'm not even sure if we could. She's clearly an expert.

Kagami: *Blushing* I believe we should wait until the time is right. I... I want it to be perfect, just for her.

(The other girls “Aww” in happiness.)

Winlix: If you love her, then you should do what My and Alya do! Be a coward and speak to them from the shadows!

(She giggles as Alynis and Mylentasma give her death glares)

Mylentasma: Very funny, Alix! I just want to make sure my Angel of music is ready before I present myself!

Alynis: And I need Nino to see the full power of the Pharaoh! (Jubella and Rose Frankenteen just recently started dating.)

Rose Frankenteen: I'm so happy me and Jules were able to share our feelings with each other.

(It was adorable. Both of them knew that the other definitely liked them, but they were both just so scared of saying it.)

Jubella: I’m just glad you felt the same vay! I adore you, my spark of life!

(Rose giggles as Jules gives her a loving bite on the neck, since she has no blood supply)

Jubella: Bleh bleh bleh! I vant to drain your vains!

Rose Frankensteen: Nooo! Save me from the cute vampire!

Winlix: Gross! Yuck!

Jubella: Call it payback for being a smartass, pup!

(Marinette's first day at school had been going splendidly in her eyes. She had discovered that those two alternative kids were named Eri and Anthony. They were a lot better than those needlessly edgy, gatekeepers at her old place. She may have loved gothic culture and fashion, but you didn't need to be a misery guts all the time.)

(She had also pulled off some great scares, some unintentional. It turned out that like Kim, more than a few kids were terrified of spiders, with some even fainting. Oh well, more fun for her.)

(It seemed as though Nino and Kim's buddies liked her well enough, saying she seemed nice even if she scared the hell out of them, which was what Marinette was going for. She felt it was nice having new friends, but made sure to keep them on their toes. Sabrina took a big liking to her as well, and she admitted it was nice to have a girl in the class who respected her.)

Chloe: Figures that a dummy like Le Chien and a loser like Lahiffe would hang around with a freak!

Marinette: I’m sorry, and you are?

(She knows who she is, she’s just being a little gremlin, trying to make Chloe mad)

Chloe: *Squawking* Chloe Bourgeois! Social influencer, daughter of the Mayor, and more popular and pretty than you'll ever be!

Marinette: Ah, yes. Do forgive me, your *majesty*!

(She bows in a mocking fashion)

Chloe: You should know better than to test me, Dupain-Cheng. I'm the alpha of this school, the queen bee! If you think you can steal Sabrina from me, you've got another thing coming!

Marinette: I haven’t stolen anyone. I’m merely showing Sabrina that she has the chance to make real friends who care about her.

Chloe: I gave you a warning, Dupain-Chang. Looks I'll just have to break you down.

(Chloe goes to grab the sketchbook, as she hears terrifying laughter. Six voices to be exact.)

(Ominous organ music plays as thunders cracks. Mylentasma appears before Chloe, with a face cloaked in terrifying shadows as her cape fluttered behind her.)

Mylentasma: I wouldn’t do that if I were you!

(Marinette gets the biggest grin on her face, as Mylentasma winks at her.)

(Chloe feels a bat whoosh behind her, turning into Jubella, who hisses at her, looming over the bully, with her cloak raised behind her head.)

Jubella: You have no power over zhese students, foolish girl.

(A roar is heard as Chloe turns to see Rose Frankenteen stomping towards her, arms out)

Rose Frankenteen: Graaaar! Mean girl back off, or ROSIE SMASH!

(Scarabs crawl around Chloe, as the creepy rotting mummy shambles to her, tilting her head.)

Alynis: Leave Marinette alone, mortal, or face a harrowing curse!

(The Ghoul Squad is so happy to finally find a human worthy of joining them!)

(Chloe jumps two feet in the air as Winlix lands behind her, snarling viciously)

Winlix: Stand down, or we’ll claw you to shreds!

(Mylentasma gives her a quick "too far, Alix" stare. Chloe feels her heart leave her chest as Kagami crawls behind her. She gives her a terrifying grin, showing her face.)

Kagami: Watch out, Chloe. You never know where we might be. We ghouls see eeeverrything.

(As she says that last part, she twists her head around)

Kagami: So play nice.

(Chloe shrieks and runs out of the room)

(Marinette blushes like crazy at the last girl. What a beautifully bonechilling ghost. The girls all rush in to hug her.)

Mylentasma: Are you okay? We’re sorry we couldn’t get here sooner! We wouldn’t want our new friend getting hurt!

Marinette: Okay? I'm positively trembling with joy! As you probably heard before, I'm Marinette Dupain-Cheng. My parents run the funeral home next to this school.

Alynis: Ooh, the Blissful Rest? We've heard of that place!

Marinette: Yes! I’ll be inheriting it when I get older.

Jubella: Vonderful, my dear.

Rose Frankenteen: We'll make sure to visit your parents. They're clearly right up our alley!

Marinette: They’d be delighted to meet you! They share the love for the morbid and frightening as myself!

(The monsters grin and begin introducing themselves.)

Jubella: I am Juleka. Mistress of zhe night. Do not vorry, for I only consume animal blood. It's simply fangtastic to be in your prescence.

Winlix: (panting happily) Sup, I’m Alix! Awesome to meet someone who likes creepy stuff as much of us! (Howls)

Rose Frankenteen: Name's Rose! And as you can tell, I'm no hulking brute. In fact, I'm an inventor of gadgets and gizmo's aplenty. Meeting you has brought a spark into our lives. (She cackles madly as Jubella kisses her.)

Mylentasma: (Bows dramatically) I am Mylene, the Phantom of the Theatre! Delighted to make your acquaintance!

(Marinette coos in delight as Alynis introduces herself)

Alynis: (raises her arms) And I am Alya, the mighty pharaoh! Bringer of doom and ruler of the sands!

Alynis: Lol, just kidding. I do rule the sands, but I'm no ruler. I do have a pretty cool blog though. (Finally, Kagami walks up to her new crush, being as romantic as possible. Marinette feels her heart beat like a drum.)

Marinette: H-hello. And you are? (Her cheeks are fire-engine red)

Kagami: Kagami. And may I say, you're the prettiest, most morbidly mesmerizing girl I've ever seen. I want to haunt you... *whispering in her ear* forever.... Marinette: Kagami... can you hug me? I want you to never let me go. (She does so, whispering spookily sweet nothings into her ear.)

Kagami: I understand this may be a bit forward….but would you like to go out sometime?

Marinette: Yes, my lovely ghost. Wanna head over to the cemetery with me after school? I'd just love to introduce you to my parents. (Kagami knows her mother will be mad at her, but screw her.)

Kagami: That sounds wonderful. (She snuggles Marinette happily)

Alynis: We heard that you love witchcraft! Our mothers are witches you know. Rose Frankenteen: But not our biological moms. None of us are related, so don't worry about me and Jules!

(Marinette giggles and jumps up and down.)

Marinette: Do you think they’d be willing to teach me?!

Kagami: Of course they would! In fact, we'll go there to induct you as the newest member of the Ghoul Squad. (Marinette gasps)

Marinette: But, I'm human! And I don't know any magic yet.

Mylentasma: That’s no matter! You’ve already got the *fright* stuff to be one of us!

Marinette: Well, if you say so, then it has to be true!

Mylentasma: And to show that I mean it.

(She dramatically takes off her mask, revealing her burned side of her face.)

Mylentasma: BEHOLD! Gaze upon my true visage!

Marinette: You look as beautifully bonechilling as ever.

(The Phantom smiles and hugs her.)

Mylentasma: I knew you would be so kind. To be truthful, I have no shame in this face, for I was born with it. It’s just… I feel that the mask gives me such a delightfully spooky and mysterious appearance.

Alynis: Same here. We’re born with bandages. We can take them off to show off our skin, but honestly it’s not as fun creeping people out when you’re just a naked corpse.

Winlix: Speaking of creepy, let’s head back home!

(It's a good thing that Chloe cornered Marinette in the bathroom, so no one can see them.)

(The go through an underground passageway connected to the school. They decide to take the slow way there, with Mylentasma happily rowing her gondola through the eerie river, as she and her sisters act as a tour guide, pointing out creepy things as they pass the river.)

Alynis: And over there is the hanging tree! We hung up the ornaments and skeletons ourselves!

Rose Frankenteen: Whenever Alix didn't try chewing on the bones!

Winlix: And over there is where I like to bury all my favorite toys!

Jubella: Ah, here's zhe space vhere Mylentasma and I go to brood.

(Mylentasma nods dramatically)

Mylentasma: One needs a proper space to contemplate the heaviness of life…

Jubella: It is only right for us horrifying creatures of zhe night to fill such a room with sorrow.

Alynis: They get really pissy if you interrupt them being emo.

(The vampire and phantom pout in annoyance.)

(Marinette texts her parents and sends a video, Since she knows vampires don't appear in photos.

Marinette: Mom, Dad, I've got frightfully good news for you. I've already made friends, best friends in fact. In fact, I even met my one true love! Here they are. *They all wave, and she points the camera to Kagami, who's snuggling her.* They can't wait to meet you after school!

Marinette: Oh, and don't worry about the sun, Juleka. We prefer the macarbe and peaceful atmosphere of darkness.

Tom: That’s wonderful, dear! We can’t wait to meet them.

Xia Bing: We’re so glad you had a frightfully good first day!)

(As she waves goodbye, Kagami squeezes her tight. Marinette responds by lightly tickling her nose. The boat stops and Mylentasma smiles sweetly.)

Mylentasma: We've arrived, my sisters!

(Marinette looks up and sees a creepy underground castle, and happily follows her spooky soulmate and her bonechilling besties. There's rooms for each girl, and then some. They first visit Jubella's gothic room, complete with books, a eerie purple coffin, and bats flying around. Jubella takes the time to happily and spookily coo at the bats.)

Jubella: Ah, such vonderful creatures of zhe night. Come, meet our newest member, my babies!

(They happily chirp and swirl around Marinette, who loves bats as well.)

Marinette: Hello, my little lovelies! How darling you all are!

(She gets an idea, and pulls out her wonderful spiders she brought to school, and shows them to the girls, who gasp in delight. They love spiders!)

Marinette: Meet Emma, Hugo, and Louis. Such beautiful beings, are they not? How they creep and crawl, waiting to give you a scare! I wish I could be a fearsome spider, catching up little things in my web.

Winlix: (Holding one of the spiders) Hey little dude! (To Marinette) That would be epic!

Jubella: Vell, ve vould certainly have room for zhem. Ve shall build you a room soon, so zhat you can stay here for sleepovers!

Marinette: It would make my heart scream!

(They then travel to the Phantom's lair. There's a pipe organ, ominous fog, ghostly outfits for disguises, sheet music, gnarly trees, and tons of mirrors. Mylentasma gestures dramatically as she speaks of her spooky yet comforting abode.)

Mylentasma: Ah, my oasis of music! Is it not wonderful! Here is my sanctuary where I sing to my hearts content!

Kagami: Me and Mylene go to each other's rooms sometimes to revel in being spirits. We chase each other around, it's really fun. And I like to listen to her play.

Mylentasma: Ah yes, my beloved organ. I've crafted such heartwarming and horrifying melodies, all to help my fellow thespians of DuPont, and for the simple joy of pleasing myself and my sisters! And sometimes... Ivan, my Angel of Music. We sing such beautiful ballads to each other, I am the voice he hears in his mind.

Marinette: I’m sure you two will make such a lovely pair!

Mylentasma: Soon, I know. It's not that I fear him rejecting me, he has told me that I'm the only one he feels love for. I simply want to wait a little while, find the right moment. I plan on composing an opera for my angel, and students are welcome to join in, though it is not a demand.

(Marinette smiles as she looks at the different ghostly outfits and masks on display.)

Mylentasma: So you’ve noticed. Yes, despite being a spirit, we are able to create and wear different clothes. I like to change it up every now and again. We all do. This outfit is my favorite. My mother wore similar attire, and she had such good taste! But enough about me. Let us continue, my sisters!

(Next up is Rose Frankenteen's lab. There's bubbling vials, gadgets, creepy tools, and tons of other mad sciency stuff. The mad doctor cackles as she dances around the room.)

Rose Frankenteen: Isn’t it just a scream?! I made it all myself! I’m always tampering and tinkering.

Jubella: She vorks vith such ferocity, it brings lovely chills to my spine. Marinette: Ah, and I assume you show off these gadgets to Sabrina and Max? They mention hearing your laughter and you letting them touch your inventions.

(Rose grins at hearing about her human she likes to interact with.)

Rose Frankenteen: Yes, she’s such a lovely girl! So intelligent and curious! She deserves so much better than that dreadful Chloe! And then there's Max, he's so intelligent, especially for a human! I'm planning on collaborating with him in the future. Of course, I still give those two quite the fright at times!

Winlix: Speakin' of frights, my room's up next!

(There was meat, chew toys, workout stuff, a buncha history stuff because of her late parents. It also has a bunch of trees and have rocks to make it like a wolf den. Probably also have moon and star decals on the ceiling)

(Winlix barks with joy and runs around the room.)

Marinette: This place is beautiful! Befitting of a werewolf, might I add.

(Winlix grins, showing off her sharp teeth.)

Winlix: What can I say, It’s my den!

Kagami: If there's one thing she loves doing in this room, it's prepping for a pounce. She's even able to get me and Mylene if she catches us off guard.

Rose Frankenteen: It's a sign of honor if she pounces on you at home. (Winlix grins, realizing she hasn't pounced on Marinette yet.)

Winlix: (Pounces on Marinette, hugging her new friend and she growls happily)

(Marinette giggles as Winlix licks her face)

Winlix: No way you’re getting outta this cuddle, Mar' (The other ghouls join her in the cuddle session.)

Jubella: It is no use, my dear. You are surrounded.

(They giggle and let go, as they head to Alynis's room.)

(Alynis's room is styled after an Egpyptian throne room. There are scarabs everywhere, hieroglyphics, a space for her to blog with a computer and wifi, a sarcophogus, various snacks and posters, and dust. She smiles, putting her hands up dramatically.)

Alynis: Behold, my marvelous tomb. The perfect space for a ruler of the sandy expanse such as myself!

(She smiles as the scarabs begin interacting with the spiders, with the different bugs chatting to each other.)

Alynis: We need to have our babies get together for a playdate. Jules can bring hers as well!

Jubella: Vhat a delightfully fangtastic idea!

Alynis: And this is my sarcophogus. Make sure not to disturb my slumber, or suffer my wrath! Mwahaha!

Marinette: I wouldn’t dream of it, my dear. I wouldn’t wish to incur the curse of the mighty pharaoh!

(Alynis giggles)

Alynis: Of course, here's where I conjure up my sand storms.

(She starts doing exaggerated gestures)

Winlix: Watch out, sis! You don't wanna break a hip.

(Alynis gives her an annoyed look and sticks her tongue out)

Alynis: And of course, here is my blog! I call it "The Wrap". There's entries on me and my sisters, news stories, and sharing the history of monsterkind! Alix helps out with it.

Marinette: I’ll be sure to check it out! It seems quite interesting *Smiling* I've always had a love for the world wide web. And I just can't wait to see your room, 'Gami!

(She blushes and takes her hand.)

(The guest room has plenty of TVs for the ghost to enter, along with headstones, bonsai trees and tons of curtains. There is a deathly chill in the air.

(Kagami floats around her room, so happy that Marinette likes her ghostly safe haven.)

Kagami: I’m so glad you like it! I hope we spend time here together!

Marinette: Come to me in my dreams, love. Then we can spend all the time we want. (As they head to the witches room, the girls explain why the house is so big.)

Rose Frankenteen: This place was designed as a haven for our families. They all got together and made sure we were born in a place where we could be safe from hunters.

Marinette: Hunters?

Mylentasma: While we've been lucky to find some humans willing to protect us, others look at monsters with such hatred, that they were able to kill our parents, and in some cases, our siblings.

Kagami: My mother was able to escape her trap, but was blinded in the process. (Marinette looks with such anguish at this news.)

Marinette: How horrible! I know that saying sorry doesn't fix anything but-

Jubella: It vas painful, yes. Zat is vhy ve protect the school and each other! In zeir honor, and to repay our dear mothers!

Alynis: Who you'll meet soon enough. After all, they'll be present for your induction into our group, as a sister.

(Marinette enters the Witches's room. There's bubbling cauldrons, potions, what else would there be?)

Probably classroom type stuff, as they’re also teachers who educate their ‘daughters’.

(Yep, and decorative skulls as well.) Marinette: I assume this is where you get your education?

Mylentasma: Yes, our mothers have taught us much in the ways of the magical and scholarly!

Alynis: And of course... how to spook the pants off of people.

(The girls all giggle and begin recapping stuff they were taught by the Witches of Wisdom.)

Alynis: For instance, they teach me how to use dark magic not just to save people, but to give 'em nightmares as well.

Winlix: They give me a lot of great pouncing tips!

Mylentasma: I've learned so many ghostly tricks from them. Appearing in mirrors, shooting fireballs, how to make shadows appear in front of my face.

Jubella: Zey have taught me much about utilizing my vampire powers to zhe very highest benefit!

Kagami: I learned how to access and control my psychic abilties because of them. Now I can show off the true power of a spirit.

Rose Frankenteen: They taught me how to hone my terrifying monster angle! GRAAAAH!

Winlix: Yeah, we all made up these characters, and Rose switches between a big hulking brute, and her usual mad scientist self.

Rose Frankenteen: Rosie good actress! GRAAAGGHH!

(They hear three sets of delightfully spooky cackles coming from the shadows.)

Giselle: A human with as frightful a mind as you all. And dare I say, a new sister to join our group?

Olga: Let's see if she has what it takes, my pretties.

Marinette: All my life I've wanted to learn the ways of witchcraft, please reveal yourselves to me!

(The three emerge from the shadows, cackling with delight and shrouded in ominous light. They grin at her sense of fashion, her love for spiders, and all the things that they've overheard. They tip their pointy hats to her, using magic to make their cloaks flap inside.)

Caline: Delighted to meet you my dear! And might I say what adorable little arachnids you have there!

Marinette: Thank you, miss. I've always had such a passion for these creatures.

(Giselle nods and kisses her wife before speaking to Marinette.)

Giselle: And your sense of style is so morbidly beautiful my dear!

(Marinette takes a bow.)

Marinette: Thank my parents. I suppose I share their love for the eerie and macarbe.

Olga: And you say have the wish to learn witchcraft?

(Marinette nods eagerly)

Marinette: More than anything!

Caline: Well, we’d be happy to teach you! You certainly have the spirit for it!

Marinette: You would?! (The girls pat her on the back.)

Mylentasma: We told you they’d love you!

Marinette: *Bowing to them* I eagerly accept to follow your teachings, masters.

Olga: Then it is time for your induction to begin. Gather round, Marinette, my girls, for you are about to have a new sister!

(The ghouls cheer with joy, hugging Marinette)

(They all move back and surround her, and the incantation begins. Eerie green fog surrounds the room, and the witches eyes begin to glow.)

Marinette: I promise I won't let you down, mothers.

Caline: We know, darling. We have every confidence you will fully embrace your magic!

Giselle: We'll start your training tomorrow, dear.

Olga: But don't expect to be safe from our frights, isn't that right, girls? Don't go soft on her.

Mylentasma: We wouldn’t dream of it!

Alynis: We’ll still spook her out of her skin!

Marinette: I would want nothing more, and beware of spooks yourselves, my sisters. You never know when a spider will strike. (Giggles)

(The others all cackle along with her, they were going to have a wonderfully terrifiying time!)

Miraculous Halloween Fic Recs

It's Halloween, so I figured that people might be in the mood for some spooky, supernatural, or just plain Halloween-related fics! All of these are complete.

Herbs And Steam by @liiinerle

Juleka le Flor Blef, nature witch from near the forest of Couffaine, arrives at Eiffel Castle so she can partake in the Queen's Trials - a contest to determine the strongest witch in all of France. She wants to prove the strength of her magic, but when she arrives, her attention is quickly distracted by two very interesting women: Kagami, the princess, who seems to act nothing like a princess should; and Marinette, the blacksmith, who has created a magic all her own through metal, steam, and ingenuity. Juleka is immediately besotted with both of them, and needs to work extra hard to focus on her magic. Juleka also soon becomes aware that there is stronger magic at Eiffel castle than she had expected. For one thing, there's a tree in the courtyard put there years ago by a witch whose powers seem to surpass hers; for another, there's Alya la Pluvie Versaunt, who must be the most powerful mage Juleka has ever met...

Unusual poly here, there aren't a lot of Juleka/Kagami/Marinette fics! I love the world here, getting to see all these different witches honing their craft, and Juleka making friends with many of them - though especially the nonwitches Kagami and Marinette, of course XD. If you like some femslash or a good fantasy AU, this fic should scratch that itch!

Until the paramedics did their jobs and suddenly she wasn’t dead anymore. Waking up to find that half of her soul had remained tethered to the afterlife, allowing her the ability to see things others can’t, Marinette grows up an outcast. It isn’t until she moves in with her only friend, a detective she’s known since preschool, that she finds her purpose, solving his harder cases with the help of her spiritual connections. Three years later, she’s thriving. Her own business, two best friends, a K-9 drop out as a companion- life couldn’t get better. Until she meets Chat. A ghost with amnesia and a mask to match, Chat isn’t sure what he needs to move on to the afterlife (and, considering he’s stuck around for another three years, he doesn’t seem in all that much of a hurry to figure it out either!) When Amelie Agreste, a socialite from out of town, comes to Marinette for help locating her missing nephew, Marinette knows her career and her life will be on the line. But even a murderer intent on silencing her forever can’t keep Marinette from seeking the truth.

This is a really fun detective story. You can probably guess one or two of the major twists (not counting the twist of "Adrien is Chat Noir" which I certainly HOPE isn't a spoiler to anyone reading this), but that doesn't make it any less satisfying, especially with how Marinette's and Chat's relationship is developed. Or well, what interactions we see from them, since they've known each other for years by the time the story starts. I adore the "my friend is a ghost" trope, and the identity shenanigans and mystery around what actually happened to Adrien kept me wondering.

It's an M-rated fic, which I'm guessing is mostly due to an attempted sexual assault at one point in the story, though it doesn't get very far before it's stopped. I also want to warn Luka fans that he's not shown in the best light in this fic, though it's not too extreme.

"Nooroo bleeds and Paris drowns in his blood." The day of the Blight, Paris bore witness to a horror too grand to comprehend. Only Chloé Bourgeois bore witness to a miracle. Marinette, Alya and the rest of Paris will need more than faith in Gimmi to survive. As the city's sanity hangs by a thread, bodies, minds, and souls are traded with the unknown in order to hold on to the things they each treasure most. Written for the AU Roulette Challenge 2024 with the prompt: Cosmic Horror AU

If you like Cosmic Horror (Lovecraftian I think? Though this isn't really my wheelhouse), then this is the story for you! I love seeing how Paris copes with the madness seeping through its streets, somehow going about daily life despite it all.

Kwamis here are more inhuman, more separated from humanity. There's no cute little miniature form to help bridge the gap. While humans can still meld with kwami, it's not all quite as firmly in the human's control as it normally is, and the side effects are worse. It doesn't help that the kwamis can't fully understand squishy little humans' wants, needs, or morality.

Like, as Ladybug, Marinette can't remember her human name, and her human concerns are somewhat muted. While as Marinette, she can't remember certain aspects of her time as Ladybug, and only regains those memories when she transforms again. She also has to be careful about restoring everything, as she can't just give Tikki a cookie and call it a day. Instead, she herself needs to eat enough to compensate for the lost energy, which can be a substantial portion of the goods in her parents' bakery.

As for Adrien... well, this is still going off of Sentimonster Adrien, though the ritual to create him went differently... and went wrong. But he is still Adrien.

Chloe's interesting as well, she's this sort of priest, this missionary for the kwamis, but her methods are... well, not the best. She still has a bunch of her canonical hangups, even though she IS somewhat helpful.

I love Alya in here, she's just desperately trying to figure out what's going on so that she can try to fix it, especially since Nino's one of the people who's been driven mad by the Blight. She does find some answers, and even ends up being partially responsible for Ladybug's creation and Chat's and Ladybug's subsequent fight against the worst effects of the Blight, but the risks, danger, and side effects she suffers are still significant. Though some of those side effects can be used to her advantage.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this AU and thought it was an interesting take on the subject, I highly recommend checking it out!

If you want a nice Magic AU, this is your jam! I slowly became more invested with Adrien's fate as Marinette did, and I loved seeing bits of this magic society. And of course, Adrien and Marinette always find their way to each other, even if Marinette happens to be a few centuries overdue.

Félix’s father is a monster despite being very, very human. He learns to navigate the world through these two truths.)

I loved how this story emphasized the differences between different kinds of monsters - the type who inhabit horror stories, who look terrifying, and the mundane, human sorts of monsters who are often the most dangerous. And how monsters can choose to act humanely, while humans can choose to act monstrously.

Luka died in 2016. Yep. Crushed by the Arc de Triumph when Mayura’s Robustus slammed into it. It was kind of a big deal, but once you’re dead, you’re dead—especially when there’s no Lucky Charm to bring you back. Luka’s been dealing with it in the typical ways. Written for FeLuka week 2023.

Yes, this is FeLuka. Not one of the typical ships I read, but I ain’t opposed to it, and this is a nice foray into the pairing. I love ghost AUs! Luka’s just fumbling around, unsure what to do with his incorporeal existence, until he starts haunting Felix. It’s an intriguing plot and I gotta admit, I wish it was longer so it could be fleshed out more, but what’s here is good.

It was only natural, probably, that she would help Zoé practice flirting. That was definitely a great idea. Granted, the deadly Akuma battle around them was a bit of an issue…

Quality Zoegami fic here! I loved how Kagami kept thinking she was bad at flirting, but it was sure working on Zoe XD. The akuma attack going on around them, interweaving with their conversation, added a bit of spice to the whole affair!

After dropping it on the floor, she picked up one of the teacups and picked up a biscuit from a tin she’d brought in; she placed the biscuit on the saucer plate and handed the whole thing to Kagami, who could only really resign herself to accepting it. —– Marinette has raised Kagami from the dead, and also happens to be dead herself. It turns out some bad choices were made in the past. But that doesn’t mean they’ll lead to bad outcomes for them now.

I love this, Marinette’s incredibly blase about being a zombie - which makes sense, given how long she’s had to get used to the idea. And she’s waited so long, tried so hard to bring Kagami back as well, though if she didn’t WANT to be back, she’d accede to that request. Luckily, Kagami doesn’t seem to mind as long as she’s with Marinette XD.

When Marinette finds a wanted ad that provokes just enough questions in her mind that she can’t help answering it, the reward is sweeter than she could have imagined.

I love the little bit of worldbuilding we get here about vampire society, and Adrien’s usual awkward adorableness in asking Marinette for a certain necessary favor. It’s always neat to see such familiar characterization in a supernatural setting like this.

Ah, Fantasy Soulmate AUs, my beloved XD. This ain’t the only one of this fic type I’m gonna be recommending. This is just a cute fluff fic without much strife. I love Marinette and Chat Noir being able to be childhood friends via his visits, even if he has to pretend to be her cat whenever he comes over, and I ESPECIALLY adore Alya being his chaperone and quickly becoming friends with Marinette in her own right. It ain’t a complicated plot, but it is a nice and warm fic.

(well, not really, considering those heating supplements he was taking, but she didn’t need to know about that).

This one’s mostly just cute cuddly adorableness! It’s basically like all those “Marinette gets the Ladybug trait of needing to cuddle up to someone for warmth”, but with Adrien instead. And of course featuring Marinette being a very talented witch who just wants to help Adrien stay warm when she isn’t there XD.

This one’s mostly just some really cute Lovesquare shenanigans around Halloween, with some really fun sequences like Marinette and Adrien getting body-swapped and Marinette temporarily becoming a vampire (and also Marinette repeatedly stunning Adrien with her outfits. I was just waiting for him to pass out from blood loss from a nosebleed).

Crossing Blades: An ML Fanfic Chapter 1 of 3

Crossing Blades

The warning continued to blare on the ancient radio. It almost overrode the sounds of panic coming through the thin windows and walls of the backroom apartment. Wang Fu paced like a caged animal, twisting the bracelet on his wrist over and over. Beside him Wayzz hung in the air, concerned but silent.

Master Fu stopped in place, eyes narrowed at some unseen ghosts of the past, or future. “I must act. Wayzz, shell on!”

In a flash of green, casual clothing was replaced with armor and mask. Jade Turtle stepped up to the gramophone with determination in his manner. Tap, taptap, tap. Out came the miracle box.

Ignoring the two that remained on the top layer, he reached into a side drawer and took out the snake miraculous. He paused only once, turning away with the green band in hand. Is this the correct path? A life of running had not prepared him for a fight.

Without looking back, Jade Turtle closed the miracle box. The snap of the lid renewed his flagging conviction. This was right. He could bring things back under control and set them in balance once more.

If only he had looked back, he might have seen the fox tail necklace judder and bounce. He might have seen it hop from the box and hook itself to the back of his belt. He might have seen the little fox kwami blinking into existence, the culprit behind the jewelry’s odd behavior, then blink out again.

But, he did not.

Ladybug ducked between two buildings. She had no idea if the narrow alleyway was a dead end, she just needed breathing room. Squads of black armored knights marched up and down the streets, attacking anyone caught outside at will. Dark clouds painted the sky, casting everything into deep shadows.

She believed the source to be at city hall, a new akuma -of course- but she needed more to go on. She also needed a partner. She was *this* close to wishing for the Miraculous thief to show up, just to have someone watch her back against the legion of minions this akuma commanded.

To think, this morning had seemed like such a big deal only a few hours ago.

“Good morning everyone. Before we start for today, it’s time to elect your class representative.” Ms. Bustier had spoken in a chipper but uncertain tone. She gestured to Chloé in the front seat, “Chloé, I haven’t heard from Sabrina yet, but can we count on the two of you again this year?”

“What?” a muddled reply came, “No, ugh. I don’t want to be stupid representative anymore. Someone else do it.”

That had brought Marinette out of her own thoughts. Chloé had been weird lately, but Marinette had had her own problems to deal with. However, passing up prestige, not being the bigwig in the room? That was something else entirely. Marinette looked down at the back of Chloé’s head. Was the ponytail frizzed today? There was body language there that felt off, the set of her shoulders wasn’t right. Marinette had gotten good at reading Chloé’s moods in self defense.

Ms. Bustier’s lips made a surprised ‘oh’ and she looked up,”Well does anyone else want to run for the position?”

The kind of absolute silence that can only come from asking for a volunteer echoed back at her.

Ms. Bustier clasped her hands and tried again, “Chloé, why not be representative again this year? You know the most about it. You’re right here at the front of the room too. If things are a bit hectic, I’m sure we can work something out…”

“I said No!” Chloé slammed her palms down on the desk and stood up so fast Sabrina fell off the bench as it moved. “If being at the front means I have to do it, FINE!”

She grabbed her bag and stalked back to the rear of the room. All eyes followed her but no one dared say a word. Rose scooted closer to Juleka. Ivan’s brows lowered as she passed. Nathaniel’s eyes began to widen as she approached his desk.

*Thump* She shoved her bag onto it. Nathaniel’s eyes darted, he seemed paralyzed. Chloé’s face flushed for a moment then she grabbed his sketchbook from the desk.”You sit in the front now!”

The hurled sketchbook opened in mid-flight like a wounded bird, flapping and spinning until it landed on the front desk then skittered off the other side to the floor. Ms. Bustier’s eyes tracked its entire flight. There was one more beat of silence then she looked up.

“Ms. Bourgeois, that is no way to-”

“I know I know. I suck, whatever. Shut up. I’m in the back now, I can’t be the rep. Someone else do it.” Chloé dropped herself onto the bench beside Nathaniel, who fell off the other side, scrambling to escape.

He scuttled down to the front. Ms. Bustier met him and handed him his sketchbook with a gentle, ”Please put this away during the lesson, Nathaniel.” before looking up to the back. “Ms. Bourgeois, see me after class.”

An honest to God hiss was her answer to that.

Ms. Bustier quickly replaced the serene mask she normally wore, “So, it appears the field is indeed wide open. Would no one else like to take the reins and lead our class to the future?”

Alya’s elbow dug lightly into Marinette’s side. “You should do it,” her friend whispered.

Marinette bit her lip. It would be work, more work on top of Ladybug. She didn’t want to let anyone down either. She was always late, even before the miraculous. Surely someone else could do it, right?

“I don’t have time. Why don’t you try it?” Marinette whispered back.

“La-dy Blog,” Alya sing-songed. “Come on, maybe you could get Adrien to be your assistant.”

That sparked a whole ball of feelings. Imagined black cat ears popped into being atop Adrien’s head in Marinette’s mind. Adrien, Cat Noir, a chance to be partners again?

“Mylene!” Alix broke the silence that had settled again.

The redhead gave the girl beside her a friendly shove.

“You’re always into political stuff. Why don’t you do it?”

Mylene smiled for a second before shrinking in her seat. “I umm, don’t know. I’ve never actually been in charge of anything before.”

Alix leaned grinned down at Ms. Bustier, “I nominate Mylene! We can do that, right?”

The relief was clear on the teacher’s face, “Yes! Yes of course, nominations are allowed, though they need to be accepted.”

“Cool. Then that. I nominate. Come on, Mylene. Show us what you got.”

After a look towards Ivan, and another downcast fidget in her seat, Mylene finally nodded.

Marinette sagged with relief. That was taken care-

Alya’s voice, “Well, I nomi-”

A storm of images hit Marinette. Pressure, uncertainty, working with Adrien, not working with Adrien. Mylene working with Adrien, of all the oddball things.

She shot to her feet, “I nominate Alya!”

There was a general classwide blink.

Ms. Bustier nodded, “Alya, would you accept?”

Alya missed a beat, but recovered. “Yeah, sure. That way we get an election, right?” She leaned around Marinette, “We’ll highlight important issues with our speeches, right Mylene?”

Mylene brightened, “Yes, of course!”

There was a general murmur of excitement. Marinette took her seat again, giving Alya a smug look before whispering, “Beat you to it.”

Alya raised an eyebrow. “Girl, I was gonna nominate Adrien. You already said you didn’t want to. I figured it could work the other way too.”

Marinette’s triumphant smile melted into sadness. She slumped face first onto the desk. Alya patted her gently on the back.

“I dunno what about Mr. Modelpants does it for you, but I was trying to help.”

Marinette mumbled against the wood, “You got my vote.” She pushed herself upright and looked down to the row in front of them. “He just seems… nice. I think he deserves a chance.”

Alya’s snort was anything but subtle, “A chance with you, that is quite a reward.”

Marinette went instantly red. “I didn’t- I mean-”

Alya laid a hand on her shoulder, “Relax, girl. I got you.”

“You can speak at my funeral when I die of embarrassment,” Marinette groused.

“I will move the crowds to tears.” Alya nodded solemnly.

Much needed giggles slipped from Marinette’s lips. A sharply cleared throat cut her reply short though.

“Miss Cesaire, you will be ready to deliver your speech in the morning?” Ms. Bustier asked pointedly.

Alya saluted. “Yes Ma’am.”

At the time it had all seemed so important.

Breather over, Ladybug considered her options. She wasn’t even sure where the akuma was. City Hall seemed a good bet. The roving packs of armored warriors were a risk. One on one, she trusted her miraculous enhanced reflexes, but five on one? Ten? She wished for Cat Noir. In a moment of weakness she even felt she would settle for the thief. She needed someone to watch her back. She needed a partner.

A flash of motion -above!- Ladybug lashed out and dodged.

Spang!

Her yo-yo rebounded off the wide-brimmed metal hat of a green glad warrior. “Hold, Ladybug! I am ally, not foe!”

Ladybug kept her yo-yo at the ready. “Ally? Who are you?”

He raised his head, revealing the green mask and a smile. “I am the Guardian of the Miraculous. You may call me Jade Turtle.”

She sized him up quickly. Her height, her age? It was impossible to tell much from behind a mask. He held himself with poise, but also hunched like his namesake, as if awaiting a blow. “Guardian? What is that? Do you know what’s going on?”

He bowed his head a fraction, “I do, and I will share what I can with you once the crisis has passed. I have brought you the means to garner an ally in this battle.”

He unhooked a small box from his belt and opened it. Inside lay an unassuming bracelet of Jade.

“This is the Miraculous of the snake, which holds the power of intuition. It will allow the wearer to loop time, up to five minutes, to find the correct path to victory. Give it to one you trust.”

Adrien. The name popped instantly into Ladybug’s mind. She could have her partner back. She reached for the box but paused. “Will you be fighting with us too?”

Jade Turtle shook his head, “I am here to reclaim what is lost. I expect the black cat will make an appearance, and I will be ready. It is vital the miraculous not fall into the wrong hands.”

Ladybug took the box. Something nagged the back of her mind, but it didn’t translate properly and only, “Are you sure?” left her lips.

Jade Turtle nodded and ran his fingers along the brim of his metal hat. “Yes, almost as sure as I was in choosing you to be Ladybug.”

With that he turned and vaulted up out of the alley to the rooftops.

The box was heavy in Ladybug’s hand as her eyes lingered after the only person with any answers to her questions. Adrien. I can get this to Adrien. No rooftops for me though. I can’t risk being seen and followed.

Ladybug checked the end of the alleyway and then scurried back towards school, and she hoped, an ally.

Jade Turtle moved quickly as possible, keeping to the shadows. Avoiding being seen was still an ingrained habit. That which was not known could not be pursued, much less caught. The city swarmed with units of armored knights marching in formations. They were a concern, but also, he suspected, the perfect bait. His instincts proved correct. Commotion, running soldiers, and sounds of battle drew him to his quarry.

The new holder of the black cat stood in a swath of carnage. Fallen knights littered the ground like leaves, but there was a lull. Only one knight still stood, sword held robotically en garde against her.

Jade Turtle's eyes scanned the scene quickly. He broke cover, “No! Wait!”

Too late. The black cat moved, slipping the knight's stiff guard and lashing out. Claws tore metal and everything beneath with equal ease. The knight crumpled into the pile.

“You! You! They are being controlled by the akuma! They are innocent people!”

She seemed to register only slowly. Feline disinterest painted across her sharp features. “Who are you supposed to be? Sewer Hat Boy?”

He raised his own guard as he approached. He knew better than to trust the languid curiosity in those mismatched eyes. “My name is unimportant. My purpose is to reclaim the black cat from you. You are not the one destined to hold it.” He directed a pointed glance down to the fallen bodies. “And you paint yourself unworthy by deed as well.”

She tilted her head slowly, then kicked the body at her feet. “They’ll be fine once stupid Ladybug does her thing. As for my miraculous, oh just you try to take it.”

Jade Turtle steeled himself and dropped into a fighting stance. “As you wish. These bones may be old, but they know many secrets.”

With the moment at hand Jade Turtle hesitated, how best to attack? He must strip the ring from her hand. Protection would be the key. He cou-

There was no warning in her eyes, no tension in her stance, none of the things he had learned to look for. She dropped into a hunched run, legs powering her into a lurching drunken charge that devoured the space between them.

Jade turtle jerked backwards. A clawed swipe slashed through the air where his throat had been. Another lunged for his eyes.

Block. Block. Redirect. Turn. Clear roo- no she was on him again. Catch. Twist. Her whole body moved as bonelessly as her namesake, spinning her whole body in the air around the pivot of his wristlock. Her claw toed boot scored lines in his metal hat.

Jade Turtle tried to disengage. He just needed space, time. She dogged his every move. He was being chased again, chased across the street just as he had been chased his whole life. Flashbacks warred with reality. His foe lunged and it wasn’t a child, it was a grown man in a black leather uniform with a very different meaning. Jade Turtle had been helpless then, he wasn’t now.

He lashed out and struck the man a deeply deserved killing blow to the sternum. Contact evaporated the memory. The child collapsed the ground in its place, but rebounded impossibly.

“So that’s how it is…” She gritted through clenched fangs. “Cataclysm!”

He’d lost control! Dodge. Dodge. Stagger. Dodge. Dodge. Backpedal. Something in that heterochromic gaze dredged up every fear from his two centuries of running. He couldn’t- he needed- She wouldn’t give him room.

“Protection!”

Instinct took over when reason fled. He met her next swipe and caught her just inside the wrist. The turtle Miraculous did the rest. A bubble of Green around that black death-clad hand.

He panted, keeping her wrist held firmly. ”Now… I’ve got you. Surrender. You can not-”

The Cataclysm vanished.

Motion.

Jade Turtle flinched and it saved his life.

Her free hand came around, sparking with destruction. It met the dipping edge of his shield hat and blasted it apart in an instant. The feedback robbed him of his senses and strength. Jade turtle fell. He sensed more than saw the shadow looming over him.

“Five minutes left to show you just how big of a mistake you’ve made.”

The difference five minutes could make; a million times over.

“Adrien!”

Adrien skidded to a stop at the sound of that voice. He cast a quick glance back over his shoulder, it looked like he had finally lost them. He turns his gaze skyward just as Ladybug landed beside him.

She unclipped a small box from her hip as she straightened up, holding it out. “Am I glad to see you! I looked at your house first and you weren’t there, so then I checked the school. You weren't there either, so I tried all the streets in between and-”

She paused, withdrawing the box slightly.

“What are you doing out here?”

Adrien looked down, rubbing the back of his head. “Well, I thought, I mean I hoped, maybe I might still be useful. If I could, maybe at least find the akuma and report back.”

Or find Chloé and get the cat back. Or anything just to not be a disappointment. Well, not a disappointment to her. He was pretty sure Alya and Nino wouldn’t be happy with him for running off. He had glimpsed Nino running after him, even.

Ladybug made a soft sound in her throat, “Adrien, you’re amazing,” his heart swelled, “I don’t want you to be running around without a miraculous though. It’s dangerous out here. It’s a miracle you haven’t been caught and turned into one of these knight-zombie things. That’s why-”

Adrien looked up, sure the axe would fall now. He couldn’t account for the color on Ladybug’s cheeks, or the softness when she held the box out again.

“That’s why I’ve got something for you. It’s the snake Miraculous. With it you can help me again. We can defeat this akuma, get back your miraculous, and stop Hawkmoth!”

She’d laid out the snake’s powers. Sass had been more reserved than Plagg, but polite. When Adrien had transformed into Aspik he’d thought he’d caught Ladybug giggling behind her hand, but she flashed him a big smile nonetheless. She even rubbed his new costume’s smooth head ‘for Luck’. The plan was simple, split up and circle City Hall north and south. See what could be seen and meet up on the other side.

That had been less than ten minutes ago.

It had been months ago.

Aspik had spotted Chloé midway through his sweep. She ran on rooftops, wielding the power of the black cat, his power. The power he’d lost. He had the perfect chance to get it back, as many chances as needed. Aspik had activated Second Chance and altered his course. He couldn’t fail.

Reset. Come from the right. Reset. Try the left. Reset. Try reasoning. Reset. Threatening. Reset. Bargaining. Reset. Fight. Reset. Angry. Reset. Screaming. Reset. Go for the ring. Reset. Go for a knockout. Reset. Try to call Ladybug. Reset. Ladybug arrives on her own and catches a cataclysm. Reset. Reveal who he is. Reset. Again. Reset. Again. Reset. Reset. Reset. He’s hanging over the edge of a roof, danglinging from her grip on his wrist. The last light is blinking on the bracelet. He can’t reach- She smirks and twists the bracelet for him. Reset. Reset. Reset. Something is happening. Reset. The world feels thin. Reset. Spots at the edges of his vision. Reset. No, spots in the sky. Reset. Destruction. Reset. Cataclysm lingering. Reset. Wearing away these five minutes like a thread pulled back and forth through the eye of a needle too many times. Reset. He can’t fail! Reset. He has to prove- Reset. To Ladybug. Reset. He is-

Falling…

He can’t remember what he said this time. He can’t remember who threw the first punch. A thousand thousand truths overlap and spill out, covering his senses. There’s only one consistency. He lost, again.

Aspik hits the pavement hard. A storm of black lightning tears at the sky for three, two, one. The snake Miraculous chirps one last warning and powers down. The storm vanishes. Time, no longer abused, marches on. It leaves him behind again. Chloé didn’t even spare him the benefit of a backward glance this time. Would it have even mattered if she did? Would seeing him defeated by her hand again have been the right or wrong thing to do? Would it have made her pause? Would that have been what made her give it back?

He feels numb. The street is a too-hard bed but he feels like he could sleep for a decade if he just closed his eyes. The overcast clouds no longer threaten the end, but are still a reminder of the akuma at large.

“Adrien!” Nino’s voice is so out of place it takes a moment for Adrien to recognize it.

Adrien turns his head, still not ready to move beyond that, to watch his friend rushing headlong down the empty street. Nino? Why are you here? It’s dangerous. Too dangerous.

“Dude! Are you okay? Can you stand?” Nino drops to one knee and tries to haul Adrien to his feet.

The answers quickly present themselves. No, and No. Adrien is beyond exhausted. His legs won’t hold him. He stumbles into Nino. His throat feels like sandpaper. “What are you doing here?”

“Looking for you, dude.” Nino loops Adrien’s arm over his shoulders and tries to take on more of the weight. Adrien’s legs still aren’t cooperating.

Ha. Hero saved by a civilian. But then, what’s the difference? Adrien found the strength to push Nino off gently, but not the strength to keep standing once he had. He sat down hard, but pulled the Snake Miraculous off his wrist. A weary Sass sprang into being, hovering low in the air.

Nino blinked, ”Dude?”

Adrien waved him off with a floppy hand. “No time. Ladybug needs help. Defeat the Akuma. Tell Sass ‘Scales Slither.’ Bracelet resets things. Five minutes tops. Help Ladybug.”

Nino’s eyes darted between Sass and the bracelet Adrien was holding out in a trembling hand. Shock and fear each had a turn, but determination was right on their heels. He took the bracelet from Adrien’s hand, “I’ll try.”

Adrien remembered, “Get the cat back for Ladybug, if you can.”

Sass managed to perk some, and the transformation worked. Snake-clad Nino turned in the direction Adrien pointed, but before leaping away called back over his shoulder, “You have so much explaining to do, dude.”

And with that, he was gone.

Adrien fell back onto his back, ready to let the darkness of sleep take him, hopefully before more knights showed up. Instead a new, high pitched, scratchy voice reached his ears.

“Hey. Hey you. I’ve got a proposition for you. We can both help each other out.”

ML Pokémon

Ok, thought.

Marinette still wants to be fashion designer, but most fashion in Pokémon is centred on Coordinating. However, Marinette has performance anxiety, so she performs in Contests under the Alias “Ladybug”, wearing a mask to conceal her identity. While she doesn’t really want anyone to know she’s Ladybug - it’s stress she doesn’t need right now - it’s a bit lower stakes on the identity reveal so far. (Pokémon: Ledyba, Sewaddle, Scatterbug/Spewpa)

Adrien performs in Contests under his father’s label and management, but feels very stifled, as he’s basically representing his dad’s brand, and therefore has a certain image he has to maintain. He does actually enjoy Contests though, so sometimes sneaks out to perform under the Alias “Chat Noir”, where he can do more what he wants. Is considering doing the badge challenge as Chat Noir too. (Pokémon: [Adrien Agreste] Snivy, Shiny Furfrou/ [Chat Noir] Alolan Meowth, Purrloin, Absol)

Gabriel is looking for a specific Legendary Pokémon (?Terapogos, Celebi, Xerneas, Mew, Mewtwo, Darkrai, Cresselia?) because Emilie is in an unnatural coma for currently unexplained reasons. Fu is the current Guardian of that Pokémon, or the way to that Pokémon, but is getting very old. Through either circumstance, or a comedy of errors, “Ladybug” & “Chat Noir” end up guarding the Legendary Pokémon from “Hawk Moth” & “Mayura” (Phantom!Thief Gabriel & Nathalie, basically). By Team Rocket Rules, nobody notices each other’s identities. Fu decides to charge them with being the future guardians (either they were really competent, or maybe the Legendary sends a sign, like “I want these two”).

other thoughts:

- Juleka has a Kecleon and Vaporeon. Also Low Amp Toxtricity.

- Luka NEEDS to have Meloetta. Don’t know why or how, or for how long, but he does. Also want him to have a Lapras that knows Psychic, which can use on itself to “fly” (not particularly high or anything, but it can travel short distances over land fairly quickly). Also Amped Toxtricity, and a Ralts.

- I realize Fu should probably have a Torterra, but he also needs a Drampa

- Not sure whether identity shenanigans should play a major role beyond Adrien not recognizing his dad and pseudo-mom via Team Rocket Rules. Like, do Adrien and Marinette still keep their identities secret from each other, or because this is now probably more dangerous than “I’m uncomfortable on stage”/“If my dad finds out’ he’ll be upset”, would they spill?

- Alix managed to befriend a Celebi as a child. It shows up to “play” still, which sometimes results in time travel.

- Chloé needs a Vespiquen. Also a Beedrill. Also a Teddiursa. Also a Cutiefly. Also Shiny Lucario.

- Not Sure if Max should have a Porygon or a Rotom, or both, and which should be called Markov

- Kim has mostly monkey Pokémon, but also a Golduck (apparently the best swimmers in the Pokémon world)

- Should Mylene have a Mimikyu?

- Nathaniel has a Smeargle, and a Grafaiai (graffiti monkey)

- Kagami gets a Pawniard, a Galarian Farfetch’d, maybe Gallade, then I don’t know which dragon she gets, but something pseudo, probably. Also have her meet the Swords of Justice, cause, come on

- I want to give Rose, like, a Togepi, a Roselia, then ALL Ghost-types

- Someone needs a Chansey

- no idea what Nathalie has.

-Gabe just has … all the Butterfly/Moth Pokémon. All of them. That’s it.

I can go back and forth on the identity stuff because honestly there’s- there’s no Magic to keep their Identities secret plus they probably have to register for contests under their Real Names

Yeah I mentioned Gabe looking for whatever could help wake Emilie

While the Order is protecting Terapagos, and maybe knows about a few other Legendaries, Fu’s kinda separate. Like he’s connected, but he plays the role of Pokemon Professor since he hands out the Miraculous and in this AU the Kwami are Starters

As for the other character’s Teams: I mentioned that I’m limiting them to 1-2 Types or a theme for the majority of their Pokemon. THey can have some exceptions, often their Starter as the Starters have to keep to their Kwami. SO

- Juleka’s team I need to hammer but I could either lean into the pirate rocker or go with ‘pokemon people don’t always like because she finds them Neat™’

- Luka having a music-based team is on the list!

- Fu has some great choices there lol

- I think similar to Canon, Hawkmoth (and later Mayura) are kept more in the shadow letting Akuma Grunts do their dirty work, so there’s less risk of anyone finding them out.

- Chloé will get a Vespiquen because it’s Iconic™ and I do think the Teddiursa line is gonna be her other ‘exception’ but the rest are all Fairy Types

- Markov is a Porygon!

- Kim’s team is absolutely Monkey. There’s a lot of monkey pokemon tbh.

- Not sure Mimikyu fits Mylene but she does have plenty of Mouse options!

- Smeargle and Grafaiai are perfect for Nathaniel

- Ya know when this au was first made I leaned more into just dragons but yeah all the swordfighter Pokemon are Kagami’s now.

- Did you know there’s six different lines of Grass/Ghost types? Because Rose knows! I think I do have to give her a Roserade though because ya know. Rose.

- Nathalie is actually kinda open because while she does use the Peacock, that’s more associated with Emilie so she’d be like. Borrowing Emilie’s Pokemon? Not unheard of but Nathalie’s own team can be different.

- There are also so many butterfly/moth pokemon lmao.

Bethany's Bizarre Miraculous Halloween Special

Ah, October 15th. The midway point of October, a good time for me to post my Miraculous Halloween Special idea. This is honestly pretty independent from both my Rewrite and Shift Season, because chronologically it takes in late season 3, which I determined to be in Spring 2016, but this takes place in October. So yeah. Not really canon, but fun!

The akuma plot is pretty simple. It's Halloween in Miraculous Paris, but Grandpa Rolland is pissed that an American holiday is invading France. Hawkmoth akumatizes him into the Gargoyle, Ladybug and Chat Noir fight him, you know how it goes. What really matters is the civilian plot, and what everyone is going as:

Marinette, Alya, and Nino are all going together and Chaperoning their little siblings or Manon, in Marinette's case:

Alya is Ladybug while Marinette is Chat Noir. This was Alya's idea.

Nino is Jason Voorhees.

Manon is also Ladybug, while Ella and Etta are both Rena Rouge (one of them is supposedly an illusion, I'm not sure which one,) and Chris is Carapace.

Chloe and Sabrina are also going trick-or-treating going to a secret exclusive Halloween party. Chloe is Zelda while Sabrina is Link.

Adrien somehow convinced Nathalie (who's dressed as a witch,) and Tomoe to let him and Kagami go trick-or-treating together with the Gorilla as a chaperone. Adrien is Shinji Ikari, Kagami is Utena Tenjo, and the Gorilla is EVA Unit-01.

Ivan and Mylene are also going together alongside Ivan's little sister. The three are going as Sulley, Mike, and Boo from Monsters Inc. respectively. (Thanks to msweebyness for the idea, btw!)

Rose and Juleka are going as well, chaperoning Rose's four little goblin brothers (headcanoned characters):

Rose is Ladybug (she couldn't get Juleka to be Chat Noir.)

Juleka is Killer Queen (she couldn't get Rose to be Kira Yoshikage.)

The triplet brothers are the three little pigs, while the fourth youngest brother is the big bad wolf.

Although she's not coming with them, Rose's bratty younger sister (also headcanoned) is also trick-or-treating with her boyfriend, going as Peach and Mario respectively.

Nathmarc are also going, with Nathaniel's first cousins once removed niblings (even more headcanoned characters):

Marc is going as Kyoya Otori and managed to rope Nathaniel into being Tamaki Suoh.

Nath's niece is dressed as a goat, while Nath's nephew is dressed as a chicken.

Not everyone in the class is trick-or-treating, however. Many of them are going to the school's Halloween party:

Max is dressed as Markov, while Markov is dressed as Max.

Kim is a basic sheet ghost while Ondine is a mermaid.

Alix decided to go as the scariest thing she knows: Chloe. Chloe, when she comes to the party because she's done trick-or-treating Sabrina got tired of the secret exclusive party, is not amused.

Principal Damocles is the Owl (Hoo Hoo!), Ms. Mendeleiev is the Bubonic Plague, and Ms. Bustier is inexplicably a succubus.

Most of the students are going to the party after trick-or-treating. Aurore and Mirelle are some of these students. Aurore is Hurricane while Mirelle is Snowflake (both United Heroez.)

Lila unfortunately didn't have time to dress up because she was too busy planning the downfall of her enemies and living multiple lives helping out with all her charities.

As for adults giving away candy on Halloween:

Tom is in a gorilla suit while Sabine is a nurse.

Marlena is out working this Halloween, so Otis is handing out treats dressed as a Leopard.

Andre is giving out large candy bars to the kids that trick-or-treat there. His wife wouldn't let him dress up, though.

Luka (dressed as Josuke Hishagikata,) is handing out candies on the Liberty. Anarka is dressed as Lisa Lisa.

Max's mom is dressed as an astronaut.

Mylene's dad is dressed as the mime from his performance.

Roger's busy with his job, so he left out a bowl of candy that tells you it's your civil duty to take one and only one candy.

The Agreste Mansion isn't giving out candy, unfortunately. Gabriel doesn't like the holiday.

Marinette thought of a new area for a field trip for the class to join. She was actually requested by one of the fans who has been requesting commissions on her website. About going to a museum that is in Las Vegas. Since Alya is no longer a deputy it is Chloe's job as a debuty.

"How about Zak Bagan Haunted Museum?" Marinette suggested it which gave Chloe the chills down her spine she has heard alot of stories about that museum it just gives her the chills. No one except for Marinette and Chloe knows that that museum is haunted with dark artifacts and has dark history.

If Lila starts to lie about then she would be in whole lot of trouble with the spirits in that museum. While Alya had the audacity to dragged Lila with her away from the group as for Miss Bustier who is being incompetent.

Behind the scenes Chloe send a message to the School Board about Miss Bustier's incompetent with head count and more. Some believe in ghosts like Chloe, Marinette, Kim, Nino, Ivan, Juleka, Nathaniel, Sabrina, and Mylene. But those who didn't believe in ghosts are Ms. Bustier, Lila, and Alya.

Max, Adrien, and Rose weren't with them they had a family emergencies that they had to call in sick for it.

Long Road - Chapter 12 - Coming Soon

Marinette rushed down into Liberty’s hold to meet Luka for their date. She stopped in her tracks when she saw Alix with Juleka and Rose. They all turned and waved her over.

“Hey, girls, what’s up?” Marinette asked.

“You’re just in time! Alix was about to share some amazing news!” Rose cheered.

“Oh? What’s that?” Marinette asked.

“Get this. There’s this new exhibit coming to the museum and my dad’s letting me get a look at it early before it goes live tomorrow. Mylene and some of the guys are already going to meet me there. What about you girls?” Alix asked.

“What’s so special about this exhibit?” Juleka muttered.

“Oh, right. Let me just get… here!”

Alix held up a picture of a bizarre white box lined with silver and peculiar black markings on its surface.

“Woah. Creepy,” Juleka cooed.

“It is a little, yes,” Rose agreed.

“That’s… strange. Uh, when will you be seeing it today?” Marinette asked.

“Soon. Actually, right after this. I figured I’d stop in before I went back to the Louvre. Care to join?”

“Count me in,” Juleka said.

“Me too!” Rose cheered.

“Uh, one moment. Juleka, is Luka-?” Marinette started.

“Yeah. He should be done by now. Go ahead,” Juleka said.

Marinette nodded and trotted over to Luka and Juleka’s room. She turned the corner and jumped back. Luka sat on his bed in meditation like the first time she saw him, but with a man sitting beside him with his eyes closed. She paled at the sharp, serpentine features of the man, pale skin like he was ill, black rocker clothes, and unnaturally long hair.

“S-sass?” Marinette whispered.

Sass’s eyes shot open with his snake green eyes and pupils narrowed into slits. Luka’s eyes opened as Marinette flinched and stepped back. Luka shot to his feet and approached Marinette.

“Are you ok? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Luka commented.

“Y-yeah, I’m fine. Just… surprised by Sass,” Marinette reassured.

Sass grumbled and hissed. He slinked off the bed and headed to the living room when Kaalki blocked his path.

“Hey, lovebirds! We’re getting ready to head out. Let’s go!”

“Oh, right. Hey, Luka, would you be ok with a small detour before our date? Alix’s dad is letting her see a new exhibit early and she’s invited us along with some other friends,” Marinette explained.

“Yeah, that sounds like fun,” Luka said.

“Alright! You’re coming too, scales,” Kaalki demanded.

“No, I don’t think I will,” Sass hissed.

“Oh, but you are. You know who is coming too and she’ll be very sad if you don’t show up. I wonder what she’ll do.”

Sass sighed and growled. “Fine. Let’s get this over with.”

“Oi, Mari, where’s little Velze?” Kaalki asked.

“Huh? Oh, Gimmi? She’s at home. She, uh, didn’t want to listen to our, uh, sickening lovey words?” Marinette attempted.

Kaalki looked Marinette over, then at the mini purse at Marinette’s side. She rushed at Marinette and snatched it before Marinette could react. She reached into it and pulled Gimmi from it. She beamed and tossed Marinette the purse back.

“There you are, mini Velze! Come, join us. Stretch your legs with the rest of us.”

Gimmi shot Kaalki a menacing look. She didn’t respond but phased through Kaalki’s grip and shifted into her human form. Marinette reached out for Gimmi as Gimmi navigated Liberty while avoiding the windows. Kaalki whooped and ran out after Gimmi. Marinette grimaced as she looked on, worried.

“Everything alright?” Luka asked.

“Not exactly. Gimmi has been avoiding all reflective surfaces. She won’t even look me in the eyes long either. When I ask, she doesn’t tell me why, but it’s clear something is wrong. I just don’t know what to do to help her,” Marinette explained.

“I think the best you can do is let her approach you when she’s ready. There may be something wrong, but if she hasn’t shared, she isn’t ready. Give her time and she will be.”

Marinette looked at the ground, then at Luka with a smile. “I’ll try. I’m just worried.”

Luka returned the smile and took Marinette’s hand. “It’s ok to be worried. You care for her, just like you did with Tikki.”

“I mean, I still do, but yeah, I do care for Gimmi. We clash and she’s never shy about reminding me about the reality of things, but I appreciate her for it.”

“Oi, let’s go!” Kaalki yelled.

Luka and Marinette jumped at Kaalki’s voice, then laughed. They joined the others on the deck before they headed to the Louvre. Marinette chatted with Luka along the way, but her eyes never left Gimmi as Gimmi avoided all reflective surfaces. When they approached the Louvre, Gimmi fell back behind Luka and Marinette.

“Hey, are you ok?” Marinette asked.

“Peachy. Just avoiding that,” Gimmi hissed.

Marinette turned back and saw Mylene with Longg along with Marc with Tikki, Nathaniel with Vana, and Kim with Xuppu.

“Finally, Alix! We’ve been waiting forever! You know this report is due tomorrow, right?” Kim yelled.

“You should have done it sooner, idiot,” Alix spat.

“It’s not my fault. I was supposed to do it with Ondine’s help, but everything just keeps coming up and she did it on her own. So, I’m all on my own.”

“Not my problem, meathead. Anyway, everyone read-,” Alix started.

“Sass!” Longg yelled.

Sass stopped and sighed. Longg charged at him and scooped him up. She laughed and flung him around like a doll before she hugged him and bit his arm. Everyone flinched, but he didn’t react. She grinned and put him on her back like a backpack. She joined the others as everyone headed in. Luka and Marinette took up the rear with Gimmi.

“That was… quite the scene. Have you ever seen that?” Marinette asked.

“No. Mylene doesn’t come around very often. Even when she does, she’s just meeting with Juleka and Rose, so I never see Sass and Longg interact. Still, even though he’s unbothered, I hope he’s ok,” Luka said.

“Sass is fine. I know he enjoys Longg’s bizarre affections, even if he never lets on about them,” Gimmi butted in.

“Are you saying Sass enjoys being bitten?” Luka asked.

“Yes,” Gimmi answered.

Marinette hummed as a thought crossed her mind and she smirked. “You know, Luka, I’ve come to understand that we begin to mirror our kwamis in many aspects the longer that we’re with them. Does this mean you also like to be bitten?”

Luka’s face flushed. “Ah, well, uh, y-you see, uh, I… I wouldn’t know, you know? I mean! You were the only girl I had dated before our breakup… and there was no one else. Even when we were together, we never… you know, so I… I don’t know.”

Gimmi peered up at Luka. “You’re telling me a however old teenage boy you are has never thought with his other head? Never not once?”

Luka’s blush deepened while Marinette blushed. “Gimmi!”

“What? You aren’t seriously that surprised, are you? You both are transitioning into adults. Him sooner than you. You are going to have to address the topic of physical intimacy sooner or later. Sooner rather than later. And not by these little teasing jokes you seem to think are amusing,” Gimmi snapped.

“She’s right, you know,” Sass yelled back.

“Alright, enough. Can we talk about literally anything else?” Marinette asked.

“Yes, please. I don’t want to think about my brother’s sex life,” Juleka said with a shutter.

Luka pursed his lips as his face turned bright red.

“Yeah, no one wants to talk about their likely boring, vanilla ass love like Nathan and Marc. I’d rather talk about Kim’s failing relationship,” Alix pointed out.

“Failing? Oh no! What happened with you and Ondine?” Rose asked.

“Nothing. She’s just been busy with Terra,” Kim said.

“I don’t know. Sounds like she doesn’t want to see you,” Alix commented.

“What? No. Who wouldn’t want to see me when she gets all of this?” Kim asked as he flexed.

“Is that supposed to be impressive?” Longg asked.

“Well, I mean, yes! Ondine thought it was impressive.”

“I’m sorry on her behalf.”

Kim’s jaw dropped. He was about to respond when Alim Kubdel approached them with the director.

“Welcome, everyone. We’ve been waiting for you guys,” Alim said.

Kim raised his hand. “Mr. Alix’s Dad, is this exhibit related to anything historical and can I use it for my report?”

“Of course. Come along.”

Everyone followed Alim and the director to a back room. They approached a table with the box on it. Everyone stared at it while the kwamis stood back.

“Hey, any of you feel something… off?” Fluff asked.

Mullo nodded.

“Kaalki, you brought us here for a reason,” Sass said.

“Did you, Kaalki?” Tikki asked.

Kaalki smiled and pulled Gimmi close to her. “Mini Velze, look upon the box. What do you see? What do you feel?”

Gimmi sneered and opened her mouth, but paused when her eyes landed on the box. Her eyes widened as familiar presences washed over her. Their presences were accompanied by a vile repulsion and betrayal she had never felt, but had at the same time. She knotted her brows as her pupils constricted.

“Oh no.”

Ghoul Squad: Upgraded

Hey, everyone! Sparky, here. I'm happy to announce that Ghoul Squad is getting a reboot. Some stuff will still be the same.

Alya = Mummy

Alix = Werewolf

Rose = Frankenstein

Juleka = Vampire

Mylene = Phantom of the Opera.

However, Marinette will not be a normal witch and Kagami is not a ghost. Here's the new additions to the squad.

Marinette = Grim Reaper

Chloe = Wicked Witch (Though she is on the side of good)

Sabrina = Invisible Woman

Lila = Demon

Kagami = Headless Horsewoman

Ondine = Creature from the Black Lagoon!

Lila and Chloe are good guys like everyone else, and we still have the teachers (and Giselle as the witches) and Adrien still becomes a Halloween themed hero albeit a Scarecrow. However this time, more boys are helping the Ghoul Squad.

DuPont School for Monstrous Youths Intro

What's up, ya'll? As you know, I was inspired by Sparky's Creepsters Intro from a while back to make some for our other AU's! Here's the next in the line-up! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002

("Calling All the Monsters" begins to play. The camera shows a wide shot of a gothic palatial school, before lunging forward to zoom up to the building's massive front doors.)

(A human boy with bright green eyes and messy golden hair waves to the audience with a welcoming grin, pushing the doors open and beckoning us to come inside.)

*TITLE CARD: Adrien Agreste: Monster Ally, Human Sunshine*

(The camera swings around to where a cloth girl with pigtails made of yarn and large blue buttons for eyes stumbles to a stop in the hallway, giving the audience a shy wave with one hand and sheepishly clutching her arm with the other.)

*TITLE CARD: Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Voodoo Doll: Clumsy, but cute as a button*

(Marinette jumps before gaining a fond smile as a floating, transparent girl with eerie purple sclera and chains around her limbs phases through a wall to her side. The ghostly girl looks at the audience, winking with a smile as she snaps a picture with her cell.)

*TITLE CARD: Alya Cesaire, Ghost: Paranormal reporter with a spunky spirit*

(Alya bids Marinette a wave goodbye before she finds a green arm on the floor. She picks it up with a fond shake of her head and flies down the hall. We see a POV above Alya's head as she flies, and she stops in a room where several students are dancing. She tosses the arm across the room, and it lands in the outstretched hand of a green-skinned boy covered in stitching, who is operating a set of turntables. He attaches the arm before sending a jolt of electricity into the turntables with a huge grin, kicking the tunes up a notch.)

*TITLE CARD: Nino Lahiffe, Stein Monster: Stitched together to be the life of the party!*

(We hear high, girlish laughter, and Nino sends a jolt of electricity through a cord, which we follow to a large stage, where a set of bright pink curtains opens and reveals a skeletal girl with short blonde hair and a brilliant smile, twirling around as she belts a high note, until one of her hands flies off into the crowd.)

*TITLE CARD: Rose Lavillant, Skeleton: Sunshiney singer with punk rock in her bones!*

(The boney hand is caught by a jet-black bat with a purple streaked lock of hair over its forehead, which then swoops down to the stage, transforming into a tall girl with long black hair and deathly pale skin, who gives Rose a fanged smile before taking up her bass guitar.)

*TITLE CARD: Juleka Couffaine, Vampire: Queen of darkness who's batty on the bass!

(Another bat, this one with teal-streaked bangs swoops into the room with a musical shriek, before landing on the stage beside the two girls and transforming into a boy with a striking resemblance to Juleka, who flashes his own fangs in a grin before playing a deafening riff on his guitar.)

*TITLE CARD: Luka Couffaine, Vampire: Charming and cool vamp who lives to rock!

(Wafts of steam rise up through the floorboards, and we drop downward until we end up in an old-fashioned machine workshop, where a boy made entirely of copper is working on some gadgets at a table surrounded by tools and small parts. His face lights up with a smile as he finally works out an issue with his latest invention. His rocket boots fire up as he goes to show his friends.)

*TITLE CARD: Max Kante, Steam-Powered Robot: Old-fashioned chap with a talent for tech!*

(As Max jets down the hallway, a couple of older students smirk and prepare to trip him up...only to freeze in place as they become marble statues. The camera pans around to a short girl with coral snakes in place of hair, slipping a pair of dark shades back up to cover her reptilian blue eyes.)

*TITLE CARD: Alix Kubdel, Gorgon: Daredevil viper with a stony stare and a serious attitude!*

(A frisbee cuts across the screen, catching Alix's attention. She rolls her eyes as the camera zooms to focus on a tall, muscular boy with furry arms and a wagging wolf tail, panting as he chases after the frisbee, before letting out a loud howl as he jumps into the air.)

*TITLE CARD: Le Chien Kim, Werewolf: Oversized puppy who looks out for his pack!*

(Kim catches the frisbee in his teeth, before the camera follows him racing down the hall towards a large fountain with water so deep you can't see the bottom. As the werewolf approaches, a girl with wavy red hair and scaly blue skin rises from the water, giggling as Kim greets her by affectionately licking her cheek before she gives him a scratch behind the ears.)

*TITLE CARD: Ondine Rivas, Aquatic Monster: Fish out of water with a bubbly personality!*

(A thick cluster of vines covers the screen, before clearing to reveal a beautiful and vibrant greenhouse. The giant monstrous plants are being tended to by a petite girl with thick vines for hair and bright green skin. She hums a sweet song to herself as she waters a plant's roots.)

*TITLE CARD: Mylene Haprele, Plant Monster: Gentle flower child with two green thumbs!*

(Mylene gasps as a stray vine knocks a large flowerpot over a ledge, sending the plant hurtling toward the ground, only for a large gray hand to catch it midair. The camera zooms out to show a huge, burly boy with dark gray skin and forearms covered in white fur. He sets the pot down before looking up at Mylene, his surly expression changing to a gentle smile.)

*TITLE CARD: Ivan Bruel, Yeti: A mountain of a guy with a gentle heart!*

(The scene flashes back to the main hall, which is now filled with a whirlwind of sand, which parts to reveal someone in the center of it. Posing dramatically with her arms raised is a girl with tanned skin wrapped in bandages and adorned with lavish jewelry. She smiles smugly as she now holds everyone's attention.)

*TITLE CARD: Chloe Bourgeois, Mummy: "Mean" Queen of the halls with a softer side under her wraps!*

(Chloe squawks with slight indignation as she's lightly pushed to the side, and ushered towards the classroom by another mummy girl, this one wearing a white beanie and more casual attire, who rolls her eyes fondly at her sister's dramatic antics.)

*TITLE CARD: Zoe Lee, Mummy: Egyptian princess who'll never make you bow!*

(The camera pans back to the massive sand pile, where a girl with messy ginger hair and rotting skin picks up the book bag that Chloe accidentally left behind, shaking her head with fond exasperation as she adjusts her glasses, before heading down the hall with her head buried in a textbook.)

*TITLE CARD: Sabrina Raincomprix, Zombie: Shuffler with some serious BRAAAINS.*

(The camera pans upward and zooms into a cranny to reveal a pile of treasure in a small cave alcove, on top of which a girl with bronze scales and reptilian green eyes sits with a regal poise, using a blunt stone to sharpen her large horns.)

*TITLE CARD: Kagami Tsurugi, Dragon: A regal reptile with a slight hoarding issue!*

(We zoom out of the cave and up to a high tower of the school, where a boy made entirely of granite with shaggy red hair sits, sketching the scene of students walking into the school. His expression is cold and reserved, and his eyes carefully watch for any trouble arising.)

*TITLE CARD: Nathaniel Kurtzberg, Gargoyle: Dedicated sentry with a passion for the artistic!*

(Nathaniel's stony expression melts into a soft smile as he sees another boy flying up to his perch. The boy, who has adorably big green eyes and giant grey moth wings, sits next to Nathaniel, taking out his journal as the boyfriends share a quiet moment together.)

*TITLE CARD: Marc Anciel, Moth Monster: Shy and sweet writer who's just a bit jumpy!*

(A loud holler sounds from somewhere below the two, and the camera pans down to show a tall, dark-skinned student with wild curls and thick brown fur on their forearms. With a mighty bound, they leap over the school's high walls, high-fiving several students as they enter the halls.)

*TITLE CARD: Denise Cabello, Sasquatch: Big feet, bigger voice, biggest personality!*

(Denise fondly shakes their head as they watch a boy with messy red hair and a single, large green eye in the center of their forehead bump into a wall of lockers, his head having been buried in something he was doing on his tablet. Looking up, he adjusts his large, single-lens glasses.)

*TITLE CARD: Simon O'Connor, Cyclops: Techie who says one eye is better than two!*

(The scene changes to the school's observatory, where a girl with starry blue skin and silvery pigtails is looking through the large telescope into the sky. She turns to add some notes to the star map she is making.)

*TITLE CARD: Aurore Boreale, Extraterrestrial: Straight A student from a whole different world!*

(Aurore turns and smiles as bright blue ooze begins to rise up from a grate, taking the shape of a girl with tar-like black hair and loose-fitting clothes. With a frown, the girl pulls a few miscellaneous small objects out of her slimy skin.)

*TITLE CARD: Mireille Caquet, Slime Monster: Jiggly and shy sweetheart who leaves a trail behind!*

(The scene changes and the camera is skimming along the high walls of the school, where a girl with bright yellow skin and a pixie cut made of leaping flames is doing impressive parkour stunts, leaping from surface to surface.)

*TITLE CARD: Lacey Greene, Fire Elemental: A real hothead who never turns down a challenge!*

(The screen is covered by a thick velvet curtain, which is then pulled back to show a large stage in the center of the school's vast catacombs. A rousing tune is being played on a massive pipe organ by a ghostly boy with pale purple skin and a bedazzled half mask over the left side of his face.)

*TITLE CARD: Jean DuParc, Phantom: Snazzy spirit with a heart full of song!*

(Jean smiles lovingly at a boy sitting on the body of the pipe organ, listening in content to the song his boyfriend is playing. He wears a long cloak and taps the end of his scythe on the floor to the tempo of the music, before blushing as Jean pulls out a black rose to offer him.)

*TITLE CARD: Austin Tomassian, Reaper: Showing us death is nothing to be afraid of!*

(We cut back to a hallway in the school, where a gargoyle boy with badly coiffed blond hair and clad in varying shades of purple is running with a fearful look on his face as he's holding a red cloak. The camera pans behind him and we see a student with dark curls, large horns and hooves in place of feet charging after him with an enraged snort.)

*TITLE CARD: Cosette Bellamy, Minotaur: Run the other way when they're seeing red!*

(The camera pans up to the ceiling, and we see a large collection of massive spider webs, in the center of which sits a girl with six red eyes and six arms. She holds a set of knitting needles in each set of hands.)

*TITLE CARD: Reshma Leghari, Arachnoid: Spider Lady with seriously stylish threads!*

(Reshma hears a purring sound behind her and turns with a smile to see her best friend stretched out on a ledge. Batting a cat toy between his hands, a boy with black cat ears and a feline tail gives the spider girl a cheeky smile.)

*TITLE CARD: Ismael Prisk, Werecat: Snarky kitty with a mind for mischief*

(We change to a shot of two classroom doors. A woman with a flaming ginger hair and mismatched legs knocks on the door, holding the head of a woman with purple hair. A woman's headless body comes to the door, taking the head from the other woman and placing it on her neck, before the two share a laugh.)

*TITLE CARD: Caline Bustier, Empousa & Olga Mendeliev, Headless Horsewoman: DuPont's top teachers and total mama bears*

(A bright ray of light shines in through a stained-glass window, which opens to allow a girl with glowing eyes and flaming wings to fly in, working on sketches for her latest cartoon, a bright smile on her face.)

*TITLE CARD: Ayesha Reynolds, Angel: Ray of sunshine descended from the heavens above!*

(We zoom over to a corner, where a boy with crimson skin and large devil horns sits with his legs crossed in the center of a ring of hellfire, deep in meditation. His eyes suddenly open, giving us a mischievous smirk.)

*TITLE CARD: Anthony Mathis, Daemon: Born to be wicked, but good at heart!*

(The camera zooms in the doors of the front office, where a stack of documents appears to be floating through the room. We hear the sound of fingers snapping, and a girl suddenly appears holding the papers, her limbs translucent at the ends. She goes over and begins filing the papers.)

*TITLE CARD: Dot Waverly, Vanisher: Not always all 'there', but always on top of things!*

(Dot suddenly jumps as a darkly mischievous smile appears before her, rolling her eyes as theatrical laughter fills the room. With a dramatic swoosh of her parasol, a girl dressed in a gothic kimono with three swishing fox tails appears, giving us a playful grin.)

*TITLE CARD: Eri Tanaka, Kitsune: Mischievous Yokai with a love for all things gothic and dramatic!*

(We are transported with a swish of Eri’s tails to the school’s art room, where a student with rainbow-streaked hair and large glasses is firing bolts of color from the iridescent horn on her forehead at a canvas, smiling brightly all the time.)

*TITLE CARD: Petra Markov, Unicorn: One-of-a-kind artist and true free spirit!*

(We are now in the cafeteria, where a group of students are smiling blissfully as a hauntingly beautiful singing voice fills the room. The camera then zooms in on a lovely girl with feathery wings and fish scales along her arms, singing the beauteous melody.)

*TITLE CARD: Evie Balthazar, Siren: Sweet-natured lady who'll enchant you with song!*

(Hearing the sound of hoofbeats, Evie flaps over the window, smiling as she waves and blows a kiss, which is caught by a brawny boy with the lower half of a horse, as he’s sprinting across the school’s courtyard.)

*TITLE CARD: Brecken Sutcliffe, Centaur: Big-hearted country fella who's more horse than cowboy!*

(Some older students are harassing a monster from the younger grades, when suddenly, one of them hears a loud *crunch* right behind their head, turning around to see a short but burly student with a body made entirely of stone glaring at them.)

*TITLE CARD: Roxie Richter, Stone Golem: The most hard-headed person you'll ever meet!*

(The scene transitions to the school’s chemistry lab, where a student with long pointed ears and leathery bat wings combines different chemicals into a vial, giggling enthusiastically as she awaits the reaction to occur.)

*TITLE CARD: Anais Ackerman, Werebat: Nocturnal Brainiac who's batty about chemistry!*

(In another area of the lab, a girl with strawberry blonde curls and mint green skin is stirring a bubbling cauldron as she hums a Hex Girls tune to herself, prepping a spell to help the theater club.)

*TITLE CARD: Candace Fletcher, Witch: A real Hex Girl who'll cast a spell on you...if you give her sufficient reason.*

(The scene transitions to the gym, where a tall and lean boy with orange scaley skin, spiky multicolored hair and blunt horns jumps up to score a slam dunk…only to stumble as he hits the ground again.)

*TITLE CARD: Soo-Yeon Park, Dokkaebi: Anxious bean who's a beast on the casketball court!*

(In another area of the gym, a girl with messy red hair and the lower half of a serpent sits on the bleachers, scrolling through her phone and only looking up to make a snarky (but good-natured) comment about the slip-up.)

*TITLE CARD: Staci Kwan, Naga: A snarky snake who refuses to be charmed.*

(The scene changes to the school’s shop class, where a girl with six pink tentacles and a bright smile is helping move several large stacks of wood, humming a cheerful tune to herself.)

*TITLE CARD: Margo Jorgensen, Kraken: Sweetest caecilian in the seas who will always lend a helping tentacle!*

(The scene moves back to the school’s massive pool, where a girl with messy green hair, scaley green skin and finlike feet is holding a stop watch, barking commands to the swim class she is leading.)

(The shot changes to a pan down of a huge blackboard, where a girl with shiny wire hair and polished chrome skin, the orifice lines glowing with energy effortlessly solves a complex math problem, before loading the results into her data receptor.)

*TITLE CARD: Eloise Matuidi, Hi-Tech Bot: Mathematical genius with all the latest updates!*

(The students in a nearby hallway nervously avert their eyes, hoping not to catch the attention of a boy with immaculate blonde hair woven with golden snakes. He pauses a moment to send a sharp look to the camera, pulling his pink-lens sunglasses down with a challenging look.)

*TITLE CARD: Austin Armbruster, Gorgon: An asp fashionista with a cutting remark at the ready!*

(The hallway suddenly shakes with a deafening shriek, and the present students all shoot annoyed looks at a smirking boy with messy red hair and solid white eyes, who only gives them a smug laugh in return.)

*TITLE CARD: Austin Quinlan, Banshee: A temperamental tormented spirit who'll scream the house down!*

(We hear a loud shout of anger and the camera pans over to a boy with hairy hands and large horns, who has just crushed a gaming console in his hands after losing a game…only to pull out another one and start a new game.)

*TITLE CARD: Austin Boulet, Troll: Dedicated gamer with a big hidden temper!*

(The school’s pompous principal, M. Damocles, an owl man creature, is walking down the hall and suddenly lets out a loud shout as he steps on a trip wire and slips head over ass in the hallway. The camera pans over to a laughing student with small horns poking out from her curly brown hair, adjusting his red cap with a clawed green hand before taking off down the hall.)

*TITLE CARD: DJ Detweiler, Goblin: Impish prankster who stands up for the little guys!*

(As Damocles gets up with a grumble, the scene transitions to an in-school dance studio, where a muscular boy with a cowl of hair that resembles a rooster’s crest, reptilian eyes and scaley skin performs a flawless pirouette, before readjusting his dark black shades.)

*TITLE CARD: Austin Spinelli, Basilisk: Resident tough guy with a petrifying power, so don't mess with his friends!*

(The camera zooms to the music classroom nextdoor, where a tall student with thick blonde curls, mottled green skin and large fangs belts out a window-shattering high note, smiling shyly as she receives thunderous applause from other students in the room.)

*TITLE CARD: Mindy Blumberg, Ogre: Gentle-natured ogress with a serious passion for song!*

(We transition to a large ramp set up by the school’s pool, where a student with a tall, finlike Mohawk and a shimmering fish tail is about to perform a daring jump in their wheelchair, other students watching in awe as she begins his descent.)

*TITLE CARD: Victoria LeSalle, Mermaid: 'Stuck' with a tail, but not afraid to get dangerous!*

(The camera cuts over to the school’s grand main stairwell, where a girl with wild red curls, and the lower body of a goat slides down the handrail with an excited squeal, landing with a graceful bleat and a bright laugh.)

*TITLE CARD: Lotta Jameson, Satyr: Half-goat, half-girl, all adventurous spirit!*

(From above, Lotta hears a goat-like shriek and looks up with a smile, waving to a girl doing pull-ups from the rafters. The girl has cropped blonde hair that takes a backseat to her large horns, as well as leathery black wings and cloven hooves.)

*TITLE CARD: Gia Griswold, Jersey Devil: Nothing devilish about this military brat but the horns!*

(From underneath a table, a very small student with short red hair and a tall hat steps out, flipping through various notes of incriminating info on the principal on zir phone.)

*TITLE CARD: Rochelle Weams, Gnome: This little gnome knows what's up with everyone!*

(We hear a loud whoop, the camera pans up to the rafters, where a girl with a messy blonde ponytail, reddish-brown fur on her forearms, and large sabertooth tusks swings back and forth, before leaping down with an impressive tuck and roll.)

*TITLE CARD: Kendra Anne Gunderson, Yowie: Audacious Aussie with serious acrobatic skills!*

(The scene changes to a secluded closet of the school, which is filled with shelves loaded to the brim with vials of multicolored sand. A student with short mint green hair and blackened limbs meticulously labels and organizes each container.)

*TITLE CARD: Mason Ewing, Bogey: Super organized but a bit too nervous to get his scare on!*

(The scene transitions to a bog located on the school grounds, the waters beginning to bubble. A tall boy with shaggy red hair, moss-coated skin and a prosthetic leg rises, inspecting a strange object with a technological magnifying glass.)

*TITLE CARD: Gerard Grundler, Swamp Thing: The most brilliant marsh man you'll ever meet!*

(We cut away from the school for a moment, to a nearby human town, where two teens, a fidgeting Hispanic boy and a short and stocky blonde girl are hanging a poster for a monster activism event. A book suddenly hits the boy in the shoulder, prompting the girl to whip around with a fist raised in threat, causing the harassing assholes to scatter.)

*TITLE CARD: Jesse Ortega & Missy Rutherford, Human Allies: Fighting alongside Adrien for monster rights!*

(We flash back to the school, to a hallway where several sets of students are arguing, a few about to fight physically. A girl with ragged black wings and sharp talons laughs as she revels in the chaos she’s caused, babbling nonstop to her compatriots, hidden in the shadows.)

*TITLE CARD: Lila Rossi, Harpy: A devious birdy who lives to cause misery and chaos!*

(Suddenly, Lila is silenced, a hex preventing her from making another sound. Ignoring the harpy's indignant gesturing, a blonde boy wearing a menacing Jack O' Lantern mask appears in the monsters' midst, terrifying them and sending them running, making him smile with malevolent glee.)

*TITLE CARD: Felix Graham de Vanily/Jack O' Ripper: Leader of the Anti-Monster Brigade with a draconic fixation!*

(A sort of toxic gas fills the hallways, making many of the monster students fall to their knees, holding their throats. The camera pans over to a tall and muscular boy, littered with scars and wearing accessories made from monsters he's killed. His smile is cruel and sadistic.)

*TITLE CARD: Lucien Van Helsing, Monster Hunter: The latest in a family line of murderous evil, Felix's right-hand man.*

(The villains yelp in pain as they clutch at their necks, which suddenly have sharp pain shoot through them. They turn and see Marinette, a needle pressed in the side of her neck as her button eyes are glowing, focusing her hoodoo powers on them. Through the pain, Felix manages to teleport them out of there. Marinette's partners hug her proudly, and all the monster students gather in the main hall before turning to the screen for a group shot.)

(A flash of lightning cracks across the screen, revealing the title in gothic, cursive script: "DuPont School for Monstrous Youths".)
