Summary: They’re not characters who say ‘I love you,’ so they call each other faggots (Francis Lee). Three scenes from the months after they come back to one another. Or, three ways they don’t say 'I love you’.

This was more difficult to write than most other fic I’ve ever worked on, because I wanted so much to do justice to the careful, reserved characterization of the film! The creator chose every word and scene and shot so precisely, and I tried to take a similar approach here, while also taking it where I wanted to go. This work is meant to flesh out what comes after the film ends, and how love and caring exists and grows between the two, without being overly sappy or vocal beyond what they could really handle. (Hence lots of sex, because that’s how they communicate).

Hi so I did a thing again.

It may have taken me over a year from start to finish, but I finally bound Safe by the lovely @themewsatten

Firefighter Johnny Saxby keeps to himself most of the time. When Gheorghe Ionescu arrives at the station on a transfer, will Johnny be able to hold up the walls he’s worked so hard to build around himself?

It may have taken a even longer because I decided that I wanted to paint the faux leather… (ft. My ugly yellow floors that makes one of my friends laugh every time she sees them and a messy desk)

Also used some embroidery floss for the headbands but I forgot to take pictures (whoops). The pink endpage is by nilhilistatari not quite sure who made the other art, sorry! (Found them! @sous-le-saule)

I finally finished the binding of Safe! You asked for pictures so here they are:

It took me a little while to finally get to printing an sewing, and then I decided I wanted to paint the faux leather instead of just hot foiling it.

The end pages are by (can’t find who made the first art piece anymore) & nilhilstatari.

Hope it’s a bit like you expected and again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for writing it!

So this made me ugly cry this morning. The wonderfully talented @dotsaremycomfortzone has bound ‘Safe’, my God’s Own Country AU, into a beautiful, beautiful little book. I can’t tell you how special this is. Thank you so, so much!

This might be the most successful exchange fic I’ve ever written (not saying much, since I’m usually down tiny tiny fandom holes anyway, but it got way more hits and feedback than I’m used to before authors were revealed a few days ago!) and I’m very contented with it overall.

I’ve also published in ‘Adoby’ (Adil Joshi and Toby Hamilton from the hugely underrated and cancelled ☹️series The Halcyon), Scorbus, and one story in Drarry, too. I write for a few others but I’ve never published them . . .

Most popular one-shot: My one-shot with the highest kudos is Back which is in the God’s Own Country Gheorghe Ionescu/Johnny Saxby fandom. It’s nearly at 500 kudos, which I know is small fry for a lot of the more well-subscribed writers but feels like a massive deal to me. 

Most popular multi-chapter story: I’m going by number of kudos again! To Keep You, one of my Scorbus multi-chapters, has ONE more kudo than Safe, which is my current WIP in the God’s Own Country fandom! 

Favourite story you’ve written: This is really hard to answer. I’m proud of them all for different reasons, and they’re all flawed. I have a soft spot for A World Still Turning in the ‘Adoby’ fandom because it was the first I ever published and that took a lot of courage. But because it's the first it’s probably fair to say it’s not the best. I hope I’ve got better rather than worse since then . . . I’m proud of How D’You Say because it was a challenge to myself to write something coherent in 200 words. It’s not very popular but I’m still proud of it.  

Story you were nervous to post: The first one, A World Still Turning, because . . . it was first. And all the others because I’m always nervous to post! I was very anxious about He Loves Like This because I know the Drarry fandom is massive and passionate and I was convinced I would get abuse for it. But I haven’t yet. And My Passion Tranquil, a Scorbus fic, because it was a gift for @mavis-bluemoon so I wanted them to like it! But, yeah, always nervous. 

How do you choose your titles: Various ways. It might be a feeling I hope the story conveys, or something else - a phrase or thought - from within the story. Anything. I don't have a system.

Do you outline: Yes for multi-chapters. For one-shots it tends to be more write and see what comes out, then redraft and redraft till I’m sick of it. 

Complete: 16

In-progress: Difficult one to answer. Two published works are still WIP, but I’ve got several other things still unpublished that I’m working on. 

Coming soon/not yet started: A couple more God’s Own Country one-shots in the pipeline, and a few Scorbus bits and pieces too. Several pairings in Game of Thrones that I want to publish but I’m not sure how well-received they’d be - big fandom with lots of strong opinions! I’ve also written something between Kit and Kate from the BBC comedy Upstart Crow, but I’m not sure there's much of a demand for that! It was fun, though. 

Do you accept prompts: Absolutely. Time is limited right now but if a prompt speaks to me I’ll always try to write to it, even if it takes me an age.

Upcoming story you are most excited to write: Hmm. There’s a specific God’s Own Country one-shot that I’ve only done notes for but I’m looking forward to writing it properly once Safe is finished.
