Oh, yes! I've been dying to talk about Pearl. She is extremely important to the plot, as well as a favorite of mine.

GG Pearl is a mercenary of sorts. She does whatever you ask of her for the right price, including murder if it is within her skill range. However, most of her jobs include acting as a bodyguard, helping repair buildings, spying for information, things to that affect. It is rare that she has to take a life, but not unheard of.

She never had much of a family growing up, having lost them to war and disease before the memory of their faces could even form properly in her mind. The only lifelong companion she ever had was her dog, Tilly. It was her and Tilly against the world for the longest time.

She is one of very few people who knew Grian when he was a kid. They clicked immediately and were as thick as thieves before he abruptly disappeared when they were barely teenagers, and she was left alone all over again. She only met him again once the resistance was in full swing. It was how she learned he was even still alive, the descriptions of him were too similar to be a coincidence.

She wanted nothing more than to be bitter at him for leaving her without an explanation, to blow up at him and make him feel as hurt as she had been all those years ago, but the second he offered her a place in the resistance, she caved and agreed. She just didn't want to be alone anymore.

She occasionally skips town for the odd job or another, so she isn't always around. She comes and goes as she pleases and has no real position in the resistance. She just helps where she can. She can't help but feel like an outsider because of it.

Now, you see, Pearl is very curious and nosey by nature. She can't help getting herself involved in things that do not concern her. So, naturally, she had to go see what the deal was with her friends so called "rival".

And how did she do this? By breaking into the castle, of course. Well, not all the way in. She planted herself right on the wall of the training grounds and waited. Gem tried to attack her at first, but Pearl said she just wanted to watch and that made her hesitate. Gem was skeptical and warry, but somehow Pearl's innocent smile was enough to make her let her stay. And so, stay and watch Pearl did.

Her little break-in only served to make her more curious, though, so Pearl showed up every day at the same time to watch Gem train. It became part of both of their routines. Soon, they began to talk during these afternoons together and formed a quick friendship. Pearl never told Gem much about herself, only the odd story from her travels/childhood, and Gem never pried.

Pearl never intended to befriend Gem, it just sort of happened. Now she is stuck between two worlds, unsure of what to do. She loves Gem, thinks of her as her best friend, but she's loyal to Grian on grounds of their history together. She tries to tell herself that it's just curiosity that keeps her going back to that stone wall, but it's a flimsy lie at best.

Grian thinks she only goes to Gem to get information. Impulse and Scott think she is just a girl from town who Gem befriended (though Scott has the sinking feeling he's seen her before...).

Pearl isn't sure how long she can keep up either of the facades she has built up: an uncaring informant, and a harmless town girl. Neither of them are who Pearl is, but she's afraid that letting either one go would result in her losing either Grian or Gem. She couldn't handle either of those, no matter how much she tries to tell herself she could.

Wifies has been working on the loom for hours. When Parrot got up this morning, he helped Wifies collect wool and flowers. Wifies thanked him with a kiss on the cheek and disappeared to the back of the house to work. Parrot made them both lunch and lured Wifies to the kitchen with the smell. His hands had been mottled with dyes by then, splotches of green and orange and purple, and even a smudge of cyan under one eye. Parrot had cleaned it off for him with a wet rag, and Wifies just smiled and thanked him.

The sun is setting now, and Wifies is still out back, working on the loom. Parrot knocks on the door of the small room he’s claimed. Wifies pops his head out of the doorway, eyes fluttering in the darkness.

“Yes?”

“Wifies, it’s getting late,” Parrot says, leaning against the wall. “What are you even doing?”

“Ah, I didn’t even realize! I’ll be right out.”

He shuts the door in Parrot’s face and Parrot rolls his eyes, but waits. It only takes a few minutes for Wifies to exit, dye still clinging beneath his nails.

“Parrot,” Wifies says severely. “I’m working on a special project and I need you to promise that you won’t peek.”

“I won’t,” Parrot says, sticking his pinky out. “Promise.”

Wifies hooks their pinkies together with a pleased smile and that’s that.

. . . Except this special project takes up all of Wifies’s free time for the whole week.

Parrot isn’t going to break their promise, but he’s deeply curious, and maybe a little deprived of Wifies’s company. Sure, he’s got things to do too, enjoys their quiet downtime just as much, but it’s hard to not miss Wifies even though they’re in the same house.

He’s sullenly polishing their swords when Wifies comes looking for him.

“Parrot!” he calls out, appearing at Parrot’s side like a ray of sunshine through winter smog. “I’m all done with my project. Come look at it!”

Parrot places the sword down and follows Wifies to the back of the house. The room he’s been weaving in is stuffy, filled with so much wool and dye and string that Parrot sneezes as he enters. There’s a neatly folded bundle of cloth on the work table that Wifies picks up and holds tight as he turns around.

“I don’t really know what to say now,” he says with an awkward smile. “But I made this for you, so. . . I hope you like it?”

Wifies opens the cloth up and holds it aloft, disappearing behind a wall of color.

“That’s my feather pattern,” Parrot realizes. His wings flutter in response. “That’s— you replicated my wing pattern! On a cape!”

Parrot runs his fingers over the fabric, feels the softness of it, traces the blends and blurs of color.

“This is incredible, Wifies,” he says.

“Thank you,” Wifies says, but he still sounds nervous. “There’s one more thing.”

“More?!”

“To the cape that is.”

Wifies turns it around, the immaculate dye job still evident on the inside. There’s one anomaly though— the image of a single violet feather speckled with black and white. It’s on Parrot’s right, meaning that if he wears the cape correctly, it’ll rest on his left side, behind his heart.

Wifies is silent behind his curtain of fabric. Parrot sweeps the fabric aside to see him, only to find him looking down in wait.

“Wifies,” Parrot says gently. “I love it. I’m going to wear it everywhere. Thank you.”

Wifies smiles. It’s a little wobbly, but he folds the cape back up and hands it to Parrot.

“It’s all yours.”

Parrot takes it and places it back on the work table, throwing his arms around Wifies and hugging him tight. He’ll more than gladly take a piece of Wifies with him wherever he goes.

Grian met Scar on a hot, hot summer day.

He and Mumbo had been chasing rumors for months at that point, holding onto every whisper that they could of a man with unnatural eyes and an uncanny smile who brought death with him wherever he went.

They finally got ahold of something substantial just as they were beginning to lose hope: a location. They followed the tip to a tavern at the edge of a small village in a neighbouring kingdom, out of the way and hard to find. Just as what was likely intended.

They spotted him almost immediately, his appearance, as well as the magic that emanated from him, both unmistakable. He was sitting at the bar surrounded by a group of men, dramatically telling a story while he leaned up against the counter with a mug in one hand.

Mumbo was fearful and hesitant, but Grian held no such feelings. He marched right up to Scar and interrupted him mid-sentence, all but demanding that he speak to him in private.

Scar was too amused by the bold display to turn them away right off the bat, so he agreed to talk and followed Mumbo and Grian out. He barely payed any attention to Grian as he explained that he was the leader of a resistance and that he needed Scar's help in order to bring the crown, and those who controlled it, to their knees.

Truth be told, Scar had initially planned to kill the two of them for being so bold and pulling him away from a good time. He was long past his time of messing with mortal affairs, the last thing he cared about was their silly little resistance. He had simply wanted to get a little more amusement out of the two of them before disposing of them, but then Grian showed him something that changed his mind.

In Grian's sweaty palm was a small silver brooch in the shape of an eye, and from his mouth came an offer. "Help me, and I'll help you" is what he told him.

Scar had smiled, all teeth and cruelty, before accepting the deal with the shake of a hand.

They took an oath the same night they left the village together. A deal bound by magic, unable to be broken by either of them until the day that their goals were reached.

Thinking Abt Fausts traveling era.. especially if any families or people he's helped have ever offered him a place to stay after helping them. Of course he always rejects kindly (next patient is always waiting) but on rare occasions he might say yes. Maybe the storm is too bad outside or snowy or he Really hasn't gotten anything to eat for a while and well. Suppose one night of roof and food wouldn't hurt huh? He'll leave Inmidietely in the morning anyways.

Tries to be nice but feels a bit awkward always. You know like when you feel you don't wanna ask much of someone? Like that at all times. If there's young kids he'll laugh w them and such but doesn't do much outside of eat dinner, sleep in a cushion too small for him n leave before anyone else's awake.
