yeah sorry jean vicquemare apologists and likers me personally im never forgiving him for lying about kim’s condition post tribunal. like you can headcanon harry forced him to do all the work (which is proven false by canon but thats another post) you can say harry deserved everything that happened to him because he was a piece of shit to jean but you cant deny that telling harry his partner is dying (who he is clearly shown to care a lot about) when he’s okay is incredibly scummy and manipulative.

the game makes sure to point it out that jean is full of shit. it makes sure that you know that kim is safe and in no danger of dying (the yellow sign which in medical terms means its serious but not immediately life-threatening, the fact he can sit up and talk and drink water). he straight up lies to your face about something as serious as your partner being in danger just so he can make you feel bad. fuck you jean vicquemare i hope you step on a landmine and explode

SMILES. orv is Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint! it's a webnovel with an ongoing webtoon adaption and it is making me Fucking Crazy. basically the premise there's this really unpopular really long webnovel called Three Ways to Survive an Apocalypse, and for years, Kim Dokja has been the only reader. when the novel finally ends, the author sends him an email with the txt file of the whole novel, and then suddenly the novel is wiped from the internet and in that instant, the events of the novel begin taking place in Kim Dokja's world. the apocalypse begins and humanity is subjected to cruel scenarios and challenges livestreamed for the entertainment of these powerful entities called constellations, and as the only one who read the story to its end, Kim Dokja is the only one fully equipped with knowledge of how this story goes (or at least, how it originally went)

it is SO good. it lures you in like "ooh this is a normal reverse isekai" and then ends up being CRAZY. it deals with questions about the boundary between characters and Real People and whether that distinction really matters, and it's one of those stories that looks the audience dead in the eye and dares you to look away first. literary devices are made Real (oh fourth wall we're really in it now...) and it plays with narrative voice and pov and unreliable narration in such fun ways. it is ultimately about the value of stories and the value of being a reader and the choice to wrestle with the story that's been written for you in favor of the story you really want to tell. it's also about Kim Dokja having something Deeply Wrong With Him skdlfjlksdjf the journey i went on with him was "okay he's a reader insert who reads novels as escapism, i get it" -> "oh actually he has something wrong with him" -> "oh he has something Wrong With Him" -> "WHAT. WHAT THE FUCK. HELLO. WHAT WAS THAT." I'm obsessed with him.

I read the webtoon first which I think is a pretty effective onboarding point! some of the art had my jaw on the FLOOR it's so cool. the webtoon has adapted roughly the first third of the whole novel so far, and if you want to read the novel just dm me and I'll hit you up with the epub file lol (not just mike but anyone who is interested!)

Porchay can’t stop thinking about it, that sweet, wonderful kiss in the studio. He can’t stop wanting more. Kim’s lips had been so soft and warm against his cheek—what would they feel like against his own? 

Kim takes him home that night. They pick up dinner on the way. Kim spends the entire drive looking lost, his eyes open and nearly dazed, like he can’t believe what he’s done. Chay can’t quite believe it either. But he can still feel it like a brand against his cheek. 

Kim kissed him. 

They don’t talk about it. 

Chay wants to, desperately—wants to ask if they can do it again—but Kim looks so scared and skittish, Chay’s afraid of chasing him away. So for once he keeps his questions, and his hands, to himself. They have an uneventful dinner. They wash and put away the dishes. They sit together on the couch playing guitar until they settle back into a comfortable familiar rhythm. 

“P’Kim?” Chay finally asks, laying his hand against the vibrating strings to quiet them. 

“Hmm?” 

Kim is making that face he always does when they play. Soft and warm and content. It’s the most relaxed Chay ever sees him. 

He wants to ask Kim to kiss him again, but he doesn’t think Kim would appreciate it. He’s learned by now that Kim communicates through actions, not words. Questions make him nervous. 

So Chay leans in—not far, they’re already almost shoulder to shoulder—and presses his lips to Kim’s. They’re just as soft as he remembers. Kim makes a quiet sound in the back of his throat, and his eyes go wide, and stay wide when Chay pulls back with a bashful little smile a second later. 

“Is that okay?” Chay asks. 

Kim just watches him. Right when anxiety is climbing into Chay’s throat, and he’s thinking he shouldn’t have done it at all, what was he thinking—Kim gives a small nod. Barely tips his chin towards his chest, but it’s enough. 

Porchay lays his guitar aside, on the floor beside the couch. It means he has to lean across Kim, who leans back to give him room, and respectfully keeps his hands to himself. Chay doesn’t. The second he releases the neck of the guitar, he puts his hands on Kim, on his shoulders, and leans in for another kiss. Kim expects it this time. He returns it.

I’m upset that succession only took a little bit of inspiration from festen instead of stealing everything from it— like yeah they got the same shaky camera, the dramatic life changing speeches, fucked up sibling relationships, insane family drama but… we didn’t get to see roman roy beat the shit out of logan in front of his family and that’s why I think festen will always be superior
