5.4.22 Lunchtime drawing: “Early Wednesday Afternoon” after an Edward Hopper painting at the Whitney Museum, I was a chaperone for my daughter’s class’s field trip there today and the theme was NYC. So fun to hear the kids talk about what they see in the art “houses on top of the store fronts,” and “barber shop pole,” and all the kids picked up on the fact that there are no people in the painting. Hopper’s Early Sunday Morning is said to be buildings on 7th Ave in the West Village, and today’s sketch, also on 7th Ave in the West Village.

It's funny how a chance meeting can lead to an unexpected opportunity. Just over a month ago we went over to McBeans for the first time and met Rose, Tom and some of the team. Two weeks ago I was asked If I knew anybody that could exhibit their work in the gallery space there during the Lewes Arts Festival. With limited time and a bit of help from Paul the Farmer I have dived in and decided to show my Sussex Landscapes. I went over today and have hung the show. There's lots to see, as well as large paintings I also have small paintings and pastels too. I will be using Mc Beans like a studio space on some of the Saturdays and have to chance to rework some of the larger work. The Festival begins next weekend 11-26th of Sept. Loads to see in and around the area and you might want to come over, say hello, enyoy the amazing Orchids, the space and the Pizza oven. Very pleased with hang. I can't remember when I started this canvas and what the original layers looked like, but I reworked back in June and it's been in the hallway since. Everyday I passed it I saw problems with it and each day I was finding more and more. Where one convinces oneself its OK when it's first painted time often reveals the cracks. So it was inevitable that I had to repaint it all again. Not sure if the new layer is an improvement but, once again, time will reveal that.
