fun tidbits from this week's Data over Dogma:
arguably, marriage as such doesn't exist in the Hebrew bible. there is no Hebrew word for "husband," "wife," or "marry." not having special words for "husband" or "wife" isn't that unusual (modern German doesn't; Old English didn't; "wife" is just the OE word for "woman," plus some semantic drift--even "groom" has its roots in a generic OE word for "man"), but i think not having a particular word, or even description of a ceremony of marriage, is kinda odd by modern standards. yet there are plenty of historic cultures without elaborate institutions of marriage/weddings, where nonetheless the sex act creates the expectation of a sexually exclusive relationship. you might say they just have a much weaker formalization of marriage as we understand it. but of course the way marriage is discussed in the Hebrew bible makes it even clearer than late antique or medieval or early modern conceptions of marriage that insofar as it was institutionalized, it was institutionalized for the purpose of 1) making sure men got to get their dicks wet, and 2) paternity was ensured by converting women into property. which is why it is very, very funny whenever somebody tries to talk about the "biblical conception" of marriage, which you can be very sure looks very different from even traditionalist, fundamentalist conceptions of marriage.
it's even funnier if they cite the NT, because the NT is pretty clear that procreation is not a concern, bc Jesus is about to return and end the world. paul's idea of marriage is, "well, if you really are such a slut you can't be celibate, get married and have just enough sex to keep a lid on your sluttiness. you better not fucking enjoy it." moreover, the bit in the gospels about "some are eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven" may well not be metaphor--it might literally be an injunction to chop your balls off if you really want to be a good person! it gets read as a metaphor bc, well, very few people were willing to do that. but evidently people castrating themselves to control their slutty urges was common enough that the council of nicaea a few centuries later had to be like "seriously, knock it off."
#they do not mention if there is a special biblical hebrew word for divorce#or what its etymology is#i would have been interested in a philological discussion of that point

babe i hope you don't get mad at me. i totally understand and appreciate his decision to represent turkiye. after all he never got a proper conversation with german representatives/ they didn't take him srs enough to consider him.
i wish he can openly talk more in turkish without getting laughed at and can bond more with his team mates. the accent is gonna be naturally heavy and the only one's fault is his daddy's. no need to make fun of something he wasn't thaught in. the memes were too much for me personally cz i know how annoying that is with german as the second language.
i know he is only 19. he has showed what he can do against ger nt and at juve but there was minimal interior by him in this competetion. i do not expect him to pull a prime ronaldo and score even once at every match. but it's a fact that he has not created the same amount of attacks as baris alper. he missed lots of opportunities just like the remaining young attackers.
kerem, samet also got lynching. and let's not kid anyone, his face card gives him an advantage among young women. the coach should have given semih a chance so he would not be targetted because of his formation. montella's decisisons were questionable anyway.
I’m definitely talking about the crazy abuse he’s received. Obviously, I’m saying it wasn’t his best performance, and yes, he made a lot of mistakes, but I’m seeing people verbally abuse him, send death threats, want to physically harm him, which doesn’t make it okay whether he did good or bad.
we all saw the game yesterday, and can pick apart every single thing. kenan had his chances, but missed- at the end of the day, it just didn’t happen, we didn’t win. we can’t baby him obviously, I’m saying have some grace and be mindful.
It’s happend, and it’s done, talking shit about the players who gave their all is absolutely unnecessary..
I’ve seen so many other also get crazy hate, especially players like cenk, kerem, mert m, altay and especially samet in the other game. In my post I’m talking about kenan only, because the anon was about him..
About his Turkish, we all know the only person is to blame is his father, who didn’t bother to pass down a huge aspect of Turkish culture.
He’s said himself that he holds back on speaking the language because others make fun of it. Culturally, german born Turkish people are made fun of for their accent.
We can have a whole cultural dissection of how wrong that is, and how it holds people back from speaking their own language. (Something I’ve also experienced myself) many other players like Ferdi, aren’t 100% fluent in their Turkish, and I get that.
as a person also born and raised in the west, my Turkish isn’t incredibly fluent as well, even though we visit home every single year for two months straight.
though I’m confused about what his ‘face card’ has to do with my post. All I’m saying is the hate is too much. his outside appearance is honestly giving him more hate at the moment, can you not see how people are tearing him apart for fixing his hair once or twice?
we can go on and on about montella’s choices and the ref (that got on everyone nerves), but nothing will change.
I understand where you’re coming from, and definitely agree with some of your points.
they’ve all done incredibly well, and we should honestly be proud of them, not go around and verbally harass them. football culture has its own problems, and that one is a huge part of it.

As a German I am so glad that our nt is now back again to WIN after they have embarrassed us to death especially during the men's 22 World Cup and then the womens World Cup
And as a Greek who would literally die for the German NT, I'm glad we're getting our shit together but the match against Switzerland really scared me 😭
And now we're playing against the best *objectively* nt... I can already feel the anxiety taking over my body.
I hope the squad gets possessed by 2014 Germany because I will not be able to handle us not being in the final.

Isn’t the German league pretty competitive? Wolfsburg, Bayern, Frankfurt and Hoffenheim they are all pretty good. And others too. Wolfsburg and Bayern both lost a game and dropped points this season. It has perhaps the longest history of any women’s league in Europe. Big player pool in Germany, long tradition of women’s football. All of the players in the German national team were developed there, and all but 1-2 of current NT players play there. It just goes under the radar a bit more than the WSL because most media about it is not in English. That makes it harder to follow closely outside of Germany. But they keep on producing good players. Wolfsburg and Bayern are two of the best teams in Europe.
It's definitely gotten more so in last year or so

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about the situation with the Danish NT and Viborg! I'm from nothern Germany and I was at the game between Denmark and Montenegro last year in Viborg. It was a lovely trip and a cool experience, but like you said the stadium was really empty beside the main blocks. And the drive with the car felt quite long and the public transport situation isn't that good so unfortunately I don't think that many people from Germany will come to the next game.
Do you plan to go the game in Germany against Denmark in Rostock? Despite they tried to choose a city which is more up in the north, the situation with public transport is poor from other areas in Germany and for the Danes it will be of course more difficult.
I'm really curious to see how the the nations legue will influence the attendance numbers in general. Unfortunately I have currently the feeling that some decisions from some countries won't help. Which I think is really sad after we had seen with the world cup what could be possible in women's football.
Yeah I also highly doubt a lot of Germans will, also since it’s on a friday. I think that’s one of the downsides to having a specific stadium to play in, it would make sense, like you guys are doing, to move the game closer to the border to get a better energy over all but it’s hard when it’s set in stone
I really want to go to the Germany away game and will if there’s some transportation offered from DBU but as you say public transport down there is a hassle and I don’t have a car (or a license) but i’m hoping to go! I’m glad they at least moved it further up and I think there is some plans about busses being available like with Malmö also considering Rostock is closer to CPH than Viborg
I really am too! There seems to be such a different reception already, as you say some countries aren’t doing enough, while others have almost sold out without there being much promotion overall. I think countries like Scotland, Ireland and Wales will benefit most from this World Cup on home soil but that’s mainly due to the women’s football fever spreading to them and they have some very high profile players from the WSL too

English football fans seriously makes my blood boil, the more I hear about the England vs Denmark game.
GROWN, ADULT MEN harassed, threatened and even fought/attacked some of the danish fans during and after the game. EVENTHOUGH ENGLAND FUCKING WON!!!
What kinda fucking sick person do you have to be to follow a family out from the stadium and then threaten their little girl, a WHOLE child, with harm??
I don't care that Denmark lost, so to hear so many people gloss over the general behaviour of the fans, as if we're only complaining because we lost, is so incredibly annoying.
#i would like nothing more than to let this game go and forget about it#ive made peace with our loss#but then we keep getting new details of english fans being fucking *******#the thing with the little girl almost dont shock me after seing soooo many english men calling a crying german girl#pigs#and this isnt even touching on the fact that violence against women raise after a national team win/loss/draw#england nt#denmark nt#euro 2020
