The Sweet - The Ballroom Blitz 1973
"The Ballroom Blitz" is a song by British glam rock band The Sweet, written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman. The song reached number one in Canada, number two in the UK Singles Chart and the Australian Chart, and number five on the US Billboard Hot 100. It remains an enduring favourite, with more than 90 million streams on Spotify alone by the end of 2022. "The Ballroom Blitz" was inspired by an incident on 27 January 1973 when the band were performing at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock, Scotland, and were driven offstage by a bottling. The song appeared on the US and Canadian versions of Desolation Boulevard but never appeared on a Sweet album in the UK, other than hits compilations. The initial guitar and drum riff of the song has similarity to a 1963 song by Bobby Comstock called "Let's Stomp".
An early cover of "The Ballroom Blitz" was by the Les Humphries Singers in 1974, the first German single to reach #1 in New Zealand. The Damned covered it in 1979, which featured Lemmy from Motörhead on bass guitar, and Tia Carrere did a cover on the soundtrack to Wayne's World in 1992. In 2020, industrial metal band 3Teeth released Guns Akimbo, a two-track set that included a cover version of "The Ballroom Blitz", which was previously featured in the 2019 action comedy film Guns Akimbo.
"The Ballroom Blitz" received a total of 84,2% yes votes!

Because Spotify doesn't really know that much about my listening habits and because I enjoyed writing this kind of post last year I'll once more make a post about my ACTUAL musical favourites this year. So here goes! Album time!
Grendels Sÿster: Abstieg in die Traumkammer (2024, heavy/folk metal) -- This was by far my favourite album of the year. It came out this August. First album by the band, and what a debut! The album has an English version too (which you can also find if you click the link), but I vastly prefer the German one. The lyrics are really excellent and they fit so, so well with the character of the German language. Musically I would say they sound like "early Týr with a female punk singer", the lyrics feature retellings and re-imaginings of various mythologies and mythological themes of the world, ranging from Norse to Greek to (on their EP) Hinduism or even Tolkien's Valar. They once called their genre NWONOEM (New Wave of Nerd-Oriented Epic Metal).
Other albums I liked, in no specific order:
Kornalyn: Intemporel III (2024, folk) -- Kornalyn has been at this for a few years. He's a French anarchist and folk musician who records modernized versions of traditional leftist & worker songs. He's versatile, he's talented, he's got spirit and a great voice. Worth checking out whether you're a comrade, a history enthusiast or a folk fan.
Alice Longyu Gao: Let's Hope Heteros Fail, Learn and Retire (2023, hyperpop) -- Okay, I'm versatile too. Or at least not so set in my ways that I can't appreciate different genres than I normally listen to. Alice's hyperpop songs have a chaotic artistic spirit that I find charming. In a way, some of her songs are pretty metal-ish too - they remind me a little of old SOAD songs. She's funny, she's innovative, she's a delight.
Stonefield: The Light of Lies (1990, prog rock) -- Some awesome prog rock from the 90s. The singer sounds like DIO. If you like the hammond organ, CLIK TEH LINK! If not, click it anyway, you may start to! When I tried to find out which year the album was from, I found their EP The Eyes of the Dawn (1989), which is also so fun.
Alvader: Hereniging (2024, folk metal) -- Hey you! Do you like Heidevolk? If you found this post through the folk metal tag I bet you do. In this case definitely listen to this band. It's made up of ex-members of Heidevolk and sounds a lot like the "original".
HammerFall: Avenge the Fallen (2024, power/heavy metal) -- What can I say about this one. It's HammerFall. It rules by default. It sounds like all their other albums. HammerFall are one of the few bands where that's a compliment.
molllust: In Deep Waters (2015, symphonic metal) -- There is no music I like better than symphonic metal that takes the "symphonic" part really, really seriously. molllust are one of the few bands that do. Between Janika Groß's gorgeous orchestrations and her operatic voice, this is one of the bands that give me hope for the genre. At first I actually found their older stuff too inaccessible, but after I listened to the newer and more straight-forward Mother Universe album a lot last year, In Deep Waters became a lot more approachable to me.
Wintersun: TIME II (2024, Extremely Delayed Technically Complete Symphonic Death Wish Metal) -- I still can't believe my eyes, or ears. Am I dreaming? Is this the real life? It's really out! And Nuclear Blast didn't even give it a digibook edition (I have the one of TIME I and thought I might have a matched set one day). Is this because their corporate overlords don't care about physical media or are they just so DONE with the album, and Jari in general, that they didn't make more of an effort out of spite?
Norrsinnt: Djupt inni skoga (2024, folk metal) -- Somewhere between heavy folk and very folky metal. A collection of songs the artist released individually over the past years, but the album only came out a short while ago. He fortunately seems to have decided against using an AI image as cover art in the end, so I don't feel bad listing this album here. Oh, there are albums that I found this year and liked musically which I'm not listing for this reason, definitely! I'm glad this one isn't among them, because I've known all these songs for years and I'm quite fond of them, and of the power and originality of the vision behind this project.
Nightwish: Yesterwynde (2024, symphonic metal) -- I didn't expect too much from this album, but ended up really liking it! My favourite parts are, of course, the orchestral passages. I like how Nightwish are still capable of evolution, new paths, instead of being stuck in the 2000s. And, after all, what could be a more fitting topic for music that's as larger than life as symphonic metal than just the totality of existence, the universe, the human equation, the meaning of it all?
Romuvos: Spirits (2024, folk) -- Pagan Folk, immersive, meditative, dark. I don't have much to say about this, other than that I have listened to it a lot this year.
KAMIJO: ??? (????, symphonic power metal) -- I usually only have albums on this list because I'm old-fashioned like that, but that's really unfair to Kamijo, who's my top artist of the year on Spotify and whose greatest songs are spread out across a multitude of single bonus tracks and short EPs. So I will link his song TEMPLE and say doumo arigato gozaimasu, vampire prince rockstar-san, nay, -sama!
---
I also continued my exploration of the world of opera. Since I think I'm beginning to know my taste, there were a lot of works I started and didn't finish, but some I liked very much. My favourite was L'elisir d'amore (1832), which I watched in two different versions and listened to all summer. It's a rather light-hearted one, but the music is nevertheless dramatic, it's fast, it's powerful and... somehow rich. And it's just pretty, I'm not immune to the charms of the easily lovable Italian opera, or of Rolando Villazon and his musical and comedic talent. I'd definitely recommend this recording even to people who have never watched an opera before.
I also really liked Eugene Onegin (1879, can't find the recording now) - much more tragic than the one above, few operas I've watched had a better plot, I read the novel it's based on afterwards - as well as a whimsical 1979 recording of L'incoronazione di Poppea (1643) and a gorgeous staging of Atys (1676, only French subs here, sry). Baroque opera is superior to the later stuff according to me. The beautiful music, the melancholic observations on life in the libretto, the way the operas always seem to reach for the divine, beyond the limits of mundane human existence - it strives for perfection, and my ears think it comes close.
And that's my musical breakdown of the year :)

SHENANIGANS: where Mai gives headcanons to the Voices in your Head™️ based purely off vibes.
This episode: THE VOICES AT KARAOKE!
((So begins...whatever this is. This is purely dependant on my boredom so we'll see how far this goes. Have a Connie as a prize for reading
Tumblr media
Now without further ado...:
VOICE OF THE HERO: The one that is shy to sing but when pushed to sings, she knocks it out of the park. Probably sings whatever popular song is on right now, no specific preference. Awkwardly stands in place as she sings, with lil hand gestures.
VOICE OF THE SMITTEN: The good singer that everyone expects to knock out of the park and no one is disappointed. Probably tries to get people to sing with them or clap, but few actually do. Love songs are top priority. He will dance around the stage.
VOICE OF THE SKEPTIC: Is more content with judging than being judged. But proper probing will get him going. Slow jazz are his vibe but he ends up listening to the song and forgets about singing. He stands in the middle, not moving at all.
VOICE OF THE CHEATED: She was so eager to prove that she could sing. The machine broke before she could start. By the time it's fixed, the mood is gone. Would have loved to sing some classic rock, if she got the chance to. Spends the rest of the night grumpy and eating snacks.
VOICE OF THE PARANOID: Nope, nope, nope, nope, he is not moving from his chair. Too much pressure! Blues is his favorite.
VOICE OF THE STUBBORN: he is putting his entire spirit into this song as if this is a fucking rock concert and not a karaoke room. The song he picked is heavy metal, and mostly screaming. Nobody can understand a word he's screaming. Probably tried to dive off stage and faceplants on the floor.
VOICE OF THE BROKEN: Same as Paranoid but if peer pressured enough, she'll get on stage. Will give it her college try, but she is not that good. Anything slow and smoothe calls to her. Since she doesn't like moving, she'd sing in her seat.
VOICE OF THE COLD: He'll get on stage, then he just...sips his mug through the whole song. He doesn't care enough to pick a favorite so he randomized it. Obviously, no moving.
VOICE OF THE OPPORTUNIST: He said he has a good voice, but when pressed, he'll try to get out of it (saying someone should go first, etc...). But a few stiff drinks later, he can get on the stage. He can actually put that money where his mouth is. Surprisingly picks country music, for whatever reason. (Probably because it's got a nice beat to dance to, which he does when he gets into it.)
VOICE OF THE HUNTED: No one thought he would want to sing, but he did. Buuuuut...it's some song in German or something that no one can understand, so it's hard to tell if he's doing some secret mating call, or he's cursing them out. Also sings where he's seated
VOICE OF THE CONTRARIAN: always the last to sing, after everyone's exhausted and just about ready to pack it up for the night. If her loud and annoying (albeit good) singing didn't woke them all up, the music will. She always picks something upbeat and fast paced, mainly to flex how she can sing it with no mistakes. Can and has gotten others to sing with her (mainly Opportunist and Smitten as back up singers).
BONUS: SHIPPING~ (which voices will sing in pairs)
Smitten and Opportunist: normally they wouldn't. But a drink or 2 later and they're dueting the cheesiest and/or gayest love song in the shuffle.
Cheated and Broken: Broken felt bad Cheated didn't get to, so she offered to duet with her. They ended up harmonizing quite well together and Broken is loud, when she is back up.
Hero and Paranoid: Hero wanted to encourage him to at least try. Ended up singing the majority of the time, but Paranoid starts getting into singing together, by the end. The nervous one is pretty good with a rhythm ;).
Cold and Stubborn: Cold's non-commitment has NO SPACE here!! They're here to have fun, and DAMNIT they will!!! Stubborn sings the loudest song he knows, Cold in his arms. I don't think he noticed that Cold's not actually singing.
Smitten and Hunted: Hunted does good humming for some of the hymns Smitten knows. So they are surprisingly good together.

Because one person asked…here is what music I listen to besides Ghost!
Some have a connection to Ghost though hehe
(German Edition)
In no particular order, under the cut because it’s long!
1) Nachtblut
Genre: metal, maybe gothic metal if that’s a thing?
Songs to listen to: Multikulturell, Lied für die Götter, Leierkinder
Notes: the lyrics are cool but you might have to get used to this particular style of music, they love critiquing all religions, I saw them live and they were great (singer has the most stunning black hair I have ever seen in real life by the way)
2) Die Ärzte
Genre: Rock, Punk
Songs to listen to: Junge, Schrei nach Liebe, Zu Spät
Notes: I grew up listening to them, they are really popular in German speaking countries
3) Mavis
(German band but they sing in English)
Genre: metalcore I think?
Songs to listen to: DNA, Reflections, Isoto
Notes: they are not so well known but definitely deserve more attention, they are great live
4) Lord of the lost
(German band but they sing in English and German)
Genre: Metal, Rock, Gothic, Glam?
Songs to listen to: Blood & Glitter, One last song, Six feet underground, Satans Fall
Notes: The singer Chris Harms is featured in Mad Gallicas ‘Souls on fire’ Go listen to that! Also they are one of the most entertaining bands I have ever seen live. Only the ghost ritual made me dance more than their show (one person circle pit for the win lol)
5) Alligatoah
Genre: rap, hip hop? I have no idea actually because I don’t usually listen to these genres
Songs to listen to: Willst du, Partner in crime, F**k ihn doch
Notes: as I said this is a total outlier to what I usually listen to, but I also grew up with his music. He also collaborates with many interesting other artists such as Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit and Mille Petrozza from Kreator
6) Kreator
(German band but they sing in English)
Genre: thrash metal
Songs to listen to: Satan is real, Hate über alles
Notes: I don’t think I have to say much, they are well known in the metal community.
Have you all seen the video of Terzo doing backing vocals for them and dancing with a nun on a German tv show?
7) Heaven shall burn
(German band but they sing in English)
Genre: Metalcore, Melodic Death Metal?
Songs to listen to: Black tears, Protector, Voice of the voiceless
Notes: I love their political messages, saw them live and even though there were so many mosh pits and crowsurfers I felt really save and the band always keeps their eyes out for the audience and stop songs if necessary
And a lot more that don’t need explanation like Scorpions, Powerwolf, Helloween

I said I'd stop eurovisionposting but one thing that bothers me is everyone saying Blood and Glitter was a version of Rammstein (either gay or cheep or something). Firstly, completely different genre and vibes. Blood and Glitter is like classic heavy metal meets glam rock/gothic metal, like a love child of Iron Maiden and HIM, while Rammstein is industrial metal. They are just saying that because it's metal and German and the singer has low voice, but like that's where the similarities end.
You know what was a version of Rammstein? Käärijä. Cha Cha Cha is basically Rammstein mixed with Finnish electro pop. There's the industrial heavy beats and the monotone menacing singing. This is not just speculation, he is a huge Rammstein fan (the tattoo in his chest is a Rammstein tattoo) and he said the biggest influence to his performance was Till Lindemann, the frontman of Rammstein. If you've ever seen Till Lindemann perform, it's super obvious.
Käärijä did the Lindemann expression I affectionately call the dead fish expression. And tongue is also typical part of Lindemann performance. Not to mention like the suggestive doggy style stuff is like standard affair in the Rammstein live performance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Till Lindemann also dresses up in weird and wacky colorful costumes when performing. And at points in time he has had pretty similar haircut as Käärijä now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In couple of decades Käärijä can probably get the dead fish expression as dead and fishy as Lindemann lololol

ppl stop writing for Heisenberg... how about our magnetto man with a punk/alternative SO??
OUHHHH yessssss!
pairing: Karl Heisenberg x GN!reader
{{note: I generally write REVillage fics Post-canon/alternate universe, assuming Ethan and rose, Mia etc. never existed sry XD}}
Warnings: swearing, brief mention of gore, very mild sexual themes
Tumblr media
Ohoho where do I begin?
Karl when he first spots you is... intrigued to say the least.
You weren't like the others, you dressed differently, acted differently, and most importantly... you weren't like the other villagers, blindly following and worshipping Miranda!
Now, Karl being Karl... he thought about pulling his usual BS about "I'm a metal lord, fear me!" but quickly decided against it; not wanting to scare you off or anything. Especially since you didn't seem local, therefore not knowing who the fuck he is.
{and pshhh don't tell anyone i told you this, but despite his huge ego... he might not actually want you to know who he really is at first. So he'll try his best to act "normal" and as human as possible}
After he finally approached you and engaged in a regular conversation, he quickly finds himself craving more.
Long story short, he seeks you out in the village again the next day, inviting you over to his factory because... he didn't really have a house. Anyway, he wouldn't show you what he actually does in there... you two will be in his office on the first floor, he ain't taking you down into the actual factory until he is sure you won't freak out.
This "friend meeting" (totally not a date ͡ ° ͜ʖ ͡ °) goes smoothly surprisingly. He'll ask you about your tattoos and/or piercings, scars etc. {if you have any}.
After a long-ass conversation about all kinds of shit, he'll just ask the question we've all been waiting for.
"So buttercup, you... eh... one of those emos?"
Time for the explanation between emo, goth, punk, rock. Two minutes into this, Karl stops listening... he got his answer.
You listen to heavy music.
And so does he.
Start talking about Metallica, Slipknot, I prevail, Rob Zombie, ACDC, black sabbath, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold, hell.... even SOME my chemical romance and Seether- and i promise, you'll get his attention piqued!
Especially if we're talking german bands such as "Rammstein" or "Die Toten Hosen" and he'll just... scream internally?
Like first of all... there's someone who also hates mother miranda besides him, they are funny, hot AND love german bands?!
SIGN HIM TF UP!
Needless to say, you two started a relationship quickly.
Despite needing to make his huge ass metal army, he takes a day off to make a bigass stereo...
{and then later that day Lady Dimitrescu complains about the loud ass music coming from his factory that even SHE and her three girls can hear from her castle. lol. Heisenberg tells her to shut the fuck up}
His huge goal is obviously to kill miranda... and then after escaping this shit village together with you. When the day comes, you two will celebrate with flipping off Lady supersized bitch and rolling off to a concert
{which likely isn't a good idea... imagine Karl wanting the microphone from the singer or something. You be chillin and there's just... a floating microphone... you be like... "Karl? what are YOU DOING?!" meanwhile Karl just has a shit eating grin as the crowd screams}
But let's not jump to far into the future...
Right now, you two are stuck under Miranda's disgusting-ass thumb.
Dark times man. It's shit, but whenever you waddle into his office whilst he's working... just y'know... get your phone out and play one of his favorite songs!
This man will {depending on his mood} shoo you away, or most-likely drop what he's doing and just... *grab* you and start juming around the room like monkies in a moshpit.
Once the song finishes, his hand will move from cupping your cheek, to cupping CHEEKS. Just him seeing you rock out to his favorite songs... is enough for Karl to get all hot 'n bothered. So expect some bending over the Work-bench and nice grindin' whilst 'Closer' by nine inch nails plays ;)
EXTRA:
if you like steampunk
this
man
will
just...
Scramble to collect little gears and screws... making little earrings, rings, necklaces etc.
also
stud bracelets.
OH
and if you like wearing chokers
be careful
that awakens a beast within him
"oh ho ho buttercup! What do we have here? Want me to attach a leash and make you *my pet*?

Music I think COD Zombies Ultimis characters would like in the modern day because I'm bored
Richtofen: Obligatory Rammstein mention because he's German. I feel like he'd like some of their songs, along with other popular neue deutsche härte metal bands like Eisbrecher, Oomph, Stahlmann, etc. I think he'd like the upbeat party rock sound of something like Pussy, or some of Rammstein's darker songs like Heirate Mich or Ich Tu Dir Weh for obvious reasons. He's also a cheesy pop music enjoyer (from a variety of countries) because for some reason the mental image of him smoking a cig covered in zombie viscera while listening to Britney Spears feels oddly on point. In general I don't think he'd like overly slow or melodramatic songs - he's got a very childlike mindset that scoffs at the thought of someone choosing to listen to music that makes them sad.
Dempsey: I feel like he's got the taste expected of a modern day American dad. He likes 70's - 90's American rock (given his in-game patriotism he probably thinks this is like, the epitome of good rock music) and maybe some country because listening to country songs about eating sandwiches and watching the sunset reminds him of simple family life. Probably likes metal too, any angry or energetic song that's supposed to get you pumped up. But I also think he's the kind of guy to try and Pavlov himself into liking music he doesn't like just for the sake of saying he likes it. Also very self-conscious about the music he likes that isn't good for the look he's trying to go for. Dempsey is a secret Babymetal enjoyer
Nikolai: Probably likes anything he finds easy to listen to and vibe with. His taste ranges from industrial metal to 2000's Russian pop music (ie. Katya Lel). Can't listen to any of this music without commenting on how pretty the female singers are. Unlike Dempsey he's very comfortable with his music taste. Probably listens to Babymetal with Dempsey. He also likes drinking songs. Of course
Takeo: A really old man at heart. The kind of person who primarily listens to classical music and complains about all the "filth the young people are listening to" despite not having completely innocent media taste himself. I see him as being very into dramatics though, so he probably enjoys a variety of romantic or depressing-sounding music. If you pushed him hard enough to give it a chance he'd probably enjoy DSBM to some extent.
As a side note, it's fun to think of all the ways they could annoy each other in the modern day. I imagine Nikolai sneaking something very lewd into Takeo's playlist to fuck with him so he's listening to it on shuffle one day and it goes straight from Saburo Moroi to Ice Spice

Hi Shark. I was wondering if I could be cheeky and request something from you. I was wondering if you could release a headcanon for Heaven with a list of fun facts about her (i.e. fave food, color, animal, vacation spot, book, song, drink...if she went to university what d'you think she'd study that kind of thing). She's just so interesting that I'd like to know more about her. Also, I read a fic she was mentioned in the other day and I thought you'd be interested. It was just a mention but I thought it was cool. Also, I can't wait for The woods whisper part 2. I'm on edge.
Hi sweet anon, thank you so much for your wonderful ask! As for the fic, please do send me the link. I probably have it in my reading list if the mutual has tagged me but I reckon I need to catch up with a lot of things. I've been feeling quite tired lately and I’m starting a new job as a bartender so it's quite tiring. I’m delighted you find the murderous angel interesting so here we go. 🖤

♢ Her favorite animals are hyenas. She dreams about owning one?? She’s weird asf I know.
♢ I personally imagine her voice like the singer of Sohodolls (by the way, this song from the group is her main theme song)
♢ Surprisingly enough her favorite color is not white, but red and gold.
♢ She's multilingual and speaks: French, Russian, German, and English all fluently.
♢ She's 25 at the beginning of HYE, even if throughout her life people struggle to give her an age since she has this very woman-child aspect.
♢ Her style is quite modern for the era. When she doesn’t wear elegant and revealing dresses with gold jewels, capes or fur coats, she loves stealing one of Arthur’s shirts and tuck it in her skirt. Similarly, he had to buy a second coat ‘cause she had stolen his. Most of the time she either dresses like a goddess or a forest nymph.
♢ She loves fun fairs and circuses! When they started flirting together and meeting at church every night, Arthur sometimes brought her candied apples.
♢ She might be an enchanting singer and she might love music but she's awful at playing an instrument. She tried piano, guitar, harp, and violin but she was terrible at all of them.
♢ She has empathy issues she hides quite well. Now, I’m not saying she has 0 Empathy but she lacks of it most of the time except with Arthur or on a few occasions. It leads her to be cold and sardonic with people outside of her private circle when she doesn’t “mask”.
♢ Did someone said “lemon pie”? She’d kill for lemon pies. It’s her favorite dessert of all time.

WITHIN TEMPTATION's SHARON DEN ADEL Guests On 'Labyrinth' Single From Ukraine's BLIND8
Tumblr media
Ukrainian band BLIND8 has released a new song, "Labyrinth", featuring Sharon Den Adel of Dutch symphonic metallers WITHIN TEMPTATION.
This collaboration is a landmark moment for BLIND8, which formed just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has become a leading light for rock music in its homeland whenever circumstances allow. They will be joining WITHIN TEMPTATION as the opening act on their "Bleed Out 2024" European tour this autumn, playing arenas across mainland Europe and the U.K.
The song is also being released worldwide via WITHIN TEMPTATION's own record label Force Music Recordings.
Sharon comments: "'Labyrinth' is not just a song; it's a testament to the enduring power of music. And even with Roman, the singer, and Ihor, the bass player, currently having been mobilized and in training for the war, BLIND8 continue to defy the odds, proving that even in the most challenging times, art can shine a light in the darkness."
BLIND8 remain committed and hopeful of spreading their message of solidarity, perseverance and defiance across Europe at the end of this year, playing to their largest audiences yet in huge arenas, when they support WITHIN TEMPTATION. The musicians have said that this song is their testament to the fact that even in the darkest times, music has the power to inspire and unite people.
WITHIN TEMPTATION will embark on a huge arena tour of Europe in the autumn of 2024. Joining them on this tour will be both WITHIN TEMPTATION's recent collaborative artists and longtime friends: singer Tarja Turunen (on select dates),German metalcore band ANNISOKAY, BLIND8, GREEN LIZARD and Ukrainian producer and vocalist Alex Yarmak.
The tour starts in September with two shows in The Netherlands (that sold out within days) and will continue throughout Europe in an array of impressive arenas. A number of dates have already sold out, with tickets running low across Europe.
Last fall, WITHIN TEMPTATION co-sponsored the Ukraine Aid Operations boat fundraiser for the Ukrainian Marines. They donated 6,000 euros for 30 patches, which they packaged with a limited-edition box of their latest album, "Bleed Out"
Four months ago, Den Adel spoke to Metal Musikast about WITHIN TEMPTATION's music video for the band's "A Fool's Parade" single, featuring Ukrainian producer and vocalist Alex Yarmak. Recorded amidst the streets of Kyiv with renowned Ukrainian video director Indy Hait, the clip captures Sharon at important Ukrainian landmarks. Asked what it was like to make a music video in the capital city of a country at war, Den Adel said: "Well, I was never scared to go there, because I was in good hands, to my opinion. We were helped to do this video and to organize everything, what we wanted to do in Kyiv, by the organization called Music Saves Ukraine. And they told us about the app that you had need to have. For instance, if you go into Kiev, which we did by night train from Poland, because there's no commercial flights from Amsterdam to Kyiv anymore. So we had to go by night train from Poland to Kyiv. And they told us to download an air-alerts app because everyone in Ukraine has that, and you can select a region that you are in and any incoming dangerous drones or airplanes, like MiGs, who are carrying a supersonic bomb or anything, they will put that in the app and you know what the danger is and how much time you have to go to a shelter. And there's shelters everywhere, even in the hotel that I was. And we once had to go underneath the metro station, because there was a MiG on their way. And sometimes it has a bomb, sometimes it doesn't. It's sometimes just looking and scouting where they can do something with the next airplane. And this time it wasn't wearing any supersonic bomb, which was good for us because it can wipe out a complete area in a matter of seconds."
In March 2022, WITHIN TEMPTATION was one of the artists who took part in a telethon concert in support of Ukraine. "Save Ukraine - #StopWar" united more than 20 countries and bring together more than 50 participants. The marathon was broadcast from Warsaw on the Polish TV channel TVP. In addition, broadcasters from many countries around the world rebroadcasted the marathon on their local channels. The "Bleed Out" album was released last October.

When Ambie proposed to Bal, Bal was like : "Hey, I was going to propose to you too"
Nims, Bal and Amb suffer from PTSD after you know what. (✨traumatised family✨)
Once Amb got in a hitted fight with Todd, after Todd was talking shit about Bal
When Bal has emotional damege he goes to Amb and cries in his shoulders (Amb cries with him sometimes)
Bal and Amb are good singers (I hc that, as I love their va's singing voice. Just listen to this or this
Skiping to Nimona - Many people make headcanons about her real gender indenity, sexuallity, her acttual pronous and let my tell you what I think - Nimona is... Nimona and you gotta respect it

#Did you know that this is a cover?📌
"But we all often glorify the former, not knowing that we glorify only the latter..." (Part 2)
"Gangsta's Paradise"
Tumblr media
But here the cover is clearly better than the original. Although the original is good, because it was composed by none other than Stevie Wonder back in 1976. Yes, the song "Gangsta's Paradise" did not immediately become a harsh rap. At first it was called "Pastime Paradise". To the same string part played on a synthesizer, Wonder sang about social problems (segregation, isolation, exploitation) and that one should not dream of paradise, but do everything to bring it closer.
youtube
However, in 1995, rapper Coolio took over the song and, together with his sidekick L.V., composed his own lyrics to the same tune - this time about "Gangster Paradise". The text came out angry, sarcastic, hopeless and fit very well into the film "Dangerous Thoughts", dedicated to disadvantaged teenagers. However, at first Wonder did not give permission to record the cover, demanding to remove obscenities from the text. Coolio fulfilled the requirement. After that, "Gangsta's Paradise" became the best-selling single of 1995, and probably the most famous rap of the 1990s.
youtube
«Over The Hills And Far Away»
Tumblr media
The Northern Irish guitarist Gary Moore once performed not only blues "slowies", but also martial hard rock. Listen, at least, to his 1985 hit "Over The Hills And Far Away", recorded together with fellow countrymen - the folk group The CHIEFTAINS.
youtube
This song experienced a rebirth in 2001, when it was covered by the band NIGHTWISH. The author himself was not enthusiastic about the cover of the Finns - they say, nothing new - ordinary karaoke. You can't argue with this, although Tarja Turunen's pseudo-operatic vocals still deliver…
youtube
«Das Model»
Tumblr media
Without exaggeration, the members of the RAMMSTEIN group can be called brilliant compilers of the German musical heritage: from hard metal and industrial to electronic music and even eurodiscoe. Unsurprisingly, in 1997 they paid tribute to the KRAFTWERK band by recording a cover of their song "Das Model".
youtube
The song was first released in 1978 and was a classic KRAFTWERK electronic composition with lifeless vocals and a mechanized rhythm. RAMMSTEIN added brutality and harsh guitar riffs to Das Model, but the authors didn't like this version.
youtube
«Stripped»
Tumblr media
Another tribute to RAMMSTEIN was paid by recording a song for the tribute album of the British synthpop band DEPECHE MODE "For the Masses" (1998). The choice fell on the song "Stripped" ("Naked"), in which natural beauty was contrasted with the urban landscape. The song became a track on DEPECHE MODE's album "Black Celebration" (1986), and was also released as a single, which reached number 15 in Britain.
youtube
RAMMSTEIN made a very decent version, without spoiling the original at all. But it caused a resonance not so much by itself, but thanks to the scandalous clip. After all, archival footage from Leni Riefenstahl's film, shot for the 1936 Olympics, held in Nazi Germany, was used there.
youtube
«Tainted Love»
Tumblr media
Surely there will be those for whom the song "Vicious Love" is associated with the "scarecrow" Marilyn Manson. But it became a worldwide hit in 1981, performed by another synth-pop duo SOFT CELL.
The song has been waiting for its hour for a very long time - since 1964! At first, composer and producer Ed Cobb wrote it specifically for his ward, the aspiring black singer Gloria Jones. However, "Tainted Love" was pushed onto the second side of the single, and no one noticed the song (however, as well as the song on the first side). But even in the original recording it sounded great - it was such a very energetic soul with a memorable rhythmic hook.
SOFT CELL made the song a new electronic arrangement and slowed down the tempo, which made it sound more menacing. Also, due to the fact that the original was sung from a female face, in the line "I gave you everything a girl can give", it was necessary to replace "girl" with "guy". As a result, according to the apt remark of one critic, "Tainted Love" began to resemble a song by an "offended homosexual." Nevertheless, Gloria Jones herself praised the cover, saying that she liked it more than her own version.
As for the 2001 version of Marilyn Manson, there was nothing special new there. Except for a more sinister performance and a clip with vicious girls.

it's now time for...
music recs from beyond the grave!
a series in which i yap about my latest discoveries
Lunatic Soul
Solo studio music project of Mariusz Duda, lead singer of the Polish progressive rock band Riverside, Lunatic Soul's dark musical atmosphere evokes this intense feeling one can experience at twilight. There's something quite mystical about it, as if the winds and the mountains were whispering in your ear.
From the album Walking on a Flashlight Beam (2014):
Eastern High
This Swedish metal band's progressive approach can sometimes be reminiscent of Aether Realm's sound, although I feel it has a more mystique spirit — if that's even possible. Let's just say, as a Ghost fan: there's something in Swedish music that makes it impossible for them to make anything but bangers (I don't think this can be proven wrong).
Today's recs are from their first album, Garden of Heathens (2017). The first one, Afterglow, is the last song in the album (yeah, I like doing things the wrong way round). It is quite atmospheric, with almost ethereal vocals and clear acoustic guitar sounds.
The next one, Bottled Insanity (the first in the album, ha!), goes harder: with heavy guitar riffs and deep growls in the middle, it is quite reminiscent of melodic death metal. There is a notable contrast between soft and heavy passages, which I appreciate a lot. I find that the guitar solo is bleeding through very nicely. Side note: the chorus feels very solemn — which is a plus in my book, considering the vibe of this song.
Cellar Darling
A Swiss heavy progressive folk rock band! This trio was previously part of Swiss folk metal band Eluveite, and decided to embark on a different path — one free of any creative limits.
In their first studio album This Is the Sound (2017), vocalist Anna Murphy's powerful voice, combined with the rich sound of her hurdy-gurdy and heavy riffs, manages to throw you into a mystical experience. You'd almost expect Morgan le Fay to come out of the nearest bush, belting this song.
They also covered Queen's The Prophet Song (in 2018). Here, again, Anna Murphy's vocals are pure delight to the ears.
Zaho de Sagazan
This French singer-songwriter made a splash by covering Bowie's Modern Love for the opening of the Cannes Film Festival 2024, as a nod to Greta Gerwig's nomination as the jury's president. During this performance, she threw herself into the music — as she always does on stage — and invited us all into her world of electronic music.
She declared falling in love with the German language later, although she did study it in high school. From this, she decided to cover the famous song 99 Luftballons, by West German band Nena.
Zaho de Sagazan is hypersensitive, something that brought her a lot of trouble as a kid. But, “One day [she] discovered music, and [she] realized that by crying over [her] piano did [her] a lot of good, it didn't hurt anyone and above all it gave pretty songs. [She] realized that what [she] thought was [her] greatest flaw in life was ultimately [her] greatest quality”. From this discovery, the song La symphonie des éclairs (literally “The symphony of lightning”) was born.
Aaaand I've hit the hellsite's limit for Spotify integrations... Which means, without any surprise, that I'll continue these recommendations in another post (depending on this one's reception). I hope you enjoyed listening to all of these, as much as I've enjoyed writing about them!
Have a nice day, and don't forget to feel the music!

Led Zeppelin fun facts that you may not know!
Stairway to Heaven
The band's most famous song was not originally intended to be released as a single.
Robert Plant
Plant was the third choice for singer in the band. He warmed up his voice by singing Elvis songs.
Jimmy Page
Page first appeared on television in 1957 on a BBC talent show. Elvis Presley's song "Baby Let's Play House" inspired Page to become a guitarist.
Band name
The band's name caused trouble with a descendant of Ferdinand von Zeppelin, the German inventor of the rigid airship.
Sound
Led Zeppelin is considered to be one of the originators of hard rock and heavy metal. Their sound combined acoustic folk, hippie mysticism, and power chords with high volume and distortion.
Influence
Led Zeppelin inspired many bands, including Black Sabbath and Nirvana. They were also among the first to experiment with Indian and North African music.
Chart performance
None of Led Zeppelin's 16 singles reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Their highest-charting song was "Whole Lotta Love" in 1969, which reached number four.

Sonic Seducer - September 2004, interview with Till and Flake - part 1
Thanks to ramjohn for the scans!
For a long time it was quiet around frontman Till Lindemann's scandalous, muscle-bound troupe, who completely cut themselves off from current music events after their last album 'Mutter' and, apart from the DVD 'Lichtspielhaus' at the end of last year, didn't let anything be heard of themselves.
But from July 26, the Berlin Neue Deutsche Härte flagship rockers will break their strict news ban with their single 'Mein Teil' and the fourth album that will follow at the end of September, in order to once again put the tolerance limits to a hard test after their abstinence and in domestic bourgeois idylls again blowing the deer antlers, cuckoo clocks and dusty Spitzweg oil ham with their bombast metal from the oak paneled walls.
Rammstein are back — with a vengeance! For a good year and a half, singer Till Lindemann, drummer Christoph Schneider, keyboarder Christian 'Flake' Lorenz, guitarists Richard Kruspe-Bernstein and Paul Landers as well as bassist Oliver Riedel have holed up with regular producer Jacob Kellner to work on Album number 4 (whose ultimate title at the time was not 100% certain when this issue went to print, after having already discarded working titles such as 'Reise, Reise' or 'Das rote Album') to go into group dynamics intensively, to collect oneself and to discuss the impatiently awaited successor to the controversial one in Stockholm, completely undisturbed 2001's chart-busting ‘Mutter’ to work. The fact that a lot has happened in the meantime with the notorious Provo Rock pyromaniacs from the Spree can now be clearly heard on the first single release 'Mein Teil', with which Rammstein, after numerous heated discussions, settled for artistic freedom , good taste, piety or political views in the past once again best recommend as probably the most controversial and most polarizing German band of the hour: In the usual ambiguous manner, 'Mein Teil' invites you to a macabre feast, the source of inspiration from the sensational cannibal murder trial of Rotenburg is fed in the middle of last year. After its successful general overhaul, the battleship Rammstein is once again tackling all existing conventions and moral concepts - and it's not just musically that you shoot out of all guns, as Till and Flake, who lined up for the six-eyes talk, make clear in great detail in our multi-part interview.
However, the Berlin command center is not aware of any concerns about finally breaking the bank with his calculated taboo. Fire free for Rammstein: "I wouldn't expect anyone to get upset about 'Mein Teil'. Making a song about something that really happened is the most normal thing in the world to me! Nobody complains to the spokesman for the Tagesschau either, what horror reports he reads again”, says Flake indignantly. "Of course people will get upset again — whether I understand it now or not," Till Lindemann, in the past rather reluctant to be interviewed, also intervened. “With the last album, the headline in BILD was about us: 'Disgusting - dead baby as record cover! This band should be banned!' I was really happy about that and thought for the first time: We've really made it... I think there will be something really, really bad to read about us this time too... “ (smiles). And even with songs like 'Mein Teil', 'Daila Lama (Fear of Flying)' or 'Amerika' the chances of a respectable repeat success in terms of page 1 scandal band are more than good. Since the release of the 1995 debut 'Herzeleid', the blameless average citizen has had a highly allergic reaction to the distorting mirror held up by the widely misunderstood metal satirists and will presumably also react to the new tracks about plane crashes, the Iraq war or masturbation of any kind of humor or Traditionally closed to sarcasm. Entertainment or derailment - as with all uncomfortable artists, the crucial question, the answer to which each listener must be left to themselves against the background of great art. “Actually, you can go just a little bit deeper into the subject matter of the individual songs, read the lyrics or take a look at us, you can't misinterpret Rammstein - unless you're really really stupid!” “Or malicious,” adds Lindemann. “I very often have the feeling that Rammstein is dragged through the dirt with spiteful superiority! I do not know why. There is absolutely nothing to misunderstand with us.”
Such discussions have been held too often and for too long in the past, against more or less unfounded accusations, false suspicions and nasty slander, for one to still feel any great desire today to explain oneself and one's texts to the masses like a mantra . Although, as in the case of some of the content on the last album, this seems to have been a matter of urgency for some. Rammstein is undoubtedly one of the very few German/German-singing bands whose lyrics and forms of expression make you reflect and question them, as Till Lindemann's very own (thought) world and lyrical expressionism are not always easy to understand; the quirky, deep black humor and latent sarcasm are not always immediately apparent and misunderstandings seem to be inevitable. “Many will once again not understand it and will be terribly outraged at us... But you simply cannot change the world, and so we don't care anymore! Let them get upset with us as much and for as long as they want!” That the relationship between Rammstein./. While the general public is irreparably shattered, Flake also has to admit: "One example: I don't like Daniel Küblböck either, but I would never scold him or call him an asshole or a spasm. He gives me no reason to get upset with him and no one forces me to listen to his music either! That's why I can't understand why people complain about us — we don't force anyone to listen to our records either! If people don't bother to find out what our songs are about and if we possibly do things, then they have no right to judge us!”
“It's getting on our nerves so much now, talking about these stories over and over again, discussing it, evaluating everything... - our success simply proves us right! However, the fun stops at these malicious things: If the press writes things that we didn't say, or cuts our statements together incorrectly, then there's a bomb in the leg, as is well known, someone must have noticed that painfully (a few years ago Rammstein played on at a festival, they 'pranked' the then MTV program executive by tying him to a chair and tying a smoke grenade to his leg because the TV station had spread falsehoods about the band). That's just the last thing for me, you just don't do that! Then the journalists should just pull something out of their fingers and write about us in their newspapers and just leave us alone! But if you meet face to face and it is then distorted or lied to afterwards, then it's on the mouth!” Unmistakably clear words from Till Lindemann, who, however, cannot really deny that the cultivated middle-class household shock effect has always been a more or less important part of Rammstein's artistic identity.
With the tongue-in-cheek to sarcastic anti-USA song 'Amerika', they venture into completely unknown territory for the first time; This time, Rammstein pull the manic national pride and the almost totalitarian American Way Of Life hysteria of the American throwaway culture through the cocoa in an almost cabaret manner.
In the past they repeatedly emphasized that they wanted to do without deeper messages in their songs, but this time they seem to be making an exception. “We don't transport a message in 'Amerika', but state facts and facts in a slightly sarcastic way. We dealt a lot with the Iraq war at the time of writing the song and felt that now was the time to say something about it.” Flake adds: “Everyone is quite outraged by the lyrics and asks us how dare we suddenly say something about politics. (laughs). We tried to make a song that sounds very positive and beautiful at first and which is also in a little bit of English so that Americans would be happy! We look forward to the moment when Americans think they're being courted and that Rammstein also ended up writing an anthem to America and that everyone — even Rammstein — would end up loving it now. We think it's a great gag, since anyone who listens to the song more closely will immediately understand what the lyrics are actually about. When it comes to the live implementation of 'Amerika', I could very well imagine that we will drop a few bombs, you could do a great job here with pyro and airplanes...” Rammsteiner-style humor, with many a politically correct joker saying this this time too Laughter should get stuck in your throat...
But it gets even funnier: The second part of our big Rammstein interview will follow in the next issue! No animals had to suffer for this photo session. It is a photomontage.
