i can fully understand the gripes with certain misogynistic tropes/writing issues that are present in the execution of some of cersei’s writing, but i will never understand the “she should have a redemption arc” or “she should be more likeable/less morally dark” perspective. that is not what her character is or has to be to make it great. wanting more female anti-heroes or “redemption arcs” with moral greyness and complexity of the level that asoiaf gives to primarily male characters is entirely understandable, but do some of you people even like cersei as a character, like at its core? like this is not about criticising the execution of certain things when it comes to this character, this is about taking issue with her as a villain fundamentally, which i just do not agree with at all
#i also do not understand why she is juxtaposed only w her brothers#in this respect#like if u wanna take issue w not as many female anti heroes that r allowed the level of true moral greyness of j theon etc i get that#but thats a whole text problem like a family isnt a monolith they r different characters with different drives its not a competition between#them#all three r dealing w some very very diff things too like they r distinct characters#and i honestly dont think cersei’s character set up works with a redemption story like she specifically is way more interesting as she is#she is a discussion of tropes when it comes the ‘female villain’ and u can take issue w the execution but i like the concept a lot#like she is written the way she is for a reason why do u want her to be a different character entirely#like if u want this why not advocate for george making a female character whose story would actually work with the redemption trope instead#of making their writing weaker and less trope busting#ig i just really like with cersei the idea that her being an evil perpetrator doesnt erase her being a victim of misogyny and vice versa#like i like that challenge that she is deserving of sympathy for these things without the need to redeem her or make her ‘likeable’#patriarchal violence will affect all women#and the story deserves to work just as well with someone u r not supposed to root for#its about the humanization of these people#evil doesnt exist in a vacuum#and it makes perfect sense that these specific systemic conditions create it#and then perpetuate it

#shadows of fear#return of favours#single play#horror tv#classic tv#thames#1971#jeremy paul#kim mills#george cole#caroline blakiston#jennie linden#robin ellis#after a short burst of strong episodes‚ this series hits a wobble; it's not that this is terrible or anything‚ it's just a little#muddled and‚ like the first ep‚ feels overly drawn out at 50 mins (and would probably have worked better in a 25 minute slot)#the story (Cole surprises young lovers using his flat for a tryst without his knowledge‚ his strange behaviour from that point leading them#to suspect he has killed his wife) is pure old hokum‚ but not without promise for this kind of mildly 'horror' themed anthology#(tho again like the first eps this would be better described as suspense tv rather than horror). it's stretched too thin‚ though‚ and#drags itself to an ending that only raises more questions than it answers: SPOILERS INCOMING for this obscure and 50+ yr old ep of old tv#Cole hasn't killed his wife but plans to. he does once the couple leaves then engineers the return of Ellis so that he can frame him. but#it won't stand up for a second? as Ellis repeatedly yells at the end of the episode‚ Jennie L is just downstairs and besides the#circumstantial evidence that Cole sets up‚ there's nothing about the supposed murder by Ellis that makes sense. he doesn't even know the#wife‚ he has no motive. also Cole has a bandaged hand all through the ep which he menacingly unwraps at the end to reveal.. nothing#he was wearing it to avoid fingerprints ig? but... why? why not just wear gloves? idk it all feels a little silly and a little#underwhelming in its conclusion. fun cast tho.

ive been thinking about it a lot and while I haven't come to my full conclusion yet (i fear i won't be able to till i finish the show) i think damon is a lot like frank churchill. charming, attractive, judgy, manipulative and his secret sorrow. stefan is more difficult to do but gut instinct is saying edward ferrars. so like which one austen likes more is up for discussion still I suppose but edward ferrars does marry elinor at the end so (spoilers) @cctinsleybaxter

the ballad of john and yoko is such an evil song (affectionate) i genuinely love it so much
#the personal reason#well it's a long story but the tldr is that a girl in my sophomore year friend group two-timed two guys in our dorm#(in that she was hooking up with both of them without telling the other) and also we all lived in a house-dorm of 35 so we all. were very#familiar with each other#and one of the guys was a super senior/masters student and the other was a sophomore and also in our friend group#full disclosure my account is biased but he was suuuuper into her and took her out on a bunch of dates and was rly sweet#while the super senior was insanely rich and kind of a dick and did none of that beyond sleeping with her#there was a biiig blowout fight the one week i wasnt there which culminated in the girl locking herself in the bathroom and the super#senior banging on the door and screaming at her#and then. she ended up dumping our friend and dating the shitass super senior#and we all told her like hey....this guy rly isnt good for you we care for you and he's been treating you like shit#and she was like idgafffffff#and. to their credit they're still together lol props to them but she kinda got dropped from our friend group because of the whole shebang#anyways. the super senior was a HUGE beatles fan and would caption all his ig photos with lyrics#and he posted a pic of the two of them dressed in all black and turtlenecks with 'the ballad of john and yoko'#and now as a beatles understander i realize how fucking insane that is. and also they will never be Them it's infuriating in that regard too#also the fact that the bassline is soooooo present like that one quote aboht george choosing mot to participate because 'it's the ballad of#john and yoko' not 'the ballad of john and yoko and george'. ignoring that paul was Right There with them in da stu#insanity. what a good fucking song

ok so poll time:
I may have messed something up in the store shifter au.
I have a story that’s set after Dream learns how shifting works and is back to his normal life (its this one but tw for v*re) but my issue with it is that it doesn’t mention George at all when it probably should. When i wrote that i was like “oh yeah he wouldn’t be introduced in this part” but now i’m stupid and have backtracked.
There’s gonna be a next part to the story where Dream shifts for the first time, but i planned to put George in around this time. Then he’s a part of helping Dream learn his new normal and stuff. But then it makes no sense that he’s not mentioned in the linked story, which happens after all that. Idk what to do and i can’t finish my stories till i decide.
