Class Favorites: Albums That Needed More Time Or Came Out Too Late To Be Official Favorites
General Note: Y'all know albums that I don't have physical copies of are more likely to end up here and that is what it is.
__________________________________________________________________
Placement/Intention by Watsky
So what had happened was.... In preparation for what probably would be my last Watsky show, I went and binged his last 3 albums: Complaint, Placement and Intention, with emphasis on the last two, so I wouldn't look silly at the concert and ended up not dedicated enough personal time to any one of them in particular. It was a failure on my part, however I did not look silly at the show and Watsky ended up being one of my top 5 artists of the year. That's all fine and dandy, but I truly do need to give these albums more attention than just treating them like I'm binging for a test. There's great stuff in here, that I've been bumping even before 2023. I know I will fall even more in love with this whole body of work, that I'm so proud of, if I literally chilled with them. I now have Complaint and Placement on CD, so that should help as well.
Top 2 Placement Recommendations:
Undermine ft. Raquel Rodriguez (Track 4)
The Price of Growing Up (Track 6)
Top 2 Intention Recommendations:
Nothing Like That Last Time (Track 10)
What's The Move ft. T-Pain (Track 2)
Sunday At Foxwoods by Boys Like Girls
I wanted to give it to the Boys anyway cause I saw them in concert this year (wonderful show) and had many songs from the album on repeat, for most of the year, however the full release came out in later October and my quest to get a physical copy hasn't been so great. Target sold out of the copy that I wanted and the CD that I bought off eBay came broken, so things just weren't working out. All of that being said, I have no doubt that when I finally get my CD and listen to everything in order, front to back, it will reaffirm what I already feel and that's that THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN. They're just so good and I'm here for everything, except for their fashion choice of the American flag lol. Y'all-ternative is real and Boys Like Girls are leading that charge. (Yes I am cringe, leave me alone.) Anyway the album is fantastic and even though I haven't done a full run through, I don't need to, to tell you that.
Top 2 Recommendations (Yes this is hard, cause I know half the album):
New Love (Track 5)
Blood and Sugar (Track 4)
*Bonus: The Outside (Outsiders Version) ft. 3OH!3, State Champs, The Summer Set and The Ready Set
I added this song and specifically this version because I think it's the best way to get the full effect of this moment and what it feels like with Boys Like Girls coming back to us. At the end of the day I think I love other songs slightly more, but this song gets me going every time.
SHIMMER.SEASON by Not My Weekend
I didn't think I was going to talk about this album because it came out in November, but then I had an end of the year binge of Not My Weekend as a whole, that's still kinda kicking and figured why not include it here so that maybe it will make it to all the main stuff in 2024. So I'm shouting it out here and now, but to be fair, this will be it's only appearance for ACF23. I also just don't want to have to go rework all of the categories that have already been long since completed, cause they would bump several folks.
Anyway SHIMMER.SEASON is the general wave for me right now. It's what I got on "out of album order" repeat and what I imagine will stay in rotation for some time to come. I'm not sure if I've listened to it front to back but I feel like I've played the Not My Weekend artist station on Spotify so many times now that I've heard all 10 songs at least once and some of them at least 20. Again it's what we doing right now. Also I don't think Patrick Gilchrist emphasizes the line "b*tch I might be!" enough when he does Lighting for in his Instagram videos, just sayin.
Top 2 Recommendations:
LIGHTING ft. Brian Butcher (Track 7)
SHUT.UP (Track 9)

Tell me a song you listen to on repeat and why. Iā€™ll wait patiently over here šŸŒø
Lol you are a kind anon! Have you ever asked me things in the past?
There's so many but two that always stick out is talking to myself and welcome to the family by George Watsky. I feel most people latch on to songs because of the messages they convey, and im no different. Both of these songs resonate with me on deep levels and in their own way. Also, I'm a sucker for piano and drum heavy tracks. The artist is someone I've met and grew up around the same time and area I did, so it's just another layer of a connection I have to the songs. Honestly, half of my top tens are from watsky, lots of depth in his work.
Thank you for the killer ask ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

I'm aware there is doubt
I don't believe in hell, but I believe in my parents' couch
You're gonna get depressed sometimes
You're gonna have weeks where you don't feel like eating
Where gravity is working overtime like it's afraid of getting laid off
And you can barely lift your fork to your mouth
And you are going to have a choice
Do you wanna see this world as ugly, or beautiful?
Wanna know what I think?
Well go fuck yourself! This is my poem
And I think the universe is great
It's like God just chucked a bunch of candy into space
And Earth is a jawbreaker
So it doesn't matter if you've got the biggest mouth
You can't just chew the world up and spit it out
You've gotta savor it
From the grandest to the blandest nook and cranny
Every crooked alley, every mountain, brook, and valley
From Candyland to Cali
That's been stamped by Rand McNally
Ordinary is outstanding!
So don't be impressed by mere miracles
And FYI, looking like a crusty hippy doesn't make you spiritual
You're gonna have to climb through a thorny mess of
Contradictions, underground rivers, and sometimes
What you love the most will cause your biggest problem
Because you know what's awesome?
World peace
And you know what else is awesome?
Catapults
And that's just the goddamn truth
This world is so confusing
But you're gonna be fine
You're gonna be fine

Sitting To Know Your Collection July Roundup
2 in one day, who am I?

Sitting To Know Your Collection Week 27 (July 1st - July 7th)
Album: Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge (2004) by My Chemical Romance Play Count: 3 Top 2 Tracks:
Thank You For The Venom (Track 9)
You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison (Track 4)
First off Happy 20th Anniversary to OG Emo Romance. Second I enjoyed the binge of this album. It has that high energy we all love but can slow itself down when it needs to and go right back up again. Not gonna lie, itā€™s one of those albums where the songs I know, Iā€™m solid on and others there a little struggle. I was raised on the singles and thatā€™s why I think this one needs a read-along when I revisit it again, cause I need to get better retention for it. That being said I remembered more than I thought I did and had a great time with it.

Sitting To Know Your Collection Week 28 (July 28th - 14th)
Album: Nimrod (1997) by Green Day Play Count: 2-3 times Top 2 Tracks:
Uptight (Track 9)
Prosthetic Head (Track 18)
Anytime is a good time for my favorite band. Iā€™m not a fan of big albums that arenā€™t deluxe editions. 10-14 tracks, under an hour, is the sweet spot for me and just seeing 18 tracks on the list had me feeling some sort of way. All that being said, the album may have 18 songs on it, but Nimord does not feel like a long drawn out album. It didnā€™t feel like I was sitting there forever waiting for it to end. (You know too much of a good thing.) This is a fun album that features several of the dentist office radio station rock hits, but also features songs like King For A Day and The Grouch, which are popular, but not well know by the casual listener. Very enjoyable listen.
Side Note: I do have the deluxe anniversary edition, but I figured it would be too much for a binge like this, but I will pry it open one day.

Sitting To Know Your Collection Week 29 (July 15th - 21st)
Album: If Only You Were Lonely XV (2021) by Hawthorne Heights Play Count: 4 Top 2 Tracks:
This Is Who We Are (Track 1)
Pens and Needles (Track 4)
This was the 2021 re-recording of the 2006 original. The first listen of this sit felt really chill, but after a couple more runs the heaviness I that I thought had simmered came back. I will say though that this version feels lighter as a whole, than the original, but that could just be the Spotify version Iā€™m listening to as I write this, so I donā€™t have to pull out my CD. Anyway itā€™s good, maybe a few less screams, but still something I love having in my collection. They were always the band that I thought of when I thought of ā€œEmoā€ and this just re-affirms that feeling.

Sitting To Know Your Collection Week 30 (July 22nd - July 28th)
Album: Nellyville (2002) by Nelly Play Count: 2 Top 2 Tracks:
Pimp Juice (Track 6)
#1 (Track 16)
This album is an automatic party, immediately a good timeā€¦ however this is a long one. It has skit interludes (shout out Cedric The Entertainer) which were fun the first time around, but they get old real quick. Like I said this album is hella fun, itā€™s just not one I feel is an on repeat, over and over again record. Specially, Iā€™m talking the entire album, not the singles, although those can get old too. I just remember Spotify also shooting tracks from this album out to me on random daylists and other playlists the same week and I just wanted to skip them. I say this having only ran through it twice, but trust it was enough.
PS: If the rumor is true. I hope the St. Lunatics get their money and their credit. (Different album, but same Nelly so statement still applies lol.)

Sitting To Know Your Collection Week 31 (July 28th - August 4th)
Album: Nothing Like The First Time Live From The Troubadour (2012) by George Watsky Play Count: 2 Top 2 Tracks:
Stupidass (Track 5)
Wounded Healer (Track 7)
This one was fun and as it played I would look up and realize that I hadnā€™t heard some of these songs in forever or at least these specific versions. I knew most words, so I could hold myself up with this one. That being said a couple runs was just enough for me. I didnā€™t need more, but I had a good time. Thereā€™s a lot of sampling and humor with this album, so if thatā€™s your thing I think youā€™d like it too.
PS: Because of all the samples, this live album and its studio version are not on Spotify, however you can find them on good ol Bandcamp and probably YouTube.

šŸŽ¶ āœØ When you get this, name 5 songs you actually listen to, then post your answer. Send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers... if you want to! šŸŽ¶ āœØ
Oh goodness uh, some random ones (more than 5 cuz I'm indecisive) from my driving playlist I listen to fairly often, trying to get some from a few genres, in no particular order:
SeƱorita- Shawn Mendes and Camilla Cabello
Sloppy seconds- Watsky
Loose control- Teddy Swims
Murder on the dance floor- Sophie Ellis-Bextor
You need to calm down- Taylor Swift
Willow tree march- Paper kites
Shotgun- George Ezra
Diamonds- Sam smith
Trampoline- SHAED & ZAYN
Flowers- Miley Cyrus
Too sweet- Hozier
Better now- Post Malone
RITMO- Black eyed peas
Way down we go- KALEO
Fallin- Alicia Keys
Feeling good- Michael Buble
That's what I like- Bruno Mars
Holy- Justin Bieber
Beggin- MĆ„neskin
When the darkness comes- JP Cooper
Bad at love- Halsey
Bad guy- Billie Eilish
Warning if you just take this and play it as a playlist you will get musical whiplash repeatedly.
And if you see this and want to play go for it, I'm too socially anxious to bother people lol. @ me if you do it I'm curious!
And because this is the pissing on the poor website, mandatory disclaimer that these songs were not selected for the moral purity of the artists or lyrics, not selected with any demographic or genre in mind, or any other secret hidden meaning, I just scanned through a playlist of songs that slap that I can sing without paying attention to while driving.
