like the most politically neutered movie of all time unironically
#im not the sort of person who's like 'it's bad because its not like the book'#i generally don't think that's a great way to engage with adaptation#but whew it's crazy how such a genuinely confrontational and satirical kids book turned out such a milquetoast movie

For those not tapped into Australian politics, King Charles is in Australia to conduct his "historic first tour to the commonwealth realm" i.e visting countries that King Charles is supposedly a monarch to.
Indigenous senator Lidia Thorpe had requested an audience with King Charles for weeks prior to this visit, she wrote countless letters to speak to him. Unlike other commonwealth nations and other former Brisitish colonies, a treaty with Indigenous peoples in Australia was never formed. Their land was never ceded to the British Crown. After being denied and ignored, Lidia Thorpe, draped in a traditional possum skin cloak, stormed in the Great Hall during the reception for Charles at Parliament House in the capital shouting the following:
I literally can't even look at these photos without getting goosebumps.
#always in awe of indigenous women. of their strength and resistance and courage#Lidia Thorpe wore a “from the river to the sea Palestine will be free” dress while the Aus parliament was trying to make it hate speech#i genuinely burst into tears watching the video#just need this on my blog tbh#lidia thorpe#indigenous#aboriginal

Not socialist in a “I won’t have to work” type of way but socialist in a “I’ll still be working but I won’t be worried I won’t make the rent” type of way. In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. In a “janitors, fast-food workers, child care workers, preschool teachers, hotel clerks, personal care and home health aides, and grocery store cashiers, will live comfortably” type of way. In a “the sick and elderly will be cared for” type of way. In a “no child should work” type of way.
#socialist#socialism#communism#anti capitalism#the belief that we won’t work under capitalism genuinely makes me so mad#like#you realize the goal of social reform is to abolish imperialism right?#there won’t be good just showing up out of nowhere without slavery and/or imperialism

do genuinely find it fascinating how indeed.com is like the biggest job-hunting website out there and yet manages to be profoundly useless in every possible way
#i'm not even being bitchy i'm just genuinely bewildered by it.#like everyone will need to search for a job at some point in their life#and everyone will need to use a job-hunting website to do it#so why are there so few options and why are they all so awful

the sexless lesbians who say every horny thought makes them "no better than a man" might kill me for this but regarding chappell roan's ass in the tight chainmail and thigh-high plate armor forming a pseudo-garterbelt situation, it needs to be said: AWOOGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA HUBBA HUBBA WOWEEEEEEEEEEEEE HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

My biggest tip for fanfic writers is this: if you get a character's mannerisms and speech pattern down, you can make them do pretty much whatever you want and it'll feel in character.
Logic: Characters, just like real people, are mallable. There is typically very little that's so truly, heinously out of character that you absolutely cannot make it work under any circumstance. In addition, most fans are also willing to accept characterization stretches if it makes the fic work. Yeah, we all know the villain and the hero wouldn't cuddle for warmth in canon. But if they did do that, how would they do it?
What counts is often not so much 'would the character do this?' and more 'if the character did do this, how would they do it?' If you get 'how' part right, your readers will probably be willing to buy the rest, because it will still feel like their favourite character. But if it doesn't feel like the character anymore, why are they even reading the fic?
Worry less about whether a character would do something, and more about how they'd sound while doing it.
#I have a bit of a problem with giving everyone the same speech patterns but on god I try#Bc genuinely. This is the no. 1 most important thing while writing fanfic#If you can make a character sound like they would say that it doesn't matter if they actually would#My posts#Writing wise

there is a judge in Seattle who does the weekly name change hearings, and who says it's her favorite part of the week. she says she doesn't read out previous names, or ask about the reasons why people want to change them. she says it's a beautiful moment, and a celebration; a claiming of a new identity, or a reclamation of an old identity. she encourages the room to clap for folks. then she welcomes everyone up, one by one, by last name and with warmth; she shows them the court order where nobody else can see, asks them to double check the spelling, and then they're done! do they want a picture? do they want their friends and loved ones who came with them to be in it too? do they want the court order in the photo? she helps everyone pose, shakes hands and stands with them for as long as they need to take it, recruits the clerk for help taking photos of the folks who came alone. then she tells them where to go next, congratulates them, and claps along with the rest of the room.
probably three quarters of the people there were trans, and she centered their experience quietly, with love and joy.
I think I'll be thinking about her a lot this January, and for a long time after. it's good to know she's there.
#went with a friend for their name change today#mine sucked in comparison! but different city and different judge i guess#anyway if you're in Seattle and thinking about getting your name changed... do it!#it was so lovely. genuinely.

I think cis people should also be their gender of choice. Like, if you're a man, you should get to really enjoy being a man- have fun with it! If you're a woman, take the parts of womanhood that really deeply make you happy. If being a little androgynous or ambiguous or hidden is the part that really makes you happy, you don't have to be trans for that. If you wanna lean really hard into being femme or masc- do it! You have one life in your body, do what makes you happy. Ditch the stuff you don't like.
My sinister queer agenda is I think that everyone should be the gender they like in the way they like it.
#the most important opinion on your gender is your own#it's like fashion#if you're wearing what genuinely makes you feel happy and comfortable#you can't look bad
