Oh no I did mean you about your fics! Yes I agree with everything you said and actually yeah now that you mention it Dwayne probably would not love that lol. However I totally believe this movie will continue Moana’s independence in her new mission. I think after the first one I’m just really interested in if Maui meets the villagers on Motonui? Does simea meet him? Do we find more about his upbringing? It only hit me with the first trailer that Moana’s parents weren’t thatttt old but I’ve gotta see how tui reacts to seeing Maui for the first time :) okay rambling over for now. I’ll stick around here (and ao3) to see what becomes of this awesome movie’s fandom that hopefully grows a bunch!

from the interviews and trailers, I wanna say one of the biggest themes in moana 2 is gonna be Community. There's a word in the Japanese trailer specifically- "Nakama" - that grabbed my attention.

Nakama is often translated in anime subs as 'comrades' or 'friends' or even 'teammates'. That's close enough but there's a level of nuance that doesn't quite have a one for one equivalent in English. 'Found family' might be closer. It's very common in sentai shows like power rangers, sailor moon, etc. It implies a level of shared purpose, experience, fondness. The Squad. This is what I think moana's next journey is gonna focus on.

Moana has had the love of her community her whole life, and of course she's always been close to her grandmother, her pets, her mother and even her father-despite their disagreements on voyaging- but in her grow-up montage we don't see her have friends her own age. She's had no siblings to relate to up til this point, and she seems a bit distant from the other children. her obsession with the sea alienates her over time. She delights in the old stories that frighten the other children. While her family weaves baskets, she makes a toy boat. The other kids draw their island, their fales, moana draws a canoe.

She's often breaking out of the group, sneaking off to the sea. its not til puberty, after Tui's 'raise the island speech' does she start feeling getting into the communal activities & musically starts singing along. Then she bonds with her island as their Taupou, their 'closest-English-equivalent-princess'. In Samoan tradition, the Taupou is the highest ranking unmarried (virgin) woman, usually the high chief's daughter and is expected to be the role model for all her peers, surrounded by a retinue of kins-women as chaperones and confidants.

But Moana, if she has one, constantly gives hers the slip to hang out with another social misfit: Tala the village crazy lady. Even when we see Moana doing her princess rounds among the villagers there seems to be a bit of professional distance- we don't get anyone else's name, no inside jokes, playful banter. Its not like anyone is malicious or antagonistic towards her, and their polite smiles do seem genuinely fond- her people cautiously trust her with their problems, gazes torn between her and chief-safety-net Tui, and accept her suggestions gratefully. She teaches dance to the younger children who clearly adore her, but its not quite the same. These are Moana's People, her family-but not really her friends.

and we can tell that by how moana acts with the friends she does have. She and grandma Tala deliberately spend quality time together, they share interests (the sea) and hobbies (dance, storytelling). they joke and splash and lean on each other. They do Hongi (familial forehead touches), they walk arm & arm. They share confidences, in jokes, concerns. She sings her troubles to pua, and he's right by her side when she sneaks aboard the fishing catamarans. he comforts her when her dad yells, listens to her wanderlusting laments, enables her exploits. It takes a near death experience in the lagoon to keep Pua from her side at sea.

Maui is an even better example. Circumstances force them together, its true, but the trials of their quest soon see them bonding. They laugh, they tease, they banter, they share triumphs and tears.

Its certainly not an instant friendship. it starts out downright antagonistic- Moana goes into their meeting making demands of him. She uses her Chief Voice. She addresses him by formal titles, possibly speaking as one Aliki to another, as the wronged party in a dispute. She's trying to borrow an authority she's not fully bought into yet. She may have been born to the role, but that's not really how she identifies herself internally. Maui even calls her on it later.

As Maui navigates them to Tamatoa's lair, post kakamora escape, post tentative world-saving bargain, Moana is impressed by his prowess. Swept up in the moment, she enthusiastically commands Maui; "Teach me how to sail!"

Given how awkward her follow up is, I don't think Moana throws her princess privilege around like that naturally. At home she's always outranked by her parents, and while she perhaps doesn't see as much trouble as she might for sneaking out of communal chores, Tui & Sina are not shy to correct her. It doesn't seem in Moana's usual nature to be so demanding- part of why she had to practice her 'board my boat' speech so hard before she actually met Maui. "Fake it til ya Make it" is still in play here.

but Maui makes it abundantly clear that even if he didn't instantly see through her posturing, the authority she's trying to conjure wouldn't work on him anyway. In our world's mythology, technically Maui is also Ali'i (royal). Not only was he born to a chief, of a line of chiefs, his eldest brother is a chief. Depending what island you ask, he's got several godly blood relatives. In many myths he earns his own chiefdom (despite being the youngest son), and spawns several royal descendants. On Tonga, Samoa, and eventually Hawaii, many if not most Kings claim some Maui-the-island-raiser ancestry. Heck, there's a not 0% chance Maui IS one of Moana's ancestors. (many, many, many, many generations removed. Like if Genghis Khan showed up today and someone from San Francisco tried to slap a child support suit on him. )

but even if they're both technically Ali'i, Maui considers himself well divorced from all that. He's loathe to accept authority of any kind, even from the Gods themselves. A tried and true coping mechanism for any immortal whose already lived several times over normal human lifespan, he distances himself from the humans he helps. They are Mortal, Moana is just some Mortal, royal or not, and he does NOT take orders from them.

"Princess." he says, derisively. Dismissively. In Maui's stories, princesses are passive objects. They get saved, they get given as rewards, often times they get tricked into revealing secret treasure. Even his mother, (in the stories where he's on good terms with her), is mostly there to provide quest objectives. Maui might be a giant pain in the ass to his biological brothers, but at least they get to participate in a feat or two.

Moana at this point may or may not know what a princess is. The cultures that inspired moana's creation had kings and princesses at some points, but Motonui is either not big enough or doesn't subscribe to the whole king-ship deal. Their high chief still picks coconuts with the farmers, weaves baskets, cooks poi. Tui himself doesn't fish because Trauma, but he coordinates with fishermen on the ground- err, beach. The Motunui Ali'i are pretty well grounded. (lol)

but Moana can read tone just fine. Maui is saying "princess' dismissively. He defines it dismissively. On the climb to lalotai he defines it again, "staying home, kissing babies". A ceremonial, figurehead role.

Moana immediately denies being one. She continues to take offense to Maui's attempts to shoehorn her into that definition. She is the Future Chief. She is doing this for her people, dammit, and she's not gonna take the bench on this one. She may still be expecting that Maui is gonna be the one solving the problem, hasn't quite imagined herself taking the lead solo yet. but there's no way she's missing out on either helping out or making sure Maui sticks to their deal. There will be nothing passive about This Princess.

Anyway, I've rambled on too long already, you know most of the rest. Moana comes out of the adventure a hero in her own right, drawing on skills and strengths of her own to win the day. Her empathy, her quick learning, her parkour skills and even their friendship becomes part of Moana's heroic arsenal. She ends the movie on a far more equal footing with the living legend she has befriended. She knows who she is. She knows where she came from, and can see a little ways into where she's going. She's ready for a new chapter.

So here we are at the beginning of Moana 2. Moana has spent 3 years a badass. its looks like her latest trip she did just with pua and hei hei, but the abundance of other boats in the lagoon suggests theres been other more populated trips. She inspires a cultural revolution. She has a fan club. She has a new baby sister to role model for.

[LOOK AT MOANA'S LIL FAN CLUB EEE SO PRECIOUS]

and it seems like the one person who might relate to all that has been AWOL. (in the japanese trailers at least, there's notes of 'where has Maui been all this time'? SPOILER: probably kidnapped by matangi).

when Moana gets a divine vision quest to seek out new peoples, at first we see her try to go alone. She doesn't wanna put anyone else into harms way, she says. Its a long way, she says. but her mother insists that Moana doesn't have to do it alone this time. She needs a crew.

and thus, how i come to my conclusion. The next step in moana's journey is expanding her friend circle. Moana knows who she is as an individual. She's had one-on-one best friends (tala, pua, maui, possibly even that new little sister). She's had and lost mentors. She is solid in her family ties, and on a larger scale, the love of Her Island. But she hasn't really had the in-between step. A Small But Dedicated Crew.

I think Moana 2 is about the birth of Captain Moana & the Argonauts

I think 'Squad Goals' is the next part of Maui's journey too. Maui started the franchise a lone wolf and immediately after the heart quest was done he was back on the Lone Wolf track. Which seems to have gotten him in some trouble. In one trailer he argues with mini-maui,

"I don't need Moana to come rescue me!"

....

"-AGAIN."

Dwayne Johnson talked about in an interview that the kind of masculinity he wants to convey thru Maui is how its ok to ask for help. Its ok to rely on other people. You don't have to do everything alone. but of course, that's easier said than done. It'll be a learning curve for everyone involved.

And I think itll be a fun one to watch!

1: Nick Valentine

- He is the only one that seems genuinely interested and devoted to helping you on your journey and find what you’re looking for, Shaun.

- I respect that he prides himself on a sense of serving justice, his story is good and it was genuinely very interesting for me.

- Terminal Hacking is a life saver AUGH thank you Val.

- His voice… His sarcasm…

2: Dogmeat

- Doesn’t talk.

- Never hates you, you can do anything around them.

- You can dress Dogmeat up in collars, bandanas, canine armor, headgear and more.

- Dogmeat will also play with a teddy bear if you give it to him- what a dope guy.

- Is a dog.

3: Codsworth

- Bro is loyal to you even after 200 years. This robot is my real son, he calls me mum. Fuck you Shaun.

- She is literally my wife.

- I adore her voice and accent.

- Supplies me stimpacks which is epic.

- Gives me Jack Sparrow vibes. He’s a big smart ass while simultaneously being high asf all the time and it greatly amuses me

6: Preston Garvey

- Rose why is Preston of all people so high? Yeah, “a new settlement needs your help” can be annoying sometimes, but I personally really like the minutemen quests.

- He just wants to help everyone and with everything and he’s willing to admit that he isn’t strong enough to do it on his own. That makes him the strongest character in my eyes, sure he’s weak in combat but that’s a trait that really speaks to me.

- He knows he isn’t a hero and he’s willing to admit that. But he still strives to be that perfect person, even if it’s far from reach.

- Bonding with him hits hard, I don’t romance him but I love having him as a very close friend. Especially when he opens up to you about how he contemplated suicide. To keep going when you’ve gotten down that low with yourself is also really strong.

- In short I know it’s not a popular opinion, but I love Preston.

7: Paladin Danse

- Best fighter IMO.

- I really like his story esp with helping him improve his view points on the Commonwealth and Synths, as well as himself who ofc, happens to be a Synth.

- Even if he never stops being ENTIRELY racist, even to his own kind.

- He’s very pretty for a boy.

8: MacCready

- Best companion if I wanna be a sarcastic menace.

- Also if I want to get up to some mischief, like stealing and shit.

- His sarcastic dialogue is the best he’s very funny and I love that he plays off of whatever you say.

- Gives me ammo randomly THANK YOU.

- Also his perk is like broken, it’s fucking awesome.

9: Piper

- Super sweet and nice.

- Gives me snacks.

- Lowkey a meme.

over the past few days the real music scandal i have been paying attention to is from one of my favourite artists and it has genuinely felt like a devastating blow.

when the cbc posted their investigation i read it hoping dearly this would be a simple hit piece that could be dismantled through fact checking, but the investigation was fair and thorough and the evidence put forward is solid beyond reasonable doubt.

and it hurts. i’m hearing so many stories from indigenous people who feel like they’ve had the carpet ripped out under them, buffy was a role model and a hero to them. she was someone to rally behind. her appearance on sesame street was part of their childhood, positive representation and some of the first. she made such positive change to help indigenous peoples, real activism.

but it was all built on a fundamental lie.

i am posting this here because i think some insight can be gained in why liking artists for how unproblematic they are may not save you from hurt or be a good idea for basing your identity on. because out of everyone in the music industry, buffy used to be a shining star. an indigenous woman with a story of overcoming obstacles and discrimination in her career, survivor of the scoop and sa, meaningful activism and wonderful music - she was so highly regarded and honestly the pinnacle of what the young generation is looking for in an artist right now.

but when we look for a perfect person, we can never truly find them because perfect people do not exist. so when we find a person who has the image of being perfect, that’s all it is. image. or lies. maybe the flaws are small, maybe it’s all rot behind the mask.

because sainte marie, who was considered to be the best of the best, is a fraud. never indigenous. she is claimed as kin by a piapot family, but the relationship formed after she was already grifting as an indigenous artist, it was a kin relationship formed on false pretences. and this is not a criticism of that family, what terrible circumstances they find themselves in.

she lied about her race and used the lie to propel her career and turn herself into an iconic figure. she got funding and opportunities intended for indigenous peoples. she hid her lies behind real issues that indigenous peoples who were taken away from their families in the sixties scoop deal with, disconnection and lost knowledge. she used it to create plausible deniability for the gaps in her ancestry claim.

there is now evidence that she threatened her brother, who had tried to expose her lies about her race, with a lawyer and threatened him with a manipulative lie that she would claim he sexually abused her, which silenced him all the way until his 2011 death.

and as an italian american, she also faked being canadian, and took funding and opportunities away from canadian artists. (i don’t expect non-canadians to understand cancon in depth, the gov gives can artists money and opportunities because we can’t compete with the american music industry, and there is a history of american radio stations refusing to play canadian music and artists stuff like that - it’s a whole thing). she is a recipient of the order of canada which is the highest civilian award. i’m sure she is officially canadian now, but she would have became canadian through claiming to have been born in saskatchewan instead of massachusetts instead of applying like any other immigrant.

and for some the truth will be too painful to accept so they will believe that the truth is the lie. and of course there is discourse on what makes someone indigenous, some believe kinship is enough but others base their rights on their ancestors - but i won’t get into that.

my main conclusion from all of this is like musicians for their music, and do not condemn real people for their flaws because it creates an environment for deceitful people to thrive.

i'm a stoner hehe i smoke to help with my issues. helps me genuinely function and deal with my misdirected anger so it keeps me a better person. not a nicotine guy tho. i luv my weed and just my weed fr.

i'm auDHD as well as having several mental illnesses. but mostly my symptoms reflect my BPD, PTSD and Autism the most. i have symptoms of illnesses caused by my bpd and autism- for example OCD and depression/anxiety/panic.

i don't have very many PTSD triggers if any.

now the fun part!! if you were wondering what flavor of autism i have, i like to write fanfic :3 i draw sometimes but i'm not as good at that so i stick mostly to writing. honestly if i figure out how to work tumblr better i will start taking requests related to my hyperfixatioms teehehe..

🍃🕊🍃 AhlulBayt (Ahl-e-Bait) in Noble Qur’an

The Purified Ones: The Highest degree of purity means to be kept constantly away from all the causes of impurity. This is termed as the state of infallibility in knowledge, character and action. It could have been applied generally to the whole mankind who are keeping aloof from all the impurities as the word of Allah (SWT) commands; but, Allah (SWT) expressively has confined His order to certain group of individuals by excluding the rest of the mankind from it in His divine will by declaring Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) as the persons purified by Him to be constantly in touch with the Noble Qur’an in its original, hidden, well protected, exalted and purified form. It was Allah’s (SWT) wish to remove all blemishes from them, as mentioned in the Verse of Purity (Ayat Al-Tathir) in the Noble Qur’an:

The Verse of Purity (Ayat Al-Tathir): “… Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House! And to purify you a (thorough) purifying.” Noble Qur’an (33:33)

The above verse from Noble Qur’an, is known as Ayat Al-Tathir, refers to the members of the household of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), which include exclusively Prophet Muhammad, Imam Ali, Fatima Zahra, Imam Hasan, and Imam Hussain (peace be upon them all). Hence Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) other offspring, wives, sons of paternal uncles, and dwellers of his house are not to be called as Prophet Muhammad’s Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt).

The argument is based on the genuine and authentic traditions narrated by Sahaba, companions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) recorded in both the Sunni and Shia sources.

🍃🕊🍃 AhlulBayt (Ahle Bait) in Hadith’s

1. Hadith-e-Kisa (Hadith of the Cloak):

It is narrated from Umm al-Momineen, Umm Salamah that once Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was in her house lying on a mattress, covered with a cloak from Khaibar when his beloved daughter Fatima Zahra (pbuh) entered with a dish called al-Khazira (a kind of food). Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) asked her to call her husband, Imam Ali and her two sons, Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain. Fatima Zahra (pbuh) called them and as they all sat together to eat, Allah (SWT) revealed the following verse of purity (Ayat Al-Tathir) to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). “… Allah only desires to keep away the uncleanness from you, O people of the House! And to purify you a (thorough) purifying.” Noble Qur’an (33:33)

Upon this Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) covered them all with his cloak and lifting his hands towards the sky said: “O Allah (SWT)! This is my family and the nearest of my kin, keep away from them uncleanness and keep them pure as pure can be.” Umm al-Momineen, Umm Salamah adds that thrice Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) repeated these words and when she poked her head under the cloak and asked him, Am I with you? In a refraining gesture, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said twice: “You are (also) among the righteous.”

Thus it is clear from above discussion that Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) daily habit of stopping at his daughter Fatima Zahra’s (pbuh) house and addressing her household as Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt), was not without reason. In fact he was expounding the meaning of the term Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) and practically explaining to the Muslims the verse of purity (Ayat Al-Tathir) and the particular persons meant by it. To be more precise, he was drawing the attention of the Muslim nation towards the significance of his Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) and their leadership after him so that the Muslims should love, obey and follow them.

2. Mubahala Tradition or Incident of Mubahila (Imprecation):

In the south of Arabia, there is a place called Najran. There lived the Christian tribe of Najran who staunchly believed that Prophet Isa (pbuh) i.e., Jesus was the son of God. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) invited them to accept Islam. In response to that, a delegation of their priests and elders came to Madina. They wanted to discuss religion with Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Their argument was that Jesus was born without a father through Virgin Mary, so he was the son of God. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) explained to them that just as Allah (SWT) created Prophet Adam (pbuh) without a father or even a mother, in the same way He created Prophet Jesus (pbuh) without a father.

Hence Prophet Jesus (pbuh) was a servant of Allah (SWT) as was Prophet Adam (pbuh). The Christians did not agree with this simple truth. Christians stuck to their belief that Jesus was the son of God. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) asked them to wait. Then came the following Revelation (message from Allah (SWT)):

But whoever disputes with you in this matter after what has come to you of knowledge, then say: Come let us call our sons and your sons and our women and your women and our souls and your souls, then let us be earnest in prayer, and pray for the curse of Allah on the liars. Noble Qur’an (3:61)

It was then agreed that the Christians seek Mubahila (Imprecation) with Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The meaning of Mubahala is that both of them invoke from Allah (SWT) that he, who speaks the truth, may survive and he, who is not speaking the truth may perish.

On the day of Mubahala, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) took with him his grandsons – Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain, in place of his sons. In place of women, he took his daughter Fatima Zahra. In place of his souls, he took his cousin and son-in-law Imam Ali. But on seeing the radiant faces of these sinless members of the household of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the Christians got scared. They decided not to seek Mubahala any more but accepted their defeat. They agreed to pay tribute and returned home.

This is how Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) showed to the world, who the true and real members of his Ahlul Bayt (Ahl-e-Bait) were.

3. Mawaddat al-Qurba (al-Mawaddah Fil-Qurba) or Expressed love for the close of kin:

In this Last Word of Allah (Noble Qur’an), Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is being commanded to ask the believers to love his kith and kin (that is his Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt)) and that would be the return of his apostleship. Hence, to Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) has been obligatory (wajib) command of Allah on every Muslim.

Say (O Muhammad, unto mankind): I do not ask of you any reward for it but love for my near relatives. Noble Qur’an (42:23)

Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Masood (RA) narrated: One day, we were accompanying the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in one of his journeys when a Bedouin with an orotund voice shouted at us, “Muhammad!”

“What do you want?” answered the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

“What is it if an individual loves a people but he does not imitate them in deeds?” asked the Bedouin.

“One will be attached to the one he loves,” replied the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

“Muhammad,” shouted the Bedouin, “Call me to Islam.”

The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “You should declare that there is no god but Allah (SWT) and that I am the Messenger of Allah (SWT), offer the prayer (Salat), defray the zakat, fast during the month of Ramadan, and perform the hajj to the Holy House.”

“Muhammad,” asked the Bedouin, “Do you ask for wage for so?” “No,” replied the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), “I do not take any wage except that you must regard the relatives.” “Whose relatives? Mine or yours?” asked the Bedouin. “It is my relatives,” answered the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The Bedouin said: “Give me your hand so that I will declare allegiance to you. No good is expected from him who loves you, but not your relatives.”(Bihar ul-Anwar)

4. Hadith al-Safinah or Safinah Tradition:

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has compared his Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) to Noah’s ark. Whoever loves and follows them will attain salvation and whoever violates their sanctity will drown. While holding the door of Holy Kaaba, Abu Dharr told that he had heard Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) say, “My family among you is like Noah’s ark. He who sails in it will be safe, but he who holds back from it will perish.”

In another place Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: “The parable of my Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) is that of the boat of Noah, whoever gets aboard it is saved and whoever stays away from it is drowned.”

5. Hadith al-Thaqalayn or Saqlain Tradition (Hadith of the two weighty things):

Prophet Muhammad – may Allah (SWT) bestow peace and benedictions upon him and his pure Progeny – said: “Verily, I am leaving behind two precious things (thaqalayn) among you: the Book of Allah and my kindred (itrah), my household Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt), for indeed, the two will never separate until they come back to me by the Pond (of alKawthar on the Day of Judgement).” [Hadith-e-Saqlain]

Since the Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) carry as much weight in the eyes of Allah (SWT) as the Noble Qur’an, the former has the same qualities as the latter. Just as the Noble Qur’an is true from beginning to end without the shadow of untruth in it, and just as it is incumbent (duty) of every Muslim to obey its commands, so also must the Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) be perfectly true and sincere guides whose commands must be followed by all. Therefore there can be no escape of accepting their leadership and following their creed and faith. The Muslims are bound by the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to follow them and no one else.

Imam al-Shafi’i, one of the four Imams of the Sunni school of thought, in his famous verses says, “Let everybody know that if the love of Prophet Muhammad’s descendants means to be a Rafizi, I am a Rafizi.”

Imam al-Shafi’i also says, “O Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt)! Allah (SWT) has made it obligatory in the Noble Qur’an to love you. It is a matter of pride for you that without invoking blessing on you, prayer is not valid.” Again he says in his verses, “After having seen that the people have chosen different ways which have led them to the Ocean of deviation and ignorance. I have, in the name of Allah (SWT), embarked the ship which may lead me to safety. The Ahlul Bayt of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) are that very ship, we have been ordered to hold fast the rope of Allah (SWT), and that rope is their love.”

Conclusion: Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his Ahlul Bayt (Ahl al-Bayt) sacrificed all the worldly comforts and even their lives in order to convey the true religion of Islam to us. In return of their sacrifices, we are commanded by Allah (SWT) to love them. The aim is that through their love, we follow their footsteps. We follow the true teachings of Islam taught by them, so that we live a good and decent life in this world and earn the pleasure of Allah (SWT) in the life hereafter.

002 I Give me a character & I will tell you

• How I feel about this character

For Micolash: I feel a LOT of things about Mico. He is genuinely one of the most important fictional characters that I ever had in my life. Not just that, but there were many bizarre and significant dreams connected with him, and even some things transcending into waking life.

I actually feel a bit reclusive to elaborate as these are very intimate matters (that also touch upon spiritual matters and mental health). I'll just say that this character means A Whole Bunch for me, and I gave up trying to reason why I am not scared or repulsed by him despite the sheer depth of comprehending his insanity. Though can a hard-core fan of FromSoft games truly be sane? Hehehe~ Also I love his appearance and I want to kiss his face, and I want to give him a motherly hug and wrap him in a comfy blankey

For Rom: Roughly the same things apply; a very important character, a lot of connection with dreams, spiritual experiences and mental health profile. In fact, I sort of kin this character. It is just hard to convey since within canon she is almost a blank canvas, yet I don't even feel connected with my portrayal of her specifically. It is just A Rom. There are only a few boundaries, such as strong sense of her being one of the students. But I love all the takes on her!

I picked interest in her almost instantly, but I had a dream about being her before I knew ANYTHING about her and only saw the design. She was, and is, such a blast to develop from my very first days into Bloodborne. She is as important for me as Micolash, just except that I do not have a crush on her. It'd feel too awkward... xD

• All the people I ship romantically with this character

For Micolash: Edgar, Damian, Laurence, Rom (not my version of her though, since mine is his sister), to an extent Kos and Wet Nurse (they are weird ones since they're gods)... Yeah, I think that's mostly it! I could like some others though? For example, @saint--adeline had a ship of Mico with Adeline and like... gfjjjfjyug cursed but it actually makes hella sense, you go girl xD

For Rom: Ebrietas, Julie/Yurie, Edgar, Micolash (see above), Damian, Adeline, Maria, Willem (cursed, I know), Patches

Naturally, I am not rotating all of these ships in my brain all the time, hahaha! I just like to explore different opportunities in fiction, and these are the ones I think of!

• My non-romantic OTP for this character

For Micolash: It is hard to choose one... I think him and Archibald work well! Archie probably would simp for Micolash, though, but I just don't see them becoming a couple. However, they would work together and get along juuust fine like two mad inventors, plus Archie is basically THE chief of Yahar'gul hunters. And one of the few mad lads that was loyal to Micolash genuinely until the end.

For Rom: Which one would not become a ship, hmmm... She sure has friends, but 'platonic OTP' is a very honorable status, you know! I think Caryll falls here the best; my particular version of Caryll distances from Byrgenwerth a bit soon, but in general they are the highest Insight scholars on the block (Micolash drools and hisses and cries and throws up from envy)

Honorable mention: My versions of Rom and Micolash themselves! They are siblings separated at birth that found each other thanks to Rom's intuition and unique devotion to finding her lost brother. They went though everything together, and were close and loyal to defending each other until the end. In fact, they are SO close that arguably none of their romantic ships could rival this bond. Very codependent family bond does that sometimes...

• My unpopular opinion about this character

For Micolash: Not an opinion, more like 'then do it yourself if you're so goddamn smart' moment. But I think he should have been involved in Research Hall (very likely as one of the doctors), and I think this is not explored often enough! Just like him being a necromancer and being able to teleport is not something I see addressed often enough. Basically my opinion is that there are more sides of him to simp for appreciate than just him being Weird Guy and a cult leader. The dude got TALENTS, okay? x)

For Rom: I prefer to think that her being intellectually disabled and, I quote, "childlike", was not a side-effect of ascension but natural traits for her in life! (Her title in Japanese original uses the word 'hakuchi' that is very directly a way to describe profound mental disability, as opposed to the more vague English word 'vacuous'). No, takes along the lines of Rom being a super genius so smart that she deserved eyes for that alone are cool, I am just very biased on my way of taking her title. In my case since she is a student, it is selective disability: academically smart but very helpless otherwise. Can see everything throw raw intuition but gets none of it. Can conduct incredibly complex research on the Universe but might not know how to button her shirt or count to ten. Along those lines!

I'll say though: the day someone makes Rom not a scholar and not a teacher but a secret third thing (Willem's baby daughter) is the day I will EAT that take /pos

• One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

For Micolash: I'd LOVE it if Micolash was a friendly NPC in the Nightmare for some time (basically temporary Doll, or maybe giving us helpful updates for Insight points), and then "betrayed" us by jumping in the Lake that'd serve as teleporter to the Lecture Building. x) Inspired by the cut idea for him in beta version where he DID do that. Him being a useful NPC is just my idea to lead up to it. Maybe he'd even make lamps conveniently not work in the Nightmare to force us to interact with h- lol yeah I just wish we got to interact with him more.

For Rom: A way to reveal Mensis Ritual without having to kill her and her babies. Just a split way of acting where if you kill her you get this, if you use roundabout way you get that... I just... I can't describe the feeling from that battle, it felt like bullying a child... even despite the fact that she has like 500 of her own children. But yeah, a FromSoft game that let's you be safe from anguish is not a FromSoft game...

• my OTP

For Micolash: Micoedgar! Edgar fell in LOVE with Micolash and he ruined his mission because he was GAY for him and he WILLINGLY gave Micolash his soul and he protects him because he is SIMP and I'll die on this hill!!!! But no, seriously, I feel like the two have the best potential. I largely characterized Edgar as someone not quite fitting with the Choir's limiting, toothless ways, and his brilliant and inquisitive mind simply found more of a kindred spirit in Micolash; the 'insane' and 'evil' guy that Choir told him to not trust and stop at all cost. And I think Micolash likewise appreciates Edgar; someone both smart (and brave) enough to listen to him and question things like him, but also an individualist enough to doubt him and concur his own thoughts if needed. Edgar refuses to wear a cage, now doesn't he? They are just equal, in the best way possible.

For Rom: I could not choose between Robrietas or Yurom/Julirom. Ever. Like yeah I know Rom has two hands (16 in her ascended form, actually), but balancing a human and a GO is hard... I think my preference will SLIGHTLY skew towards Rombrietas though, since Rom is destined to ascend anyway..

I concluded Ebrietas is a half-human herself (adult version of a celestial larva), so both Rom and Ebby would hit a very strong bond of being 'between' the mortal and the divine. Ebrietas also mourns Rom's petrified real body. I always felt like Ebrietas would much rather have Rom stay safe within the guidance of Stars and Moon, but Rom just.... HAD to go above and beyond, HAD to become a Spider (Amygdalae affiliation), HAD to secretly help Micolash... There is very deep emotion and conflict, and Ebrietas also having the Grinch heart moment; as a 'paleblood' Great One she nonetheless cries red bloody tears, as a sign of her feelings Rom 'sullying' her purity.. but also letting her touch upon her human side for the first time. Her theme and Rosmarinus both have 'why do you cry, fair maiden' bit but Rom altar has candles, so they must know WHY, right? But maybe it is because it was the first time Ebrietas cared about someone being lost to a ritual....

There are just so many layers to the two, I could go on all day....

• my cross over ship

For Micolash: I don't know... I have a suspicion a character from ER might fit, but I'll need to learn more about them before.

For Rom: I once had a weird fever dream where she met Gwynd0lin and they were talking about their experiences, and then Rom (still human-ish enough) had to run away carrying him in her arms when Suly appeared and beckoned Aldr1ch with the bell ggjhkgkyhj It is hard to describe but the emotions of both of them, and the impending horror, felt so real that I now physically can't unsee the two having a good chemistry. I've been imagining them interacting in a crossover a few times by now.

• a headcanon fact

Damn, I did not notice upon first reading the meme that it had this oxymoron, hahaha. Like... so, a headcanon OR a fact? I'll interpret it as 'a headcanon I am firm on' because I don't see any other way x)

For both: The description of the first Brain Fluid you find mentions a man that wanted to become a doctor, and so his sister volunteered to be his patient. I believe that the mentioned siblings HAD to be Micolash and Rom; Research Hall's connection with peeking into the Sea, the fact that eventually Research Hall does become Choir's base, the fact that this description is too random otherwise.....

You pick this Brain Fluid from a female head that is guarded by a guy, sure, but not only he is lower ranking Black Church doctor/hunter (that'd probably not do experiments on ascension, unlike White doctors)... But also, his internal name is 'lover npc'. So yeeee.

I'll give some pointer though: it could also refer to maybe Laurence and Adeline (Laurence does hold Eye Pendant and Healing Church WAS interested in internal eyes through water at its first days). Or maybe Micolash and Adeline? I just think these being Rom and Micolash comnects the things way better, Rom being the zero patient from whom that research started just... just completes things so well, and explains her fate more... That Rom was honored by Kos, when other patients turned to the Stars instead of the Sea or just went mad... argh.

Thank you for the ask, it was fun to reflect on so many things! These two are indeed my favs!

Dreamed that I was living through writing exercises, in a very "this is a play and we're testing out dialogue to refine it" sort of way. Only occasionally the planned dialogue was replaced by the characters with no input from me, and the new dialogue was genuinely better. I was flummoxed.

My character was personally unaware that he was a character -- this was just him living his life. Although he knew he occupied a strange position, as he had many clear memories of a prior life as a devotee of a religion that called for him to read texts that were restricted from others. Strong implications that reading them was actually dangerous and only someone with a lot of training and experience could read and safely understand the text, and that the highest tier of restriction (intended for the heads of the religion) very much put you in close spiritual proximity to one or more deities.

So, many years after that first life as a religious scholar and leader, the writing system has changed and ordinary folk have absolutely no way to read and understand the highest tier text. A section of it had been artistically depicted in a stone wall, and a cloth had been draped over it symbolically but it could still be read if you got close enough to lift the cloth up.

This guy was very much in a fish-out-of-water situation; he was trying to reconcile these so-strong memories of a culture and place and time that his physical body didn't belong to. Feeling lost and not a little like he could not fully trust himself or his sense of identity. No one around him believes him to have been... Whatever this is, a reincarnation? But he remembers it all so clearly...

And here as he travels, he sees the art installation, and feels compelled against his better judgement to try to sneak a look. There's a high priest/scholar present, and guards, and various lower level clerks and assistants, and the planned dialogue was for him to get caught and have this dramatic scene where he would get to see that the text was tantalizingly familiar but not be able to see it well enough to read.

And instead -- totally not expected by the character or by me, the author -- he was found by the head priest/scholar, who recognized him as spiritual kin, quite possibly the way the midwife recognized Cazaril in the Curse of Chalion.

"You may not have read these with the eyes that you have now." A gesture , indicating the physical body. "But your spirit has read them." Clear, pausing only very briefly, stepping to the cloth and gesturing for the character to approach. Lifting the cloth away, so that guards and assistants would understand that this was being done with the priest/scholar's permission and authority. The prohibited text now clearly visible, able to be touched, able to be read.

And then the priest/scholar continued on with his duties, notably not trying to immediately re-incorporate the character into the religion's hierarchy or impose expectations on him. And the text was a relief, a joy, a familiar poem that gives you goosebumps.

But I on a meta level was absolutely taken back by the unexpected reaction, and realizing that it had to be something like in Curse of Chalion or perhaps telepathy, such that the priest/scholar could tell immediately that this person was legitimate even if there wasn't precedent for it. And I have zero clue what the text said, just that it was indeed the same text and a similar religious experience as when the character had read the text before. (And reading it takes a while; I think it was just an excerpt, not the whole thing, but there was some mechanic where once you have read it all, reading excerpts is like reading it all, but if you do that it still takes time as though you were absorbing the full thing.)

It's pretty much just like it sounds . It is beings that genuinely believe they can shapeshift from form to form . Like holothere mixed in with shapeshifter - you physically shift (for whatever reason , not limited to delusions) from kintype to kintype (usually whoever/whatever is highest/strongest) . It can fluctuate in intensity - one day it is very strong and the next you could not feel it at all , but the term physical shapeshifter is not required to be a flux term/fluctuate .

At 100% fluctuation would mean you 100% feel like you are physically that kintype , where if you are 0% fluctuation you would feel like you physically shifted back to your human self (regardless if you are happy about it or not) and your kintypes are on a nonphysical level .

This includes anyone/anything under the otherkin/alterhuman/therain/nohuman table (including Otherlink) - you just have to have more than 1 kintype (regardless if that kintype is human or not) that you genuinely believe you are them and it shifts according to whoever (or whatever) is currently the highest kin .

Example: One day you might be physically be Charlie from Hazbin Hotel , and then the next day it shifts to being physically Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony - no longer feeling like you are physically Charlie but still have her as a kintype . But the day after you no longer feel like you are any of your kins physically (This one for specifically flux)

It could also be referred to almost as genderfluidflux but for physical alterhumans

I think it's important to keep in mind when considering Solas's claims that Mythal was "the good one" and was against her kin and they killed her solely because they were evil and power-hungry that she has a well that enslaves anyone who drinks from it (and seems pretty gleeful at being able to control Quiz/Morrigan; you're right that we don't know how similar Flemythal is to how she was back then, but with no evidence to the contrary—and given if memory serves Solas as the only authority on the matter we have to work with never suggests she's significantly changed, although I freely admit that whether that's because she hasn't or because he doesn't want to get into it with Quiz is impossible to say at this point—we kind of have to work with the information we've been given) and has vallaslin patterns and those both absolutely predate her death. Which fascinates me, because the evidence we have outside of Solas's claims (the Well, the vallaslin patterns, the Dalish stories that paint her as someone the other Evanuris obeyed without too much complaint, her behaviour post-Veil...) all suggests to me she was not significantly better than the others but Solas somehow... missed that? I agree it'd make a lot of sense for him to have strong feelings for her, romantic or platonic, but to me the most interesting aspect of that is how I get the strong sense those feelings blinded him to all her faults and convinced him she was an innocent victim of the Evanuris, regardless of whether or not that's true. (Continued below the cut, because you activated my tinfoil hat theory trap card and this got long; tl;dr I have a theory that Mythal's death wasn't as unprovoked as Solas thinks.)

You have given me a tinfoil hat and I will put that on and run with it: I have a theory (to be clear a very silly, somewhat baseless theory that absolutely at least partially stems from my personal dislike of Mythal as a character and plot device and representation of Bioware shitting on the Dalish, I hate the "the only good one" thing so much and is very unlikely to be the case in canon but I'm gonna play with it until it's disproved because it delights me and honestly I think it makes as much sense as any other explanation with the information we have at this point) that the Evanuris killing Mythal was not the first event of that whole sequence that led to the Veil; Mythal killed Dirthamen and was killed in revenge, likely instigated by Falon'Din, and Solas—who seems to be at best incredibly blind to her faults—either didn't know that or dismissed Dirthamen's death as deserved or righteous and so still considered her death unprovoked and worthy of horrific punishment. The evidence for this is limited (see previous point about it being somewhat baseless), but it mostly boils down to a couple things.

First, Dirthamen is very present in DAI without ever explicitly showing up in the plot. There are ravens everywhere, the main demon threat is Nightmare (likely a subset of fear, and one of Dirthamen's ravens is Fear), there's a freaking temple to him that you can explore where it's pretty heavily implied in a codex entry that Dirthamen vanished prior to the Veil going up (the Highest One they reference was a high priest in the days of Elvhenan rather than in the shattered aftermath and only Dirthamen is mentioned, which to me suggests that this was separate to the Evanuris being locked away), you get a shield in the temple that was supposedly used to commune with Dirthamen and which Cole mentions was left for "us" (presumably meaning the Inquisition, although he doesn't clarify) if he's in the party... Dirthamen is like this unseen presence floating behind the scenes throughout every part of the game that touches on the ancient elves, but he never appears in-person or is brought up in dialogue. It just feels like the game is setting up him being a major presence, and then he just... never appears. I genuinely do feel like he's going to make an appearance in DAV, and given as far as I'm aware not a single codex entry or character (even Solas doesn't have anything negative to say if you interact with his mural in Mythal's temple) has anything bad to say about him I have hope he'll be at the very least neutral, possibly on Rook's side. It's also fascinating to me that Mythal has this grand, flashy temple with all these fancy rituals to keep it locked up and a guard of ancient elves bound to wake only in order to die to protect it and meanwhile Dirthamen has a hole in the ground completely faded into obscurity and possibly protected only by the power of the shield you get there, that feels like it means something, but I don't know what so I'll just leave it at "it's fascinating to me".

Second, the statue behind Flemythal in the Fade when you go to get Kieran back. The one with a sword in its back, gushing blood almost directly onto her head? Now I've seen people claim that it's a statue of Mythal, but the thing is it's not, and I can prove it. We see statues of Mythal, a few different ones in fact (all pulled from her wiki page):

None of those are the statue behind her in the Fade. The statue behind her in the Fade is this one:

And it's not a case of Bioware giving Mythal yet another statue design, because that design matches—if not exactly then near enough that it would be very weird for them to connect them to two different Evanuris—another one; this one, to be precise:

And this statue is associated with a codex entry: the Raven. Yep, as you will have already noticed if you hovered over those links, these statues are of Dirthamen. Now, there being a statue of Dirthamen looming over Flemythal in the Fade—a place that often runs on symbolism and imagery—marked by maybe the clearest image of betrayal possible in the realm of symbolism, a literal sword in the back, and bleeding almost onto her head seems pretty random! Unless of course she was involved in and possibly responsible for that betrayal. Certainly it doesn't imply she was on Dirthamen's side! It's also fascinating that the statue appears to be crying blood; it could mean nothing and just be a cool visual, but if we assume for a moment that this theory is correct and Mythal killed Dirthamen and was killed in revenge and that's when Solas started on the Veil it could be related to the sheer amount of death that was set in motion by Dirthamen's death, especially if my hope is right and Dirthamen is at worst a fairly neutral person rather than a bad one (and so probably wouldn't want to see all that death and destruction happen because of him). I don't know! All this stuff could absolutely mean nothing, it's all visual metaphor and background reference and I fully admit that I'm probably reading too much into it. But I think it's a very fun theory that makes a lot of sense—provided Solas's claims aren't taken at face value, which I'd argue they absolutely should not be given... everything about Solas, keeping important information from us is basically his whole shtick and he has very good reason to convince both us and himself that Mythal's death was 100% unjust and wrong given what he did to the world in response—and also I want to be able to gloat that I knew it on the off chance that I am right so here it is!

Solas: She was the best of them. She cared for her people. She protected them. Solas: She was a voice of reason. And in their lust for power, they killed her.

Either Solas or Bioware is once again missing a few steps in the sequence of events that led to Mythal's death. I mean, let's be real here: if Mythal was truly someone who cared for and protected her people instead of treating them like objects and tools (unlikely given the whole magic well that forces any who drink from it to serve Mythal with her physically taking control of their body to force them to do what she wants even if the actions she compels them to undertake are entirely against their own wishes and beliefs situation, that's not exactly loving and protective behaviour) and the Evanuris were truly all eeeeeeeeeeeevil slavers willing to do anything for their own gain... she would not be any threat to them. That's why the magisters who practice large-scale human sacrifice are so feared; what they do is horrific, but they do do it for a reason. That shit does seem to give insane boosts in power!

And speaking of things being done for reasons: even if we believe that Mythal was the voice of reason among the Evanuris (possible, but given her general behaviour across the games... I don't know, I'm reserving judgement until we meet some of the others) and the others were all power-hungry, that doesn't automatically translate into them killing her. Sure, maybe they wanted her to stop nagging, but if they all ruled their own areas they likely wouldn't see much of her, and besides that in the legends we see they all seem to listen to her pretty willingly. And also... she's described as the leader of the pantheon. She was in charge. Assuming the legends have some basis in fact, she was the leader and mother figure most of the Evanuris were bound to follow and obey, and we know she does have a fondness for stripping notable followers of their free will (in fact she seems almost giddy about getting Quiz/Morrigan under her control). How sure are we that they didn't have very good reason to want her dead? It's not like Solas would admit to it given his blind spot for her, and it would make more sense than "She was nice and they were all Evil McEvil so they murdered her in cold blood for no real reason"...

Thoughts on Charlie in Underworld!

OK OK OK THANK YOU FOR ASKING THIS BECAUSE 500 LETTERS ON THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE ISN'T QUITE ENOUGH TO GIVE MY ENTIRE OPINION THIS IS GONNA BE VERY RAMBLY, SPOILERY AND PROBABLY PRETTY LONG SO I'M CONTINUING UNDER THE CUT

So first of all I gotta say that I played Underworld Office practically when it came out by finding it a little randomly. I absolutely fell in love with the game in pretty much all of it's aspects - be it the art, the characters or the story- , got obsessed with it for around a month, and then it went a little to the back. But what I can tell you is that I loved Charlie practically the second they were introduced because they're quite literally the kind of character I love the second they're shown to us so OBVIOUSLY when my friends told me that there was gonna be a sequel ABOUT CHARLIE I was hooked.

And now that the game came out, boy I was NOT disappointed.

First of all, the main cast is just as awesome as it was in Underworld Office. I love Eugene as much as I did in Underworld Office, maybe even more, I've always loved him, i'll always love him, he's my son (and one of highest kins but that's a story for another day). He's all grown up (which made me strangely proud of him) and yet still as much of a kind-hearted, self-sacrificing dumbass who just wants what's best for everyone as he was back in the first game, but you can see that he came such a long way from the nervous-wreck he still kinda was even at the end of underworld office and he has friends and I'm so proud of him and his chapter WRECKED ME like HOLY SHIT WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME WRITERS THIS POOR GUY ALREADY SUFFERED ENOUGH. He deserves so much better and he's still such a lovable character to me partly because he's a really expressive character. Like a part that really hurt me was the moment where he has his fight with Charlie, on the illustration you can read his emotions so clearly I love him so much his anger at the end of chapter 6 is so justified and i empathize with him so much this guy can just do no wrong zoieieizozorhrjrike.

Hayden - who happened to be a character I was quite indifferent to in underworld office (i liked him and thought he was a good character but it didn't run deeper than that) - brought so much sympathy out of me I was NOT expecting that. He's genuinely such a cute character he's just a kid who's doing his best and it was heartbreaking to see his reactions to learning his parents were going to have a new baby like you can sense his anguish (OR maybe it's me being way too invested in fictional characters IDK) and holy crap I melted inside when he asked for his brother to be named Charlie and absolutely died inside when I had to let him become an evil spirit to get an ending and he's also on one of my favorite illustrations of the game so THAT'S A PLUS IG

Boss. I am SO GLAD that Boss FINALLY got more depth than he used to have. I get that the entire point of the character is that we don't know lots of stuff about him but it feels great to have at least just a bit more informations about his story. Boss is the embodiment of the expression the road to hell is paved with good intentions. He wanted to protect himself but at the same time didn't want anyone to get hurt because of that and ended up causing more pain in the end because he handled all the situations with all the member of the office in a shitty way because no bestie hiding the truth from everyone and drowning in your own guilt isn't the right way to protect people. I love him and I dislike him at the same time he's my poor little meow meow.

River. I really liked her in Underworld Office. I still really like her. We FINALLY know what her death was and my god the circumstances of her death are awful and I wish she could have found peace instead of sulking in her own anger and hate she deserved so much better and yes much better means GO APESHIT YOU DESERVE IT. She's just such a fun character and didn't deserve the stuff that was thrown at her in her life.

Joan is great. I love Joan. You don't love Joan? Tbh I can understand why, but really her being kind of a stuck-up grandma is the strength of her character I think. Her story is heartbreaking like she didn't mean to kill Bill and I understand why she covered up the stuff but that doesn't make it right and Bill's anger is so justified but his actions are really not and kzjejdkzlsmmdld BOTH WATCHING HER EXILING HERSELF WITH BILL OR BECOMING AN EVIL SPIRIT HURT LIKE SHIT HELP.

Sean I actually don't have a lot to say about him except that we don't deserve him. He's so sweet and, much like Eugene, just wants what's best for everyone and tries to do his best to make the underworld better for everyone and we really don't deserve him my sweet son ily 😭

And now for Charlie. Charlie my absolute beloved. Like I said at the beginning, Charlie was my favorite character practically the second we were introduced to them in Underworld Office. Before Charlie in Underworld came out, when trying to theorize why Charlie was the way they were in Underworld Office, my theory was that Charlie was someone who died surrounded by indifference, and seems I was both right and wrong. Charlie lived among people's indifference of their situation. Their father was awful I don't think I need to explain why and their mom was just trying to survive and only did what she could do in her situation and Charlie just felt like they were ignored, them and their suffering and when Mike came into the picture, I like to think that Charlie wanted to have Mike as a friend, but they just never learned how to have a healthy relationship, be it friendship or anything else and because of that they just kept on telling themselves that they were pathetic for dwelling on their situation because Mike's was supposedly worse and i'm sure they blamed themselves so much for what they did to Mike and what happened to him and their mother after what he did to them both before and after their death and just. Their story made me tear up each time it came they never meant to hurt anyone they were just scared and while it doesn't make any of the things they did right it explains so much. And after losing their memory. My god the SNARK. THE CYNICISM. THE SARCASM. THE ANGER AND YET THE GUILT. JUST EVERYTHING. Charlie just has such a strong personality and is also a really expressive character and I absolutely love them for it. Basically even without knowing shit about themselves, the kid they're supposed to protect or the people they're supposed to work with Charlie knows one thing, they were a fucking menace and they're sure gonna be staying like that. And yet even while being a menace who's also really bad at communicating their feelings, Charlie understands other's feelings way better than they would probably care to admit. Like they say towards the end of the game, they're a shitty person who's done shitty things but that doesn't change the fact that in the few days they spent with the underworld office's workers they've come a long way from who they were as a ghost terrorizing people in the subway just to feel seen and not just because they didn't remember anything because they clearly feel guilty when they're about to turn entirely dark after remembering their past they just went through so much and didn't deserve any of it they just wanted to be left alone and my god I already loved charlie before but now I'm just like KQKDJEISOKZKRKRJ. AND I BARELY SCRATCHED THE SURFACE OF WHAT I WANTED TO SAY ABOUT CHARLIE BUT I JUST. CAN'T FIND THE WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW DEEPLY I FEEL ABOUT THEM. I JUST LOVE THEM SM.

NOW IF YOU'RE STILL READING THIS I CAN MOVE ON.

I'm not gonna dwell too much on how much I love the art style of the game, or how I think the design are great, be it with the shapes, the colors, or the expressions of the characters who are always very expressive, which really makes it clear to guess what they're feeling even to a dumbass like me because I already made you read through my thoughts on the characters.

The story in itself is great. I don't really know what else to say. I love the idea of the workers deciding to unseal Charlie to keep Eugene safe. I LOVE EUGENE BEING AN ADULT I AM SO PROUD OF HIM. I am not exactly a fan of blackmail but y'know, I can understand why they would doubt Charlie. The fact that Charlie has amnesia is also a really great way to carry the scenario and to make them empathize with the other characters of the cast, be it by empathizing with them and validating their anger because they know what it feels like to feel alone, hurt or afraid and they know what it feels like to feel wronged or, like in Joan's case, by calling them out on their bullshit like others should have done to them. The fact that Boss has hidden the truth about how good and evil work to the others is great, and heartbreaking when you see the impact it has on both River and Eugene, who both trusted him, and i also think it's hilarious that Charlie ends up being the only level-headed person in the last chapter considering how they were in Underworld Office. Serves again to show how much they've grown during the game. SAME HERE I BARELY SCRATCHED THE SURFACE BECAUSE I JUST CAN'T FIND THE WORDS BUT THE SUBJECTS THE GAME BRINGS UP ARE REALLY WELL HANDLED I JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO WORD IT ANY OTHER WAY.

Speaking of which, I can now talk about the relationships

First of all I'd like to say I absolutely adore Eugene and Charlie as a duo. They're legit a great duo and as a trio with Hayden they're just as great. Just Eugene's level-headedness, kindness and naivety mixed in with Charlie's free-spirit, hot-headed and desechanted self makes them work together really well, especially since Charlie, due to their lack of tie to any of the members of the team and pretty much hating Boss on sight, isn't being lowkey manipulated by Boss because they're too naive. Plus who doesn't love two absolute dumbasses working together?

I also love Charlie's and River's dynamic. River is absolutely unhinged and Charlie is not having a good time because of that, especially since they didn't exactly take well the fact that River doubted them because they used to be dark. I like them because, due to them being fundamentally shadows like River says, they're way more similar than meets the eye and while what makes Eugene and Charlie work together is the fact that they're opposites, what makes River and Charlie works is that they're similar. Also I really like the fact that we're given the choice to be somewhat thoughtful of River in Collapse.

The last relationship I can think of is the one between Charlie and Sean. Because while it may be a really background one, it's just very symbolic and I like the conversation they have in the sixth chapter.

OH AND THE ENDINGS. I LOVE THEM ALL BUT LIKE,,, THE ONLY CHARLIE IN UNDERWORLD ENDING IS MY FAVORITE I JUST. I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH. LIKE YOU GO CHARLIE YOU GO EUGENE YOU GO MY CHILDREN YOU'RE DOING GREAT.

BUT ALSO THE SWAMP OF EVIL SPIRITS ENDING IS SO COOL I LOVE IT. I LOVE THE IDEA OF IT EVEN IF IT'S SO PAINFUL LIKE BASICALLY FROM WHAT I UNDERSTOOD EUGENE'S SPIRIT WAS DESTROYED LIKE WHY DO YOU SO THIS TO ME BUT ALSO.... I LOVE THE IDEA OF CHARLIE JUST HANGING AROUND BUT THE THOUGHT THAT CHARLIE IS JUST STUCK WITH GNAWING GUILT BUT THE MEMORY OF EUGENE JUST WON'T LET THEM TURN INTO A MONSTER IS HEART-WRENCHING LIKE CHARLIE I'M SO SORRY YOU DESERVE BETTER.

AND THE GOOD ENDING IS A GOOD ENDING SO OF COURSE I LIKE IT LIKE YOU GO CHILDREN KEEP BEING A BUNCH OF DUMBASSES BUT BE BETTER DUMBASSES THAN YOU COULD BE WITH BOSS AS YOUR BOSS.
