I'm excited for your thoughts on the new season if/when you share them
It has legit taken me 3 days to come to terms with Act 1. Enough to be able to speak about it. Gunna apologize in advance for the wall of text, and Iâm hiding it under a break for spoiler reasons. Also prefacing with these are all just my opinions. All are free to disagree with me and RB with discussions/theories etc. just donât be a dick about it, Iâm not engaging in any discourse.
Ok. So. I have mixed feelings, and Iâm aware that this is because I donât have the whole story yet. So this is all contingent on how the rest of the season plays out.
First and foremost, Iâm⊠wildly swinging back and forth between love and disappointment for Viktorâs arc. So first the negative, and Iâll try to keep it brief because a lot of people have already expressed this and I donât need to be beating that particular dead horse.
Viktor has had his agency, his bodily autonomy, his original ideas and nearly everything that made him Viktor stripped away. Nothing so far has been his choice. And while this could have worked just fine for an original character, he wasnât. So there is a massive disconnect between what this character was/should have been. In League, it was all his choice (albeit with a healthy dose of mental illness thrown in, but still). AND it was very heavily suggested that many of the augmentations he performed werenât as extensive as he lead everyone to believe (namely the controlling/dousing of his emotions). But it appears that whatever the Hexcore did to him, itâs real. He is clearly having a difficult time accessing his emotions, and if he can feel anything, it is limited to the point of him being completely stoic. And the thing with stoic characters is that you obliterate any emotional payoff for the audience. Itâs very hard to make an audience feel an emotional connection to a characterâs story arc when they themselves donât feel anything (I have a theory about this though, but Iâll address it a little later in this post). And then there is the issue of Blitzcrank. Blitz was Viktorâs whole world, after his exile. How are they going to swing that? Like, Iâm not even asking for Blitz to be in Arcane (that would be great, but I really donât think they have time). But I stg if they take Blitz away from Viktor, make them someone elseâs invention (my suspicion is Heimer or he finds the idea in Skyâs journal)⊠Iâm sorry but no. This was Viktorâs idea, Viktorâs genius. I will genuinely be extremely upset if they take that from him too.
Then there is the whole situation with Sky. First, this girl was fridged. She was nothing but a plot device and continues to be just that. It feels hollow and forced, especially now that heâs hallucinating her as some sort of penance for what he did. (I have seen the prevalent theory that itâs the Hexcore using her image and his guilt to manipulate him, given that it âateâ her, and we have seen it âmanipulateâ him before when it punished him for trying to destroy it). But back to Skyâhe barely acknowledged that poor girl. The reason for that can be argued, whether itâs because heâs gay or because he was just so wrapped up in his one-track minded research. But regardless, there just wasnât enough setup between those two for this whole thing to have as much weight and meaning as I think itâs supposed to. Honestly to me (TO ME) it reeks of comphet. It feels like that random woman they threw at Poe Dameron to No Homo him. Iâm not even asking for Jayvik canon. But the creators were well aware of this ship, after all itâs the second most popular ship in this show and itâs been around since 2012 when Jayce was literally created for Viktor. Iâm asking for the bare minimum hereâthat itâs left open-ended as it was in League, open for interpretation.
Last negative I have is the whole Viktor Jesus thing. The first problem is I am pretty violently agnostic, and messiah narratives have never spoken to me. I donât enjoy them, they feel weak. The whole âordained by a higher powerâ thing is just⊠stale. Especially when this character originally had no higher power, he gave it to himself through his own hard work and ingenuity. Honestly, Viktorâs original arc is about as far from a Jesus allegory as you can possibly get. And I am absolutely terrified that theyâre going to end said Jesus arc the way youâd expectâwith him dying for it. Which leaves the moral of his story âdisabled man should have just accepted that he was going to die despite the fact that it was the oppression and xenophobia of Piltover that left him out to dry, without proper health care, accessibility, equality, or equity that lead to his terminal diagnosis to begin with.â Which is a very oppressor-centric narrative and we do not need another one of those.
Sorry, I know I said Iâd keep the negatives brief, and that was⊠not. My bad. But moving on!
Iâm not saying I didnât enjoy it, I did. I am working to embrace this new Viktor narrative and work it into my brain in a way that doesnât ruin the ship for me. So without further ado, the positives.
Jayce.
Jayce.
Jayce.
Iâd have to go back and time it, but it feels like he got more screen time in this first act than the entirety of the first season combined, and his character shined for it. It humanized him in ways season one never did. Heâs caring, heâs devoted, and he loved Viktor! No matter what kind of love you think it is, it proves he loved Viktor without a doubt. He carried Viktor several city blocks to the lab to save him, and then YES, he broke his promise about the Hexcore because he couldnât stand the thought of losing him!
And heâs funny! (The scene where he picks up the regular sized hammer in the fight against Renni and made that âthis is ironicâ face?? And then basically the entire interaction with Ekko? The hand me a tome thing, and then when he basically pulled this when Ekko suggested âso this is all your fault cuz you pissed off the Arcaneâ:
GOD that shit was great. Jayceâs personality just shined, and maybe itâs too much to hope, but maybe this will douse a little of the hate. Because instead of being a subtle hint at all of those things being true about him, itâs now overt. And when people lack media literacy, the hints have to be overt.
And th-the. The h. The HUG SCENE. I donât think I will ever emotionally recover from that scene. Starting with Viktor who, despite being clearly emotionallyâI dunno, vacant I guessâsounded so lost and scared when he said âwhat am I?â For me, it was whispers of that scene from The Last Unicorn: âwhat have you done to me?â And my poor sweet Jayce, who clearly hasnât left this damn lab except to go to Cassandraâs memorial. Sleeping on the desk and bleeding through his bandages because he doesnât want to spend a moment away from Viktor while he ârecovers.â And his euphoric response when he finds Viktor alive, when he realizes he hasnât lost him. And I OWE HIM AN APOLOGY, goddamn. I said in a post that âJayce will not understand.â I thought that was how Arcane was gunna start the divorce. But Jayce genuinely did not care, as long as his lover friend was alive. And just⊠Jayce being so affectionate through this entire scene. The hug obviously, but also blurting things he thought heâd never get to say to ViktorââIâm resigning from the council, my place was always here in the lab with you.â
And⊠the hug itself. I know weâre all analyzing it frame by goddamn frame, but I see exactly what everyone else seesâthere is a moment where Viktor very subtly smiles. But itâs gone in an instant, and it turns bittersweet. LOOK AT HIM.
There is something there, itâs just buried. Deep beneath the surface. It seems to say âI want this, I have wanted this for so long.â But then he realizes something, something I donât think weâre meant to understand yet. Maybe that he doesnât feel anything about it anymore, and he recognizes that this should upset him and it doesnât. Or perhaps itâs something more along the lines of âitâs too late.â Whatever it is, I think this is the exact moment he knows he has to walk away. Because he knows heâll cave to the affection, he said it himself. (Which is another thing entirely. His voice changes when he says that. Something in him is reacting to that word. Maybe heâs fighting against it, or maybe heâs fighting to get it back. But something made him almost growl that word.)
Which leads me to my final thought (for this post anyway, cuz itâs turning into a novel); Viktor is still in there. He can still feel things, I just think theyâre extremely muted by whatever the Hexcore did/continues to do to him, or he has to fight to express them. Because he also smiled at the hallucination of Sky after he âcuredâ Huck. And if he feels nothing, he wouldnât have been âjoyousâ at the thought of her being proud of him, approving of the good things heâs trying to do in her memory. He wouldnât crave that validation, that vindication from her. So Iâm hopeful that we start to see this shell crack a little, especially if those visions of Sky are the Hexcore manipulating him through guilt. It will start to erode him, no matter how stoic he has become. And literally the only thing Iâm clinging to is that Jayce will see this and try to pull him out. âHeâs still in there and I have to save him.â And that maybe itâll start to work.

This encapsulates why I think it should've actually been Jacen Syndulla in Sabine's place if they REALLY needed to give Ahsoka a "Padawan" character to play with.
Jacen being very young would hit at her feelings about having been assigned early as a Padawan, especially if he is with her because he ran away from his guardians (whether that's Hera or whether he was staying with Sabine on Lothal at the time maybe, it doesn't really matter), so he has that same sort of impetuous recklessness that she and Anakin both had that gets him into trouble.
Jacen's youth and the fact that he'll never know his father would provide a really good explanation for him doing something as stupid as going along with Baylan just to get Ezra back. Maybe he just wants to connect to the person who everyone talks about like he's Jacen's brother. Maybe he wants to save Ezra because they CAN'T save Kanan and this is the closest he feels he'll ever get to getting his dad back. Maybe he just wants to prove himself to his family because they keep wanting to protect him and keep him safe and won't take him anywhere even remotely dangerous and he gets why, he does, they lost both Kanan and Ezra already, but if he can get Ezra back then maybe they'll finally let him DO things! Maybe he wants to get Ezra back because even though Ahsoka and Luke are theoretically there as options, he's insistent that it has to be Ezra.
Jacen's a blank slate character, we know who his parents are and he has a name, but other than that, he doesn't have a personality already which means he's basically just as good as an original character in this scenario. He needs to be fleshed out in a way Sabine simply does not, and so giving him a fatal flaw to overcome can only ADD to his character rather than taking AWAY from his character the way it did with Sabine.
And of course, Jacen being Kanan's child provides an obvious reason for his Force sensitivity. Even if you went with the idea that he WASN'T Force sensitive, or wasn't SHOWING Force sensitivity, there's more reason for Jacen to either believe that he COULD be Force sensitive or to just be really invested in becoming a Jedi no matter what. It might even be more compelling if he genuinely isn't Force sensitive at all, but he feels like that's the only connection he has to Kanan, the only way he can remember and honor his father he never met, and his arc over the course of the season is to learn to let go of that. He doesn't have to live up to Kanan and Ezra, he doesn't have to BE Kanan and Ezra, he can just be himself, and he doesn't need to be Force sensitive OR a Jedi in order to be worthwhile.
But if you need Ahsoka to have a Force sensitive child, it makes way more sense for Jacen to BE Force sensitive since there's an obvious connection there, and Jacen being a blank slate character means that there's absolutely no proof that he ISN'T Force sensitive in prior media that would make that choice really confusing (unlike Sabine where she's so clearly established as someone who isn't Force sensitive throughout Rebels and so they had to work REALLY REALLY HARD to explain why Ahsoka would ever take her as an apprentice and why Sabine would think this was a reasonable choice to make).
Sabine might not be his actual mother or his primary guardian, but she's somewhere in the realm of being his aunt/older sister and the connection there would clearly be very strong anyway, especially if Hera had dropped Jacen off on Lothal and Sabine was supposed to be looking after him for a while as Hera dealt with some other things on Coruscant or whatever and it's HER that Jacen ends up running away from.
It's not even like we haven't seen a variation of this done really well already with the Kenobi show where Leia is ALSO quite young in comparison to her titular character Jedi master counterpart. So Jacen being young doesn't have to be a reason for why he COULDN'T have fulfilled with this role in the Ahsoka show just fine if they needed a pre-established character with an easily explained connection to Ezra who would be willing to give up everything to save him and who could become Ahsoka's new padawan.
The only reason it had to be Sabine is because Rebels set up that Ahsoka and Sabine were going to go look for Ezra in their epilogue and that story got combined with whatever the original Ahsoka show narrative was going to be, which likely involved some sort of padawan character for Ahsoka to help parallel her relationship with Anakin. So in order for Sabine to remain a main player in the narrative and fit in with the already pre-established set-up from the Rebels epilogue, Sabine got slotted into that role. That was clearly supposed to be Sabine's story and putting someone else into the role of Ahsoka's padawan sidelines Sabine from the story quite a lot.
So even if you do put in Jacen or some other new character in the role of Ahsoka's padawan, you either run into the issue of sidelining Sabine in her own story, or you exacerbate the issue that already existed of there being too many main characters within one narrative which muddied so many things about the show since it was impossible to tell what the story was actually ABOUT or whose story we were meant to be following. The stupid show was a mess and it couldn't have been fixed by just tweaking one or two things. It needed to be wholesale ripped apart into at MINIMUM two separate shows if not three or even four separate shows (Hera's whole prequel to the Sequels narrative about the New Republic didn't belong in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka's narrative, or the Search for Ezra storyline; and if the Mandoverse needed an "Empire Strikes Back"-esque middle part, it should have been its own thing rather than co-opting Ahsoka and Sabine's completely unrelated stories).
The Search for Ezra as a story, and especially the idea of continuing the Rebels story through Sabine rather than through Ezra and shining a spotlight on her in a way that didn't happen very often in Rebels, is a GREAT concept. Whether it was exploring the edges of their known galaxy or going into a whole new galaxy, it opened up a lot of ways to be really creative while telling what could've been a really great parallel story between Ezra's survival and Sabine's search.
Ahsoka dealing with her past and her feelings about Anakin's betrayal was a necessary next step to her story that needed to be told and I was genuinely really intrigued to see how that got handled and how Ahsoka slowly learned to let go of all of her fears and pain and learned to embrace being a Jedi again after so many years. I REALLY wanted to see Ahsoka find her way back to reclaiming that identity after she had given it up and then had it ripped away from her. I wanted to see how Ahsoka taking back her own story was integrated with Ahsoka dealing with her feelings about Anakin's betrayal.
Both of these stories are GREAT on their own and really provide a way to highlight some of the best female characters Star Wars has ever had.
It's too bad what we got ended up being the most Frankenstein'd hackjob I have possibly ever seen that butchered two of the best female characters Star Wars has ever had.
Yknow, a lot of the Sabine characterization problems in ahsoka (having act like an impulsive teenager when she's almost thirty and was never like that even when she was a teenager and had grown out of her negative teenager traits by the end of Rebels) could have been solved if "Sabine" was a different character
And this "not sabine" could have still been connected to Sabine
How
Adopted daughter
Have the role of Sabine in Ahsoka be taken by an adopted child of hers, someone young and impulsive, has heard stories of Ezra Bridger and how much her mother and her adopted family that is the Ghost crew misses him and wants nothing more than to bring him back to make her family complete again, to the point of making several dangerous mistakes
And it also would have fixed the bullshit "sabine has the force now" nonsense

Be honest, what are your thoughts on appledash? Do you hate it or its more of not a big deal
Not a big deal to me. I like it, I see all the appeals, I just personally like Rarijack more.
#ask me#anon#if you wanna know why i like rarijack more i just think they're a healthier depiction of a domestic and longterm relationship#appledash gives me the vibes of gfs that'll eventually break up#because from s1 to s8 their relationship and communication with each other on serious things never really matures or grows#they were competitive and petty in s1 and they were competitive and petty in s8#arguably worse cuz in that s8 episode their dynamic becomes so toxic they almost cause a student under their care to drown#both of them have a superiority complex that's constantly conflicting with each other and it never really gets resolved#but with rarijack there's a very clear arc of development you can follow in their character#and multiple episodes show how they'll argue and eventually come back together and apologize and communicate and work to better things#you can watch them grow to like and understand each other. in s1 aj scoffs and makes fun of rarity's work in fashion#but in a later season (after some conflict) aj says that she doesn't understand fashion but she knows it means a lot to rarity so it means#a lot to her too. and that's what love is to me. âit didn't mean anything to me until it meant something to youâ#it's genuinely really sweet and i'd argue rarijack /feels/ the most romantic out of all the main 6 ships. through arguing they grow closer#which is how it's supposed to be in relationships that last! you argue to work out your interpersonal problems and understand each other#(which is why it's genuinely kinda baffling to me that appledash ended up being canonically married because they never gave me those vibes)#but it really doesn't matter. they're cartoon horses! have fun with them

ashâs sinnoh team is so good (mostly) and im fond of the core six and then you look closer and you remember that only half of them were treated all that well
#it only gets worse when you count ambipom.#staraptor is sorta just there to me tbh. doesnt help that it stayed in its middle stage most of the time which i dislike#but thats a personal thing. besides that it was ok. buizel was treated pretty fine too#but i stand by that gliscor was done dirty. i dont get why people go ââoh it got training and became a badass!! thats GREAT writing!!ââ#when she immediately gets thrashed in the league anyways (even if she powers through and gives an awesome fight for that goddamn drapion)#its still not a great way to reintroduce her and its one of the parts of ash v paul i dont actually like all that much#like cmon infernape gets the biggest win in that fight#can he at least give this one to gliscor. please. or have torterra do it he is fucking begging for mercy#but anyways ig thats forgivable bc of drapion. back to my og point tho i dont get that as a defense#because how is it better writing for gliscor to get that treatment offscreen when we couldve had a really cathartic training arc instead#because she had a pretty inconsistent win/loss rate that couldve been addressed further#especially because the lake acuity/sinnoh league team parallel was so important. it just muddies the equation up to bench her#i think it gets forgiven because of the league and because ambipom was treated MUCH worse#like damn at least gliscor got to come back at all. at least her departure was related to what she wanted#but that doesnt change the fact that it just makes the league feel more clunky and awkward than it should#idk. why do people think a pokemon getting shipped off for offscreen training is good writing. i genuinely dont understand it#its always felt lazy and cheap to me. why is this pokemon we havent seen strong? uh. it trained offscreen? idiot?#tbf i think charizard and heracross also sorta suffer from this. heracross especially#he shipped that thing off so early in johto why am i supposed to believe its this super powerful battler#i mean. besides that its a heracross. but still. heracross v scizor is awesome but it doesnt necessarily explain its later feats#(ik heracross was sent to oaks lab not sent to training but still)#echoed voice

I personally view the possibility of a romantic relationship between them as detrimental to their individual characters and it's not really something people want to talk about, which I get, but like there's a really deeper way to view their relationship other than "haha cute wholesome dramatic teen superhero romance" like on a metanarrative level. Because you'd think all the other things in spiderman mythos the movie is critiquing and expanding they'd address the very obvious elephant in the room with gwen but oop-
Yeah I think I'd rock w Gwiles more as a romantic ship if Gwen's role as a love interest wasn't so thematically dissonant. If they were gonna hijack Miles' story like that I think they should've had a better reason than justification for a romantic relationship. And then they added Margo to the mix so like what was the point of all that lmaooo
#i know this sounds counterintuitive. but i genuinely think Gwen's arc as a character would've been cleaner had they not made her#a secondary protagonist#like we had her motivation and her friendship with Miles is the catalyst for her learning to open up#and also to realize that there are possibilities outside of what your story is âsupposed to beâ#that's it! that's all she needed!#the romance doesn't work bc even characters who show up for like 5 minutes have more of an impact on Miles than she did for the entirety#of itsv#this story is fundamentally about Miles and so that is going to reflect in how other characters' arcs go#to suddenly decide to make it a love story is kind of a doomed endeavor imo#i hope any of that makes sense#tl;dr: they should've just given gwen a solo film im sorry#ask#blabbering

MY SON MY CHILDE MY BOY!!!! I'm so excited u don't understand whooooooo!!! I'm so ready for him to cause the fake french maybe also british (or even spanish, honestly vaguely 'western' european) people so many issues.
I can imagine in my heart of hearts off screen he is causing one totally canon Lieutenant Claude Anouilh of the Fontaine Armed Forces endless issues. I can believe.
But in all seriousness I'm super interested in this because of the potential for some more Harbinger interaction. Other than Siggy and him (and some implied mostly off screen interactions) we really don't have any and Arlecchino in particular is also there. She and Childe have some honestly super fascinating contradictory beliefs in child raising (childe does anything to keep their innocence while she seemingly raises them so they would be prepared for anything regardless of what they have to go through). Other than Pulcinella and Columbina (though all 3 for very different reasons), Arlecchino is definitely the one I'm most interested in seeing interact with Childe.
#avem rambling#genshin impact#fic stuff#smfwtwd#kind of lol#I'm talking of claude pfft i can justify it#ahhh I can't wait to write this silly side character who was supposed to only show u for 5 minutes again#his arc and the fontaine stuff I have planned over all is very exciting to me#i've hinted at it a bit with the pirate stuff from last chapter but ahhahaah#canon don't destroy my plans too much pls#also if not clear I want Pulcinella interactions with childe because he is morally questionable grandpa#and columbina because shes the only one childe doesn't want to fight#and I'm so curious about what she feels about him in turn#I just really want her to be the only harbinger who genuinely likes him (other than nella)#but childe just gets such rancid vibes from her he doesn't get it#a comedy errors of colombina going 'omg cute sort of human baby boy'#and childe 'ahhh why is scary angel lady following me'#ok ive gone off topic ill stop now pfft

my biggest personal byler proof is just how much they remind me of my first queer relationship before we started dating
queer characters are incredibly easy to fuck over, even without intention. often spelled out or intensely sexualised to prevent misunderstandings for a mostly heterosexual audience, queer storylines are exaggerated and thus become unrealistic.
stranger things doesnât do that with its queer characters. take robin:
this scene is done beautifully. genuinely beautifully.
robin admits her feelings for tammy and how she locked them away, not just because tammy didnât like her back, but because she is a queer girl in the 80s. her feelings are unnatural and unwelcome in hawkins.
steveâs acceptance of robin in this scene makes people forget how horrifically this could have ended:
As for Mike and Will
you donât write a perfect representation of mutual teenage queer pining between childhood friends by accident.
queer pining is quiet and suppressed (especially for young people and ESPECIALLY in the 80s). It is unhealthy to suppress these feelings the way queer people tend to, itâs beyond the typical âsecret crushesâ straight people experience. queer pining can destroy people when theyâre not supported.
through robins character, and wills arc in season four, we can see clearly the duffer brothers understand the nature of queer love, and wish to do it justice.
will ending up with some random last minute jock is unrealistic and does not do his character justice.
mike staying in an insecure relationship, constantly worried his girlfriend will grow out of him and leave him, rather than accepting willâs unconditional love for him, accepting his own love for will and letting himself be who he is, does not do his character justice.
even so, if they tried to set up byler in a way that would come across clear to the GA, it would, by default, become unrealistic and unrepresentative.
neither are yet able to admit to close friends and family they are queer, but they are supposed to convey that part of themselves to an (understandably) dense/heteronormative mainstream audience?
queer teenage love is not the same as straight teenage love, it doesnât shock me that the majority of the audience isnât able to pick up on byler beyond wills feelings, and theyâre not supposed to.
we all say what we see, they donât see the queer love brewing because theyâve never experienced it, theyâve never been mike and theyâve never been will. theyâve been max and lucas and nancy, steve, jonathan, etc etc
doesnât make their heteronormative perspective accurate, they are just straight. they understand will and mike the same they do lucas and dustin. mike says they are friends, they have no reason to think otherwise. they do not know what queer love actually looks like, the duffer brothers do. the actors do. we do.
you are not delusional. you are queer.
if byler was widely agreed upon at this point in the story, it would not be an accurate representation of queer romance. that is the point.
my moneys on the latter and they better get every award for it.

Heâs so oblivious to ppl liking him itâs INFURIATING SOMETIMES. Every time someone flirts with him to goes, whoosh! Over his head. It might be a self esteem thing or a childhood thing or bro is just dense in the head
All of your friends know you like Charlie, all of Charlieâs friends know, all of his coworkers know, itâs literally everyone BUUT him
You try and drop subtle hints that just became more and more and more obvious as time went on. Til you were dropping absolute bombshells on Charlie, but nothing
âCharlie youâd make like, a REALLY good boyfriend ya know. Youâre probably even MY DREAM man, ya know ANY girl would be lucky to have you as her boyfriend. Ya know ID be honored to date you even!â âAw thnxs man youâre like, literally so sweet.â One of these days you swear to fucking god
You gave him a bouquet of roses on Valentineâs Day and he just said âoh thatâs so nice of you man but I got like major pollen allergies.â He forgot what day it was
Itâs infuriating, like genuinely gut wrenching at some points. You donât want to give up though, not yet at least. You start trying other methods instead of flirting
You buy him food, gifts, a whole new pair of gaming headphones heâs been talking about none stop. You get a fucking âdude, youâre literally the coolest girl I knowâ
Once you offered to clean his entire apartment, because he seemed stressed out. He was so thankful but you still got âdudeâ zoned
You even tried cuddling with him, during a home movie. He held you in his arms and thought nothing of it. Just kept going on and on about âthe in-depth character arcâ of some movie guy you didnât care about
It wasnât until you looked him in the eyes and literally said âI want to kiss so fucking bad right now.â That it finally clicked for Charlie that you MIIIGHT have a crush on him but all he could stutter out was âI-i think I have a bag of like, chocolate in my freezer.â
After that night you kinda gave up, thinking that maybe YOU werenât getting his hints. I mean what guy wouldnât understand that was an profession of love
Charlie actually told Pim about it at work the next day, and was like âdo you think she likes me dude?â Glep and alan both stop what they were doing and just stare at him. Pim has his hands folded on the table trying to figure out if Charlie was fuckin w/ him too
âWhat?â âCharlie, she literally said she wanted to kiss.â â. . . Yeah and?â Bro needs to learn the alphabet before he can begin to spell it out man itâs bad. Once it clicks it fucking snapped into place and he rushed to give you a call

reading everyoneâs thoughts on the london special and marinetteâs actions have given me a serious case of deja vu in relation to the s5 finale, hereâs why
a very very VERY common reaction from the fandom i saw to the finale was âwhy are the writers letting gabriel get away with being a hero why isnât he being held accountable horrible finale horrible writing i hate this show etc etc etcâ
before i share my thoughts on this for like the thousandth time i just wanna mention i DID cry during the finale, partly because i was in shock and also because i HATED it. but now i genuinely believe it was one of if not the smartest thing the ml writers have ever conjured up and i just. fucking love it. (point is: i understand disliking it. that was me at some point, until i began to consider the implications of the âendingâ)
similarly, a reaction iâve seen to the london special (mainly from ml salters) is âwhy would the writers let marinette lie to the world when itâs so clearly morally wrong sheâs such a horrible person she needs to be held accountable blah blah blahâ
something both the s5 finale and the london special share is that THE ACTIONS THAT TAKE PLACE IN BOTH. ARE NOT MEANT. TO SIT WELL WITH THE AUDIENCE
NO writer on ml is trying to convince a fan that âgabriel was actually a hero because he made one selfless decision (that wasnât even that selfless?????)â. NO writer on ml is trying to convince a fan that âmarinette is completely right for hiding the truth about gabriel from not only adrien but also the whole world!!!!!! no one should ever find out!!!â
the entire point of the finale and special is to make the viewer uncomfortable, as we watch marinette sit with her questionable choices, watch adrien refer to his father as a hero and watch their class throw a party. none of this is supposed to make us feel at peace with the way this arc has concluded.
what people seem to be missing is that even if the s1-s5 arc has ended, the s6 arc is just beginning, CENTERED AROUND THE CHOICES THAT HAVE MADE US AS THE AUDIENCE FEEL SO UNCOMFORTABLE!! youâre completely ignoring the way the plot is set up if you think the writers are going to neglect gabrielâs storyline, because it is far from over.
i think itâs also important to mention that neither marinette nor adrien are at peace with whatâs happened (even if that was implied during the s5 finaleâthe london special has provided us with this new information on their emotional statuses). marinette is clearly being eaten alive by guilt, seeking confirmation throughout the entire special that protecting adrien from the truth was the morally correct decision. adrien was obviously affected by his fatherâs death (contrasting the idea that he just âthrew a partyâ without any emotional backlash), and will undoubtedly learn to grapple with his conflicting feelings on gabrielâs character throughout s6 (he sacrificed himself??? but he abused me??? but he saved ladybug and nathalie????? but he apparently assisted monarch?????)
POINT IS
no one is meant to be satisfied with the way things are in the miraculous universe at the moment. you arenât supposed to want the truth about what really went down during recreation to stay hidden. if you feel uncomfortable with the current situation our main characters are in, GOOD! please stop the discrediting the writers, because your discomfort means they have done their job well.
#if you read all of that ily#i love the writing of miraculous. if you donât thatâs okay.#HOWEVER the writers clearly know what theyâre doing because i have NEVER been so excited for a new season like i am for s6#GET HYPE PEOPLE MORE ANGST MORE QUESTIONABLE CHOICES MORE LIES MORE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!! Rambling thoughts of various Yuri manga Iâve read
1. Kase-San and Yamada (Morning Glories sequel series) by Hiromi Takashima
notice how Kaseâs name is first, which is representative of her being the main one to cause problems in their relationship
If you asked me what my favorite yuri manga was like 2-3 years ago, Iâd say Morning Glories and Kase San everytime. Every avid yuri fan has either read or watched Morning Glories because, at the time in 2010, it was groundbreaking, and I stand by the fact that the original series still holds up to this day. It was cute, sweet, wholesome and only had a few obligatory âwe love each other but weâre giRLsđłđłđłâ moments. Most of all it wasnât a pseudo-incest-straight-male-porn-pandering-garbage-festâalso known as âCitrusâ. Was it cliche at times? Yes, but they all are lol. Did they add to the dumb ass âblonde femme and dark hair mascâ trope? Also yes. But it was adorable and it was my first ever yuri so it holds a special place in my heart.
And it SEEMED like it was only going to get better in Kase San and Yamada, the sequel. The girls would be heading to college and the story could theoretically focus on more mature topics while they navigate their new relationship. Keyword: theoretically. Unfortunately, instead of exploring interesting relationship dynamics and storylines, the plot of each story arc boils down to: Kase is insecure because a man breathed next to Yamada or Kase is being completely insensitive to Yamadaâs feelingsâŠagainâŠâ> âšmiscommunication drama âšâ>big over dramatic apology sceneâ>boring makeup sex or other romantic gesture.
Literally thatâs how every single plotline goes. Kase is so goddamn dumb and insensitive to Yamadaâs feelings and Yamadaâs a complete doormat who can only stay mad for 0.2 seconds before getting pussy whipped like a spineless ass bitch. And for all that Yamada sacrifices for Kase; her hometown, her dreams, her apartment, what does she get in return from Kase? Oh thatâs right; bare minimum romantic gestures and a neglectful partner who canât even call her âgirlfriendâ in front of others:
Like I thought we were over this shit. Itâs been THREE years of them together, a whole anime production, and god knows how many irl years and weâre going back to âwe love each other but weâre giRLsđłđłđłâ WHY???
And then Kase later goes onto bet her entire three year relationship over the ugly bitch in the next panel, so now Iâm questioning whether or not Kase even loves Yamada with the amount of bullshit sheâs put her through. Which COULD be an interesting plot point, but Kase never gets any consequences for her actions and the creator genuinely thinks this is romantic and full of tension so Iâm 10000% positive that this arc, just like all the others, will end with some makeup sex and weâll be right back to step 1. Sigh.
2. Tamen De Gushi by Tan Jiu
Tamen De Gushiâs problems are interesting but itâs NOT because of the Chinese governmentđ
So todayâs dark haired masc and blonde femme of the day are Sun Jing and Qiu Tong, respectively. Their personalities arenât anything to write home about, if you read ANY high school yuri romance, then you know exactly what happens in this story beat for beat. But, BUT, however derivative it is, I find their dynamic very endearing and down to earth. Idk maybe itâs just the translation, but other yuri stories often have this very inauthentic âanimeâ vibe to it. Which is to say the characters act very cutesy, overly dramatic, and have this stilted, caricature-esque acting of how the creator thinks teenage girls are supposed act.
However, Iâm happy to report that Tamen De Gushi is a breath of fresh air in this regard. The characters and interactions they have are grounded and feel organic, which makes them feel like real people, not aliens pretending to be human. This really elevates the humor in turn, oh did I mention that Tamen De Gushi is super funny? Because Tamen De Gushi is super funny, hereâs one of my favorite panels and itâs all because of Sun Jingâs goofy ahh expression:
Like go girl give us nothing
If youâre wondering why I havenât spoke much about the actual romantic relationship between the girls, thatâs because there isnât oneđ Which, okay, thatâs not a fair assessment, they have a ton of romantic tension and they flirt a lot. Itâs certainly building to a great romantic relationship, but it canât quite get there due to legal/political reasons sadly. đ
Edit: I received new information in regards to what happened to Tamen De Gushi. While I reached my limit for posting pictures, I want to point out that the Chinese government had nothing to do with Tamen De Gushi getting censored, rather it was a dispute between the author and the publishing company. The prior information I received was false and I prob shouldâve looked it up more so sorrrry. The fact still remains though that after their big lesbian kiss towards the middle of the story and maybe a few other moments, thatâs just kind of it. Youâre stuck waiting for something to develop, but nothing really happens. The comic very quickly becomes a collection of slice of life segments and cute pictures that imply a relationship between the girls, but not really ;) ;).  Now things are just kind of left in purgatory for the foreseeable future and, well, thatâs Tamen De Gushi yâall.
Compared to Kase San and Yamada, the characters were much better, which is not saying much, but without an actual romantic storyline, thereâs just not a lot for me to comment on to be honest. Itâs really pretty though, look at this art :
3. Beauty and the Beast Girl by Neji
my personal favorite and the BEST yuri I ever read
So next on the list is Beauty and the Beast Girl (Iâm going to abbreviate to BatBG from here on) , which I already spoiled my feelings on the matter so this will basically be me gushing about this story for several paragraphs straight, enjoy.
Contrary to what the title suggests, it really has nothing to do with Beauty and the Beastâs story except in name. The main girls are Lily Blind, who is actually fucking blind đ and Heath the monster girl. Already Iâm happy because instead of blonde femme and dark hair butch, itâs blonde femme and of-course-you-have-purple-hair-and-pronouns masc. Lol, all jokes aside, Lily, unlike her blonde femme counterparts is quite assertive and voices her opinions all the time. In fact, sheâs the one who pushes Heath to be more open and communicate with her rather than the other way around. This is, in part, due to the story BatBG is trying to tell. I say BatBG is in name only to Beauty and the Beast because Lily isnât trying to find the âbeautyâ within Heath or learning to love a beast or whatever, sheâs fine just the way she is and her love for Heath is unconditional. Plus the only thing beastly about Heath is her appearanceâŠwhich Iâll harp on later, but her behavior is in no way different from a regular human except in very rare, specific moments.
At its heart, BatBG is a story about forgiveness (the creator literally says as much) , but itâs also about the cycle of violence that results from being outcasted and deprived of love. BatBG is set in a world of humans and monsters, where the monsters are outcasted and either have to stay away from human society like Heath or assimilate themselves by hiding away their monster like traits, which is a really queer narrative on top of an already queer story. I donât want to go into too much spoilers, but sometime before the beginning of the story, Heath in-directly hurts Lily before they ever meet. However, itâs not about Lily needing to forgive Heath, or trying to get over the pain she inflicted upon her, rather its Heath learning to forgive herself and in effect, learning to love herself as much as Lily loves her.
Another big aspect of BatBG is disabilities, Lily Blind is in fact Blind lol and while there are times she struggles with her blindness, she never views her disability as something she needs to be ashamed of and never, ever, blames Heath for it or holds it against her unlike what many, many, many, many other stories end up doing. Her blindness isnât treated like a super power either, itâs a legitimate disability. She just accepts that itâs a part of her and goes onto say that if not for her blindness, she wouldâve never met the love of her life, which I found to be an incredibly profound thing to say.
Now that Iâve gotten this far, I suppose I can add a bit of a disclaimer. So BatBG is waaaaay more explicit about the physical affection between the girls than in any of the previous stories I talked about. Heath and Lily are constantly kissing on, hugging, and almost always flirting with each other, and make no mistake, these girls do be fucking. The sex scenes are never perverted or gross, but genuinely super sweet and romantic, which makes it way hotter imo (huh imagine thatđ€). And aside from being hot, it also serves a purpose! Lilyâs pretty damn horny underneath all her nice girl antics and while itâs not a major part of her character, it does give a slight edge to her personality and, most importantly, balances out the dynamic between Heath and Lily. It wouldâve been very easy to fall into that boring trope where Heath is aggressively horny and Lily is the submissive blind girl, but by making Lily be the one to initiate the sexual encounters, it not only compliments Heathâs more reserved nature, but breaks the stereotype that people with disabilities are pure precious being who couldnât possibly have sex, which is ableist af btw. Many people think the existence of any sex scenes at all is superfluous, but in BatBG, it truly elevates the story, the characters, and the romance in ways that wouldnât be nearly as satisfying without it.
Now, with as much praise I gave BatBG, there is one criticism I have, but itâs a quibble really, and it can be explained in a single image:
There is a dissonance between the story and the art, the story says: âHeath is a big, ugly scary monsterâ
The art says:
And like yes, it can be argued that Heath is simply regurgitating the things bigoted people have said to her, but at no point in the story is this ever challenged or brought up in any meaningful way. Lily is blind so she doesnât know what the hell she looks like and the other characters arenât any help either. Itâs not a big deal or anything, it just wouldâve elevated the story if Heath was actually kinda ugly/more monstrous and not incredibly beautiful because right now itâs giving skinny girl who calls herself fat all the time, and itâs like, babe, who tf are you fooling? đ
Other than that, BatBG is incredibly profound despite its premise being so deceptively simple and I love it to pieces so âŠyeah! READ IT.
4. Superwomen in Love! Honey Trap and Rapid Rabbit by sometime
Well, at least there are no blondes
So imma just abbreviate to SiL btw
Alright, letâs get started. The premise is that a villainess falls for the super hero girl and then that plotline is dropped in about 16 pages. Iâm not even joking, the villainess falls for the hero, loses her job as a villain and then joins the hero all in one chapter. The REAL plot is actually about a council of evil alien-humans who want to destroy humanity because of generic super villain reason #434: the leader of the aliens is sad and misunderstood :( Iâm not even going to lie, I had 0 interest in âXâ (the generic ass name of the main villain) and her band of useless lesbians. They did literally nothing in the story except be a nuisance and contribute to Xâs incel breakdown at the end. Their inclusion actively made SiL worse because the story has this weird tonal problem where in one breath the villains are portrayed as complete jokes and then you turn the page and now theyâre shooting children like girl whatđ And these useless lesbians hog sooooo much of SiL that desperately needed to be given to Honey trap and Hayate to develop their relationship.
When the story DOES actually focus on Honey Trap and Hayate, itâs pretty good, even cute at times, there just wasnât enough time given to them to flesh their relationship out. As it stands, Honey Trap and Hayate donât have much of a dynamic, or personality for that matter. Honey Trapâs main gimmick is that sheâs extremely horny for Hayate and delulu:
Aside from that, sheâs a great value version of Heath, but even a watered down character is better than, like, nothing. All I really know about Hayate is that sheâs nice, heroic, likes wearing tacky clothes and âŠ.thatâs it. She loves Honey Trap becauseâŠâŠâŠâŠthey fought together a few times so why notđ€·ââïž Iâd say at least thatâs better than Tamen De Gushi, but actually itâs not because these grown ass women donât even kiss , all we get is a love confession and their gremlin love child and thatâs supposed to be satisfying I guess.
And the worst part is that SiL has the audacity to pretend the romance was something that it clearly wasnât:
GirlâŠyall were âââenemiesâââ for 10 panels.
Now, itâs stated they have been rivals for a while, but I guess Honey Trap forgot all of that because the moment she sees Hayateâs face, my good sis is pussy whipped for life. And thatâs in spite of apparently being the evilest one out of the evil group because Honey Trap has no grudge or baggage toward Hayate. She immediately turns good with no issues and Hayate is only distrustful of Honey Trap for 1 or 2 speech bubbles and then sheâs not. Anything else that happened was off screen, which means it didnât happen. Ironically, the very next entry on this list will do a MUCH better job at an ex-villain love story, but for SiL, thereâs just not much going on.
Another reading of this story is to call it a âparodyâ butâŠno, it isnât. SiL isnât a comedy, yes there are comedic moments that poke fun of the genre, but the rest of the story genuinely wants you to take it seriously. Except it canât. X and her league of dimwits are boring as piss and they oscillate between Saturday morning cartoon villains and child murderers seemingly on a whim. So I can neither be endeared to them nor take them as a serious threat. Honey Trap and Hayate are there, but I lament on all the potential lost from what couldâve been an amazing relationship.
5. Yamujiburo/Kianamaiartâs Hanamusa webcomic
This one is kind of cheating, but I also donât care let me talk about hot MILFsđ
So the final entry on this list is a webcomic series by one of my fave artist: kianamaiart! And itâs right here on tumblr so check it out!
I stumbled upon this webcomic a few weeks ago, fell in love and now I want to talk about it. This yuri pair thankfully has no blonde femme in sight and instead features two popular PokĂ©mon characters: Jessie from Team Rocket and Delia Ketchum, Ash Ketchumâs mom. What I love about this ship and the world Kiana creates around them is that itâs a very unconventional pairing. Thereâs just not many romances where a single mom falls in love with an ex gang member and the best part is, Delia being a mom is a big part of her character and she doesnât ignore Ash in favor of her new relationship with Jessie. She has time for both and doesnât prioritize one over the other, which many ppl fail to do even irl so good on you Delia!
Now, as for the romance it self, Jessie and Delia are a unique pair. Jessieâs overconfident, brash, drama queen personality doesnât automatically put her in the âdominantâ role and Deliaâs sweet, motherly personality doesnât automatically put her in the âsubmissiveâ role. Their dynamic in the webcomic actually plays out in the reverse, Jessie is the one who gets easily flustered and DeliaâsâŠintense, to say the least:
(But Tbf if Delia looked at me like that Iâd be at her beck and call toođ)
This subversion of these tropes creates a fun dynamic for the couple and itâs super adorable to see how their energies bounce off each other in each new situation Kiana puts them in. I also love how both Jessie and Delia inspire each other to live out their dreams and they become better versions of themselves by being together.
And one last thing, I donât have any smart commentary to go along with this, I just really like this drawing of Jessie:
no thoughts, head empty
Final Thoughts
Soooo yeah, thatâs the end of my dissertation on yuri comics. I know I ended up dragging a lot of popular yuri, but it wasnât my intention to make you guys hate any of things I talked about. These were just my thoughts as an avid yuri fan, so let me know your thoughts as well, especially if you read any of the yuri I talked about. And even though Iâm super picky about the type of yuri I read, Iâd still love to hear any recommendations. Who knows, it might dethrone the undefeated champ that is Beauty and the Beast Girl.

hey there!
please don't take this the wrong way, because i'm genuinely just asking. i've seen your criticism of aang and kataang appear on my dash from time to time, and it just got me wondering: how can you enjoy the show?
i understand that you feel passionate about katara, and i suppose about the entire story, but. aang is like on screen 90% of the time, and he gets his happy ending too (as happy as it can be, of course, with having his entire culture and people on the brink of non-existence). how do you reconcile your love for the show with your dislike for its main character and how the narrative rewards him?
and once again, please understand that i'm not attacking. i'm just curious to see at what point does someone stop being a fan and start being simply critical of a certain media, if you know what i mean.
thank you for answering if you do, and cheers!:)
I just donât pay attention to him very much. Even in the finale, Zukoâs ending and story stands out more to me. Him standing before the crowd in his sparkling crown, announcing that he wants to bring in a new era of love and peace, thatâs powerful to me. Watching Zuko go from an abused boy who thinks his only worth comes from accomplishing an impossible task in his desperation to appease his abuser, to a literal king taking back his power and using it for good, is a powerful story.
As for Katara, to me, her true ending is the Agni Kai. I wrote a whole post about it. That is the culmination of her arc, where she is able to display her power and use it to overthrow the regime that sheâd grown up being terrorized by. And then after Zuko was nearly killed, Katara was able to save his life just like he saved hers. The way their stories intertwined was beautiful, and it was a beautiful conclusion to Kataraâs story, watching her not have to feel helpless for once and bringing the change sheâd always dreamed of.
As you can probably tell, these are my favorite characters so I was satisfied by their endings. To be honest on my rewatch, I usually kind of just skim the Aang vs. Ozai fight because itâs just an anime battle. The characters hadnât even met prior to the fight, so the emotional depth is lacking compared to the Final Agni Kai.
As for the balcony scene? I donât watch it. And I think it says a lot that by simply not watching it, nothing is lost. It adds nothing to either character and only serves to give Aang a reward. Before that moment, nothing about the finale suggested Katara wanted that at all. Neither character played a significant role in the otherâs finale arc. There was absolutely no narrative significance between them.
But there was for Zuko and Katara.
To me, Katara ended the story as a heroine and warrior, not a love interest. With Zuko, that was her ending. So thatâs the real ending to me, because thatâs what her character means to me.
#that doe eyed babydoll they replaced her with on the balcony was a body double as far as Iâm concerned#zutara#zuko#katara#atla#avatar the last airbender#anti kataang#canon critical#ask#anon

a major plot point or like the entire thing about my au is just the creeps moving on and having their own character arcs throughout the years and finally heal from their past trauma
(rest is me rambling about my au...u don't have to read if u don't wanna its pretty long)
Jeff's arc is big on him finding his brother and coming to terms with what really happened. jeff is so incredibly stubborn and a big (very) egotistical. he finds it hard to open up and after what happened he feels that there's no point opening up anyway bc he's literally a famous asshole serial killer who's messed up SO many people's lives. another big thing about his arc is just owning up to his actions and apologizing to the people he's hurt. for example, nina. he led her on, treated her terribly for no reason, and was overall just an asshole. after they get into an argument he'll eventually apologize bc like he didn't HATE nina, he's was and prob still is in a terrible mindset and copes in such unhealthy ways. IDK OK I'm rambling but my point is he does eventually apologize to nina not because he needs her or like wants to use her again. he apologizes because he genuinely misses her and BOOM they become besties again after jeff properly apologizes and ya. BUT basically jeff's arc is him finally finding liu after all these years and yeah he apologizes to all the people he hurt (or the IMPORTANT ones) like nina, liu, and EVENTUALLY... jane. but that's WAY into the future (besides nina) he's way too full of himself to apologize now.
Nina's arc is her getting over JEFF. her love for Jeff began when she met him. she already admired him, but he turned into a full on crush. he did lead her on, and it hurt her a lot. shed spent tons of nights alone when jeff was supposed to be sleeping next to her, and she just felt so lonely, especially since jeff was so neglectful. She talks to clockwork about it and they help her realize her self worth and comforts her (she's terrible at it). Nina starts hanging out with Nat and toby more often, and it makes her feel SO much better about herself. Eventually she does get fed up of jeffs bs and they get into an argument and nina decides to leave. she kicks him out of her apartment and she doesn't let him come back. (she does....when he apologizes.....) She eventually learns to love herself and realize she doesn't need a stinky man's validation. Theres also a bit of her coming to terms with her own trauma, but I haven't fully fleshed that part out yet.
BEN's arc is probably my favorite. he's lost all his memories of his past life, and now after he accidentally found out he's NOT just a computer AI program, he decides to take it on himself to find out who his family was, how his life was, and how he died. I wont say as much bc I want to keep it a surprise, but in summary it fucks him up LMAO
ok that's it. OBVIOUSLY the rest of the creeps are healing as well BUT I have not fleshed out their stories yet...oops. so its just three for now. Except MUCH more stuff about the trio bc I love them with my all.. if u have any questions feel free to ask :3
