@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess:
Thing is though that no Lyctors had any idea that Alecto was the soul/RB of earth. They thought she was just John’s first ressurection that ‘came back wrong’
So it may be that there is not yet an RB 9…
John, if I recall right, only ever told his friends that A- was his first resurrection. And admitted she could be inhuman. But not that she was earth.
Didn't they know? I think I've been given enough information so far to say with certainty that Alecto is the soul of Earth, and I don't think I have any information that Mercy and Augustine didn't have. They both repeatedly describe her as not being human (and they know that she likely doesn't have a genetic code and naturally had John's inhuman eyes, so they didn't just mean that she was a human who acted inhuman) and they said that the resurrection beasts were coming partly for her, so what other non-human entity would John resurrect that has something to do with the resurrection beasts? John and Augustine both claim that John told the Lyctors the truth regarding Alecto and her resurrection, and about the death of Earth, and that he wasn't able to do otherwise because he couldn't control what Alecto told the Lyctors. Is that not actually the case?
The difference between original RBs and new planetary revenants is apparently the difference between sudden and unexpected mass murder and a slow poisoning, I think.
When Harrow killed the first planet we see die, it wasn't a slow poisoning process, it took 8 minutes total for Harrow to kill the planet and then kill the beast in the River afterwards, that's pretty sudden and unexpected. I think they covered this at the beginning of the book that when it's the result of a slow poisoning process, there is no revenant at all
@gentlemean:
The resurrection beast entry is correct tho - Cassiopeia sacrificed herself to stop number seven a long time ago, but didn't manage to kill it. I think this was explained during the team meeting.
Ahh, you're right, but that wasn't mentioned in that particular scene, it was actually mentioned here:

Did you ever play 'Control'? I was just reminded of this glorious game's existence, and I thought of your blog. The ultimate haunted house, a house that haunts not only itself but also dark corners of reality and beyond.
I unfortunately have not! I've only very recently (last month?) got access to something which I could play games on so I have long list of things to catch up on.
If it's good for pc I'll look into downloading it as I love a good haunted house game.

I present to you: The Whitegull River Symphony.
A classical symphony in four movements, inspired by @thesiltverses! The most recent episode swept me away in a river of creative inspiration, and I couldn't help but follow this stream to whatever murky depths it wanted to take me.
Creative thoughts and details beneath the cut.
The Whitegull River Symphony is written in f-Minor for a full symphonic orchestra. My rendition was created in FLStudio, using Spitfire's BBC-Symphonic-Orchestra plugin, as I am just one mediocre violinist without an entire orchestra at hand.
First Movement: River Angels, Allegro Assai
The first movement is dominated by the steady rhythm of the celli and violae, who act as the slow waves of our murky river. Among these waves, the faithful have prepared a sacrifice. Their hopeful prayers flick aross the water in the first half of the movement, and are answered by the scutteling, chittering spawn of the river in the second half.
Second Movement: Pilgrimage of the Prophet, Adagio
In the second movement, we focus entirely on our favorite little prophet (whose brilliant performance inspired me to make this. The existence of this symphony is your fault, @sassylich). He marches on through the silt with slow steps, while the clarinet plays his theme. His little schemes behind the scenes are played by the string section, the obvious warning signs are announced by the horns. Nevertheless: In the end, everyone is playing his tune.
Third Movement: The Withermark, Andante
And here we go, the river's might is unleashed. The angels of the river god approach unstoppably, drawn here by the prophet: His clarinet is setting the tune for the overwhelming wrath of the trawlerman. Nothing can stand in its way, but after the tides have calmed, new life can grow in their wake.
Fourth Movement: Katabasis, Allegro Assai
Katabasis, the descent into the depths. Nothing escapes the greedy maw of the Trawlerman, nobody can float above, untouched. All the instruments we've hear so far return, desceding into the roiling depths of the bassline. This is not a comforting or hopeful ending, this is an apocalypse.

I can't stress enough how incredible your performance as Faulkner is. Your work has been an amazing source of inspiration to me (hell, I've written a whole symphony about that little prophet, which did it part in rekindling my passion for writing music). I'm really looking forward to the finale, and to whatever shows you'll be working on next!
when i tell you i choked the first time reading this?? a WHOLE SYMPHONY??
i scrambled through the tag to find it and go listen, this is so so cool and just absolutely gorgeous, and i'm deeply honored to have helped inspire it!! i hope you keep composing music 💕

You are being gifted. Do not resist.
(Something I've been wanting to do for a while now is writing music for artist's OCs I like and dumping it in their inbox with no warning. Usually I'd put my creative notes under a cut. As it turns out, I can't do that in an ask, which means I will explode your inbox with this, sorry.)
This is a short orchestral piece in D major for violin, cello, double bass, harp, piccolo flutes and synthesizer. The song opens with a fast-paced, plucked melody from the violin. Synthesizer, bass and cello join in with a fluid, wave-like backing. This little, plucked melody - Matthäus' sneaky little rat steps - will carry us through the song.
After one repetition, the melody is picked up by the harp. It is joined by the piccolo flute - matthäus voice - which gives us a very playful overall shape. But oh, what's that? Not one voice, but three, harmonizing with each other!
After the flute has had its time, it joins the other instruments in the background. Our sneaky little sneaker takes a dive into the darkness of the bassline for a few measures. Then, finally, we return to the beginning. After another few measures, the whole ensemble joins the melody.
I hope you enjoy it!
Oh. My. God. I am crying actual tears over this ;-; that someone loves my little guy enough to make him a full musical piece!! That is incredible thank you so so so much, it is so absolutely fitting too! The choice of instruments, the melody it’s absolutely PERFECT. This is one of the greatest gifts i ever got thank you ;-;
Tumblr media
Is there a way to have me have the file??? I geniuly need to add this to my song gallery and playlist ;-;

@gentlemean:
Regarding the old fashioned English in the beginning: that is, indeed, a reference. Gideon's final speech before sacrificing herself is a direct quote from the book of Ruth; one that is commonly used as a wedding vow. Now, Harrow's first words upon remembering Gideon are another Bible quote, one that is commonly used as the groom's answer to the bride's vows. She completed the wedding ceremony.
I see. You know, it's funny, with how Gideon and Harrow started out at the beginning of Gideon the Ninth I was like, ok, there are going to be at least four books in this series, I bet this is going to be some long-drawn-out slow burn enemies to lovers thing, right? Only then the pool scene happened and they went immediately from hating each other to dying for each other and saying honest-to-goodness marriage vows, and I feel like we skipped a lot the fun tension parts of a getting together story. But then we actually do get all that fun tension stuff in the second book, only it's between Harrow and Ianthe, and I'm just like, this was not exactly what I was hoping for here. I think this might be different than how most people feel, but generally for romance stuff/shipping/etc. I am like 100% there for the getting together part and then I have pretty much zero interest in the happily ever after or the grand declarations of love and any marriages that happen and so forth. So I feel like Gideon the Ninth just kind of skipped most of the stuff I would have actually been interested in
@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess:
"So, this isn't something that just happens automatically after the eightfold word, nor even just by having been consumed in that way"---The Unwanted Guest, the short...story...that should be read after Nona the Ninth, gets soooo much into what happens with this process....
I'll look forward to it. I've seen some stuff on tumblr about that one, mainly to the effect that it features Ianthe in a French maid outfit
Removing the memories would probably have been an issue, because then she would have even more issues, not understanding perhaps even how she ended up where she was. Overwriting them at least let her maintain some semblance of bizzare rationality.
Oh yeah, I can see that it would have made life harder for her, although Harrow could technically have explained everything that she wanted herself to know in the letters. But it seems like Abigail is saying that the primary reason for not doing it was that it was too hard from a technical perspective, which doesn't seem like it would be true

So I had a dream and Mr.Oshiro was my teacher. He would send gigantic emails to the referent teacher about how good of a class we were, like several big ass messages a day and they were all formatted like this (italics included) :
lorem ipsum DOLOR sit amet, CONSECTETUR ADIPISCING elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt UT labore et dolore MAGNA aliqua. ut enim ad minim VENIAM, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea COMMODO consequat.
And then my ref teacher got mad and told him to stop sending her so many emails and I woke up.
Anyway now Mr.Oshiro writes emails like this and it is canon sorry 😔

Since I'm getting back into composing, I wanted to set myself some challenges. I'd say my orchestral music is pretty good, but I haven't really tried to write anything beyond the realm of classical symphonies lately.
So: I set out to write a little theme for @meat-planet, which is the silly little webcomic of @cottoncandylesbo and their streaming gang (whose streams I've been enjoying greatly over the last few months!!).
Creative thoughts under the cut!
Picture this: you're sitting in a cheap diner, and while you're trying to enjoy the deepfried food of your choice, those whimsical idiots who are running the place keep getting into trouble.
In the background, we've got some typical lo-fi stuff. An electric guitar playing gentle chords, an electric bass, some drums, all run through that nice filter that makes everything soft.
Then, the individual characters get their chances to shine:
First off, there's @jame7t. They're clumsy, they're funny, they get into trouble. Their voice is played by a guitar with a wah-filter, because a weh-filter hasn't been invented yet.
Following them, there's @kelleycubes, being played by the slimiest sythesizer I could fit into this song. She's more elegant, more refined, more slimy.
Next is @sanitymakesposts, with the acoustic guitar. He's gentle, he's taking the time to stike whole chords instead of just pressing forward with his melody.
Then it's time for the big boss herself, @cottoncandylesbo. They've got that crunchy distortion, his electric guitar is the only thing in this song that's kinda grinding against the soft lo-fi filter.
Second to last, we've got @christianstepmoms. Siel is grumpy but straightforward, and his part is the only one that doesn't start with a pick-up beat.
Last but not least, we've got @cryptotheism's Mattie. Mattie's voice is played by a clarinet, goofing around in the background. It's more lively than the others, with multiple groups of eight notes instead of calmer, distinct melodies.
