Interior Chinatown, it's about gentrification, it's about generational trauma, it's about community building, it's about racist scapegoating, it's about police corruption, it's about the pressures of immigrant parenthood, it's about the different expectations for different children and the way it can break them, it's about the meat grinder of capitalism replacing and reusing the lower class like nameless murder victims in a police procedural, it's about the system and its inescapablity, it's about the falacy of the American Dream, it's about urban decay and being abandoned by economic forces, it's about cultural appropriation and tokenism, it's about grief, it's about Jimmy O. Yang kicking ass and looking sexy

"if using the final girl trope is plagiarism then everybody whos made a horror film since the texas chainsaw massacre owes the tobe hooper estate some money" everybody point and laugh at james somerton not knowing black christmas's jess bradford predates tcm's sally hardesty by a year 🤭 and that the actual tropes of sexuality surrounding the concept wouldnt be codified until halloween's laurie strode 🤭🤭 either way making sally not the first example of a final girl so this joke makes no sense 🤭

Now this is the weird cartoon I'd watch.
There would be some very questionable humor, screaming (and i kinda really miss Hunter's screeches from the second season. He was GREAT while raising his voice, no matter what anybody can say about it being annoying), grotesque episode scenarios, cool uniforms and much else!

read the sisters of dorley (alyson greaves, 2021-ongoing), a story containing such highlights as:
a satire of the trans healthcare experience in the uk
a meta-commentary on how trans women engage with/reclaim an erotica genre that both helped and hurt us growing up
the full spectrum of the transfem experience (cute & happy vs. absolute horror) juxtaposed together at all times
a bunch of neurotic trans girls in denial about being a cult
the worst opsec you've ever seen saved only by the secret it's protecting being too ludicrous to think of
more codependent transbian relationships than you can shake a stick at
the weirdest sexy chaser lady you've ever met
and a bunch of novelty mugs with really terrible puns
it's an ongoing doorstopper with every content warning under the sun and it makes me feel every human emotion at once

i think the witcher books (and the stories to saga transition) are good and fine to be adapted into audiovisual media (e.g., tv/movie), but only if the audience (meaning, an audience previously unfamiliar with the IP) is actually there for what it’s about. and can be encouraged to keep an open mind for what it will be.
because it seems many people get into it from the premise of “mutated monster killer kills monsters” (even though, if you read the short stories closely, they’re not about that at all, that’s only the literal aspect of them, and some aren’t even about monsters at all??). and then become disappointed that geralt isn’t just slaying beasts left and right for five novels (or seasons?) straight
if you want to have an audience that’s there for what the series is, then… just… tell them what they’re sitting down for!
to potential readers and viewers of such an adaptation, it just needs to be better communicated right off the bat what the story is about. and no one can do that except the already existing fans who have read and like the story and know what parts they love the most.
stop selling it on the basis of ‘ooo dark fantasy where people swear sometimes’ and actually look at what it is about (also, beyond that it is fantasy) and you’ll have your answer.

Whenever you have a Supreme Leader line, always double check to see if it isn't one of Pat's specialities!
So, Pat!Supreme Leader wants to force (uh) the people of Fodlan to open their eyes to the truth contained in her manifesto (CoS BaD, Kingdom and Alliance nobles BaD), and those people, after having their eyes opened, will abandon the idea of wanting to resist against Adrestia invading their homes and conquering their lands.
FE16's Supreme Leader wants to use her manifesto to cause "disquiet" in the lands to be conquered : this disquiet will influence people to not rebel when Adrestia will knock at their doors.

Downloaded TikTok and took a stroll through booktok only to realize today's teens do not get satire. Which, to be fair, I didn't really either until someone explained that the movie American Psycho and is making fun of the intelligent psychopath trope used in horror movies. So like lemme just say if you guys are reading the splatterpunk novel Playground by Aron Beauregard and are wondering what the fuck is wrong this author?
Nothing is wrong with them. The book is satire about pearlclutching helicopter parents -- think Moms For Liberty -- who are making things like swingsets disappear from playgrounds. Which is bad cause rather than your kid getting a scrapped knee it means they're gonna end up spending more time indoors cause there's NOTHING to do outside. This is especially bad for kids in low income neighborhoods who can't afford Wifi or video games.
Especially since these hate groups (Moms For Liberty) are also behind the book bans.
So that's the point of the book, and if you're wondering how you can possibly keep your kid safe on the playground without caving to thinly veiled white supremacist soccor moms maybe
Try PUTTING DOWN YOUR PHONE and GOING TO THE PARK WITH THEM so you can watch them and make sure they don't get hurt. And don't forget the first-aid kit.
Crazy idea, I know.

Should I Watch Thanksgiving?
A Black Friday sale gone wrong triggers a psychopath to embark on a murderous rampage targeting everyone involved in this latest Grindhouse spinoff.
Buttonface says…
Probably. If you’re into Scream-quality whodunits with a bit more comedy, and you don’t mind that coming with a subpar plot, some witty dialogue, and creative gore, then you should definitely watch it.

I've thrown on American Psycho like two more times in the background since watching it cause it's short and it's really reslly funny to me and just like... I like that movie a lot I think. Not even because it's particularly good or profound or anything I just think it's really fucking funny. Christian Bale acts like a psychopath for about an hour and a half and delivers the most fucking bullshit absurd sentences like he REALLY believes them. "Cool it with the antisemitic remarks" and "STUPID BITCHEE" are lines said by the same character. The short soliloquy he says where he goes "I'm not really there" is a great little blurb about dissociation to me and I really like it and I cannot ever use it anywhere because it's spoken by fucking Patrick Bateman who goes on violent misogyny-fueled killing spree like 30 minutes later. This movie is so fucking funny.
