Made in Abyss is great if you like extensive worldbuilding, adventure, trauma, fantasy, horror, mystery, and more horror.

If HP Lovecraft and Jules Verne had a baby and that baby could only draw cute characters, then you'd get Made in Abyss. To summarize, a 12-year-old girl named Riko wants to meet her long-lost mother who resides at the bottom of the Abyss, a giant chasm in the earth. Being a squishy little human, Riko is subject to lots of injuries and physical trauma cuz "reality ensues." No matter how plucky and optimistic a child is, throwing them into a pit full of wild animals is not a good idea. The Abyss itself defies space, physics, and time. Imagine the Burj Khalifa times 3 sunk into the earth. Now imagine if that superstructure was split into 7 stories or "layers" and each layer has its own ecosystem and weather patterns. Now imagine if that superstructure was a giant trap with downward-facing teeth so the further you went in, the more painful it becomes to get out. Now imagine if that giant trap was sentient on some level and gives you an irresistible urge to literally get to the bottom of it not caring if you can never return to the surface.

Something about the specific ambience of certain psx era games, the stilted quality of models and how they are animated, but especially the sheer sense of darkness, the insufficiency of lighting sources to properly convey the warmth of a flame painting color across a pitch black canvas. And then you toss in a synthy, industrial score, which creeps in your ears and sounds a thousand times louder if such a game lacks any form of voiceover, downright foreboding as it underscores this vacuum where words are conveyed by text if at all. But there's this underlying sense of disconnection, like these awkward 3D puppets exist independently of the signs and signifiers intended to lend them narrative meaning. It's this deep sense of emptiness, the oppressive loneliness born within the trappings of technical limitations and experimentation. It's fascinatingly discomforting. Disorientingly, hauntingly irresistible

and im just baffled that i hvent seen anyone in my nine years straight up go divine right of kings with it. im not saying they should by any means im just saying the fanbase is tactless and like Someone Has To Have by Now. like maybe im self filtering but i refuse to believe as obtuse a fanbase hasnt done something that tasteless yknow

doug eiffel is relatively offline, his choice of... constant, unyielding background noise so he never has to be left alone in the company of his own thoughts... is the radio and/or tv, but he is also always watching youtube videos like "Can We Drive 1,200 MILES in an ABANDONED Van With NO TITLE? - First Start in 17 Years" and "Monster Jam - INSANE AIR Compilation." zero doubt.

I like that the programme has never been pigeonholed as a police procedural.

That gives the Inspector and his/her Associate(s) a wider array of solving whatever mystery they stumble upon.
