"Oooh, new goal in life. Become a bonified cryptid. I'm going to have to give someone my entire life story before I do end up dying so they can carry on my work and name," she mused, the idea far more enticing than Akira likely meant. "Yeah, but like...why? This has been my entire life since the day I was literally conceived. My mom was an actual dog and we're not unpacking the trauma that is my biological father. No one has time to unpack all of that."

"...I bet people tell stories about you. Like the strangers you didn't end up becoming friends with, y'know? You might be an urban legend in a few places. At the very least, you've probably traumatized some unsuspecting soul," he mused. "Maybe. Could be a blessed and cursed thing. You ever met anyone that was beloved and hated by two different powerful beings? It gets messy."

"I meet most of my friends by forgetting where I was sitting and just dropping down in front of complete strangers, halfway through a, as I've been told repeatedly, absolutely horrifying thought about my childhood or something, probably not." She knew he was kidding, but it was always fun to point out how absurd her actual life was. "I was born with that then because that's just...my entire life."

"Have you ever had a conversation where you didn't like... overshare within the first ten minutes?" he teased. "Oh, that's like... some faerie blessing, genie wish, monkey paw shit, y'know? Where it's like, 'Oh, you'll survive any danger you're in,' but it doesn't tell you that you'll constantly be in danger."

"Yeah, most definitely. But that does seem to work better for me than just about anything else. It helps that my lack of brain-to-mouth filter seems to weed out people too." He could have likely done better in friendship options than her, but Genesis liked having him around. "Yeah, I don't know of too many blessings that would have be around as many murderers as possible. I'd be real concerned if you couldn't say the same."

"Yeah, that tracks. I feel like you're also a magnet for people who've led absolutely bizarre lives." Then again, so was he. It made it easier to relate to people when that was the case. "If I didn't know better, I'd almost say it sounds like a blessing."

"I almost wish I could say that's the first time I've heard that in my life, but I'm not even sure if it would be true at this point. Like, if I had a penny every time I've heard that or close to it, I'd be pretty rich." It was an exaggeration, sure, but not by much at this point. "Honestly, I'm not sure if it's luck or a skill."

"You know, sometimes you make me feel like I've led a perfectly normal, healthy, reasonable life. Which is like... it would be impressive if it wasn't just so alarming." Did he have room to be concerned? No. But he couldn't help it. "The fact that you're still breathing will never not be a miracle, huh?"

"Actually, I don't think she would. The one time I was in trouble, she called Chance and stayed with me the whole time. And, no, not really. I have you and Darcy but Darcy's out in Nevada, and then there's Luna and Talyse but they're family so I don't really count them, and Aspen, he's new but he's cool. Zarina probably wouldn't use the word friends, I think she's just waiting to see how I manage to get myself killed. Salem is really not fond of Zarina. Then there's Liam but like, he's human human so probably not the smartest friendship for me to have because I'm fucking awful at secrets? Like, I don't think he'd believe me if I told him what I was level of human here. Being social doesn't mean good at making friends. I'm enough of a disaster that any sane person doesn't want to deal with that."

"Is it safe to assume there's a 50/50 chance said fuck buddy would leave you without help? ...and don't you have like 10,000 friends? You're the most social person I've ever met. Which, all considered, is saying a lot."

"Bold of you to assume I actually have that many friends. I call Chance and that's pretty much it. I'd call you before I called my momma Cadi and probably before I'd call my weirdly long time at this point fuck buddy."

"Okay, but let's be realistic here -- the only reason you haven't shown up bleeding heavily and needing help is because I'm like... at least fifth on the list of people you'd go to for that. Maybe lower."

"You might actually be onto something. I mean, I'm the result of a fucked up science experiment by hunters and I was supposed to be dead before I was five. I'm literally half domestic dog. Like, who even fucking thinks of shit like that?" It still blew her mind that she existed in the first place, but she didn't like to dwell on it beyond the occasional joke. "Okay, one, it's a little funny and two, I was in my teens. Her name was Kris, she was the first one that actually tried to kill me. I mean, she did, technically speaking, succeed, but Eli was able to bring me back. The same could not be said for Kris after what Chance did to her."

"I think it's probably harder since you grew up around people who already know? I don't think I have any real idea how to interact with normal humans who don't know about magic. I do okay with ones who like... got tricked into making deals and have no idea what's happening, but even then it's... kinda hard?" He just... couldn't relate. "First off, I don't think we should be betting on our deaths. Second, Genesis, what the actual fuck?"

"I honestly try not to be rude, so I guess that helps. I do keep being told I need to learn not to overshare so much and I'm trying, but it's a lot harder when I'm around people that are either not human or know nonhumans exist." She liked not needing to hide who or what she was. "Ooh, that would be an interesting bet to make. I mean, I have technically died before."

"Oh, for sure. Although, being friends with me only gets you so much of a pass. I think if you were like... straight up rude, he'd still do it. But you're not really rude. You just overshare. And not even that, by fae standards, but Kiyoshi's not the most patient person I know." His nose scrunched at that reminder. "I know you'll still probably out live me, but I don't like the reminder that you're probably gonna get murdered."

"I think if I wasn't friends with you, he might have followed through on it," she muttered, pouting just a little at that. She was used to people not liking her, but she had, as far as she knew, never been cursed before. "I mean, I'm not actually immortal, shifters can live a couple hundred years, but still. Sage will likely outlive me even if I wasn't likely to get myself killed."

"Threatens implies no follow-through." He didn't think his brother had actually cursed too many people, but he knew the answer wasn't none. "Yeah, that tracks. There's definitely a difference when someone's ancient versus like... a century. And not just in mannerisms. ...dating gets kind of weird when immortality is at play, huh?"

"So he threatens to curse everyone for being annoying?" Honestly, she wouldn't be surprised if the answer to that was yes. He might have been grouchier than Blake. Or maybe it was just that Blake had never actually learned how to curse anyone himself. "I never actually asked but I know she's not old. When you spend enough time around things that are immortal or horrifically long lived, you catch on to the, I dunno, feel of age? At a guess, I'd say closer to my age, but still probably younger than me considering I'm old enough to have grown kids if that was something I was interested in doing."

He winced when she mentioned how the interaction had gone, but he couldn't say he was surprised. "He probably didn't dislike you. He's just... very picky about who he socializes with. It's mostly just me and even then he doesn't want to hang out about half the time." But Akira knew things would always be a little complicated between them. "...how old is the fuck buddy then? Any idea if that's a long time for her?"

She gave him a rather pointed look, but let that particular topic drop. Getting into it would do no one, especially her, any good. "Yeah, no, I met him once and I fully believe that. He threatened to curse me. I don't think he liked me very much." But she generally had that effect on people so it hadn't been too shocking. "I can't really argue that one."

"I'll take that as a yes, then." Which was concerning, but he knew how she'd feel if he pointed it out. "I get it from my family. Believe it or not, Kiyoshi's worse. I'm the friendly one." Probably because he generally had to be. Kiyoshi was allowed to be rude. Akira? Not so much. "Yeah, see, a few years is kind of nothing when you've been alive long enough."

"Yeah, we're absolutely not going down that line of thought." She had spent far too many nights wondering just how much longer she could let things go. "Yeah, you definitely look way too young be as judgy as you are but I still look like I'm under 21 and I'm definitely nowhere near that young either."

"Aren't shifters kind of known for monogamy and like, getting very serious?" It was a genuine question. He hadn't spent a ton of time around shifters before knowing Genesis. "Might not feel that long for her either. Time's weird when you're immortal. Hell, sometimes it's weird even when you're mortal. I'm definitely human, but I'm also way older than I look." Consequences of growing up in the fae realm.

"We've both stated, repeatedly, that neither of us are looking for anything serious." Even if Genesis had lost interest in anyone else. "Okay, but like, I'm not making deals with the fae. Just...been hooking up with a demon for, well, shit," she sighed, counting things off on her fingers silently for a moment. "A few years at this point. Does not feel like that long."

"That sounds a little more serious than the average fuck buddy," he observed. "And, as always, the rest of what you said was unreasonably concerning. You might actually be the most concerning person I know and I know people who literally chose to make deals with the fae and thought it would go well for them."

"You've also shown up on my doorstep bleeding heavily and needing help. I show up on yours with funnel cakes and fair-style lemonade. And I wouldn't call any of my exes enemies. I mean, most of them are dead."

"Yeah, alright, but when I make enemies, it's because I'm helping someone who made a bad deal. When you make them, it's because you have the world's worst taste in women."
