"I'm in less danger right this second than I would be in any number of seedy bars that I find myself in when I'm trying to get laid," she pointed out, almost daring him to argue that point. "I mean, you're not the only person I could have popped up on but I think Aspen would have literally dragged me home if I showed up on his doorstep."

"I disagree with your assessment entirely. Just because you don't see any dangers right now doesn't mean you're not in danger." There were so many ways that this could go wrong. "I don't really love being part of this very risky, very fucked up experiment."

"When it comes to food, hell yes! Can't be ruining perfectly good food," she teased around a bite of breaded, deep-fried, melty cheese. She could live off of mozzarella sticks if anyone would let her. "I can't answer that. Most of the nonhumans I know aren't all that fond of being stabbed either." Especially the other shifters she knew. She seemed to be the odd one out in most situations. "I want to go back in time and not stupidly fall in love with her because all I fucking want is for her to show up on my doorstep, even if it's just for one more night and how fucking pathetic is that? I haven't been this bad off since Molly and Molls and I were kids when she made it clear it was never going to happen."

"Oh, do you now? That might be news to us all." Although it made sense that her limits would lie with food, if anywhere. "Sometimes I wonder if getting stabbed when you're not human is just a different sensation, 'cause I couldn't recommend it less, but I also take way longer to heal." He probably put as much effort into not getting stabbed as she did into doing it for fun. "Do you wanna talk about it or do you wanna not talk about it?"

"Oooh, new goal in life. Become a bonified cryptid. I'm going to have to give someone my entire life story before I do end up dying so they can carry on my work and name," she mused, the idea far more enticing than Akira likely meant. "Yeah, but like...why? This has been my entire life since the day I was literally conceived. My mom was an actual dog and we're not unpacking the trauma that is my biological father. No one has time to unpack all of that."

"...I bet people tell stories about you. Like the strangers you didn't end up becoming friends with, y'know? You might be an urban legend in a few places. At the very least, you've probably traumatized some unsuspecting soul," he mused. "Maybe. Could be a blessed and cursed thing. You ever met anyone that was beloved and hated by two different powerful beings? It gets messy."

"Oh, would you relax? I didn't say this place wasn't dangerous, I said I was personally not in danger at the moment. Call this a uh...test, of sorts? Kind of want to see what the limit of this dude's reach is and how much danger I actually have to be in to trigger whatever it is that summons him."

"See, it's that kind of statement that really drives home the fact that you can't be here. You don't even think this place is dangerous. That's bad, Gen. You're gonna get cursed or killed or trapped. We need to get you home."

"Oh come on, it's not like the demon babysitting me has shown up to whisk me away. I can't be in that much danger."

"Oh, you should not be here."

"I meet most of my friends by forgetting where I was sitting and just dropping down in front of complete strangers, halfway through a, as I've been told repeatedly, absolutely horrifying thought about my childhood or something, probably not." She knew he was kidding, but it was always fun to point out how absurd her actual life was. "I was born with that then because that's just...my entire life."

"Have you ever had a conversation where you didn't like... overshare within the first ten minutes?" he teased. "Oh, that's like... some faerie blessing, genie wish, monkey paw shit, y'know? Where it's like, 'Oh, you'll survive any danger you're in,' but it doesn't tell you that you'll constantly be in danger."

"Yeah, most definitely. But that does seem to work better for me than just about anything else. It helps that my lack of brain-to-mouth filter seems to weed out people too." He could have likely done better in friendship options than her, but Genesis liked having him around. "Yeah, I don't know of too many blessings that would have be around as many murderers as possible. I'd be real concerned if you couldn't say the same."

"Yeah, that tracks. I feel like you're also a magnet for people who've led absolutely bizarre lives." Then again, so was he. It made it easier to relate to people when that was the case. "If I didn't know better, I'd almost say it sounds like a blessing."

"I almost wish I could say that's the first time I've heard that in my life, but I'm not even sure if it would be true at this point. Like, if I had a penny every time I've heard that or close to it, I'd be pretty rich." It was an exaggeration, sure, but not by much at this point. "Honestly, I'm not sure if it's luck or a skill."

"You know, sometimes you make me feel like I've led a perfectly normal, healthy, reasonable life. Which is like... it would be impressive if it wasn't just so alarming." Did he have room to be concerned? No. But he couldn't help it. "The fact that you're still breathing will never not be a miracle, huh?"

"Actually, I don't think she would. The one time I was in trouble, she called Chance and stayed with me the whole time. And, no, not really. I have you and Darcy but Darcy's out in Nevada, and then there's Luna and Talyse but they're family so I don't really count them, and Aspen, he's new but he's cool. Zarina probably wouldn't use the word friends, I think she's just waiting to see how I manage to get myself killed. Salem is really not fond of Zarina. Then there's Liam but like, he's human human so probably not the smartest friendship for me to have because I'm fucking awful at secrets? Like, I don't think he'd believe me if I told him what I was level of human here. Being social doesn't mean good at making friends. I'm enough of a disaster that any sane person doesn't want to deal with that."

"Is it safe to assume there's a 50/50 chance said fuck buddy would leave you without help? ...and don't you have like 10,000 friends? You're the most social person I've ever met. Which, all considered, is saying a lot."

"Bold of you to assume I actually have that many friends. I call Chance and that's pretty much it. I'd call you before I called my momma Cadi and probably before I'd call my weirdly long time at this point fuck buddy."

"Okay, but let's be realistic here -- the only reason you haven't shown up bleeding heavily and needing help is because I'm like... at least fifth on the list of people you'd go to for that. Maybe lower."

"And yet you judge my life choices. Pot, meet Kettle. I get to be Kettle because I call dibs."

“I have a pretty long list of enemies. The detectives would never solve my murder.”

"Even I have lines." They were few and far between but she still had them and most of them revolved around food. Saucing cupcakes was one of those lines. "It's been way longer than I like since I've been stabbed," she muttered, digging through the bag for the mozzarella sticks first. "Single and sad about it which is fucking shit because we weren't even dating but it still feels like a shitty breakup."

"I think I would actually throw up if you put either of those things near a cupcake. And I'm not exactly squeamish." He gave her a grin when she said that. "What a coincidence. I'm also not healing from any stab wounds. Although, I guess only one of us is getting them for fun." That was one of those things he would never understand about her. He'd been stabbed and it sucked. But he didn't have room to judge. "Is that a good thing for you or are we single and sad about it?"

"You might actually be onto something. I mean, I'm the result of a fucked up science experiment by hunters and I was supposed to be dead before I was five. I'm literally half domestic dog. Like, who even fucking thinks of shit like that?" It still blew her mind that she existed in the first place, but she didn't like to dwell on it beyond the occasional joke. "Okay, one, it's a little funny and two, I was in my teens. Her name was Kris, she was the first one that actually tried to kill me. I mean, she did, technically speaking, succeed, but Eli was able to bring me back. The same could not be said for Kris after what Chance did to her."

"I think it's probably harder since you grew up around people who already know? I don't think I have any real idea how to interact with normal humans who don't know about magic. I do okay with ones who like... got tricked into making deals and have no idea what's happening, but even then it's... kinda hard?" He just... couldn't relate. "First off, I don't think we should be betting on our deaths. Second, Genesis, what the actual fuck?"

"I honestly try not to be rude, so I guess that helps. I do keep being told I need to learn not to overshare so much and I'm trying, but it's a lot harder when I'm around people that are either not human or know nonhumans exist." She liked not needing to hide who or what she was. "Ooh, that would be an interesting bet to make. I mean, I have technically died before."

"Oh, for sure. Although, being friends with me only gets you so much of a pass. I think if you were like... straight up rude, he'd still do it. But you're not really rude. You just overshare. And not even that, by fae standards, but Kiyoshi's not the most patient person I know." His nose scrunched at that reminder. "I know you'll still probably out live me, but I don't like the reminder that you're probably gonna get murdered."

"I think if I wasn't friends with you, he might have followed through on it," she muttered, pouting just a little at that. She was used to people not liking her, but she had, as far as she knew, never been cursed before. "I mean, I'm not actually immortal, shifters can live a couple hundred years, but still. Sage will likely outlive me even if I wasn't likely to get myself killed."

"Threatens implies no follow-through." He didn't think his brother had actually cursed too many people, but he knew the answer wasn't none. "Yeah, that tracks. There's definitely a difference when someone's ancient versus like... a century. And not just in mannerisms. ...dating gets kind of weird when immortality is at play, huh?"

"As tempting as that is, you know I like ketchup or barbeque sauce on my burgers neither one of them go great with cupcakes." Especially the ketchup, the thought alone enough to make her stifle a gag. "And lucky for you, this is probably the first time you've seen me without healing stabbing wounds."

"There are bacon burgers somewhere in the bag, but no bacon on the cupcakes and I'm not gonna lie, I think I'll be more than a little horrified if you change that." He knew that people loved that salty and sweet combination, but it was one he'd never managed to understand. "No kidnapping needed. I want to hangout with you and I'll never say no to junk food. I can't get half of this on my side of things."
