Underrated Miraculous Fic writers

So I read a crapton of miraculous fanfics, and I often end up gravitating towards particular fic writers over and over. Most of the time a lot of other people have clearly noticed the same thing, as their stories tend to get tons of kudos - but not always. Some of the fic writers I read most reliably get very little attention, for one reason or another. Usually because they tend to write for a particular niche that I like but isn't overwhelmingly popular throughout the fandom, but other times I have no idea why their stories aren't more popular.

Anyway, I wanted to spotlight a few of those authors here!

If you're a fan of fics that really explore Chloe's character, look into her mindset and try to redeem her without relying on shortcuts or making other characters look worse in comparison, then you've probably at least dabbled in his fics before. I'm especially partial to his newest fic "In Direct Opposition", as Alya's the main POV character and is looking to reform Chloe while navigating this whole akuma situation, and Control, a Senti!Chloe fic where Marinette accidentally stumbles across Chloe's Amok and has to decide what to do with it.

Accidents Are Also Miracles is particularly noteworthy, as it's the single longest completed Marigami-centric fic in the fandom. It's a fantastic story that I highly recommend checking out!

Trisha often writes Felix-focused fics, delving into his trauma with being raised by Colt, and him trying to be a better person. Not that it's just introspective pieces, a lot of their fics are pretty action-based with serious stakes and villains who are only too willing to hurt the heroes and innocent bystanders, and even kill them. I'm especially partial to their Madness series, which is a sprawling AU, touching on Felix's and Adrien's childhood, but soon fast-forwarding to the present-day, with Chat Noir and Ladybug confronting Felix about Monarch's Miraculous theft, and him seeing the errors of his ways and helping them. I particularly appreciate how viscerally Felix comes to understand how his actions hurt others, particularly the Kwamis, who he put in a similar position to what he himself had been in with Colt.

I love a lot of their fics dearly, they're well-written and scratch just the right itch! They mostly write Lovesquare fics, often with a more angsty bent.

I especially adore their enemies au fics:

Stealing Freedom, where Adrien's long been puppeted about using his ring by his father as Cat Walker, who, thankfully, Ladybug and Co. know is a Senti who has no choice in the matter - with Marinette then discovering that her fiance, Adrien, IS Cat Walker.

home is where the fight is, A short glimpse into a Ladrien enemies au, where Adrien's being controlled by his father into fighting her, but is dating Ladybug as a civilian - and Ladybug's secret identity has just been revealed to the world.

True Blue, Chatatonic's ongoing enemies au which I have recced numerous times, which takes the more unusual (and difficult) approach of having MARINETTE side with Gabriel instead of Adrien, and doing so while keeping her in-character by having Gabriel lean into his manipulation skills, telling her half-truths about how Adrien will be happier once his mother's back, and that ultimately the heroes are the ones being greedy and reticent in all this, and that the akumas all agree to help him, even if they don't remember afterwards. It's among the best Miraculous fics I've read this year so far!

Not that she only writes enemies au of course, she's written many other Lovesquare fics. I particularly enjoyed The Mer-Human Race, in which sailors and merfolk would have friendly competitions on who was faster in the water, with the winner being able to ask for some sort of prize. Marinette had been looking for a merman to race for awhile so that she could be granted a vessel of her own at a younger age than was normally permitted. Luckily, a Merman named Chat Noir showed up suddenly and offered to race her. Pity that her friend Adrien wasn't there to watch it...

Adrien: ...you just described Marinette.

Chloe: What? No, I-

*cue Marinette 'clumsily' catches someone's books after they tripped, apologized and flashed them a comforting smile and helps them on their feet*

Chloe:....

Adrien, grinning: See? I thought I could ask her out-

Chloe, cracking her knuckles: Back off, Agreste. That girl is mine.

Always awesome to see someone else's brain works spilled out! Up=aged voices are interesting to play with. I've done a couple up-aged stories. For Chloé(one was at 25 one at 28 I believe) I always keep the word 'sharp' in mind. It suits a lot of what I see as her core traits. Sharp- Clears the path, removes obstacles

Needs to be handled carefully, can injure you, even accidently, very quickly

Is a state of being, not an intent. Something sharp cuts because of how it is, not because it desires to

can be a part of healing as much as hurting. You want something sharp for surgery, right? 🤣 Sharp can mean fragile. The finest edge is also the one that dulls the easiest from use.

There are more ideas around that core, but it's getting late for me here. You'll post when you finish your fic right? I'm very curious to see it! I'm also wondering how the relationships of all the characters have developed. I love having something to look forward to :)

Oh, I love your definition of her, I am terrible with names, but I believe you wrote this really fantastic future fic where Chloé is sick and passed out sleeping in Mari's room, they are happily married and stuff, and I remember that edge in that one and how their relationship is described... I love that fanfic!

But Chloé in this is just a little more-- chill? If Chloé Bourgeois could even EVER be chill? This is as chill as she gets anyway, mostly due to influence of quasi-surfer dude Jack Lee-- (They have a very odd relationship, very "28 year old full adult Chloé Bourgeois and her 46 year old teenage son Jack Lee", and his mom full on applied the transitive property of "well, she is my granddaughter's sister, therefore she is also my granddaughter"), but she still has an edge, obviously...

My favorite aspect so far, is the complete flip on power dynamic, because Mari is most certainly on top and that has been interesting, because while we know Mari uses power responsibility, all Chloé can do is hope she did not became a vengeful bitch-- And Mari is in the Fashion industry now, so in Chloé's eyes--

And yes, I will publish it, if I finish it, and I hope I will! I just really need to get this idea out of my system!

What does it take for a rarepair to make the pinned list?

Literally it's just "if I find a post about a rarepair and reblog it, it'll get on the list of tags", because the pinned post serves as a directory for the blog.

I don't reblog posts with incestuous ships or ships with large age gaps (e.g. Gabriel/Marinette) because they hit squick points for me and I'm not comfortable with them. I don't do crossover ships here because they're in a different category that doesn't really fit in my opinion.

I have posts tagged as "add to tags" if I reblogged a post with a ship that isn't in the directory as a reminder for what I need to put on it.

yes! I am definitely learning more about that! Before, my goal was just getting through the levels so I had kind of a different approach for my builds/strategy. but now I’m trying to start the run with the end goal of defeating hades in mind, so I’m considering what kind of boons and combos would be most effective in that final fight, especially with the weapon I chose. if you have any tips im all ears lol!

I just wanted to say I agree with the 'don't blame Marinette' post you made. Her choices in the S5 finale run completely counter to lessons we've SEEN her learn throughout the series. Why? Because making the bad choices helps stoke drama and extend the plot into more seasons. That's all.

I don't *like* the person Marinette is right now, but I don't hate her. I just want her to stop. I want her to realize what she's doing. I want her to recognize she's consolidating power 'To protect the ones she loves' of course, but that's how so many very dark tales begin. Will the writers let her? Probably eventually.

I mostly just hate that I can't ship adrinette right now. The girl chose to gaslight the boy 8 ways from Sunday 'to avoid hurting him' Girl, he's already hurt, you just want to dodge the conversation and pain you'd go through explaining it to him. Like I get it, but it's still a bad dynamic for a ship. One person having vital knowledge (not to mention actual life knowledge about the senti-thing) over the other... bad dynamic no matter who it is.

Yeah, others know too, but she's the protagonist so they all go silent when she says 'no, we won't tell him.' Protagonist's burden :/

The upside to this is you can still watch S1-3 Marinette where she learns how to do... *exactly not this* and be proud of that girl just fine. What S4/5? The show ended after 3, right?

I think mostly I'm going to just focus on Movie!Marinette. That's a girl you can get behind. Caring, heroic, brave, and willing to take the risks rather than seeking to mitigate them all.

So while I choose to not to think too deeply about (or even acknowledge) certain newer details, it’s not like I’m going to argue with others about them. My frustration is purely in regard to people refusing to acknowledge who’s actually responsible for all of this.

Yeah, canon Marinette objectively sucks. Doesn’t change the fact that most of the characteristics that make her suck aren’t part of a thought-out character arc but rather the crew trying desperately to cover their own ass for their very poorly planned and executed “plot twist” finale.

Marinette fluttered through the thick falling snow in a near panic. It helped hide her, but also made finding her target that much harder. The streets of Paris were all but empty tonight. The storm had been going for hours and everyone smart was hunkered down to wait it out. A particularly large flake bopped her in the face, sending her spiraling almost into a drift. Being a fairy had its ups and downs sometimes. Marinette shook herself and fluttered up again. The beat of her wings was loud in her ears, her breath made little puffs from the exertion. Her cheeks were frozen but she wouldn't stop her search until... "Luka!" She spotted him trudging, hands in pockets, through knee deep snow. His collar was up and his head down. He was very much not wearing the scarf she had made for him. Seeing it hanging on the back of of chair had been what made her venture out. She sped directly into his chest, hugging as much of his snow-soaked jacket as her arms could reach. "M-m-m-mari-nette?"

He raised a hand to touch her, and it felt colder than the falling snow! She darted up in front of his face. "Luka, you're going to freeze!"

"N-n-nah, I'm f-fine. Just had to c-c-close the shop."

She fretted, "Where is your bicycle?"

He shifted his footing in the softpack. "C-c-couldn't ride, in s-snow." She was vibrating with concern. She caught hold of his upturned collar and started to pull. "Come on, I'll help!" Luka took two more lunging steps through the snow before stopping again. He brought his hands up and blew into them. His voice had dropped to barely a whisper. "J-just let me... warm... up"

He started shaking again, even as he blew. It was worse than before. Marinette let go of his collar, struggled with herself over a thought, then dove into his collar, wriggling her way in against his chest under his jacket. Instantly the fact that she was this close to Luka hit her. She felt her temperature spike, but she fought it. She recited patterns, needle sizes, yarn types, color shades, anything she could think of that would fill up her head. It worked, her heat leveled off. She felt a tough through the fabric of her little Luka-cave. "Marinette?"

Her wings fluttered fitfully against him, trapped as they were. "Am I helping, Luka?"

The touch moved along her back through the jacket, feather light. "You are." Even his voice sounded warm.

Luka resumed his trek, one crunching step at a time. Marinette held on, daring to burrow in a little, and kept thoughts of knitting flowing through her mind. Soon it became hard to think though. As Luka walked he began to hum. The vibrations in his chest lulled her, but she held on. She wanted him to be warm. She wanted him to be safe. She wanted... Marinette woke up with a start. She blinked into a candlelit gloom. She was under a blanket, no, stuck carefully in a mitten. She was back on the Liberty. Luka! Her wings buzzed as she fluttered them free, she had to- "I'm here Mari," Luka's soft voice reached her.

Marinette turned her head and there he was, sitting at the desk she was laid on, his chin on his arms. He had a blanket over his shoulders and a steaming mug on the table beside him. As she settled back into her mitten-bed he smiled at her.

"Glad you're up. I was worried you'd used up too much heat helping me. Here."He scooted a tiny thimble across the desk, then used a dropper to transfer a tiny potion of his cocoa to it for her.

Marinette reached for it, a blush creeping onto her cheeks. Sharing a drink with Luka! She lifted the oversized mug and took a sip, letting the revitalizing sweetness fill her up. She hadn't even realized how much her heat had dimmed. when she'd finished she realized Luka was still watching her, chin on arms again. She half-hid behind the thimble in embarrassment. A merry spark lit his eyes in response. "Thank you, Marinette."

A thank you, sharing a drink, snuggling under his jacket, being tucked into bed; all of it made her want to burst into flames again, but she knew, even with that risk that one thing was true. She looked up into those ocean blue eyes, "I'd do it again for you, anytime."

What would you think if an evilized villain(maybe a wishmaker-like villain or maybe even a villain that's unrelated to the butterfly miraculous) caused Chloe and Zoe to switch bodies somehow, and nobody fully understands what's going on, so Zoe(in Chloe's body) is taken by Audrey back to New York, despite Zoe desperately trying to explain things. But Chloe enters a fugue state(heavily due to trauma caused by the neglect of her parents) and genuinely thinks she's Zoe, and is even able to recall many of the things Zoe did due to being in Zoe's body. The class thinks "Zoe's" change in behavior is due to the psychological effects of method acting, since "Zoe" is playing Chloe in Astruc's new movie, but they gradually convince "Zoe" to let them help her relearn how to be "herself" again. Meanwhile, in New York, Zoe is trying to get back to Paris, but when she gets there, “Zoe” thinks she’s there to try to hurt Marinette.

Ah! Uh, well first of all, congrats on being the first person to send me an ask, and the first person besides my real life SO or bots to leave a notification of any kind. Wasn't expecting a guest so excuse the mess, if you will.

Getting back at hand! I wouldn't think much of it, to be honest. It'd definitely would be fun, though I feel as though I've seen someone else asked this and answered to a far better extent that I. Distinctly remember in fact. Had to have been either Flightfoot or Generalluxun. Anyways, getting to see Chloe be given the chance to both have her behavior properly corrected while also having a support group in place to encourage and listen to her would be more than nice.

To be honest, not a fan of the fugue state idea. As fun as amnesia and false memories are to play with, it doesn't feel thematically resonant with the emotional journey Chloe would have to go on to grow and change. She's an abused, angry, self absorbed kid who is in many ways isolated and withdrawn. The thought of her in some way finding redemption in running away from the things she has done and the emotions and memories she has doesn't sit well with me. She might fully embrace the lie of being Zoe, but I don't want her to depersonalize so much she loses her identity to the magic swap. It's all about confronting who she is and for the first time shes being given a genuine chance to do so without her father or Sabrina flat out enabling her behavior. Honestly the set up you have here for Chloe's character is a bit muddled, as theres so many little ways that being Chloe stuck in Zoe's body just falls apart if Chloe just... acts like Chloe. I get it, method acting, and Chloe blabbing about who she is and having that initial freak out is likely where I see you thinking would lead to said fugue state, but it'd take a strong writer to delicately balance things to keep both her actions in character while also keeping her on the rails. Doable, but so easy to either gloss over or mishandle and move too quickly into "let's just pretend to be Zoe now" phase without the necessary foundation for both Chloe and the reader.

Zoe on the other hand has the much more solid path for herself as you've set it up. As I see it, anyhow. Stuck in Chloe's body, stuck back in New York with her mother and being removed from her friends. Literal nightmare for the girl, especially after she has spent all that time building herself back up. She'll definitely slip initially into how she used to act, though now her mother is berating her as she would Chloe. Which would make things click for Zoe. She's grown enough to see past her mother's bullcrap. Well, if her mother is expecting a bullheaded out of control daughter, Zoe is a strong enough method actor to give her said bullheaded out of control daughter, but this time with Zoe's newly forged emotional core and backbone. Zoe is gonna quickly learn she does not need to put up with that crap anymore and isn't. That just makes the hurdle in some way getting back to Paris and convincing the others that something happened, which itself could provide the writer an great opportunity to expand on the magical/super-powered aspect of New York/America in the Miraculous world. Something which my SO who I beta-read for, Pearl484, is doing with their fic Replay, though it's going to be a loooong while before they get to the point of reaching all that New York stuff, although they're definitely already expanding the magical lore.

On topic as to how said body swap were to happen, it'd have to be some kind of magic spell, super villain, or bizarre mad science because anything akuma related would immediately get fixed by Ladybug. No way around it, I'm afraid. Akuma's just cannot do that kind of permanent damage to anyone without everything getting reset, and no way in hell is Gabby-boy going to just dismiss an akuma half way into some inane plot to get those Miraculous(es/Miraculi)(?) so theres no easy out except to make whatever swapped them unrelated to the Zodiac/Elemetal/Yin-Yang Set (which I feel like has a proper name that I'm just blanking on, but it's the main set that all of ther main heroes and villains get their miraculi from. Not to be confused with the American Miraculous set with the Eagle and all that).

In conclusion, I think it's a wonderfully fun idea that I'd love to see something done with. Dunno what made you ask me, Anon, but I more than appreciate the chance to just spew my thoughts at someone other than my partner. I still believe this exact idea/set up has been asked before to people far more entrenched in the world of Miraculous analysis and far more interestingly than I, though I'm happy to share my two cents.
