The Palace of Xuan Zhen
Among the Heavenly Court, the Palace of Xuan Zhen has the same function as that of any other Martial God: it houses him and his deputies, acting as a base of operations and an address where the general can usually be contacted if he's not on a mission. However, while its function is the same as the palaces of Ming Guang or Nan Yang, his inner organisation is quite unique.
The inner workings of the Palace of Xuan Zhen strongly resemble those of a cultivation sect or even a large merged family. It houses roughly a dozen deputies at any given time, and these deputies share the responsibility over the Palace's order and cleanliness in addition to their duties as representatives of the Martial God of the Southwest. Gardening, cooking, and cleaning are considered every bit as important as the managing of prayers that don't need Xuan Zhen's personal attention and missions in the Mortal Realm, and Xuan Zhen's standards are exacting for all his deputies's work; as a result, the Palace of Xuan Zhen is an epitome of order, routine, and discipline.
Deputies In addition to a guardian of the Southwest, Xuan Zhen is specifically known as a protector of children; his temples a safe haven for those downtrodden children who have nothing, where they are sheltered from the elements and can eat the offerings from his altar. It's well known that the general often either sends his deputies down or descends personally to tend to certain children; it's less well-known that some of those children will later be brought up to the Heavenly Court as a deputy of Xuan Zhen. Currently, all of his deputies were once children who sheltered in his temple during a desperate time in their life and later showed immense potential, drawing Xuan Zhen's eye anew. Towards them, the general shows patience in teaching them the ways of his Palace and letting them settle in, as well as the kindness and generosity for which he is known among his worshipers; his strict but fair treatment of his deputies, his demands that they pull their weight domestically as well as in heavenly matters, and his tendency to personally check in on them and help them if needed, leads to many of his deputies viewing him as a father figure or a teacher. The deputies among themselves address each other as martial siblings, and more than one has accidentally referred to Xuan Zhen himself as 'shizun' or even 'shifu;' a title that has stuck and is now often used among the deputies, though not towards Xuan Zhen himself out of respect for his position in the Heavens.
Xuan Zhen's current head deputy is Zhao Xiang, a fanatically devoted young man whose skill with a polearm is second only to his skill in wrangling the names of his shidis and shimeis into the weekly chore roster and the speed with which he gathers, summarizes, and delivers reports to his general. He was promoted after his predecessor Ming Ze, affectionately known as Ming-ge to the other deputies, perished during White No-Face Jun Wu's rampage through the Heavenly Capital.
Xuan Zhen knows the names, birthdates, interests, and key history of all his deputies by heart, including those who no longer serve him. He remembers and honours Ming Ze and the other deputies lost to the conflict with Jun Wu each year, on the anniversary of their passing. His deputies either join him or hold their own private rites, depending on personal preference.

Feng Xin lays in the dust in the arena, breathing heavily, looking up at the demon grinning at him. He doesn't feel bad about losing - the bastard is incredibly good with his sword and it was hard for the archer to match him, but the disappointment that his loss decided the fate of one of his colleagues is more painful. For a moment Feng Xin wondered why the Heavenly Emperor had chosen him for this duel in the first place, but the thought has no time to fully form when the man rises from his throne and announces in a thunderous voice that the demon has earned his reward. As promised he will give a god that will make the perfect spouse for him.
And his choice is General Xuan Zhen.
Feng Xin instantly finds a familiar face in the crowd. They've known each other for so long - sometimes he feels that the slightest detail - the sound of footsteps, a shadow - is enough for him to recognize the man.
He looks shocked, an emotion so foreign to his collected image. The guilt becomes nauseating.
The two have an uneasy relationship. Some would even say that the generals of the South hate each other, but even in their worst times of communication, Feng Xin would not wish Mu Qing, that proud independent bastard such a fate.
"Anyone else? Any god can still compete for the general's hand."
Mu Qing's face turns into a grimace of disgust.
"Wait!" the god of the southeast wants to shout, but his protest dies quickly. What can he do for him-he's already lost.
"Since there are no other volunteers-"
There are no volunteers. After Nan Yang’s crushing defeat, the gods stare at the demon in a daze, afraid to even think of what would happen if one went against his will.
Suddenly, a figure in black easily jumps off the podium and exposes a blade challenging the demon. General Xuan Zhen looks dangerous in the light of the setting sun. His frowning eyebrows, stubborn line of his mouth, cold black eyes and clenched jaw cause General Nan Yang a strange flutter in his chest. Of course. Mu Qing will not let anyone decide his fate for him.

MQ who absolutely loves physical affection, especially when he’s sleeping because it helps him relax and feel safe.
FX who hates being touched when he’s sleeping, and gets bitchy when his sleep is disturbed. But when it’s his MQ, hell, he’ll do anything to see him smile. So he gets over himself and pulls MQ into his arms as they’re going to sleep, kisses the top of his head and whispers,
“You’re absolutely perfect Qing’er, I love you.”
And MQ just squeaks as he gets too nervous to reply, so as a response, he just curls up more in FX’s embrace and closes his eyes to try and sleep as FX covers them both up with the blanket. And takes all his bitchiness out on the other gods the following morning in the weekly Wednesday meeting.

This entire weekend's brainrot has been Mu Qing's love languages and his feelings about them.
Mu Qing begins to feel like something is off, like he isn't doing enough for Feng Xin, because his 'receiving' love languages are physical touch and words of affirmation. He melts when Feng Xin praises him and he has never felt safer and more treasured than every night when Feng Xin curls up in bed with him, whether as the big spoon, as the little spoon, or face to face; but he doesn't feel like those same kinds of touches coming from himself are enough of an expression of his own affection, and lord knows Mu Qing doesn't speak words of affirmation at all. He struggles with reciprocating that which comes so easily to Feng Xin and worries that he's a bad lover because of it.
In truth, Mu Qing's 'giving' love language is just very different, and it's one he struggles to accept. Whether platonically to Xie Lian or his deputies, or romantically to Feng Xin, Mu Qing gives affection through acts of service. And he hates it. When he makes tea, mends robes, cleans around the Palace or Puqi Shrine, or prepares a bath for Feng Xin, he fears that he is once again taking on his old role as a servant. 800 years have passed: Mu Qing has grown into one of the most powerful, popular, and dignified Martial Gods in the Heavenly Court. But he still cannot outgrow his past and discard his old habits, as if being a common servant is his 'true nature' and he's trying to fool himself and everyone around him into believing he's anything else. He has a handful of minor breakdowns over this.
So between mistaking his 'receiving' love languages as having to be his 'giving' love language, and thinking that his actual 'giving' love language degrades him, Mu Qing's not having a good time for a bit there. He'll accept it and thrive in his relationship eventually. But yes, that may take some interference from everyone's favourite God of Love.
