Note
I’ve noticed General Tazri, Najeela the Blade-Blossom, and now Ezio D’auditoire are all single-color legends that provide benefits to a creature type (Ally, Warrior, and Assassin) and have a WUBRG activated ability. Was that intentional?
We didn't accidentally put a five color activation on them if that's what you're asking. : )

A two-part story I posted via Twitter Threads
She did not expect her next meeting with a member of the Gatewatch to be by randomly seeing them in her streets.
"Jace!" she called out "Long time no see! What brings you to Zendikar?"
His answering grimace was unexpected.
"General Tazri" he said "I…bring news about Gideon."
The following conversation left her tired and emotionally drained.
She closed her eyes, focusing on the image Jace had magically shared with her, of the statue they had built in his honor.
"I'll talk to some people" she said "they'll be happy to build a matching one here."
"You know he'd probably hate that, right?" Jace said with a humorless chuckle "not that it stopped us from doing it."
"If he didn't want us to built statues in his honor" Tazri replied, shrugging "then he should have thought first before becoming Zendikar's hero."
----
Over the following years, Jace became a regular — although infrequent — presence at Sea Gate. He'd come by, theyd sit down for a drink and update each other on the going-ons of Zendikar specifically and the multiverse as a whole.
And then, shortly before the invasion, it stops. She figures that the Gatewatch is far too busy dealing with the fallout of a whole new brand of horror from beyond the stars for a friendly visit. Her schedule is certainly full.
And then one day she hears Chandra Nalaar shouting her name and she knows she lost another friend.
The pyromancer looks, on one hand, exactly like the bright young woman that burned two Eldrazi titans to ashes. On the other, she looks older beyond her years, a tiredness in her eyes that wasn't there last time they saw each other. It's a look she sees all too often on Zendikar.
She takes Chandra to the same place she'd go to with Jace and they exchange tales. The pyromancer might not have Jace's telepathy, but she is an eager storyteller all her own and soon she is updated on the entire mess that was the Phyrexian Invasion everywhere else.
As their conversation winds down, she declares "Well, guess we will need to build another statue. Next to Gideon's."
"You know he'd probably hate that, right?" Chandra says, unwittingly echoing Jace's past words.
"I'd assume so" she replies "But here's the thing, Chandra – all of you are heroes of Zendikar. I'm sure there are already multiple statues of each of you all over the plane." she takes a sip of her drink and continues "and by the gods I would build a whole plaza in your honor. So if you don't want a statue yourself, stay alive. Got it?"
A moment of silence.
"Also drop by every now and then. I don't want to associate the sight of you with death." she finishes, taking another sip.
Chandra laughs before replying "Sure. When we find a path here, I'll convince Nissa we should get a house close by, how about that?"

To Sheoldred and Urabrask:
If Elesh Norn were to be defeated and destroyed in the soon-to-come full-fledged Phyrexian Invasion by the remaining Gatewatch and their anti-Phyrexian allies, what do you expect they will make of you? The Gatewatch view themselves as heroes, and I doubt that they would dare to kill a foe that they had but so recently found themselves on the "same side" as them, especially if that foe was not posing an immediate lethal threat.
The Gatewatch's battles with Nicol Bolas and the Eldrazi demonstrate that they seem to take joy in the idea of the imprisonment of the leaders of their enemies, whether on the moon or on the Meditation plane. Do you believe that they would try to lock each of you up as soon as Elesh Norn is no longer a threat in this scenario? Even this would surely, one would expect, strike them as hypocritical given how effective your efforts have been at destabilizing her regime, without which it is reasonable to think this defeat of Elesh Norn would not have been possible?
Do you think that perhaps they, like General Tazri in her war against the Eldrazi, simply "no longer have the luxury of choosing [their] comrades"? It seems as though the vampires of Zendikar ended up unpunished for what the Gatewatch surely viewed, for the most part, as villainous and immoral. Might the Gatewatch let you survive unpunished as well?
Or do you suspect they simply hope that Elesh Norn, or even Tezzeret, will do "the dirty work" of killing you for them?
I lack the liberty of pondering these questions. My people and I are desperate, and we must--regrettably--seek the alliance of any parties possible to secure our freedom.
If they are fool enough to attempt imprisoning me as thanks for my people's help, my fire will burn as bright for them as it does for Norn.
-U
Oh, ha! Of course they'll turn on us, silly. That's the way people work. That's how all real power works. That's why we simply backstab them first.

2023-05-19 game 2
Landon - Rayne, Academy Chancellor
Dakota - Osgir, the Reconstructor
Travis - Duke Ulder Ravengard
Dan - General Tazri
Allies gave me a shot at getting my first LtM win, but Travis left early and Dakota piloted Duke to the victory. Stealing and saccing my important allies each turn slowly grinded out the victory for Duke :(

4 and 24 for magic asks!
4. Favorite card(s)?
Olivia Voldaren and General Tazri (because favourite characters), Edgar Markov (because there's a very sentimental story behind how I acquired the card), Stensia Masquerade and Shark Typhoon (love to use these in my decks), and Wedding Ring (because I think it's very funny to act like I'm proposing to someone at the table every time I play it).
24. Have you read any of the Magic novels? If so, which ones?
I read Sundered Bond and it's the reason I hate Lukka so, so, so much.

Tribal Warfare - Ally
Okay...tribes.
Advisor? No support, and the colors are all over the place.
Aetherborn? Some potential, but lacks the critical mass to flesh out a deck.
Ally? Now we’re talking!
Allies have it all.
Critical Mass puts them at 95 creatures, decent enough considering they’re only from the 5 Zendikar sets.
A lot of the creatures are meh, but you can carve out 30-40 cards over 5 colors you want in your deck.
Lords - they’re like slivers, they’re all lords for each other, so no real need to worry. Bring a few mass blinking effects to really abuse them.
Support - just like lords, they support each other. Rally and Cohort are exclusively tied to Allies, and are really fun in EDH, especially Munda’s Vanguard’s Cohort.
Legendaries - they’re all over the board, doing different things in different colors. Akiri and Bruse Tarl love fighting, Mina and Denn are good ramping, Zada makes single target buffs hit the whole team, and more.
Commander - Though there’s plenty of options, the go-to is General Tazri. She can run an amazing Food Chain deck that’s like Tier 1 in cEDH, or switch it up to Ally tribal when you wanna do that.
Final Thoughts: One of the more non-traditional tribes of MtG doesn’t see as much play as it could. It’s really cheap to build in the tribal mode. The 5C mana base can start simple (gates and 1 life lands) and slowly get upgraded over time. It can have two options - one for cEDH and one for Tribal casual. A great tribe for Commander players to look at.
Ratings
Newbie Friendliness: 9/10
Raw Tribal Power: 6/10
cEDH Potential: 10/10
Affordability: 8/10
With a fistful of great ratings, Ally is our first and best tribe that we’ve evaluated, and is likely to stay that way for a while.

Arcane Allies
I’ve done a few posts about Arcane Adaptation, and there’s plenty more that could happen, but this weekend, due to the Standard Rotation, Battle for Zendikar, Oath of the Gatewatch, Shadows over Innistrad, and Eldritch Moon are no longer part of Standard. I’d like to take a moment to remember Allies, especially keeping in mind that anything you want can be an Ally when you’ve got an Arcane Adaptation-effect. General Tazri loves this, and would gladly search for any creature in your library (even an Eldrazi Titan).
When all your other creatures (even tokens) are Allies, this basically just reads “it gets +1/+1 until end of turn for each other attacking creature,” which isn’t a bad thing.
“Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, creatures you control gain haste.” Which is pretty helpful if you’re putting out a lot of creatures, and you don’t need to worry about making sure a specific one is the last one out. Firemantle Mage is somewhat similar, except Menace instead of Haste. Makindi Patrol for Vigilance, Kor Bladewhirl for First Strike, Ondu Champion for Trample, Tajuru Beastmaster gives +1/+1 to all creatures on the battlefield whenever a creature enters the battlefield (if multiple creatures enter at the same time, keep in mind they see themselves and the others all entering, and get all bonuses), Tajuru Warcaller is the same except being +2/+2 instead of just +1/+1. Lantern Scout is a great one, and saved me more than a few times, but now it doesn’t matter what creature I play to get Lifelink. I especially like combining this with Resolute Blademaster for Double Strike.
Grovetender Druids can make a supply of Plant Allies following your first creature, equal to the amount of mana you have available.
Hero of Goma Fada is a lot like Chasm Guide, but one of the main things holding it back was that it was, for the most part, limited to your own turn. With Arcane Adaptation and anything instant-speed (Cloudshift hijinks, Flash creatures, activated ability that produces tokens, etc), any creature entering the battlefield under your control gives your creatures Indestructible.
Kalastria Healer? Each creature is an extra life for you, and one step closer to defeat for each of your opponents.
Since we’re not talking about Standard, it’s important to note that with Arcane Adaptation, Munda takes notice of any creature card. But even without the Adaptation, he also can keep around Changeling instants and sorceries, since they are allies as well, and his ability doesn’t specify creatures.
Most Allies tend to care only about entering the battlefield (except for Cohort abilities), but there are a few that are different, such as Veteran Warleader. Instead of tapping an Ally, since all of your creatures can be Allies with Arcane Adaptation.
We’re going beyond the recent rotation for this one, but Halimar Excavator is worthy of mentioning, in no small part because it is blue and it does count the Allies (or just creatures with Arcane Adaptation) on the battlefield. So from a normal board state without any Allies you can play the Adaptation making everything allies and raising some eyebrows, then play the Excavator to mill target opponent equal to the number of creatures you control. Another creature enters the battlefield? Mill your opponent equal to the number of creatures you control.

The angel and vampire hovered above the camp, staring each other down. The other explorers merely resumed their business, indifferent to the clash of good and evil above them.
“I don’t know why Tazri hired you, monster,” Linvala growled.
“Likewise,” Zagras hissed, through a fanged grin. “I don’t care if you are the general’s pet chicken. Favoritism does you no favors out here.”
“Nor do your vulturous ways!”
Linvala raised her staff, which began to glow with holy light. Zagras flexed his claws, and the smoke cloud trailing behind him turned dark as night.
“Would you two settle down?”
Both Linvala and Zagras were seized by their boots, and dragged to the ground with an unceremonious thud. Before either could recover, they were then pulled up painfully by their ears, and brought to eye level with a snarling Tazri.
“Er…General Tazri!” Linvala greeted weakly. “I was just…”
“Trying to run me out of camp,” Zagras finished for the angel.
“I saw,” Tazri nodded. “And you, Zagras, were about to bite into our party’s only air support. Besides yourself, of course, though there’s surely no conflict of interests there at all.”
“Er…right.”
Zagras broke eye contact with Tazri, unable to meet her gaze. The general heaved a heavy sigh in response.
“Linvala, you’re going to apologize to Zagras.”
“But-”
“You’re going. To apologize. To Zagras.”
Linvala grimaced, but did as she was told. “My…apologies, Zagras.”
Tazri nodded. “All right. Now, Zagras, you’re going to apologize to-”
“No way. I won’t…uh…”
Zagras fell silent as he watched Tazri’s mouth set in a thin line.
“Sorry, Linvala.”
Seemingly satisfied, Tazri spoke.
“I don’t care whether you two get along. We’re stuck together. Unless either of you would care to head home...alone?”
Linvala and Zagras turned to grimace at the perilous path behind them, fraught with reaching brambles and low ceilings that had already proven a nightmare for the two fliers.
“…We’ll get along,” the pair sighed in unison.
“Good!” Tazri chimed happily.
[Adventuring party road trip, Tazri trying to keep her adopted angel and vampire children from killing each other.]

Note
I will ask this for people who got ticked from this
Why didn't “Tazri, Stalwart Survivor” have the “Ally” type since the two previous tazri's had the Ally type.
Only General Tazri was an Ally. Tazri, Beacon of Unity mentions "Ally" in its rules text, but she's a Human Warrior.
