The littles celebrated their second birthday yesterday! And by “celebrated” I mean I emptied the peanut butter jar making lunch for myself and my fiancee and remembered it was their birthday after already getting her permission for them to lick the empty jar and then we bought a cake for them at work so they could have it with their dinner. They will have more of a party day on Tuesday when we’ll go to the city, get them some nuggies, maybe take them to a pet store to pick out a toy, and go to see their grandma.

“W-What have you done!”

The vampiric bishop fell to his knees before the guards. He reached out uselessly with a claw, only for the humans to clamp a manacle around it. He quickly found himself restrained and dragged to his feet, facing a young lieutenant wielding twin blades.

“If you must know, bloodsucker,” sneered the woman, “we just deprived you of your unholy power. Funny, I always wondered what would be left without the super strength and speed. Not much, apparently.”

“Magic, created solely to spite my own. I suppose I should be honored.”

“Your conceit doesn’t surprise me,” laughed the captain. “Don’t flatter yourself. You are inspiration to no one.”

“Oh…oh? If not me, then who?”

“How pathetic. I won’t pretend that you aren’t just interested to gain an advantage…But, I suppose it doesn’t matter, now. It’s for our dinosaurs.”

“Aha! You claim the moral high ground, then sap the strength of your-”

“It’s to stop them from killing us all, you fool! And yes, unfortunately, that includes you.”

“…I beg your pardon?”

The captain rolled her eyes. “Have you noticed, how the dinosaurs are much larger than us?”

“Yes.”

“And have magic?”

“Yes.”

“World-ending magic, in many cases?”

“Yes- Oh…I see now.”

“You see now!” the captain parroted, with a laugh. “Never let it be said that we do nothing for you parasites!”

The vampire grumbled as the guards dragged him away, “Yes, yes, fine. Thank you very much for saving us from the likes of Zacama.”

“Zacama? Hah!”

The bishop startled at his captor’s laugh. “So, not Zacama?” he asked meekly.

“She’s a big dinosaur. Plenty strong, with strong magic to boot. But no, I had…another example in mind.”

“What?”

The captain shuddered.

“You don’t want to know.”

If you add the word “flying” before creature in the red activated ability, Zacama could be done as a monogreen card.

Speaking of Ikoria, the creatures there seemed to just… adapt and say no to the oil eventually. Ikoria’s behemoths seem to be extremely powerful. I know power scale rankings and such are very iffy matters, but how powerful would you say the Apexes are relative to other power houses on other planes, like the various Elder Dragons and similar?

The apexes are very strong creatures, but most of them aren't explicitly intelligent or like, sapient, in the way the Elder Dragons are. I don't think they'd stand a chance against any Elder Dragons. I'd find them comparable to the Elder Dinosaurs of Ixalan, who are similarly not explicitly sapient. Even then, I'd probably rank them, if I had to, slightly below the comparable Elder Dinosaurs, with the exception being Zilortha vs Zacama, which is a fight I'd love to see.

So because I never once had Combat Celebrant survive long enough to be of use, I don’t fully know the ins and outs of how it interacts with other things and effects until tonight. One of those effects being vigilance.

If I was aware that I can still exert Celebrant without needing it tapped, I definitely could have had another combat in the moment. But it was getting late and this was game two, and my brain was fucking done and stressed out with a Zacama on the board. And I had no interactions in hand to deal with it 🫠

Wait, I just realized. Jodhpur, Acreage Eternal is kinda OP as shit depending on the cards it's with. Like. Paying WUBRG for any card is insane, especially with cards that tap for any color like Chromatic Lantern. Like. Yeah, 5 mana for any card in the game, why not. 5 cost Eldrazi. 5 cost Enter the Infinite. 5 cost Primeval Spawn. There's probably a lot more I can't think of but like. Dang. I just have him as the commander in my Gates deck because it's an easy WUBRG commander but also like. Yeah, might as well splash in Ulamog and Zacama and Progenitus. And any card that let's you splash in 10+ cost cards is insane. I'm new to MTG (relatively) but like. I don't know, this seems like a really really good card to me?

Dino tribal is super strong and fun. Just need the ramp. The hunting card is great early. It counts when casting your commander for three early game for big swings turn 4 or 5

I’m rebuilding my dinosaur commander deck. Anyone got suggestions for bomb dinos to include?

Someone asked me to make Zacama into a goth mommy so here's that abomination. I wanted to go all in on the goth look but decided to make it look more like the stereotypical "goth gf" meme

Pirates, merfolk, and vampires all across Orazca stopped their skirmishes. The warring factions could only gaze up in awe and fear at the three-headed dinosaur on the horizon, approaching the edge of the city. Each of Zacama’s footfalls seemed to cover nearly a mile, and the earth trembled from each step. Only the Sun Empire soldiers continued their assaults, but even their efforts were halfhearted. The soldiers spurred their pet raptors, but the smaller dinosaurs merely sprinted past the enemy to get a better look at Zacama’s approach.

Soon the elder dinosaur had reached the city gates, and easily cleared them with another step. Its rear foot caught on the wall, however, and the titan began to wobble. It threw its minuscule arms out in a desperate attempt to regain its balance, but to no avail.

“Uh…move…MOVE!”

The factions all briefly looked around to see who had spoken, but quickly abandoned their search in favor of following the speaker’s advice. Everyone in Zacama’s way fled to the titan’s sides, save for a lone goblin deckhand whose course was quickly corrected by an ogre throwing him into her back as she ran.

“IT’S COMING DOWN!”

Zacama landed atop the buildings of Orazca headfirst. The resulting earthquake created giant ravines in the earth, swallowing soldiers and their mounts whole. Wheeled cannons fired prematurely from the force, blasting holes in the walls of several buildings Zacama’s fall had not touched. Soon fires were breaking out across Orazca, and the sounds of furious fighting had been replaced with the sounds of panicked screaming.

All the while Zacama lay prone on the ground, still dazed from the tumble, and thankfully in no position to further destroy the city, at least for the moment.

I have this sort of broken Izzet deck (red / blue) with a version of Niv Misset with card draw. There's a ton of versions with different effects. From playing over the years with people in public, card draw is probably the single most consistent advantage in a game. Card draw with damage effects is pretty cool too in terms of economy. The more effects the better unless you get easily confused which happens often to me with or without this commander. It doesn't beat something like Zacama where you can just pay mana to cannon stuff off the board if you feel like it. But that's very easy to see coming in a game and remove. More cards? More options to improvise. I also never realized until playing more online that +1 effects like on Mizzium Tank stack per round. Say every time you cast a spell on your turn, the tank gets a buff. You can crew it with one, cast a bunch of spells and duplicate them with something like 1000-year storm, and do twenty to face with trample. I've played with people with way more confusing mechanics. Sometimes they get going in a round and it's like they're playing an entire game by themselves for ten minutes. I think that's everyone's barrier to playing collectible card games in person. Everybody I've played with has this negative male energy of having to win before the game even starts. Like it's some magic trick. Some guy breaks out a Gideon planeswalker deck and beats you in five rounds with an over enthusiastic grin. You swear they were cucking you if they hadn't spent four hundred dollars on a deck to beat you with. That's capitalism for you. Maybe I just don't like men. No offense to anybody here. .. I also hate the word brother. But I'm an only child. There’s a certain type of guy who plays magic that way. You’re free to be mansplained the rules as they beat you. Feels good man. Next time you try to advertise crypto with crocs? Try not to be so literal. My feelings aren't as fragile as your fiscal health. If you want to play with broken mechanics? Why not give the stock market a try?
