Skywalkers apart au! It's so precious that Anakin gets to be a dad, a rebellion general Dad but he gets to be there for at least one of them and Padme survives and gets to be a mom and maybe someday they get to meet and it's so good.
Also the concept of General Skywalker of the Rebellion feels like it has so much potential cause he was such a big figure in the Clone Wars, he was the Hero, the General, he could probably get the various splinter rebel cells (they were very divided in the early Rebellion) to follow him by sheer reputation and charisma. Imagine Anakin being at Hoth, like the attack is going along the usual Imperial imminent victory and suddenly an AT-AT has been thrown clear across the landscape and an announcement sounds out "General Skywalker has entered the field" cue Rebel Counterattack due to morale boost and Imperial Panic.
What happened to the 501st here? Did he go to the Venator's crash site where Ahsoka was during Order 66 what did he think when he saw all the dead folks?
Fun thought, Starkiller being the apprentice in this AU, means that Sidious has probably been comparing him to Anakin (in part because he's bitter he didn't fall, in other part cause it's great for fueling the darkside) for years so the first time they face off he's gonna be full of spiteful hatred (all going according to plan) before Starkiller gets styled on by the Skywalker, cause Anakin isn't crippled by the suit and that means he's still massively powerful in the force and skilled in the blade (Vader was too, but less than a whole Anakin), I could see Anakin pulling a Lightside version of the Rogue One Hallway scene against Stormtroopers (or even inquisitors).
Rebel General Anakin Skywalker would be an Imperial Boogeyman.
Leia would probably appreciate it for a while but also she'd get a bit annoyed about her dad's reputation and "Legend" and the fact that she's probably got that entire thing to measure up to, making her more reckless or foolhardy. That's a big shadow to live under.
Padme on the other hand is probably in a very different situation reputation wise, she was the senator for the new Emperor's home planet, she's the old queen of naboo from the Trade Federation attack, she's a founding member of one of the oldest discrete rebellion cells but that still leaves some stigma. She's probably so very worried about Imperial surveilance on her or Luke or the rest of her family, and it doesn't help that the Inquistorious has probably been sniffing around for a while.
ok this is a veeeeery long ask so i'm gonna have a veeeery long answer which is gonna go under this readmore:
YES!! yes absolutely! tbh i decided a while back he never gets an official promotion to general, everyone just calls him General Skywalker for so long that it sticks loll. BUT YEAH I mean working with a Jedi is rare and awe-inspiring enough for any rebellion cell but working with the hero with no fear??? half the rebels are wondering if they can interrupt this mission to ask for his autograph
its extra funny bc for the first few years of the empire he's lowkey depressed and like agh i failed the order republic AND my family i'm a terrible horrible no good jedi who nearly turned to the dark side and while he's having this spiral there's some rebel standing next to him pointing and pogging
and yeah he's SO useful in big battles like that!! he's half a legend, half a ghost story, given most ppl think he died in the Purge but here he is, enacting justice on the empire!! tho he does struggle on quieter missions (which happen a lot more at first bc gotta hide from the empire) that you cant just blaze into. its a difficult shift to go from clone wars general skywalker to rebel general skywalker
yeah 501st same as canon ): but OHHH MY GOD yes thats SUCH A PERFECT IDEA, Anakin going with Rex and Ahsoka to the site and mourning them all (and probably going into another depression spiral lbr)
youre so right lollll obvs leia loves the one up she has in an argument of "well my dad's general skywalker, beat that" but as u say she absolutely wants to live up to that (+ is a very independent/stubborn person and would like Leia Skywalker, not just "General Skywalker's daughter" lol)
AND YEAH ABSOLUTELY Padmé and Anakin's roles in this au are both so interesting (is that egotistical to say) bc they're these upside down versions of their clone wars roles, both very loud people forced to quieten down and be Discreet about how they go abt helping ppl. Padmé is really struggling hiding so much (luke's force sensitivity, her rebel activities, all relations to anakin) and trying to protect Luke while helping the Rebellion WHILE trying not to seem suspicious. a lot on her plate -- only made worse by palpatine keeping a close-ish eye on her, and she can't tell why (is it bc of luke? the rebellion? anakin? or is it just his old favouritism or patriotism being VERY inconvenient??)
on the inquisitors, obvs you don't see a lot of them on coruscant -- but padmé's SO scared abt ppl (MAINLY SIDIOUS WHO, YA KNOW, TRIED TO TURN LUKE'S DAD SITH) finding out abt him and she hates that she's making him repress this part of himself but what choice does she have???

Hyperspace Beacons: The Empire of the Hand’s unique way of navigating the Chaos
Another in my Empire of the Hand world-building series, written for my fanfic series. Please see my document on Nirauan, the capital planet, here, on the Empire of the Hand's capital ships here, and on the Empire of the Hand military's ranks and the Explorer program here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
How Hyperspace travel seems to work in most of the Galaxy Far Far Away:
It seems that very little thought was actually put into how exactly hyperspace works in Star Wars, but there a few "rules" that seem to pop up (mostly) consistently:
Firstly: You can't jump to hyperspace while still within the effects of a large gravity well -- i.e. a planet.
(Note: Rise of Skywalker can eat a bag of dicks for ignoring this long-established rule first set by Han Friggin' Solo in Ep. 4 for Force's sake!)
Second: Objects in real space cast "mass shadows" in hyperspace, so you can't go right "through" a star, for example, without killing yourself.
Third: When ships unexpectedly encounter a large mass while in hyperspace, they will exit into real space as a precaution. This is the basis for how interdiction technology works, where an artificial gravity well is generated to give the appearance of a large mass, and ships are either pulled out of hyperspace, or prevented from jumping to begin with.
Fourth: There are a lot of chaotic, unexpected and unpredictable large objects (i.e. large asteroids, rogue planets, black holes, etc) in most of the Unknown Regions/The Chaos, which makes hyperspace travel through the region a lot more difficult than in the rest of the galaxy.
Fifth: Hyperspace travel is very fast. No consistent speed is given, and travel times in stories vary by plot, but it is implied it takes no more than about two weeks to travel all the way across the diameter of the Galaxy. If we assume the Galaxy Far Far Away (GFFA) is similar in size to the Milky Way, that would mean it has a diameter of about 100 000 lightyears. That's so fast I can't do math well enough to determine just how fast it is. Compare that to another well-established sci-fi franchise, where it was predicted the “hero” ship would take about 70 years at maximum warp to travel across the galaxy (they found a few shortcuts, but still).
My idea, based on the rules established above (in both Legends and Disney Canon) is that when a ship "jumps to 'lightspeed' ", what they are actually doing is jumping into a dimension where the speed of light is not the absolute speed limit it is in our universe (or in SW's "real space", presumably). The time spent in hyperspace is actually the time it takes the nav computer /astromech droid /Navigator /skywalker/etc. to plot the course based on how fast they can determine where mass shadows lie along the wanted path.
Therefore, it's not the Millennium Falcon's engines that are fast, for example, it's the ship's nav computer.
Ships "pop out" of hyperspace when the nav computer/whatever determines where the "exit" is. With well-established hyperspace routes, this is why a planet can be “blockaded” by just blocking off a small area in the orbit of the planet, as seen with Queen Amadala’s escape from Naboo in Episode One, when logically, a ship should be able to jump from any point in space as long as they were far enough away from the gravity well. It’s not the planet itself that is being blockaded – it’s the long-established hyperspace jump point. Heading for a different point is like making a beeline for a highway instead of using the exit ramp – technically doable, but likely to wreck your vehicle if you try.
Say, for example, you were plotting a course between Tattooine (Outer Rim) and Alderaan (Core) . There are X number of stars and planets between your "entrance" and "exit". The nav computer's job is to plot the most efficient course around those large masses that occur between the two points, and the hyperspace engines do little more than open the entry and exit points into real space at either end. It accesses its most up-to-date astrometrics information available (likely through the holonet, and knowledge of well-maintained hyperspace routes) and plots its course accordingly. The time spent "in" hyperspace is the time it takes the computer to finish its calculations. For well-established routes, the computer doesn’t even try to plot a new course – it just reads the “road map” and follows that.
This is also why the non-inhabited planets of any given solar system in the GFFA tend to be ignored. Unless there’s something in the outer solar system of interest (i.e. a metal-rich asteroid belt), nobody’s going to be visiting Saturn when they can jump right to Earth. Hyperspace routes to outer planets are simply not established at all, and when plotting new routes takes so much comparable “work” (comparable to blazing a new trail instead of taking already-established highway), most people and computer systems simply don’t bother.
This system, as imperfect and even counter-intuitive as it seems, does seem to be so much the norm in the majority of the GFFA that even people who perhaps should understand the value of blazing new trails (i.e. the Rebellion, smugglers) almost never even think to do so, never mind bother.
In the Unknown Regions, however, there are so many objects going every which way that real-time astrometrics information is required, and nobody has apparently figured out a way to do this except for using the Force.
The Empire of the Hand's Hyperspace Beacons:
However, a clever use of communications technology could end the dependency of a relatively tiny portion of most species' populations.
Using an Imperial probe droid as a basis, the Empire of the Hand has developed a "hyperspace beacon".
A Viper probe droid, as seen in The Empire Strikes Back, the basis for the Empire of the Hand's hyperspace beacons.
Dropped in small clusters, in regular intervals in real-space, the beacons continuously scan real space around their locations, and communicate astrometrics to any ships that can pick up their signals, who are part of the beacons’ network. The network is only usable by ships with nav computers or specially programmed astromech droids that can pick up the signal. To everyone else, the data looks like regular space background radiation (R2-D2 or other similarly “independently-minded” astromechs might be able to pick up on it themselves, but such droids are a rarity). All ships on the network can use it to communicate with each other as well as the beacons, and the network can act as a safety tether to track ships’ locations and to call for help in the event of emergencies.
A line of beacons could act like a "trail of breadcrumbs" or “railroad tracks”, and allow ships to safely and efficiently navigate through the Unknown Regions/The Chaos without reliance on a Force User, since all the beacons working together transmit real-time data. The beacons are dropped in clusters so that if one becomes damaged, the others in its group can cover for it until repairs are completed. If all the beacons in any given cluster are disabled, a star destroyer is dispatched to the nearest other beacon cluster on the “trail”, then uses jump-by-jump navigation to get to the beacons’ last known location to investigate.
One of the primary purposes of the Empire of the Hand’s Explorer program is to drop these beacon clusters as they go, using their own powerful sensors to plot "microjumps" through hyperspace (journeys of less than a light year) and creating trails of beacons as they, well, Explore.
To a lesser extent, Navy vessels also drop beacons, though they usually follow the paths the Explorers establish for them.
Also, because Explorers create these beacon trails, when they get in trouble, they can signal the nearest Star Destroyer for help, and by "following the breadcrumbs", the Star Destroyer can arrive at their location much faster than they would be able to otherwise.
Similarly, established “beacon tracks”, like that down “Thrawn’s Cut” between Watchtower Station, just outside the border with the Chiss Ascendency, and Nirauan, can make travel between these points far faster and more efficient than traditional hyperspace routes, since the nav computers need to spend far less time checking their routes, instead following the paths the beacons tell them to. Such “tracks” connect all the major systems in the Empire of the Hand.
Hyperspace Beacons’ Strategic Benefits:
Hyperspace beacons can also be used in the “known” regions of the Galaxy to give the Empire of the Hand a navigational (and thus strategic) advantage, letting them carve their own paths around and through known systems of interest, regardless of established hyperspace routes. Probe droids can be delivered by jump-by-jump scouts (often Explorer ships) to the outskirts of a solar system, which, as established earlier, are usually ignored. The droids are small and independent enough to travel well into a system on their own, then go into low power mode (which subsequently makes them extremely difficult to detect), to wait to activate their beacon signal, which Hand ships can use to jump into (and out of) a solar system well away from established hyperspace entry/exit points.
As was utilized in the Honoghr mission, where a probe droid was used to find the asteroid in the outer solar system, which would be sent on a collision course to the planet of the race that murdered Grand Admiral Thrawn
"Nightfall of the Final Day"
This technique, the “Faro Ambush”, was first developed by Admiral Karyn Faro for use against enemies of the Hand and later saw extensive use in the Far Outsider War. It is very similar to the “Thrawn Pincer” technique, which uses interdiction ships, only it does not block off entry/exit to and from hyperspace. It is thus not used to trap enemy forces, but to just get the jump on them. It is not a technique that can be used on the fly – it requires planning. However it can be used to devastating effect against hit and run targets, allowing attacking ships and fighters to come in from a course not expected by the enemy.
Systems of interest within New Republic, Imperial Remnant and Chiss Ascendency space have had their solar systems “seeded” with probe droids on stand-by, so that the Hand Navy can jump in and help if needed.
Cultural Ramification of Hyperspace Beacons:
Unlike in “Lesser Space”, where star systems form economies and coalitions spanning tens of thousands of cubic lightyears, often advertised as “Galactic” in scope, the space-farring cultures of the Unknown Regions, or as its inhabitants aptly put it, “The Chaos” are usually a lot smaller in scope of area and influence. This is because in order to navigate the ever-changing hyperspace hazards safely, they are forced to rely on Force-capable navigators. Most cultures use the Pathfinders or similar navigational guilds, comprised of Force-Sensitive adults who choose to hire out their ability to navigate. Most only use their ability to communicate with the Force (Great Presence, Third Sight, etc.) strictly as navigators, with no training or interest in the further abilities demonstrated by the Jedi, Sith, and other Force-using groups of Lesser Space. However, there are notable downsides to the use of essentially mercenary navigators:
Rarity. Force users comprise of a tiny minority of any given population. Navigators are correspondingly rare, and thus can be quite expensive to hire, and may not be available on short notice.
Security. Despite most navigator guilds’ guarantees of client confidentiality, many cultures do NOT wish to use hired navigators for military or otherwise sensitive missions, preferring to use their own loyal people, who, because of the rarity of Force users, may not be available.
For the Chiss Ascendency especially, where the ability to sense hazards through “Third Sight” is limited to only a tiny number of pre-pubescent female children, (known as “sky-walkers”) this is a severe strategic weakness, and that is before addressing the ethical problems with the sky-walker program. The girls are taken from their families, with their memories erased, and used as child labour aboard Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet ships, usually only being allowed to interact with their assigned caretakers, who are often far from nurturing. The Chiss are well aware of how terrible the program is, which is why it was kept secret from the general public, with only CEDF bridge officers, high-ranking members of the Syndicure, and the perpetrators of the program even aware of its existence (officially speaking, at least). There has only been one known instance of a sky-walker keeping her abilities past early mid-age, which suggests the children are overworked to the point of burn-out.
Despite “improvements” said to be made to the system in recent years, the children are still often abused, isolated, and not given the time for a proper education nor for social development. It is still essentially child slave labour, completely against the “light of civilisation in the Chaos” that the Chiss Ascendency portrays itself as.
As stated earlier, a huge advantage of the Hyperspace Beacon Network, especially in the Unknown Regions/the Chaos, is that it allows navigation through that chaotic third of the Galaxy without relying on Force Users, or any kind. The Empire of the Hand’s ships, from Explorers to Navel vessels, down to civilian transports, do NOT have to hire expensive, liable navigators nor rely on literal child slaves.
During a diplomatic visit to the Chiss Ascendency, the Empire of the Hand’s chief diplomat and Heir to the Empire, Princess Mitth’andor’randeth – Andorra – offered to outright give the Chiss Ascendency hyperspace beacon technology, saying, in a public forum, that by setting up their own beacon network (which does not even need to be connected to the Empire of the Hand’s), they could finally eliminate the need for the sky-walker program. Princess Andorra claims had been unaware that the program was secret when she exposed it to the Ascendency publicly.
Princess Andorra, the Heir to the Empire of the Hand, daughter of Grand Admiral Thrawn and Empress Xelarra
The Ascendency declined at the time, but due to the political ramifications of Princess Andorra’s revelation, the Empire of the Hand is confident that they will eventually change their position.
In the meantime, the Empire of the Hand offers refugee status to any sky-walker, would-be sky-walker and their families or caretakers who manage to seek refuge with Empire of the Hand forces. Once on Nirauan or another long-standing Hand world, they are granted the same educational opportunities as any other child, and are given a special gift from the Empress herself, a comforting and low-maintenance pet ysalamir.

I noticed that you're diving into Batman comics recently, and I decided to ask you: do you think that Batman's relationship with his Robins is his "redemption" story? I mean, even though this wasn't the case when Dick was first introduced, the modern Robins are very much pulling the Dark Knight out of the shadows. It's not the same as Luke Skywalker unmasking Darth Vader in Episode VI, but it's kinda the same situation - they're causing Bruce Wayne to wake up under the Batman mask...
Ask a dozen different comics writers, all who are just as foundational/not foundational as each other because there's no singular creator here, and you'll get a dozen different answers to this question, but! I would say that, yes, Batman's relationship with Robins is a "you saved me from the dark" story--not that Bruce needs a redemption in the same way a villain does, but he does need pulling back from the light. Modern versions of the first Robin almost always come back to this--Dick Grayson brought light and laughter to Wayne Manor, that Bruce was in a dark place and Dick brought him out of those shadows:
(Robin: Year One + Detective Comics #1000) That when he starts wandering back into the dark, Robin is there to go, "Nah, that's bullshit." It's not always necessarily something that Bruce easily accepts, sometimes he feels guilty about what that cost Dick, to be that for him--though, Dick usually points out that he chooses what he wants to do and that he gained so much when Bruce saved him, just as much as he gave back to Bruce. It's not just when he was a kid, but even as an adult, Dick is still the one that most often does so as an adult--where sometimes he does have to back off that, because Bruce relies on him so heavily for it (and then winds up calling Bruce to talk to him about it anyway 😂) and Dick often just naturally steps into that role, like in the recent Gotham War storyline. That's how deeply embedded the theme is in their dynamic--that it's not just that Dick pulls him out of the dark, it's such a common occurrence that sometimes the question has to be asked, "Does this have a cost on Dick, to be the light to Bruce's darkness?"
(Batman: Urban Legends, "The Murder Club") Because that often is the role Dick plays in Batman's life--he's not the only one that Bruce trusts with this, he has a whole roster of friends (he's brightened by his friendship with Clark, for example, or Alfred emotionally supports him constantly and helps stabilize him), but if you have to pick one heart of the family, of Bruce's family, it's absolutely Dick Grayson:
(Batman: Urban Legends, "The Murder Club") To the point, that when others can't do it, they call in Dick to be the Bruce Whisperer like Tim did in that Urban Legends story or like Alfred does when Bruce is spiraling over Damian's death:
("Robin Rises") But honestly, it's true of all of them:
(Batman 2016) I'm focusing most on Dick here because a) that's the majority of what I've read since I came back to comics and b) because he does tend to be the one that falls into that role the most often, but all of the Robins generally are there to remind Bruce to be a better person, all of his friendships with the other superheroes like Clark and Diana and Barry are there to help him be a better person:
(Batman: Knight Terrors) While they're all inextricably tied to their costumed identities, these are people who keep him grounded as Bruce Wayne rather than stripping him down to just Batman, they're the ones who remind him that they're not just soldiers in a war, they're his sons, they're family, and he doesn't keep them around because he needs fighters, he keeps them around because he loves them. That, while it's rarely commented on directly, it is woven into the themes of Batman that his character arc is: he lost his parents, he lost the stability that family would give him, but he gained a son, he grew to accept people into his heart again, to love them, to grow into a better person for them, to come out of the dark for them, to not let what happened to his parents happen to his son:
(Nightwing 2016 #84) There's a ton more examples that I can't overload this post with (and also I'm still catching up) but, yeah, it's very, very much a theme with many authors that the Robins bring Batman out of the dark, they're his salvation, they're the healing of a little boy who lost his parents growing up and healing through taking in children of his own. Children teach you how to love, they teach you compassion, they make you a better person. In that, the story of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker is very much a sibling theme to Batman and the Robins.

My thoughts keep coming back to a Clone Wars army swap au. This is partly because I've started reading through the old Legends books, and the pre-Phantom Menace ones pretty obviously assumed that the Clone Wars were fought against clones.
Setup is simple enough. The Geonosians and Kaminoans are basically the same kind of shady weapons merchants, so here they just close their deals with different sides. Lama Su ends up on the Separatist Council while Poggle buys himself a seat in the Senate. They're flying different flags but are the same sketchy sorts as always.
On the Republic side, the views towards droids are the same as in canon -- nobody really thinks of them as, you know, people. There’s a clear trend in canon of most people treating droids as disposable, replaceable objects when they're pretty obviously self-aware and emotionally complex beings, and this is magnified for the battle models meant to be sent into battle to die in droves.
Anakin is one of the very few people who doesn’t share this attitude and treats droids like sapient beings. This leads to a lot of butting heads with both Republic leadership and other Jedi -- think of his arguments with Obi-Wan over R2 in the arc where R2 goes missing and everyone is like "oh, just get another one", but as a semi-constant dynamic.
The droids respond very positively to him and his assigned division tends to display a lot more intelligence and tactical acumen than normal, and also a bunch more personality quirks. This is in large part because he absolutely refuses to ever reset their memories, which is another major source of arguments.
("Anakin, when was the last you reset the droids' memory banks?" "Why the hell would I want to do that? I might as well just order in a fresh batch of rookies every month." "Anakin, without memory wipes droids develop idiosyncrasies and behavioral glitches, which leads to unreliable performance. You know that." "Oh, sure, because there’s no such thing as Jedi with weird quirks or hangups, huh?")
Occasionally other Jedi have taken temporary command of Anakin's droids, and they do tend to perform a lot better than normal. Although they also tend to do this with a background of sullen muttering of things like "General Skywalker would have asked me how my day was going..."
On the Separatist side, the clones get treated just as badly as the droids do in canon, except that this is absolutely not played for laughs. Their nicknames need to be kept secret, and their leaders all treat them as casually disposable. They’re also fed a steady stream of propaganda about the terrible things that Jedi and Republic forces will do to captured clones, basically painting their alternatives as so bad that even their terrible treatment under the Confederacy is preferable.
As a result, clone forces fight to the death and refuse to surrender out of fear of what will happen if they do. Of course, this also ends up painting an image of them as mindless war machines on the Republic side, which is entirely what the Confederacy was hoping would happen.
Anyway, some way or another some clones end up captured anyway, probably a good way into the conflict. They're expecting torture or immediate execution by the terrible Jedi that they've heard horror stories about, so imagine their surprise when they're... treated civilly. Oh, they're prisoners of war, in cells, and with their weapons confiscated -- but the cells are clean and roomy, the food is decent and if it's bland it's no blander than what the Jedi's eating.
This is about where clear ideas start to peter out except that eventually this would lead to a clone uprising or defection of some sort. They would still be subject to a very negative perception in the Republic that would only worsen under the Empire, which in this case would likely to continue to use battle droids over drafted soldiers, and most likely would need to go to ground under fake identities or try to find a remote planet to live on. It would be interesting to have some of them side with the Rebellion anyway -- I always felt that the canon could've used a more explicit presence of Confenderacy holdouts and survivors among the Rebels, perhaps even seeing themselves as still fighting on basically the same side as always.

My Star Wars Fanfic Recommendations: Part Three
Part One | Part Two | Part Three
walk by faith/tell no one what you’ve seen - After the end of the war with the Empire, Obi-Wan wakes up in his twelve-year old body. Now all he needs to do is convince everyone he's psychic, trick his Master into taking him on before he's sent to Bandomeer, redeem a few bad guys, and try not to have a nervous breakdown. Pretty easy. It's not like the Sith are lurking on the horizon, waiting to devour the Jedi Order.
and the world tilts upon its axis - “You never told us.” Anakin’s words pierce directly into Ahsoka’s heart; she can’t imagine what they do to his master. That stricken feeling flits through the Force again before Obi-Wan can wrangle it again. At least it gets Anakin to look up. He looks torn, agonized, pained, but repeats, unsteady, “You never told us.” “The past is not an easy thing for me to speak of.”
Teach the Padawan - The man that was once Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, GAR General, knew that his death was finally here. Just as he was struck down he made a wish. As he disappeared from the mortal plane, he didn’t realize the Force had been listening. When he opened his eyes, with a younger body and in a time long past, it was apparent that the Force took a somewhat creative interpretation of his last thoughts. However, the man that was once Crazy Old Ben, Wizard of the Wastes, wasn’t going to squander this second chance. After all, he had a padawan to teach and the galaxy to save.
so old they were, and wise - Obi-Wan's arm had tightened around him to the point of squeezing. He felt sick swoops of nausea. "Anakin," he said urgently. "I don't care what the circumstances are or who you're with, if anyone tries to bring you to the Chancellor, stars forbid leave you alone with him, do not allow it. Do whatever is necessary - cry, scream, fight, use the Force, run - run to find me. Stay away from Chancellor Palpatine. Do you understand, young one?" Wide-eyed, Anakin nodded.
stars sing my name, scars tell my story - Anakin wasn’t sure how to ask, so he didn't. Instead, he waited until Master Kenobi fell asleep and stayed up to tinker in the dark, building his own scanner out of parts stolen from the trash. The chip was in his right thigh.
The Legend of Liob - The Republic sends a combat photographer to be attached to the 212th until further notice, citing the need for a morale boost. The clones make up a fake clone, citing the absolute fact that it is very funny. Somehow, these two things save the galaxy.
Care What It Cost - Five years after Naboo, Obi-Wan becomes aware that things between Anakin and Qui-Gon have become... tense. The obvious solution is to mediate their difficulties if at all possible. That is not what happens.
In all your wanderings - Passion, yet serenity. Shmi leaves Tatooine with Anakin and goes to the Jedi Temple.
Gra’pa - The tyrannical Empire is thriving, the young Rebellion is striving. Exhausted, Obi-Wan Kenobi needs a Hug, and gets two, not one, from his favorite set of twins in the entire universe.
Obi-Wan Declares Himself Dad Shaped - “Hello, there!” the probably-Jedi sumbitch says, completely ignoring the fact that he’s in cuffs, and being paraded in with great suspicion by a squad of six. He sounds more like he’s some politician asking for directions in a palace. ”I’m afraid we appear to have had something of a misunderstanding. I don’t suppose there’s someone I could speak with to get this straightened out?”
everything I have ever learned- Skywalker, the deep hollow voice of the desert says, echoing like a heartbeat in his bones. Do you know what your name means?
Hope and Ekkreth - how Anakin may not have been able to free the slaves on Tatooine, but he could do this. He could do this.
If You Ever Come Back - After Obi-Wan Kenobi's return from Melida/Daan, it is discovered that the Jedi Council and Qui-Gon Jinn have very different definitions of the word probation.
What Have We Become - One of Feemor's greatest regrets, was that he never had the chance to get to know his brother-padawan, but the Force is willing to give him one more chance. And maybe, if he's lucky, he can finally make amends with his former master and save them all in the process.
there you are (you’re there with open arms) - "You're alive," Ahsoka cries. And he's holding her head with one hand, pressing her head into the crook of his neck. "I'm here, dear one," Obi-Wan whispers. And she can't believe that Obi-Wan is here. And he is alive and breathing and he is holding her. "I'm here."

SSTW Ask:
I’m not sure if you’ve ever thought about this, but if you have it would mean the world to me if you told me about whatever you have thought about, even if it’s just tiny snippets.
Basically, I’m curious about the younger Kryzes and if they ever choose to get married (if they weren’t already in a relationship) and have kids. By “younger Kyrzes” I mean Korkie, Ahsoka, Lily, Avi, Eli, and Edi, as well as the Skywalker children, and of course special mention goes to Sabine and Tristan.
If they ever have kids, how many do each of them have? What are their genders? What about their names? Do any of them marry a different species and have hybrid children? What about adoption?
If you’ve thought this far ahead, what are the kids like, that is, their personality?
BTW it’s totally okay if you’ve never thought about this and have no answers, but if you do I’d absolutely LOVE to hear your thoughts.
Thanks in advance! You’re the greatest.
Oh wow! These are great questions. I know some of this, but not all of it, and I am happy to share because I don't know/highly doubt I will ever write this far into the family's future (save one story, which I will point out when I get to it).
Korkie and Aled get married at the end of MTB (last chapter....it's glossed over, but that's why the whole family is there). They will eventually adopt a child, probably a little girl (why I get Cam and Mitch vibes from Modern Family, I will never know).
Ahsoka has always ready pretty ace to me in canon (her weird jealousy over Lux and Steela Gerrera in the Onderon arc of TCW felt very forced and I have beef with EKJ about....well, TONS of things, but she doesn't even read her own writing well...the interactions between Ahsoka- wait. You know what. This isn't the place to rant about EKJ). ANYWAY, my Ahsoka is ace and aromantic and goes on to live a very happy life helping the galaxy through the RHI and other means.
Lily has yet to tell me what she wants in this department. I have a little storyline in my head about her meeting someone, but it hasn't really formed into anything meaningful yet.
Avi definitely gets married. To a boy from Alderaan that she meets at uni on Coruscant. He has no idea she's royalty for a good while, and is far more excited that she's cousins with the famous singer, Eli Kryze.
Edi and Eli I don't know yet.
The twins, well, I have a whole scenario that gets Han, Luke, and Leia meeting up, so Leia and Han will marry (this is the story I want to write, because the idea of Han marrying into this clan is hysterical to me). Luke will somehow meet Mara Jade as he goes about the galaxy being some sort of lay-Jedi.
Past this generation, I have no real clue! Avi will have children, for sure, and Leia and Han will have some variation of the twins and Anakin Solo from Legends/EU.
But, just know, that in THIS galaxy, they Kryzes are a large and growing and happy clan, unlike in canon *sob*

Missed Me With That
I just watched some chick say she's sad The Acolyte is dead because she liked that sh*t and, instead of dismissing her obviously wrong opinion, i took it serious. I actually thought about that sh*t for a second and ignored the fact everything about that show is bad. It dawned on me that there has to be a certain amount of people who DID enjoy that flaming bag of ssh*t somehow. Pardon my geek, because i got some sh*t to say about all of that. The most egregious thing to me about Disney Star Wars is, aside from writing good scripts, was all of this bullsh*t could have been avoided. All of it. Just set your trilogy outside the Skywalker saga. That's it. Leave what came before alone and make your own sh*t. KOTOR exists. SWTOR exists. Cade Skywalker exists. Darth Bane exists, both in canon and Legends. F*cking create something new. Why did this specific story, or any of them really, absolutely HAVE to be Skywalker adjacent?It's almost as if someone has a four and a half year long grudge against Lucas or something, and is doing everything in her power to destroy what he created in order to steal that valor for herself. Wait... The Acolyte got canceled Normies didn't watch it. That vocal minority everyone keeps trying to pin this on definitely exists, but there aren't enough of them to actually sway the numbers like that. Regular folks who think space wizards and laser swords are cool, watch three episodes of that trash and bailed because it was bad. Fans bailed because the show is disrespectful to a damn near fifty year history. Bigots with pinky dicks bailed because of all the "Woke" agenda sh*t. I bailed because, during a murder investigation, the Jedi didn't even check the f*cking cameras on that goddamn space frigate! They're cops! That's investigation 101! Your show can be as stupid and gay and opinionated as you want. Tying it to characters that have GENERATIONAL fan bases, that's been in the pop culture zeitgeist for almost half a century, is f*cking questionable. To commit to that, while pushing so much transparent animosity for the fans who made that franchise big enough for you to even have this opportunity, and to execute that vitriol with all the subtlety of a riot brick through a window, is the dumbest sh*t, ever. To do so poorly, with sh*tty scripts, paper thin characters, and a plot that doesn't make any f*cking sense, is basically suicide. You get what you f*cking deserve. It's a shame really. I've said, pretty consistently, that there was potential in The Acolyte. The concept was strong but the wrong people were in charge of bringing that idea to life. It could have been a brand new era to explore, something Kennedy could do whatever the f*ck she wanted with, outside of what Lucas built, but nope! Lesbian Space Witches created the method Plaugueis used to make Vader. Only after they created Osha, who is a superior specimen of a Force Vergence. Because b*tches get sh*t done. Set all of this nonsense just after the Jedi became a thing, and you're good to go. The Stranger can legit be the "first" Sith. Osha can be the first of many Vergences. This Jedi council can fall by the wayside, a grim reminder of their hubris, long forgotten by the Clone Wars. Right there, The Acolyte has a chance. No one is comparing it to the Skywalker saga. It's a blank slate for you to run wild with whatever messaging you want to Force down people's throats. It's not going to ruin Disney's Quarter. Fans have something new, Normies can see another side of the overall universe, Neckbeards can go f*ck themselves with their needle dicks, and i, hopefully, can get a Jedi Knight smart enough to check the goddamn cameras!

Hey, what was your favorite things about Skyward Sword? (btw I am playing through it rn and i have BIRBBRAIN, i am getting the seed for the Thunder Dragon lol)
Also, if you named your (link's) loftwing what did you name it?
(Mine is named Harp <3)
Harp aaahhhh I love that!! AND YAY YOU ARE PLAYING SKYWARD SWORD YES BEST ZELDA GAME EVER
SKSW LINK MY BABYYYYY
I actually never gave mine a name but I go with the general HC that Link calls him Crimson. I also made my own HC that Groose teased Link for the name and so to spite him, Zelda named hers Indigo. I also once saw a HC that Link named his Apple and I think that is absolutely adorable. But anyway, I usually just called mine Baby but I never really named him. I wish we had the option to do so in the game like with Epona in TP!! (I named her Peanut)
Now to the big question: my favorite things about Skyward Sword!! Eek so many, I’ll limit it to a few:
Skye’s/Lofty’s List of What is Awesome about Skyward Sword
The art style! The pastel colors are so pretty, the visuals are just so pleasing to the eyes, and they really pop in places like the ancient cistern or Faron woods when it’s flooded or Skyloft.
LINK. MY. BABY. He is just the sweetest iteration, and he was my third Link if ever met after BotW Link and OoT Link so he was definitely the most expressive. I think I fell in love with him as soon as he did that ADORABLE head tilt while reading Zelda’s letter akfucsjehgixhwufoc I JUST LOVE HIM SO MUCH. I was laughing SO HARD when everyone kept saying they were surprised he was awake like breakfast wasn’t even being served anymore this kid straight up sleeps until noon probably and it just made me think of me and every family trip we ever took that my family would bring me the hotel breakfast to the room because I’d sleep through breakfast and wake up at like 11 and I instantly related to him. Between that, his dry wit, his daydreaming nature, I literally was just checking boxes in how many ways I saw myself in him, and his relationship with Zelda is adorable and he lives in the sky with GIANT BIRDIES I love everything about this boy. Also that he came from a happy life with a support system because I’ve seen so many stories where the Hero has a Tragic Backstory (and I ain’t against those, Anakin Skywalker is my favorite Star Wars character and his backstory is definitely tragic and angsty lol), and I was blessed with a happy childhood and a family that loves me so I liked those characters but never really related but now here’s sleepyhead who is a normal zoned out kid like I was at his age who gets thrown into this insanity and just YES. Love him. Love love love him.
The music!! Skyward Sword sounds like it’s fully orchestrated and it’s just so pretty. Definitely my favorite rendition of both Zelda’s Lullaby and Fairy Fountain. It’s so whimsical and magical, the music really elevates this game. Koloktos theme!! Bamboo island!! Island in the Sky!! Faron Woods!! Fi!! So many great themes.
THE LORE! I made a whole post about this alone. The story is the mythology of Legend of Zelda and I absolutely adore that.
THE FACT THAT THEY LIVE IN THE SKY WITH BIRDIES
#I think I’ll stop there or I might find other things to fangirl over#I hope you’re having fun with the game!!#you ask Skye answers#lovely indigoartistqueen#skyward sword

So like quick question sorry:why do we hate ki-adi-mundi? I know he looks funny n all but I’m genuinely curious
His vibes are rancid. Lmao im just joking, but also not really.
His vibes have always been 100% off to me and I could never really place it aside from bad man is rancid, but if you're prepared to strap your boots in and be here for the long haul here's a more detailed explanation:
Right off the bat, I can tell you without a doubt that Mundi committed war crimes on screen.
Yes, there were a number of atrocities committed throughout the Clone Wars— child soldiers, torture, slavery, attempting to destroy medical facilities, perfidy (multiple times over, thanks to Obi Wan), faking being a noncombatant (padme), multiple accounts of genocide, etc.— but where other Jedi have 'redeemable' traits to back them up, I personally don't believe that Ki Adi Mundi does.
(More below)
And most of the war crimes committed by Jedi— barring Child Soldiers— are not of a violent nature. Deceptive and somewhat morally incorrect? Absolutely. And the Clones are another can of worms entirely, but Mundi?
Well. During the second battle of Geonosis, Ki Adi and his clones willingly blowtorch civilians and non-combatants. According to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons or CCW/CCWC, you can only use flamethrowers on heavy machinery (like tanks) and to clear away terrain.
Protocol III on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Incendiary Weapons prohibits, in all circumstances, making [...] civilians or civilian objects, the object of attack by any weapon [...] designed to set fire [...] or to cause burn injury to persons through the action of flame, heat or a combination thereof, [...] Forest and other plants may not be a target unless they are used to conceal combatants or other military objectives.
On top of that, Mundi appears to lack empathy.
yes, Jedi are well aware and try not to cling to their emotions, but we see time and time again that there is a dividing line between not allowing emotions to control you and not feeling any empathy at all. Many Jedi do feel and display empathy, they might not say words that state as such, but their tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, and so on display this.
Mundi on the other hand?
Almost nothing.
In legends, when his entire family was murdered during the Clone Wars, pretty much just he just went "well that's the will of the Force" and moved on (yes, there's more to it and people will state that he 'overcame the darkness' but come on, we see like none of that).
He's one of the few Jedi we see who was in contact with and had a blood family, some of the others being Nico Diath and Plo Koon and while we don't see Nico Diath as much, we can assume that if Sha had been murdered, Plo wouldn't have been so flippant (as we see Plo showing empathy and love multiple times, and on the inverse, the bond he had with Sha was so strong that it sent Sha into a pain induced blackout when he died)
You'd think that there would be more of a reaction or maybe a moment to see him grieve in private over the death of his sister, five wives, and multiple daughters (and maybe sons) but nope.
As an added bonus, when Anakin Skywalker went to Ki-Adi Mundi about the death of his mother he basically just told him to get over it.
In the 03 Clone Wars, the Muunilist 10 rescues him at Hypori and push Grievous back. instead of taking this as a chance to retreat, Mundi wants to pursue General Grievous, despite the fact that he just saw the guy mow down a number of other Jedi, had him on the ropes, and took out three of the M10. All while Aalya and Shaak Ti were in critical condition. Sure, he might not have known that last part, but Mundi himself was in no shape to fight Grievous, and the M10, while cool and badass as they are, they are not Jedi and Grievous took them out faster than he took the Jedi down.
(in TCW it would've been different but 03 was Jedi Centric)
I digress.
There are a lot of other reasons why, you can find all sorts of discussions online, but these are basically my main reasons.
ALSO HIS VIBES ARE STILL RANCID

Btw I only got sucked into the prequels fandom a couple months ago, and I was super fortunate to have found your blog rather early on... It meant I quickly realized I had some misconceptions and internalized weirdness from just western / Christian society and growing up on Legend's New Jedi Order stuff. (It's not that I ever disliked the Jedi, but I definitely didn't understand the difference between love and attachment and was otherwise mostly apathetic about them as a Culture... If they weren't Mara Jade, Jaina Solo, Corran Horn, or Luke Skywalker, I didn't particularly care about them at all).
Anyway my point is that I'm super thankful your blog came up soon because I am now very firmly in the Pro Jedi camp and am glad I only got a minimal amount of sw fandom toxicity about the Jedi before having my eyes gently opened to reality.
Best part is tho, I had a friend ask me a week ago for some star wars information. Her brother apparently was assigned to write about the differences between the Jedi, Grey Jedi, and Sith in a class about differing religions and ideologies (which... In and of itself is actually a rather fascinating concept for a school paper). Anyway I had fun linking a whole bunch of your meta posts and going "Respect the Jedi, they're absolutely wonderful! Grey Jedi aren't actually a thing - it's just video game mechanics and misconceptions! Sith are evil and if you write them as anything but I will hard-core raise eyebrows at you and want to throw hands!!" And such... Probably went more than a little overboard but she was appreciative.
My point in all this word vomit (dang my adhd is really prevalent rn isn't it) is that I wanted to offer some encouragement because I've learned the pro Jedi camp is a lot smaller than it should be and maybe sometimes feels like it's the same 20 people on tumblr? Your collective efforts as the Jedi Defense Squad are successful and I know that, personally, my life will forever be changed for the better. Bless y'all and keep fighting the good fight!
You didn’t even know it was my birthday yesterday and yet you sent me once of the nicest things I could get despite that! I admit that the pro-Jedi corner of fandom feels very small sometimes, especially because Tumblr is generally the only place where we’ve gotten together (COME HELP ME LOVE THE JEDI ON TWITTER, YOU GUYS, I NEED PEOPLE TO HAVE SILLY LOVE BOMB FESTS WITH), that sometimes it can feel very overwhelming the second I step one inch off my dash, but also I wouldn’t trade this corner for anything. I hope that I can not just explain why I love the Jedi and why I see them as being perfectly in balance with the core themes of Star Wars, but that I can help make being a pro-Jedi fan a fun experience. I hope I can make meta about them interesting, jokes about them fun to play with, the pain of their slaughter and the genocide of their culture dig into our feelings the way the best of Star Wars does. If I can help kindle love for the Jedi in you (and I am certain I did not do so alone, there are so many really incredible people, every time I get to reblog Jedi content from more than a dozen people now I get this shimmer of joy in my soul, I didn’t always have that! I get to reblog art and fic and essays! people have such good thoughts and incredible ways with words! they’re coming up with adorable skits and AU scenarios! so many in this fandom work so hard to give us these delightful things and I am so overjoyed to get to reblog them), then I have passed on what was given to me and that makes it worth it. I am further delighted to help provide framework for writing papers about the Jedi, because one of the things that surprised me when I first started really digging into those Lucas interviews and behind the scenes/making of books is: Yeah, Star Wars is often silly, but it has themes and George Lucas stuck to them. He thought about his mythology and what messages he wanted to convey, and whatever things he tweaked along the way, the core themes have always remained consistent. Star Wars is often imperfect, no creator is ever going to be perfect, but Lucas knew he wanted to tell a story about letting go and about good vs evil and choosing the light made the world work better and that we should care about each other and our communities, not just break the rules and do whatever we felt like, that you’re supposed to love people but you have to accept that life is impermanent, because you’ll suffer if you try to hold on too tightly. And everything of his Star Wars stuck to those themes and I really, really like those themes. My life has been made better by getting to know the story of Star Wars and getting to meet so many kind, thoughtful fans and getting messages like this, and so please know that this is incredibly uplifting and encouraging. To be able to spark joy in someone else about these silly space psychic wizards, to be able to share that, it makes the whole Being A Fan Of A Thing a great experience.

Fairytale AU when Finn helping his friend Rey to save prince poe from dragon Kylo Ren but Poe falls with his saviour Finn and twist when Rey find Kylo's human form is hot
I’m gonna say straight up I do not ship Reylo and I have my reasons for it so I won’t expand on that idea but I will leave it ambiguous.
However I absolutely love the concept of a fairytale AU my friend @dhyanshiva and I were planning on something very similar though a little more avant-garde with the whole concept of what will the legends of the sequel trilogy look to people say a million years in the future and how things change through retellings.
I’ll put up the link for it when we update so keep an eye out for that.
I’m not to sure what to do with this ask but I decided to write a small extract. But I got a little carried away so you can read the rest here on ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/40300113
It's slightly unedited so here goes nothing:
A long time ago in a kingdom far far away there was Prince, who they say, was the most daring warrior and renowned horseman of his time. They say many things of him, that the blood in his veins is threefold fire, wind and lightning. They say his heart still beats in time with the embers of his burnt inheritance.
And one could almost believe it to be true.
He was Poe Dameron heir to the kingdom of Yavin, a prince that will never be king. A scion of kings and queens, from a kingdom now reduced to ash.
After Yavin was lost to him, he was taken in by the Queen Leia Organa of Alderaan, she raised him alongside her own son, Ben Solo-Organa. The two were like brothers, in every sense of the word.
Yet as the powers rose in the East, in Exegol, and Kingdom once belonging to the Palpatine's, the wars came in quick succession. It was during these wars that the Prince, Ben Solo, was lost to them, and with him the Queen’s brother Luke Skywalker. In the years after, the kingdom of Exegol rose to prominence, with a ferocious army headed by General Hux, known as the First Order. There were whispers too, as flagrant as the smell of smoke and just as evasive, that a sorcerer known as Snoke, had taken the throne of the Exegol, and under his command was a dragon known as Kylo Ren.
And as any brother and warrior would, Poe Dameron took up his arms and his chestnut horse, affectionately named Barbarous the 8th and set off in search for them both.
He never returned.
Years passed and no one has seen him since.
And for a while, all hope it seemed was lost.
That was until a soldier of the First Order, by the name of Finn, unbeknownst, acquired Prince Poe’s horse and escape Exegol.
On the way, he crossed paths with a warrior by the name of Rey, an orphan, daughter of the desert, who searches for a past long lost to her.
Some say such meetings are written in the stars, others say they are etched in stone, some higher power, some force has orchestrated the melody universe for this one meeting. No matter where they a written, no matter how they come to be, all agree that such things are too great to be mere coincidence.
~~~
Finn cursed as he swapped the comfortable armour he had acquired from Barbarous the 8th, a gift from the horse's previous owner, for the familiar constrictive one that belonged to one of the Knights of Ren, the soldiers who worshipped the dragon by the same name.
When Finn had escaped from the Kingdom of Exegol, when he had escaped from the First Order he had thought he would never see it again, the armour. In fact, he had vowed he never would. He would run so far from Exegol, from the First Order, from Hux, from Phasma, from everything and everything, that it would all become but a wisp of a memory. A small haunt at the back of his mind that he need not pay heed to.
Yet here he was, stealing the dreaded armour from the unconscious Knight of Ren that Han Solo had hit across the head with the hilt of his sword, here he was, putting on that armour. And Finn hated it, he hated everything about it, the black metal gleaming in the dying torchlight, the red veins glittering with it, he hated most of all the dragon, Kylo Ren, emblazoned on the chest piece, glaring back at him.
“I hope this Yavinese Prince is worth all this,” he muttered under his breath.
He had thought no one would hear him, but it seemed he was a fool in this regard too. Han turned to him with bright eyes and a sly grin.
“What? A hundred thousand credits, not enough for you now?”
Finn did not answer him, but it was true, as of now the reward of a hundred thousand credits seemed less and less appealing as more of the armour fell into place on his body.
No reward is worth this. A part of him screamed against the weight of the armour. No reward is ever worth the scars reopened, bloodied, raw and vulnerable. No reward is worth this kind of pain.
And yet…
He remembered Queen Leia of Alderaan sitting on her gilded throne, as he, Rey and Han had volunteered to retrieve Prince Poe.
I think I know where he may be. He had told her. There is a castle in Exegol, I heard General Hux say a Prince of Yavin was imprisoned there. I know how to get there. I think we can save him.
Are you certain? She had asked.
I wouldn’t be here if I was.
She had breathed in, half gasp, half relieved, all supplication as if all her prayers had been answered and at that moment, there was a glimmer in her eyes. Something that Finn had not realised had been there before.
Hope.
Finn could see it all so clearly then.
Leia had lost everything, that was no secret. Her parents when she but nineteen, decades later her son Ben and her brother Luke Skywalker. Her ward Poe Dameron who had been like a second son. Then in her time of grief, she had lost her husband too, or perhaps it was more accurate to say they had lost each other. Leia stayed to rule her people, Han fought mercenaries as they used to before he had become King consort. Neither meeting the other for years, unable to look each other in the eyes.
And yet in all that time the warmth in her sad brown eyes never waned, her heart of gold beat still, her spine of steel, the way she commanded a room, took up every inch of space, filling it with comfort and hope, it was all still there. She was the mourner, the commander the protector. The mother, the general, and the queen all in one.
He remembered thinking then, I could die for you. And the mere remembrance of it made the thought of the reward of credits pale. The weight of the armour lightened on Finn’s shoulders. The pain of his past seemed insignificant compared to the pain she endured, though he knew Leia would say otherwise.
“I guess it doesn’t matter,” found himself saying to Han. “This Poe Dameron means a lot to the queen.”
And yet there was more. He means a lot to me.
When he had taken Barborous the 8th and had escaped from Exegol, he had nothing, no clothes, save the stark white tunic and trousers of the Storm Squadron, no food, not water. He did not even have a name. Poe Dameron’s belongings, his clothes, his armour, his rations had saved him. They were the first things he had been able to call his own.
And as for his name?
In his saddlebag, Poe had kept a small book of Legends from Yavin, a book that Finn had read every night since his escape as if it were scripture. And within those pages, within the tales of princesses, princes, kings, queens, knights and dragons, he had found a name.
Finn.
After the hero and Knight, Finn Galfridian, who had rescued Princess Jaina Solo, from a tower guarded by a dragon. Somehow it seemed that by choosing that name he had carved a path for himself, following in the footsteps of the knight long dead. Because here he was, like Finn Galfridian, at the foot of an impregnable castle, rescuing royalty from a tower guarded by a dragon.
Finn.
He hadn’t even met the man, this Prince of Yavin, this Poe Dameron and yet, he had already given Finn so much.
Han gave him a quizzical look but before the older man could say anything Rey came towards them, brandishing her sword, her eyes hazel eyes, usually ablaze, grave and utterly grim.
“You ready?” She asked.
Finn nodded.
Sorry, there are people think Maul is coded as WHITE? Granted, I'm not a fan of the idea of being "coded" as any race, or being coded in general, but if anyone insisted on doing it, why would they think that Maul, a Nightbrother, a member of a species that's commonly enslaved, is coded as white of all things? Like?
I generally listen to the voices of fans of color, myself. Obviously not everyone agrees on every issue, regardless of race or background, but in the case of Maul not being coded white, I'm following the lead of @diversity-instarwars, who pointed out in detail why they felt that way. And it makes sense. When you stop and look and listen, it makes sense.
Like, for example, Anakin and Maul were both born slaves. But only one of the two of them can be identified as such by the literal color of his skin. Which happened, in the 2017 Darth Maul series: Maul being identified a Nightbrother, not by name or personal recognition, but by the color and markings on his skin. (I have many issues with the writing, but both canon and Legends acknowledge that Nightbrothers aren't born free. That they are literally slaves to the Nightsisters.) Whereas Anakin Skywalker, walking down the road, looks like any other human being; you only know he's a slave if he tells you.
A lot of people who try to troll me or anyone else with this POV do so by initially making the argument that he is white because Ray Park is white. Or that because Sam Witwer is white, that makes Maul white. That argument only holds water until you realize that Darth Vader's voiced by a black man. That Ahsoka Tano is voiced by a white woman. That Kallus -- who is white! -- is voiced by a black man. Actor =/= character. And while I absolutely believe that more diverse actors and writers need to be hired, Ray being white does not automatically mean Maul is a white allegory.
Then they whine that he's an alien, so it doesn't count! OBVIOUSLY. Which-- only works until we remember that we are very aware that Watto is an anti-Semitic stereotype. But he's an alien too! If people are able to recognize that, the 'but he's an alien' argument also doesn't hold water.
It basically boils down to: If Maul can be recognized as a marginalized individual by the color of his skin, without any other identifying marks, he's not a white allegory. He is not white-adjacent.
Finally, usually, they whine a lot and try to send me anon hate. Which doesn't work because I just block and laugh at them.
I don't know. I think it makes a certain subset of white people in fandom -- the kinds who coincidentally also make fandom a hostile place for people of color -- very uncomfortable to view Maul as being coded as anything but the same color they are. I could probably go on a whole dissertation about why I think my own demographic acts that way (and why they need to knock it the fuck off), but that's probably a screed for another day.
#maul#meta#salt mines#probably still an unpopular opinion#but this is a case of: don't like it?#there's the door
