Insektober day 3: Patrol!

Lukanus takes advantage of his patrol duty by stealing the Verigreens' tomatoes! There's plenty in the patch so it's not like the Verries will starve, it's just generally dickish behavior. Like he bit into one with his mandibles! Have some consideration for others, man!

Kretinus is unsure about this whole situation-- he trusts Lukanus since he's his boss and his friend but he's not comfortable with stealing. He supposes Lukanus knows better than him, so he goes along with his plan. Tomatoes are pretty tasty, after all. Kretinus doesn't get to eat them very often in day to day life in Krud City since they don't cultivate them within the stump.

This is absolutely something Lukanus does repeatedly! For as loyal of a soldier as Lukanus is, he doesn't feel he "deserves" the ascetic rules and restrictions of Krud life and often picks and chooses what to follow and what to ignore. He is absolutely this way about food, and tries to be secretive about indulging in Verigreen flavors (he cannot just ask the Verries for dinner because he thinks it would be traitorous of him to treat them as equals!) so he engages in very pest-like behavior whenever he can.

I'm going to fucking SCREAM why did I post this on my reblogs account lmfao!! UGH I was so out of it last night ffs. No wonder it got no traction!!! (as if my funny bug posts dont get like 2 notes each) Any fucking ways lol.

HUGE headcanon post abt funny bug food since I have been thinking abt it for a while!!

So Krud food is weird because Krud City is barren and the only fresh food sources they have are aquatic vegetation and fish! It's also possible they might have a garden, but it's small and maintained by the commoners (The Insektors Annual 1997 book calls the commoners "common-or-garden Kruds" in Bakrakra's description) so it could be herbs or microgreens? They MIGHT benefit from growing potatoes and wild onions since they're easygoing, so I won't rule out that possibility! Similarly, they may also grow rice since they're surrounded by water, and rice grows well in very wet environments?

So aside from the aforementioned fish, sea greens, and potentially rice and potatoes, most krud food is imported from other places in Yukdom or occasionally Joyceland (they have a bitter grudge obviously but DAMMIT Joyceland fruit is tasty!!) OR Kruds can just go into Flowered City and steal... but thats pretty shitty lol. Krud hunters like Niff basically never kill the animals they hunt, because they are HUGE compared to the Insektors themselves! It'd be too much of a waste to kill them, so Niff and other hunters merely use blades to cut chunks of flesh from their prey, and it's actually a pretty scary/dangerous job! Similarly, Kruds do eat eggs, but I think that'd be RLLY difficult considering they're so tiny in comparison! I think it must be quail eggs or even hummingbird eggs. Hummingbird sounds ridiculous, but it'd be the same size as a full grown Krud so like, I think it's more reasonable. They'd be a pain to harvest though, maybe ants collect them since they're the strongest!

A lot of imported food is often dried so it can last longer-- Kruds are very against wasting food (funny considering their horrible carbon footprint LOL) so dried fruit and jerky is consumed more often than their fresh equivalents. This is actually kind of a problem for hemipterans like Makabris, however, since they don't have teeth and can only 'drink' their food. I imagine they are probably used to drinking things that have been powdered and blended. Which is gross, but sometimes being a Krud is less abt living and more abt surviving! Maybe all the time actually lol. They're kind of ascetic. OH YEAH also Kruds know how to pickle and process/grind foods! in the UK dub Wasabi knows what burgers and pickles are so they must exist on a funny bug scale. Which is good since I dont think there's an easier way for the Insektors to eat stuff like grains beyond them being processed into flour, cuz ONCE AGAIN, grains are HUGE compared to them! I was joking abt this on my server cuz even though the Kruds have the right ingredients to make sushi regularly (rice, seaweed, fish) it'd have to be RLLY WEIRD sushi because they're too small to eat individual grains of rice! So it'd have to be made of something more like rice cakes? Their bread may also be more often made of rice flour or potato starch cuz of the whole garden thing I mentioned before, idk if they'd be able to grow the other stuf.

I totally overthought this whole thing LOL. It rlly harkens back to my Crash phase where I'd overthink the CNK aliens! I kind of miss that ngl I'd totally do it again if any of them returned in Crash Team Rumble....... (please)

OH FUCK I FORGOT TO MENTION LUKANUS' DRINK! He is drinking honeydew! It's kind of like drinking cow's milk but weirder (and it has a 'specialness' to it thats kind of like... sparkling cider I guess? Not something you drink all the time.) because it's made by aphids. If you know you know. Its weird to hemipterans and relatives but not weird to most other bugs? Rook's pretty unaffected by it cuz hes a carnivore though so its like. who cares. (Makabris does!! He is SO grossed out rn)

Insektober day 22: Masquerade! (sorry its late)

Queen Bakrakra and General Lukanus at the masquerade ball. Lukanus wishes to dance with the queen but alas, he's a never been much of a dancer and she hasn't moved her legs this much in years.... they'd be a disaster on the dance floor.

So instead Bakrakra will stand and watch her subjects like ants, while Lukanus scours the premises for a certain ant! (FULGOR!)

This piece takes place at the same time as day 7! Same masquerade ball. The whole Masquerade thing is an episode of my rewrite (still a WIP....) and @dnpanimationstudioclone came up w the idea for it! It's meant to go between Koa the Frog and The Reskue, a transitional state between the Kruds being unable to put a face on the Verigreen threat and the Kruds recognizing Fulgor as the main threat of Verigreen resistence (and Aelia, but they don't really take her seriously since they see her as a weak butterfly)

Insektober day 13: Monster(s)!

These characters are all termites! Fightermites even. Left to right they are: Nasuto (nah-SUE-toh), Lord Sisyphus (SISSY-fuss), and Cubit (KYU-bit)! Nasuto and Cubit are soliders and both are blind (fun fact did you know irl termite soldiers and workers are blind? the winged termites that eventually become kings n queens aren't, though). Sisyphus is a termite king (demoted to Lord at Queen Bakrakra's demand) and he's Lady Prometheus' husband!

Sisyphus was meant to be the general and commander of the army of Fightermites, but he realized his wife needed his support, so he abandoned his military duties to better care for her. Bakrakra tolerated this because Lukanus was able to take Sisyphus' position and lead the fightermites, but as a result none of Sisyphus' children respect his command and just think he's a pathetic little guy. There isn't much familial love between the Fightermites since there's hundreds of them and neither of the parents can give them much attention... but Prometheus has a commanding presence and Sisyphus doesn't, so they all listen to her. Prometheus finds it difficult to be personal to her children, but she is at least able to with Cubit and Nasuto since they are her guards and therefore usually by her side.

I am NOT late and I did NOT forget, I was just out of the house all day. I chose to draw Prometheus' henchmen for today's prompt cuz termite soldiers remind me of frankenstein's monster lol. They're like different bugs stitched together into 1!!

today’s prompt was ‘fight’ n I was like “hm I always say Lukanus is like the meta knight of Insektors so wat if I colored him that way lol” so tbh there’s no connection between Rod & Galacta, I just thought it’d be funny/look cool

ok actually since I just posted Sylex, here’s my other fusion design for @emilyrosebug‘s AU lol!! his name is Flysabi. He’s a fusion of. well. Flynn and Wasabi of course lol. His weapons are maracas, since I saw it as a fitting fusion of Wasabi’s mace and Flynn’s guitar. Still a musical instrument, but a more cacophonous one that Wasabi might prefer to use.I RLLY fucking like this design lol, I think he looks badass.

So unlike Sylex, Flysabi is actually kind of based on a real bug; he’s meant to resemble a firefly. His mandibles are derived from Wasabi’s pincers, but placed in such a way that, when looking at his pincers and his chest armor, it almost appears to be a second face. He has a beak, which is a compromise (it’s beastly looking, like Flynn’s doglike snout, but it’s also rigid like Wasabi’s puppetlike mouth). I hope you like him as much as I do, LOL!

daily drawrings for october lol

i have decided to go with my usual informal 1 drawing per day plan like I did last year, but I will ALSO take a stab at a challenge a friend of mine made up: Insektober. Inktober, but it’s Insektors! Here, I’ll link the prompt list in case you’re curious:

the first image features Panacotta Fugo from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure part 5, as well as 2 OCs of mine (who I forgot to introduce before lol)! Bowtie guy’s name is Farfalle Ricci, spikey collar guy’s name is Salata Lucertola. They form a sort of informal team with Fugo (post-Purple Haze Feedback), though they haven’t been accepted into the gang; neither of them have ever met Giorno or Mista. Fugo sees a lot of Narancia in Farfalle, but Farfalle has never heard that name in his entire life, and it seems like no one else around Fugo has either. In Salata’s case, Fugo’s never met anyone like him before. Their stands, although not pictured, are called ‘Pixies’ and ‘Computer World’ respectively.

The second drawing doesn’t have a fancy description lol, it’s just Lukanus making some noise with his weird pipe instrument!! Today’s prompt was ‘Music’.

I dunno if the Insektober drawings will all be colored in, but I do want them all to be traditional art in some capacity, though they might be mixed-media? depends on how I feel day to day tbh lol. My informal daily drawings can be traditional or digital, just whatever I feel like drawing. I’ll try to do Insektober every day, but I may skip a few informal daily drawings if I feel too tired. (that way I will still draw daily if I only draw the Insektober prompt hehe)

some headcanons for how a few of the Kruds look armorless! it’s mostly the rhino beetles, as you can see... Also, I decided to give the Methane bros proper first names. Nothing fancy, Lefty holds his spear in his left hand & Righty holds his in his right hand. That’s how you tell them apart. LOL. Other than that they have different fuzz patterns, because as I’ve just recently learned, rhino beetles can have fuzz under their shells!! 

Lukanus doesn’t have any fuzz, but he does look different without his chest armor doesn’t he? He definitely wears the armor to appear more menacing. Sorry for the cropping on his image, it was either that or he’d take up a whole page bc the image is lanky lmao.

This was the hardest to come up with something for this prompt. But then something pops up, this morning.

As seen on this picture, Draffsack disguise Wasabi as Flynn in an attempt to frame the latter. Will it succeed?
