I love T.K. from digimon. He's my favorite from the original 8 digidestined, and he's so underrated!!! A year or two ago, I had a thought about t.k being genderfluid or at least gender non-conforming because I think that's so interesting. We get to see all of them grow up, and in T.K, I see a lot of unconformity in both his personality and style, and it really got me thinking. Idk where the genderfluid thing came from specifically tho,,,

In 02, he relives a lot of his trauma from devimon, and he kind of switches back and forth between a really nice kid and then a revenge focused fighter, yk? And of course, it's much more than just that, but Iori mentions that he doesn't understand T.K. and the kind of person he is. To me personally, I think that kind of behavior could be translated into their gender as well. I love how sassy he is and how perfect he and Kari work together. Just imagine how perfectly androgynous he could be??? Matt is literally in a band, and in Tri I feel like fashion is such a big topic,,, idk I just saw that in his personal style I could see them wearing skirts and dresses, lots of jewelry, yk? And with the hats?? Ugh, just imagine T.K. in one of those Rockstar girlfriend outfitsssss A long denim skirt, the chunky docs, a very slightly cropped shirt, chains, and to top it off a kind of newsboy cap (the cute kind obvi)??? And when he realizes he doesn't totally feel like a boy, he immediately goes to Sora bc Sora is obvi the mom friend of the group and has the best advice, so she tells him that it's ok, and to talk to mimi about how to express himself better. So he goes to mimi and they talk about it, and she does his nails, and he's like " 😧😧😧😧" (IN A GOOD WAY) and she gives him some old things from her closet to try on bc how else is he supposed to find out what he likes?? BTW, guys, I hate mimi in s1, but in 02, she's literally the sweetest and most supportive person. And then when he comes out to the new digidestined, Iori and Daisuke are confused asf but 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ and miyako is a tad bit offensive but without meaning to be, and then Kari is so super supportive especially bc she once accidentally walked in on Tai and Matt kissing or smth. So, interesting dream this morning. Usually I put these on my Facebook, but I know less of the people there will know what I'm talking about in this one than people here.

The main thing I remember was visiting some odd school, looking for someone with my best friend and my partner, we got separated for a bit because I got lost, but when I went outside to try and find them, I found a house where some One Piece characters lived. Specifically, Ivankov, Ace, Marco, and Yamato all lived there; there might have been others, but those are the ones I know were there.

What I found kinda interesting is that I knew in the dream that these guys were from a manga, not just a bunch of people. They also still had their Devil Fruit powers.

One of the events involved in this house, though, that started to bug me in the dream was Marco referring to Yamato as both he/him and "girl" in the same sentence. I bothered me enough that I decided to go and be confused at my best friend instead of continue to the house (which I should have done because I could have asked Yamato, who would know).

After being yelled at by a student for riding a bicycle in the hallway, I met up with my best friend and he said that he could think of two solutions: Yamato was he/she bigender or just outright genderfluid. I accepted this idea, then resolved to find where my partner was in the school (she was attending a student choir performance) and visit Ivankov to ask if they could speed up the effects of HRT on me (not do a full transformation, just give me the boobs HRT would give me eventually).

We got to the house (after I had a brief tumble down a short set of poorly made stairs), but before I could talk to Ivankov, I fell through a hole in the house's floor and landed in Marco's room, though he wasn't in it; he was upstairs with Ace trying to learn piano, apparently.

I woke up when Marco and Ace entered the room bickering about something.

My own list in this post is anime, manga, games mostly but in the spreadsheet you can add anything.

Following my tierlist of them, I realized I should make a public list so theyre not just kept in my head, since I spent quite a while finding these characters. If you want to watch/play anything with trans or gnc characters, you can use this list.

They range from good rep to bad, characters viewed as "traps" or not taken seriously to ones that the whole fandom understands is trans. I've added trigger warnings to the characters and fandoms I know can be triggering. I've also put certain names in bold to show that they're a main character, but i've only watched a few on this list so some are missing.

I would add trigger warnings for "bury your gays" and similar tropes, but I want to avoid spoilers. Maybe you can look it up first if you're worried. I've tried to exclude characters that are referred to as hermaphrodites.

I've recently been thinking a lot about the queer rep in One Piece (particularly Ivankov and the the New Kama of Impel Down) and how it feels different from a lot of other main stream/popular media that also has queer rep in it. And the best way I can think of describing it is that it doesn't feel sanitized in the way a lot of other queer rep/media does.

Like. Normally queer rep in pop media tends towards cis gay (often cis gay white men) who do not present as overly feminine, who are "just like you" (you being cishet people) with the only difference being that they like boys as a boy (or girls as a girl). It shies away from queer culture and places its gay characters in heteronormative roles despite their gayness. Queerness in One Piece doesn't do that, and Ivankov and the New Kama are the perfect example of that.

Everything about them is queer. From the gay club hidden in a prison, to Ivankov himself - being a queer genderfluid drag queen whose power set involves being able to instantly trans another persons gender, to Inazuma regular switching between masc and fem presenting with no explanation.

I think this panel

encapsulates that feeling perfectly. This is in no way meant to hand hold the cishet audience. It is unapologetically queer, directly questioning not just the gender binary, but the very concept of gender. It celebrates the differences and diversity that is found within queerness in a way I rarely ever see in other main stream media of similar popularity.

I cannot overstate how happy - as a queer and trans person - this makes me. To have a shonen manga of all things celebrate the inherent weirdness that is human gender expression, and have it not be played as a joke. To have characters like Ivankov and Inazuma be important to the story (NESSISCARY even). And to do that without hand holding the audience, or over explaining what is happening in these scenes.

And this isn't even mentioning other queer/trans characters like Yamato, Kiku, and Bon Clay. All of who are incredibly interesting and complex characters whose queerness and transness is presented with sincerity. Yamato's trans identity in particular is wonderfully intertwined with the rest of his character, bleeding into is idolization/respect of Oden, and his desires and dreams (being to follow in Oden's footsteps and act as the protector of Wano).

And obviously One Piece doesn't have perfect queer rep (no piece of media does). But I would much rather have queer rep that celebrates queerness as a whole with a few missteps along the way, then purely inoffensive rep that strips away any and all queer culture, sanitizing it to be appealing to a cishet audience.

Guys OP has a s literal army of trans characters, it's actually a plot point, there's literally so fucking many trans and NB and genderfluid people in OP its kind of fucking insane

There's Bon Clay/Bentham from as early as Alabasta in March of 2000, 3 years after the initial publication of OP

Bon's powers let him transform into other people, and he's the only member of a bad guy group with male/female partners who doesn't have a female partner bc he's both the male AND female partner in his rank

He doesn't need one bc he's both

Bon is also consistently one of the best characters who helps Luffy, and who deeply respects the bonds of friendship, and he deeply admires Ivankov (next in the list)

Plus, Bon Clay is only one of two in the villain group to become good guys and befriends the main characters

There's fucking Ivankov, Queen of Kammabakka Kingdom an island full of drag queens and trans people, with his hormone powers that lets him trans all the genders for himself and everyone around him (aka the Newkama in Impel Down- a literal army of trans people who help Luffy break out of prison so he can save his brother)

AND he's the second in command of the Revolutionary Army, a group actively against the World Government that controls the entire globe, and is fighting against it's corrupt politics and ideals, such as allowing slavery for the higher classes, fighting the racism against Fishman it's held up for centuries, and all that stuff

Ivankov is one of the most important characters in the series in regards to the world politics and the fight for freedom against the oppression of the WG, and he works with what are unambiguously the Good Guys in the world, who are headed by Luffy's father

There's Okiku in Wano, who its 100% trans and even gets the horny Sanji treatment

(which is kinda important bc there was some Bad Trans/Queer rep earlier in the series involving Sanji running from drag queens who were harassing him and for a while Sanji was pretty transphobic and it was a whole thing, but Oda seems to have learned or educated himself by this point, so yay)

Plus Okiku is a super strong samurai, fucking powerful girl go off, and everyone treats her as one of the girls and she's the best tbh she deserves the world

She's so sweet and kind and strong af and is just as much a warrior as the rest of her group

Plus there's Yamato

Who, to be very clear, is not CONFIRMED as trans, but has a lot of gender fuckery going on that he belongs on this list imo, come to your own conclusions ig

Yamato is 100% confirmed as the biological daughter of Kaido, which is backed up in several other sources and even a colorspread with only biological women, but everyone in the story itself refers to him as he/him, Including Luffy who calls him by Yama-guy/Yamao

(something Luffy only does for men- he calls Ivankov and other more genderfluid or femme leaning queer folks by -chan)

and Yamato calls himself the Son of Kaido multiple times

Yamato saw someone be so awesome that he wanted to emulate that person and become them-

but as an apparently separate decision, he decided he also wanted to be a man, too! Not just because of Kozuki Oden, but because holy fuck look at that gender, I want that for myself!!!

His identity as Kozuki Oden and his identity as Son of Kaido seem to be separate things, bc Kaido, Kaido's forces, Luffy (our main character who helps us understand how to treat situations), and everyone else around him at least acknowledges that Yamato, is, in fact, the SON of Kaido, and everyone, regardless of which side they're on in the war, respects that and treats it as fact

Meanwhile, absolutely no one treats Yamato like he's actually Kozuki Oden

And there's no sign of Yamato being forced to become a man because Kaido wanted a son- 1), he was called Oni Princess fairly consistently as a child by Kaido's forces, and 2) he only became known as Son of Kaido after Yamato himself decided he wanted to become a man

Yamato has refused everything forced on him by his father, and has run away, hid, and fought back at every moment he could, and his gender and pronouns were the only real decision of his own that have been respected as all his other freedoms were taken from him

(Which doesn't say much about his horrible father- Kaido was guided by an incredibly strong female pirate at a young age, and he has plenty of strong women among his crew. Kaido doesn't care about what gender his kid is, or gender at all)

So yeah while Yamato is not confirmed in the text as trans like many other characters are in much more obvious ways, and several sources confirm that he's biologically female, he still goes by Son and he/him by the other characters and by his own choice, so make of that what you will

Who are you?

I'm Kiana, I'm a queer, Japanese Jamaican woman, and a Director/Storyboard artist at Disney Television Animation.

What are your pronouns

I usually go by she/her but I don't really mind any pronouns~

Where did you go to school?

California College of the Arts (but I dropped out when I was hired at Disney)

How did you get hired at Disney?

My bosses found me on twitter through my Team Rocket fanart. They liked my drawing style and asked if I wanted to take a storyboard test. I did, I passed, I got interviewed and moved to LA two weeks later to start storyboarding.

It's a combination of the main 4 Team Rocket members' Japanese names: Yamato (cassidy), Musashi (jessie), Kojiro (james), Kosaburo (butch)

Who's your favorite Pokémon?

What are your favorite ships?

Any ship with Jessie. Yamushipping, Rocketshipping and Hanamusashipping are my top three!

Who do you ship Ash with?

I was a big Pokéshipper when I was younger but nowadays don't really feel strongly about any of the ships involving the kid characters. I'm also in the "Ash is aroace" camp.

Do you have any trans headcanons?

You can find em here along with other headcanons! It should be noted that I don't usually marry myself to one hc (unless it's for a specific AU I'm trying to build out) and love seeing various interpretations of a character! Trans woman Jessie, Trans woman James, Trans man James, Genderfluid Jessie, give em to me!

Do you play the games?

I've played all the mainline Pokémon games and very much enjoy them! But I am much more invested in the anime and the characters in the anime.

HANAMUSA AU QUESTIONS

Where can I read all the comics in order?

Here! I update anytime I make a new comic and list them in chronological order (since I just draw comics at random points in the timeline as they interest me). This post also already answers some of the frequently asked questions about this AU like: How did Jessie and Delia meet? What are James and Meowth up to? How old are Jessie and Delia? etc.

What does "Hanamusa" mean?

Hanamusa is a combination of Delia and Jessie's Japanese names, Hanako and Musashi respectively.

When does this AU take place?

It takes place sometime after the Mezase Pokémon Master/To Be a Pokémon Master series. So all the events that happened in the series, unless retconned within the series, happened. Ash is 10 at the start of the comics.

What's the status between Jessie, James, Meowth and Giovanni/Team Rocket?

Not great terms since they were fired, but also not the worst terms. Giovanni just let the three of them go without any further issues. I will say that I've always loved the theory that Giovanni keeps Jessie specifically around because of her parentage and he as a soft spot for her that he keeps a secret. I feel like Matori was the one that got the three of them fired and Giovanni wasn't able to make an excuse for them this time (without showing nepotism/special treatment) so he was forced to let them go.

If you headcanon Delia as a lesbian, how did Ash come to be?

Delia was young when she had Ash and I hc that she just didn’t really explore her sexuality much! I myself didn’t realized I liked women until I was 18 and didn’t know I liked ONLY women until like 2 years ago. She got married, had a baby and realized after her husband left that she liked women (trans people exist obviously but I’m also interpreting Ash’s father as a cis man).

Who do you think Ash’s dad is?

I don’t know and I don’t really care to explore it. I’m going off of the novel interpretation that he’s just a deadbeat that left to be a trainer, failed and never came back because of the shame. He’s not important.

Isn’t Giovanni Ash’s dad?

That’s a common misconception that people remember wrong from the Pokémon Live show. Delia mentions she dated Giovanni but then left him and his gang after meeting Ash’s father. I also don’t consider the live show canon personally! I follow The Birth of Mewtwo timeline where Madame Boss founded Team Rocket.

Do you think Delia and Giovanni dated at least?

Nah, I think he’s too old for her? I always got the vibe from The Birth of Mewtwo that he was quite a bit older than Jessie and it’d be sus if he was dating Delia when she was married to, and had a child with her husband at 18/19. He’s a bad guy but not a BAD guy.

You mentioned you still ship Jessie and James. Why not make a Jessie, James, Delia polycule?

I have a few reasons I’ve mentioned before! 1. I’m in super deep with this AU already and I feel it’d be very confusing for casual viewers of my stuff if James was added into the relationship haha. 2. I’ve drawn Jessie and James together since 2011 and took this AU as an opportunity to try my hand at writing them as queer, platonic besties bc I love that interpretation of them a lot as well. 3. I’m not poly myself and the way I write this ship is largely based off of my experiences with my girlfriend. I just know I’d favor the Jessie/Delia of it all which isn’t fair and not a good interpretation of a poly relationship. All that said, I DO super enjoy seeing peoples’ poly headcanons and art!

Who does James end up with in this AU?

No one. He's aroace and is happy to be single

Do Jessie and James have all their Pokémon in this AU

I think they have all the Pokémon that they did by the end of Mezase Pokémon Master (all their Pokémon that were left at HQ). Most of their released Pokémon have stayed released and the Alola Pokémon are still in Alola. I bring back Arbok and Weezing post-Jessie and Delia getting married. I may bring back Chimecho, Growlie and Cacnea if I think of an idea I like!

Does Ash travel with anyone at this point of his life?

I don't have anyone in particular in mind! I could see him making new friends (Nemona???) or traveling with different combinations of old friends. Like him, Misty and Goh, him, Dawn and Cilan, him, Serena and Lillie etc.

Will Delia ever get over her phobia of snake Pokémon

Not fully! I think overcoming fears is fine and good but I think real PHOBIAS are much harder to get past and I don't want to cheapen it. She slowly gets used to Jessie's Seviper specifically and gets to the point where she can pet it comfortably with Jessie in the room. But otherwise, still scared and would need that same amount of time per Pokémon

Is Jessie gaining weight or is it just me?

Not just you! Jessie puts on a bit of relationship weight overtime as you'll see in the later comics in the timeline. Jessie grew in poverty, never knowing when her next meal would be and that continued into her life as a Team Rocket member. Once she was able to settle down (with a woman who runs her own restaurant no less) she's able to live a healthier lifestyle with regular meals and puts on some weight because of that.

Does Jessie ever feel self conscious about gaining weight?

Nope! She feels happier and healthier and hotter. She's also unreasonably excited to clear out her old clothes and get a new wardrobe.

Would Jessie and Delia ever have kids together or adopt?

Nah, Ash is enough for them! I have come up with hypothetical kids for them but they're not canon to this AU. Just a fun little thing for me.

Will you ever put this on webtoon?

Nah. People mostly ask me this because they want to read everything in the order of the timeline but to my knowledge, you can’t reorder chapters or installments which would defeat the purpose. I also don’t think nintendo fan stuff would fly there. Also, also it’s just extra work and another place to upload and I want to keep this all fun for myself~

Fans, I want to begin this with a hypothetical scenario: If Monty was alive and he animated the scene where Blake kissed Sun, but he went about it in his Monty way (over-the-top), how would you have reacted?

Would you have respected his decision to animate the seeming confirmation of Black Sun? Have faith that Bumblebee was endgame? Or downright condemn Oum for having Blake kiss Sun?

Before you answer, I want to give a huge shout out to the people who say "if you hate RWBY, you would hate One Piece!" because if anything, the fans would despise the Yamato fanbase.

As a disclaimer, I'm in support of Yamato being whatever gender they're most comfortable with (hence why I'm using they/them pronounce). However, the lengths people go to in order to justify Yamato being identified as male is absolutely absurd.

And this is just for a simple, non-canonical color spread of Yamato being with female characters in One Piece.

And, just so we're keeping score, One Piece is also a story that's been planned from the start, with plot points being set up decades in advance.

But you wanna know how fucked the "Yamato identifies as Male" defense squad really is?

Vivre Cards are essentially bits and pieces of information that explain about the characters in the world of One Piece, all approved by Oda. They're basically like that RWBY artbook released a while back...

But, if you notice, it brings up that their gender is female. Guess how fans took that?

I'd like to tell you the name of this lovely artist, but in the same vein as those people wanting to murder Oda, I fear that doing so will only invite wrath towards the person in question since when someone else brought this up on their YouTube channel, they had the brilliant idea to copyright strike the video.

A One Piece fan artist copyright struck a video that talked about this art piece of the character outright denying authorial intent. Need I remind you of that controversy surrounding Toei Animation being copyright happy couple of years back and how ironic this shit is?

Now, RWBY fans may be rolling their eyes and saying how this is false equivalence. But really think about this:

You all are talking about how Monty would have wanted this or how Monty confirmed Bumblebee from beyond the grave, that you never stopped to think what would have happened if he was still alive and animating RWBY.

Now, with the information you now have, answer that question I asked above. If Oum were alive and animated this but more over-the-top:

How would you react? Because if your answer mirrors that of the responses seen above, then this is my response:

For as much as people preach about authorial intent and how "Monty would have wanted it this way", using "you'd hate One Piece" as their defense is extremely hypocritical

"It was planned from the start" is the equivalent of Nostradamus predictions in RWBY community. And my hatred for Monty "whisperers".

There have been many discussions in the RWBY community about what has been planned in the show, what has not. If that is good or bad etc. I think almost EVERYONE in the RWBY community has experienced such discussions at least once, especially if they were active during BB shipping days.

I am not here to talk about what has been or what has not been planned in the show, rather, i am here to talk just about how vaguelly CRWBY talks about what it wants from RWBY, and how the completely insane fanbase of RWBY instantly uses any vagueries as proof that something has been “planned from the start”.

Nostradamus, what?

Some of you might wonder, what does Nostradamus have to do with any of this? Everything. You see, Nostradamus is known for “predicting the future” back in 16th century. And many things that have historically happened after his death have been said to have been predicted by him, such as Napoleons rise to power, Hitlers rise to power and even 9/11.

And yet, all of this is… Well… Bullshit.

Despite his fame if one reads his predictions one can realize that they are incredibly vague and general. To such an extent that they could apply to MULTIPLE different events in history. This is actually a tactic is often employed by liars to deceive people.

Because at the end of the day, if you are general and vague enough, people will fill in their own gaps in what you mean.

RWBY Plans?

Which brings me back to RWBY. A lot of IDEAS of RWBY have been established from the very start, and even talked about in interviews by Monty himself. Monty wanted there to be organic romances, for the characters to mature over time together with the audience etc.

The thing is. A lot of these statements of intention are vague. They are vague ideas of what Monty WANTS to do with RWBY. But not specific ways.

We also know very well that a LOT of things in RWBY have changed heavily. Raven is a great example, because post V2 the writers straight up admitted that only Monty knew what he wanted to do with Raven, so they had to improvise and pretend that V2 post credits scene with Raven and Yang did not exist.

V9 for example was a Volume that was vaguelly planned before, a separate world to explore the characters. But besides that, its specifics have not been at all decided. Hell, even when this Volume was supposed to happen was not decided or planned at all beforehand. As admited by the writers themselves.

But many of this, we already know. We know that RWBY has been planned in vague directions and intentions with specifics being figured out, in some cases literally while the show was STILL airing.

That matters little however. Regardless if something is planned or not, what people care about is the quality of the work. Unless one is a RWBY fanatic that is.

Monty “Whispering”

In the most recent volumes, with more and more information of documentaries and writers thoughts coming out, and especially with advent of BB being confirmed. Many people started seeking out old clips, especially old clips of Monty to start and claim things.

Many of his vague or general statements started being treated as “CONFIRMATIONS” by Monty himself about how everything in V9 and other times has been “planned from the start”.

Tweets like these became very common from pieces of shit that are Monty “Whisperers”. One of the most famous one being the clip where i think its Barbara asking whether or not she can confirm a same sex romance and getting answered negatively by Kerry. Which would not be disgusting on its own, but for one thing, Monty was in that same video. And despite Monty saying NOTHING in that video, people started shouting from the rooftops “SEE! MONTY PLANNED IT FROM THE START” “MONTY CONFIRMED BB” and other such statements.

And its fucking disgusting.

And before V9, some of these people were the ones i activelly followed. But after V9, and seeing the criticism it received, they seemingly completely changed overnight and became as disgusting as the worst of the fanatics.

And this kind of behaviour is the most disgusting of all.

I have often said that using Monty to criticize the show or defend it, is disgusting. The man is dead. Let him rest. And yet, these people use his corpse as Nostradamus of the RWBY community. They look at his vague or general statements, and then apply them to SPECIFIC instances in the show to say that “LOOK, CONFIRMATION!”.

And what else am i supposed to say besides it being disgusting?

I dont care about plans

I want to end with the simple statement. I do not care if RWBY has been planned or not. We know of instances where things have been vaguelly planned and where they were written literally when the show was still airing. We know that. None of that changes the quality of the writing.

What i DO care about is this recent phenomena of RWBY fanatics treating Monty as Nostradamus. Finding his old clips and then constantly applying his general/vague words for their own ends. Despite saying that they hate when people use Montys name in vain, these people do it most often, and in most disgusting of ways, directly not just invoking Monty but his words.

Remember when people gave shit to people who said “Monty said that team RWBY is a sisterhood!”? I do. And yet now these fanatics do the exact same shit, taking Montys general words and then applying it to their own ends. And then they feel self-righteous about it.

Fuck em.

And this is kind of the entire point of this thread. To point out this disgusting trend, trend from people i once considered to be normal fans. But it seems that such fans rarely last.
