Inktober and life keeps me busy but here a sketch of Simon and Baz that, one day, will be a full illustration, background and everything. Till then, here the sketch, inspired by a Simon’s quote where he says he likes to hold Baz with everything he has or that he would like to grow extra arms so he can hold onto Baz (?) something like that. The Vampire Knight and The Chivalrous Dragon

Sneaking in just before the deadline for @carryon-reverse-bang 2023, I’m so so thrilled to present my artwork and the accompanying first chapter of The Vampire Knight and the Chivalrous Dragon written by the talented @scribble-tier.

My idea was based around the English legend of St George and the dragon- an excuse to live out my dreams of putting Baz into shiny armour to match his glossy hair. Jude ran with it and is giving us a slow burn fic filled with class division, familial obligation and sword fights!

The artwork is only half of the original image I’d intended to create, so the final full piece will be released later on, accompanying whichever chapter feels most appropriate. I can’t wait for you to see the full thing and I’m so excited to read the rest of this story. Thank you @scribble-tier for picking my prompt, it’s been great working with you (: Hope you all enjoy!

Summary:

Basilton Grimm-Pitch is set to be a knight of legend and renown, with a powerful bloodline and training like very few knights before him. But when he's tasked to slay the beast setting fire to the kingdom, he grapples with how to decline without tarnishing his image or going up in flames himself.

And then Simon Snow is one of the missing.

Wip Wednesday Moment!

I took a break from doing anything creative for a little bit because it seemed like I was burning myself out quite a bit! But I have uni coming up next week and I really needed to create something before it started again. Just for my own sanity.

I'm working in earnest on Chapter 2 of my gift fic for @artsyunderstudy, Hiding Out In The Open. Which is a getting together (a little bit) later fic centred on Simon and Baz bonding over a psychology podcast. I know, I know, it's A CONCEPT. Which leads me to my share today, which is a little bit of Simon POV of some texting about said podcast:

You wound me, Snow. However will I go on in the face of your searing insight. He wants searing insight? I’ll give him searing insight. “it's precisely because luxury objects are unnecessary that they can become potent signals of prowess as a proxy for genetic fitness” I’m still furiously typing a follow-up when his reply pops up. You expect me to believe you know what ‘proxy for genetic fitness’ means? What a dick. (A true arsehole savant.) I add an emoji with a flourish before firing off my reply. something something science, something something wearing pointy shiny shoes worth more than my life is how complete wankers trick girls into liking them  :peacock emoji: 🦚  so there [redacted] My phone buzzes again under my thigh, where I've tucked it out of sight. I slide it out just enough that I can see the screen and casually thumb the notification down. Have you actually been looking up how much my shoes cost, Snow? Believe me when I tell you that attracting women has less than nothing to do with my Berlutis.

Hello!! Thanks for the tags @hushed-chorus, @bookish-bogwitch, @cosmicalart, @j-nipper-95, @forabeatofadrum, @orange-peony, @ileadacharmedlife and @aroace-genderfluid-sheep! So fun to see what everyone is working on!

I've been doing some tests for audio for my @caught-on-tape-fest, which has been difficult because my children have been home sick almost every day this week. Anyway, got a first roll of a fic and learned a lot, like: I'm definitely not going to be trying a British accent (comes out half-Australian, I blame Bluey), I need a working doc so that I can highlight different characters dialogue in different colors to allow for different pacing and emphasis, and I need to talk slower. 

That said, I am excited and it's fun. Haven't yet done any editing but I have done that before and I feel pretty sure I'll be able to manage. 

Also this week I wrote some Simon's Two Mums and some of one of my CORB pieces. Sentences from both below!

My CORB piece, draft titled mechanic!Simon:

One of my foster families had three cars up on blocks in the backgarden. Kitty said she collected kids and Jules collected cars. It worked for them. Worked for me too. Kitty wasn't my biggest fan, but Jules didn't mind a quiet pair of eyes watching him, tools being passed his way when he reached for them. He didn't talk a lot either, but when he bought the Mini ('74) he patted the hood and said, "Happy Birthday, Simon."

Simon's two mums (draft titled normal!Simon even though he's reallllly not) also this is 8 sentences. Ah well:

Baz uses words like purview. I can barely get my lips around them. Why the crucible thought that he and I would be good as roommates, I don't know.  But I do like him. And he likes Penny. And Penny likes me. So it works out, even if it does kind of suck to be the in-between friend.  Not that Keris and Penny are better suited as roommates than Baz and me.

One thing that's helping me to work on these two pieces in tandem is that they're both stories where the WOM timeline doesn't happen the way it does in canon, so I get to be really generative in thinking about what the actual universe of CO is like, and what the social and political dynamics would be like if the events that happen canonically hadn't happened. Fun! Difficult! My jam.

Hello all! Happy weekend!

I finally updated Depth of Reason and posted chapter 7 last week. I’ve got a bit to the start of chapter 8 to share with you today. Penny’s baby shower is imminent and Simon has had some help from Baz to get his flat ready:

As I was readying myself for bed last night, I walked through the living room, feeling a bit out of place with the streamers and balloons in pastel colors covering the walls.

But when I remembered Baz helping me bring in the groceries, stuffing my fridge together until it was nearly bursting, and hearing his soft goodnight as he left, knowing I’d see him here first thing in the morning, well. I don’t think this place has ever felt so much like home in all the years I’ve lived here.

I also posted the third and finally chapter of Episode 3: The Diplomat, my contribution to our Carry On Star Trek collab for @raenestee. Here’s a bit:

“Alright, up you go,” Dev says. He’s down on one knee and has his hand out to help me. Clearly, he wants me to stand on his thigh in order to access the vent, but it still seems impossibly high.

“You can’t be serious.”

“You’ll be fine,” he says dismissively. “That’s why he’s here.”

“Come on, Baz,” Snow says from above. “I’ll pull you up. It’ll be fine.” He leans further out of the vent as if to make the task seem less daunting and I can see freckled shoulders and arms on full display.

“Lights and stars, are you naked?” I ask.

“Very nearly,” he says, wiggling his fingers at me.

Why is Simon naked? Why do they need to hoist Baz up through the ceiling vents? Hmm…

Hello everyone! Bloody hell, there were a lot of posts for SSS! I loved going through them all. I'm particularly excited by all the COTTA works in development. Two weeks until posting starts!!

I've mentioned my shipwreck COTTA before, but I don't think I've shared from the other one; the What Remains After The Storm one-shot titled Fifty Names for a Cat.

Though it's a short sequel to WRATS, it's tonally quite different. This snippet gives the vibe without major WRATS spoilers.

Nothing showcases the depths of human ingenuity quite like a well-made box. There is something intangibly alluring about boxes. Something about their closeness. About the way they cup the body so reverently when you sit within them. And the snugger the fit, the better.  “Baz, he’s doing it again,” Simon says, arms full of little wooden animals. Basilton sighs. “Just move him.” “But he looks so cosy.” I am cosy. I don’t know why they would place all these delightful boxes around the study then insist on filling them with linens and books and their silly knick-knacks when I could be sitting in them. Humans are strange.

OK so I was thinking about a dark AU where Simon's Magic sharing is more evil, like he uses other mages as wands (Stephen and Premal) and he's like an eldritch being (I mean his conception was canonically pretty metal just saying) so I drew Simon using a couple of his dad's Mages men as human wands. The Mages Men has a cult like devotion to the Chosen one and train to endure pain since sharing Simon's Magic is painful (unless your Baz) but it's considered an honor

I finally have an outline for the whole story!!! Now I just need to draft it!! Very exciting!!

24 year old Simon, now has to figure out how to get Young Simon, Penny and Baz to work together, so he can get back to the happiest day of his life.

So I've got one CORB fic posted here and another one coming up this week. Literally buzzing with excitement 🥰

Strangely, today's snippet is NOT from either CORB. I decided last minute--as you do--to write a fic for the Carry On Countdown. So this is for today's prompt "Confession", which I've started writing... today 😂

Baz and I were fighting on the lawn. That's pretty standard for us, so much so that I don't even remember what the fight was about.  The worst part is that we'd been getting on quite well, lately. Working together to solve Baz's mum's murder case. We have a truce—had a truce. Until I went and cocked it all up.  “Just tell me where you've been,” I'd said. I'd been pestering Baz about it all afternoon, until he finally snapped.  “It's none of your business,” he'd said, a sneer aimed at me. And then he added, scathingly, for good measure: “What do you want to hear, Snow?” And there's where I fucked up.  “The truth!” I shouted. I was already swimming in magic, so it should come as no surprise that my next words were absolutely soaked through with it: “The naked truth.”  Baz's eyes widened. I immediately opened my mouth to take it back, but it was too late—his clothes were already disappearing, vanishing into thin air. 

(To be quite honest, I don't know if I will post it today. That depends on how fast I can write it, how rough it will come out, and if I'll have the patience to hand it to a beta or not. It's totally possible I'll post it completely unedited ten minutes to midnight, or I'll hold it off for a week after the prompt is due...)

Wow, it’s actually Wednesday and I have remembered to post!! *takes a moment to pat self on head*

This portrait of Baz (still pouty even when surprised) is part of my piece for this year’s @carryon-reverse-bang with the fantastic @scribble-tier writing a fic to accompany the full image.

I’ve still got a lot to do on this piece- including adding a whole other figure and a background -while also prepping for running my stall at a 4 day Christmas market at the end of this month and pausing work for a family get together this weekend for my dad’s 80th birthday… so it’s looking likely that Baz will be accompanying the first chapter of @scribble-tier’s fic on his own for now, but I’m making it my mission to finish the full piece to coincide with the rest of the fic being posted later.

I hope you like how it’s looking so far. I’m looking forward to adding all the shading to Baz’s armour to make it (almost) as shiny as his hair XD

so, i started a silly AU comic last night wherein simon is a fairy and baz is an art student. but please note: i am using the word comic very lightly. i don't know how to draw comics, but i do know how to draw characters standing in a pastel void space giving each other heart-eyes in the company of colour-coded talk bubbles. 😂

Today, I'm sharing a bit more from Chapter 2 of Hiding Out In The Open. (My Simon and Baz bond over a psychology podcast fic written for the lovely @artsyunderstudy.) I'm NEARLY done with this chapter, hoping to post very soon. Here's some Baz. It's a bit long so I've stuck it under the cut.

This whole thing was impossible to predict. That I’d have spent the past several days messaging back and forth with Snow. I never expected him to give me his number in the first place, never thought he’d take my phone in his sturdy hands and type it in there himself. I pull it out now and caress the screen, where Simon touched it, like the pathetic sap that I am. Of course this—nearly midnight on a weeknight when any civilised person would know better—is the exact moment Fiona chooses to throw open the door to the bedroom with a bang. “Aha!” Her lips twist in a smirk. “I knew you had a bloke.” “And I told you I don’t.” I tuck the phone tidily back into my pocket. “Oh come on, Basil, there’s no need to hide Randy or Ryan or whatever his name is from little old me. Why don’t you bring him ‘round? I don’t bite.” I internally curse her inexplicably keen powers of observation. (I may have renamed Snow’s contact record to ‘Roger Rain’, just in case. And if she’s managed to pick up on that, I shudder to think what else she's seen.) “You don’t, but your questionable choice for a life partner does. And so do I, for that matter.” She leans against the doorway, crossing her arms and cocking a suggestive eyebrow. “Some people like a little bite, you know.” “Spare me the details of your love life, Fiona.” Her eyes sparkle at my discomfort. “I wouldn't even say he's a friend.” She comes over and takes me by the jaw, squeezing my mouth into a pout with her fingertips. “This smile I keep seeing on your sweet little face tells another story, boyo. And it’s like you said: this summer is your chance to be yourself.” She waggles her eyebrows at me. “But fine, play it your way. You know I’ll find out in the end.”

Late, but here I am! Technically still Wednesday for another 30 minutes. I've been writing a bit this week!!! So fucking exciting. Not as much time to write as I'd like, but them's the breaks.

Mostly I've been working on Simon's two mums, so I'm going to give y'all a snippet of that, but you're also going to get a snippet of my other baby: holsom time loop, because I came back to reread it this week and also spent some time thinking about what I need to write next, and I kind of have a plan for what's next for both of those fics which makes my lack of writing time even worse!

Simon's mums, Simon pov:

"What about the Tooth Fairy?"

"Real," Penny says, "A Bone-ty hunter with faerie blood. Though he works exclusively with magical families. Baz, did your parents give your teeth to Paul?"

Baz hums, "Still have the ingot he gave me when he took my molars."

I prod at my last baby molar, a little loose but holding on. "Do you think he'd give me anything for mine?"

Baz rolls his eyes. "Yes, but he prefers a full set. And The Mage forbade Paul from the grounds of Watford years ago."

Y'all know what line of canon I'm referring to here, I'm sure. What a joy it is to write this story!

I’ve got a bit from chapter 7 of Depth of Reason, which I think is coming along nicely. Let’s hope I don’t change my mind in a week, delete half of it, and try again like I’ve done for the past few chapters haha. (Pray for me.)

Baz didn’t seem the least bit flustered. Then again, he’s always been able to keep his cool better than me. He made small talk and joked with ease. Meanwhile, I felt my palms go clammy any time I wondered whether he was teasing me or flirting with me. Merlin, is it possible he’s been flirting with me for a while?

Thankfully, I had my stupid clipboard with my stupid interview checklist that I could refer to any time I couldn’t think what to say.

Thank you for complimenting my shirt. It’s possible I bought it while thinking of you. Now, if you wouldn’t mind, can you please indicate on a scale of 1 to 10 how energized you felt after the last time you drank six rats?

Okay, it wasn’t quite as awful as that. But it felt pretty damn close.

Things are shifting this chapter and Simon doesn’t know how to handle it, poor guy.

On Friday I finished chapter 3 of 4 of my Parks and Rec AU, but I think I want to have at least most of chapter 4 before posting. In the meantime, have a snippet:

Baz wipes his eyes under his glasses, and when he looks at me again his expression is sober and collected again.

“Don’t think I’m going to let it slip,” he says, ominously. My heart starts racing. Are we already going to address it? With Shep threatening to burst in at any given time? “You played rugby and never told me?”

The relieved breath I exale is honestly pathetic.

“I didn’t think it was a relevant thing to mention.”

“You’re insane,” Baz says.
