If you’re having trouble imagining what the society full of asexual and “nonbinary-performing” people mentioned in my last post (that are present in my novel), just imagine living in a city of only people like this, because it’s been so long since anyone’s been anything but like this, that it’s abnormal (yet accepted) to be anything else.

I love how in my novel I get to have worlds collide between this future society and binary-identifying people of the “old world” (you’ll see) because it will make so many points on the absurdity of it all just by having these characters meet and interact with each other. Gender studies are not at all the primary focus of my novel The Carbon Coast, but instead are baked into the very essence of the near-future Earth its characters are living in.
