I've been getting increasingly pissed off at stuff like this with Helluva Boss for a while now so I'm running out of room for patience and giving the benefit of the doubt.
I'm not Deaf/HoH but I do have audio processing disorder and I have been involved with the Deaf/HoH community through learning Auslan and needing some of the same accommodations in my life so it's becoming increasingly apparent just how much they get short-changed by a society that does not care and has to be pressed constantly for the bare minimum of accommodating anyone other than the expected default abled demographic.
I'm sorry but while having a character who signs was fucking amazing to see even as a Hearing person
Tumblr media
and it's been genuinely great to have the last episode of Season 1 with actual subtitles and all of Season 2 up to this one having actual subtitles
Tumblr media
SEASON 1 STILL HAS FUCKING AUTO-GEN
We have to read T R A N S C R I P T S to understand what's going on in the entirety of Season 1 except for the final episode because while Hearing people who aren't affected by needing actual subtitles seem to think autogen and otherwise having to engage with just a transcript is good enough, news flash, IT ISN'T. Autogen has been getting better but it still fucks up (if your accommodation doesn't bring everyone up to speed with the same access as abled people your accommodation isn't good enough) and if your video is older like Season 1s are then they're FUCKING AWFUL. Even good autogen takes more energy to engage with than proper subtitles making it still more difficult than it needs to be to engage with a video.
This has annoyed me for a while but I was hoping they just needed some time to sort out someone to go make subtitles and put them up.
At the very least I figured ok, they're at least putting proper subtitles up for Season 2. Took them until OOPS came out to do it if I recall correctly, but they did it. Strange they stopped at the end of Season 1 but ok, whatever. Give them time.
Nothing has changed. It's been 3 years and nothing has changed.
Then The Full Moon dropped directly after Mammon's Magnificent Musical. I was expecting there to be proper subtitles since Season 2 now is being given them upon release.
Tumblr media
...
So basically fuck anyone who needs proper subtitles.
This
Tumblr media
is officially lip service to look good, not proper representation.
You can't follow this with fucking autogenerated bullcrap pretending to be accommodation.
I saw someone sending an ask in an hour or so ago to another blog to talk about The Full Moon and mentioned offhandedly in it that they had to look at the transcript to catch a line they wanted to understand and talk about.
I'd been hoping they would just put the subtitles up maybe a day or so later at least.
IT'S BEEN A WEEK.
Vivzie doesn't care about Deaf/HoH people. She chucked the kid in for brownie points. And hey, sure, brownie point rep is better than no rep, but it isn't actual representation and really doesn't deserve that much praise if you immediately follow it up with a fucking AUTOGEN ENGLISH ONLY EPISODE.
Sincerely, fuck you too.
EDIT: There are proper subtitles on The Apology Tour, so I'm glad for that at least. It came out like two weeks after The Full Moon meaning it had to be in production at the same time so idk why they could put subtitles on release for TAT and not TFM, but whatever. And hilariously (read: mystifyingly and infuriatingly) enough, THE FULL MOON STILL ONLY HAS AUTOGEN AS OF THIS EDIT BEING TYPED ON THE 25TH OF JUNE 2024. Why? Why is it the only one without subtitles in S2? Why is S1 still all auto-gen even now, right up until the Kesha-song episode? Spindlehorse continues to confuse and annoy me with their flipflopping on their supposed caring about accommodation.

Aaaaa, hi!! I'm the anon who sent in the fairly recent ask with the Guide!Reader ideas (martial artist mention, Dehydrated Ganon, strength possibilities, Ganon not being able to escape from Guide!Reader's voice, etc)! I'm really glad that you liked my ideas so much!! 😊 I was so pleasantly surprised to see you expand on my discombobulated thoughts, haha! Thank you so much! ^w^ I loved reading them!!
I said that I made memes for the Guide!Reader/Space Orc concept, and now I shall deliver them >:D Firstly, I'm super sorry that I took so long to share these with you!! Life decided to kick me in the shins for a hot second 😭 And secondly, I made a LOT of images for this one,, Fair warning, this is going to take up a lot of space 😭 orz
But anyway!! Here are the text memes first:
Guide!Reader: We’re playing Scrabble. It’s a nightmare.
Wars: Scrabble? Scrabble’s great.
Guide!Reader: Not when you’re playing with Zelda, it’s not. She’s out here putting in words like “ephemeral” while I’m putting in “dog.”
Guide!Reader: *pointing out Magic Powder* Legend, look, it’s the good kush!
Legend: …This is the Rupee Store, how good can it be?
Ravio: Hi, welcome! Are you part of our Super Savers Shoppers Club?
Guide!Reader: No, I’m not.
Ravio: :D :) :| Oh.
Legend, looking into a banged-up Water Temple: …It’s trash.
Time, whenever Guide!Reader uses modern slang: We need IRL subtitles. What are you even saying.
Guide!Reader: My Furby died in my arms when I was a child.
Hyrule, has no clue what a Furby is: I’m so sorry for your loss.
Guide!Reader: It wasn’t a loss. I had never felt more like a god.
The Chain: *getting told off by Time*
Guide!Reader in the back: …
Guide!Reader: *starts playing the ukulele* 👁👄👁 🎸
Time: 🧍
Four, talking about Guide!Reader: So, I’m interested in someone…
Dot: :D Oooh! What do they look like?
Four: *slow realisation*
Four: I don’t know
Dot: Wh
Dot: What do you mean you don’t know?
Guide!Reader/Ganon, about hearing Guide!Reader every dang game: The universe has a sense of humour, and I respect the commitment to the bit, but girl please.
Guide!Reader, to Link once they reunite with the Chain: Now… *puts hand on his shoulder* We’re back on our bullsh*t.
Guide!Reader and Wild, meeting Sidon for the first time:
Guide!Reader: …Would.
Wild: Would what?
Guide!Reader:
Wild: (Name)? Would what?
Wind: When you become famous you’re called a legend because your leg ends.
Guide!Reader: What?
Wind: Your leg. It ends.
Guide!Reader: I’m not a linguist, but I think you’ve got it wrong.
Wind: Are you saying your leg doesn’t end?
Guide!Reader: I mean, at some point it does, yes.
Wind: Then what’s the problem?
The Chain, waking up at dawn to get ready:
Guide!Reader and Sky, just trying to process being alive:
Guide!Reader/Time: You need to get out of bed faster than this.
Sky, struggling: I’m giving it all he’s got, boss
Guide!Reader at Ganon: Your anger amuses me. Please don’t find inner peace. Please.
Guide!Reader, playing through LoZ game: *at an annoying NPC* Let me ask you a very fair question. What do you do successfully? Quickly. :|
Link, trying not to laugh:
Hyrule, probably: I hate it when a recipe tells me to add two cups of onions. They don’t come in cups. They come in onions.
Guide!Reader, head in hands: Please
Hyrule/Twilight, looking at two NPCs: Are they lovers?
Guide!Reader, who knows the lore: Worse.
The Chain, enjoying Guide!Reader’s affections:
Legend: 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️
Legend, defending himself from the “You like him” allegations from Wind: 🤸🤸🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️
And now, onto the images- I hope you don't think the sheer amount of these memes is too excessive or anything!! 😭 /gen

I think I may be experiencing near normal hearing for the first time in my life thanks to the NHS. These are seven generations and 16 years more up to date than the 1st gen digital aids I was using until two days ago, and they are also tuned to my current hearing loss rather than what I had 12 years ago. Since putting them in my ears I have had innumerable remarkable experiences entirely new to me and of such depth I have been brought to happy tears.
I have heard my children’s voices in all their beautiful nuances, I have discovered classical music, I have watched TV without needing subtitles, and realised that the uneven gaps between songs whilst streaming music is not a connectivity issue - there is actually sound there. I’ve been to a lecture and understood every word without effort, I’ve listened to birds, and I’ve also discovered people convey subtle emotion through voice that I was previously unable to detect.
I’ve also been asked to describe what it was like to my philosophy class and found myself lacking the words to explain to hearing people what it is like to enter their world as a novel experience. Since then, I’ve been trying to figure out analogies. So, imagine you have contact lenses that made your vision tetrachromic while you were wearing them or a drug that gave you a high heightening one of your senses to superhuman levels while it was in your system. Either of these would surely be a magical experience.
I am super excited about all the things I am now going to be able to hear in the future. I want to listen to all the things! That’s something I never thought I’d say. Unaided, people’s voices are partially audible for me and I must work hard to make up the difference. With my old aids, they became more comprehensible but also unpleasant and almost painful to listen to, so I hated wearing them. Now, they are the most interesting type of sound.
The underfunding of the NHS has, obviously, imposed years of unnecessary disability upon me through neglect and out-dated technology. Some say money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy hearing aids and similar cool things for disabled people. If you have one, use your vote wisely.

hey so, genuine question that i hope doesn't read as offensive as that's not my intention - why d'you need an image description so much/reblog stuff with pretty much exclusively image id's? /nm /gen (not mad, genuine - tone indicators just in case.)
It's no problem at all. No question asked in good faith is an offensive question.
Image descriptions are an accessibility tool for people who need help engaging with visual media- be it due to visual impairment, something that affects visual processing, or even just poor connection- just like how subtitles help people engage with auditory media. Some people use screenreaders to narrate the digital text to them while others might only need to enlarge the text on their screen to read the image description(the second question I usually get is "how do people read an image description if they can't see?").
While I myself don't need image descriptions, I care a lot about accessibility. It's not fair that some people get to use the internet but some people don't just because of a disability. So I do my best to promote accessibility on my own blog while also trying to promote it to other people as well.

Understanding other countries requires more than studying them from afar. This fundamental fact is hardly news. In the 18th and 19th centuries, young people conducted a grand tour of other countries to get to know them better (and, by extension, their own countries). Over the past few decades, all manner of universities have launched semester-abroad programs that make such learning extremely easy.
But increasingly, young Americans with foreign-policy and national-security ambitions are eschewing interaction with foreign countries and even foreign individuals. They want security clearances, and they know that any foreign exposure will complicate matters. This intellectual isolationism risks severely harming U.S. foreign and security policy—just when an acceleratingly unstable world needs able U.S. officials.
Understanding other countries is a daunting and sometimes humbling experience. For the most part, the first step involves attempting to communicate in a foreign language. One can improve one’s abilities by watching movies and television from the countries in question, or by reading newspapers or listening to the radio.
As a teenager, I improved my German by reading Bild-Zeitung whenever I got access to it (Bild was easier reading than Der Spiegel and Die Zeit, to which I later graduated). Later on, I worked on my Italian by watching Italian movies without subtitles. To this day, I regularly listen to RAI (Italian radio), both to keep myself informed and to improve my linguistic abilities.
But even if one does speak the desired foreign language well, one can only understand the country in which it’s spoken by living there for an extended period of time. It involves learning that country’s culture and cultural references, and preferably understanding its society and politics. “I don’t drink coffee, I take tea, my dear,” Sting sang in Alien in New York. But when in Rome, do as the Romans do. Or try, at least.
As an expat, one will always be in the minority. Frequently, one won’t get cultural references, or one will misunderstand them. That has happened to me countless times ever since I moved abroad in my first year of university (I’ve remained abroad ever since). It’s frequently humiliating and exasperating, though it is, of course, often enormously educational. And learning a bit of humility is not a bad side benefit of getting to know another country.
Starting in the late 1600s, young Europeans of means considered the grand tour a must in their civic education, and subsequent generations have also appreciated the value of interacting with other countries. The United States’ Gen Z appreciates it too. Indeed, many of the best and brightest among America’s Gen Z want to make a career out of foreign affairs and international security. They want it so much that they map out their next steps at an early stage. Those steps include applying to the finest U.S. graduate programs in foreign affairs and national security.
Once they’ve arrived in these fine institutions of higher learning, the world is their oyster, right? Not so much. In recent months, I’ve been hearing more and more from professors of international affairs that their students are so focused on getting security clearances for their hoped-for government jobs that they’re forgoing foreign contacts. They’re opting out of study-abroad opportunities and avoiding friendships with foreign students.
Princeton undergraduates’ choices of what field to major in give a good indication of ambitious college students’ thinking. In 2022, the university’s six regional concentrations—which include German, French and Italian, and East Asian Studies—were among the school’s 10 least popular concentrations, the Daily Princetonian reported.
For the third year running, the most popular concentrations were computer science, the School of Public and International Affairs, economics, and operations research and financial engineering. Last academic year (the most recent available), meanwhile, Princeton had a total of one Master’s student in German, two in Slavic languages, four in French and Italian, and six in East Asian Studies. It had no Master’s students in Spanish and Portuguese.
Last fall, George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, which produces “leading experts in business, security, diplomacy, public service, development, conflict resolution, public health, and other fields,” ended its Master’s in European and Eurasian Studies.
During the Cold War, Washington took knowledge of other countries extremely seriously. Universities offered area studies, in which students specialized in, yes, a specific area of the world—and that included learning not just the relevant languages, but the culture and politics, too, not to mention spending time there. Because the government valued such expertise, area experts could look forward to a good career. American students often spent half a year or a year in East Germany, in the Soviet Union, in Poland.
Today, few such programs remain, and even when they’re offered, students—with careers and security clearances in mind—steer clear of them. “My cursor hovered lovingly over ‘East Asian Studies’ (EAS) for a few seconds; then, with a firm finality, I scrolled down and clicked on ‘School of Public and International Affairs’ (SPIA). One last click, ‘submit form,’ and the deed was done,” a Princeton student named Vincent Jiang wrote in the Daily Princetonian last spring.
Today’s ambitious young men and women in top graduate programs will no doubt get their security clearances, and they’re certain to land good jobs in foreign and security policy, too. But what knowledge will they bring? The United States’ many Iranian Americans and Chinese Americans, meanwhile, would be ideal recruits to the CIA or the NSA. They, though, have a reduced chance of getting security clearances to begin with.
With limited exposure to friendly and unfriendly countries, the next generation of diplomats and intelligence officials unlikely have the kind of knowledge Washington needs. That’s a great pity. During the height of globalization, when many a country gave the impression of moving in a Westerly direction, the United States might have been able to get away with insufficient understanding of its fellow nations. But with the geopolitical standoff between Western countries and a China-led grouping intensifying, with the Middle East on the brink of escalating conflict, and with Russia menacing its neighbors, Washington needs such knowledge.
Meanwhile, traffic in the other direction is proceeding briskly—indeed, it’s exploding. In the 2021-22 academic year (the latest year available), British universities had 680,000 foreign students compared to 2.18 million students from the U.K. The former included 152,000 from China and 17,630 from Hong Kong. Nearly 127,000 Indians were studying in Britain, too, as were 9,000 Saudis and even 15 North Koreans. By contrast, a mere 23,000 Americans were studying in Britain. (Already in 2017-2018, the total number of foreign students in the U.K. was extremely high, at 470,000.) At U.S. universities, the percentage of foreign students has grown by 149 percent since 1976—but by only 47 percent since 2010.
Many of the foreigners enroll at Western universities through programs funded by their governments. Indeed, this month a British investigation into concerns that foreigners were exploiting higher education as a way of getting work in the country found that the vast majority of them were, in fact, bona fide students.
Expertise gained from books and television is fine, but woefully inadequate for people who make decisions about foreign and security policy. Yes, well-trained U.S. diplomats and intelligence officers send good information back to Washington. Even they, though, suffer from the same cultural myopia as their graduate-student brethren, often serving in foreign countries whose languages they don’t speak.
Indeed, many a diplomat seems to prefer life inside the embassy compound than out in the field. And even the most insightful diplomatic dispatches are of little use if the recipients back home possess a Washington-centric view of the world. There are many people in recent U.S. administrations who would have benefited massively from living in other countries.
Granted, new espionage legislation in Russia and China makes living there daunting for Americans and other Westerners. But it’s still possible. And there are countless other countries future U.S. officials ought to know from more than reading and remote viewing.
“Make area studies cool again,” as the Daily Princetonian headline urged. Amen to that—and to real knowledge about other countries. Not because such knowledge needs a “cool” label, but because it’s indispensable.

How has the MLB fandom personally affected your day-to-day life, and what were the major things you used to do, in the fandom in your first year, that you no longer do.
I have way less free time thanks to the MLB fandom! And I wrote a novel! Yes, it's unpublishable as it is fanfiction, but I WROTE A NOVEL! Something I'd decided I wanted to do before I turned 40. And people like it?? SPLENDIFEROUS.
The big thing I used to do my first year that I (almost) no longer do is participate on the MLB subreddit, which is extremely toxic IMO. Just an absolute shit experience if you like the show. It often felt like I was one of the few people there who didn't hate it. It was not a happy time and place to be a fan!
I am there way less now. I'm so busy writing my fanfiction (like A Small but Stubborn Fire) that I can barely keep up with reading the fics I like (shout out @uptoolateart @wehadabondingmoment @nemaliwrites @raspberrycatapult @wackus-bonkus-maximus @monpetitchattriste @pisoprano @wield-the-mighty-pen @sing-in-me-oh-muse AND SO MANY MORE(seriously see attached screenshot how HUGE my backlog of subscribed fic chapters I have to catch up on!), let alone go get flamed on Reddit for daring to suggest that Marinette is fundamentally a good person.
For your reading "enjoyment," my autobiography
No one actually cares, but I'm on roll.
I was a huge anime fan in the 90s and early 00s. But then I moved to Japan and realized most anime is crap (just like most of any country's TV output is crap). But subtitles often make things sound more profound than the original. Fortunately yet unfortunately, I stopped needing them. (Plus the novelty of it that went away once I was in-country.)
So for about 10–15 years, I didn't watch any anime. Maybe a Ghibli or Satoshi Kon movie now and then.
Then sometime around the pandemic, maybe a bit before, I gave Naruto a go on Netflix after I'd seen a gazillion memes of geeks running strangely in parks. NFLX only had the first half, not Shippuden, so there was no closure for me. I decided to go to the fanfiction world after DECADES of not reading fanfiction. Like, I left the fanfiction world when I was reading Ranma 1/2, so the late 90s?
Anyway, there weren't websites for fanfiction back then. We used USENET. RAAC (rec.arts.anime.creative), specifically.
So I had to legit google to see where you went for fanfiction these days since, as you might have noticed, USENET is nigh on dead now, right? Gen Z out here asking "what is a usenet"
I discovered FFN and eventually Ao3. I kinda wore myself out of Naruto and decided to check out MLB fanfiction since I'd been watching it with my kids and I think we were waiting for the second half of S3 to show up on Netflix.
FUCKING HOOKED. CUE THE HYPERFIXATION.
So my first year deep in the fandom I was reading fanfiction constantly. Just a ridiculous amount. I think I might get the silver medal for amount consumed.
Anyway I'm getting tired of writing about myself (kind of a shocker actually), which means NO ONE is reading this far into what I've written. Point is, I got persuaded through some conversations to submit for the @mlbigbang and I wrote around 75K words and here I am.
FYI this is not reflective of the quality of my writing seriously go read my story, I will give you a refund if you don't like it
EDIT I FORGOT THE SCREENSHOT

oooo 2016-2019 I was super into Contestshipping ( @drewxmay) and recently I've been curious about the original Japanese versions of those episodes with accurate subtitles, since 4Kids is infamous for making huge changes everywhere. Do you know where I could watch these versions?
Hello!!!! I sure do! HUGE thank-you to @matchacreamlatte though, who is the one who showed me this! I love contestshipping tumblr. We've got a whole network of skillsets here. I feel like if I needed to fix my washing machine, one of you guys would have my back. Anyways, yes! First off, you'll need to download VLC Media Player right here! open-source, free, safe, 10/10. I PROMISE this isn't as hard as it looks, and I'm totally happy to explain further or differently if this is confusing!!!
NEXT! You'll need to download the mp3 files of the episodes. Use this link here! Also safe to download from- I'm VERY VERY CAUTIOUS with what I download, so you can trust me here. I do all my schoolwork on this computer, I refuse to risk getting viruses on it.
So! Once you're there, here's what you do. SOME of them work if you just select them in the line up, but others you need to actually download to watch. So, let's say we want to watch the final ep of the Kanto Grand Festival- Channeling the Battle Zone. First off, go to bulbapedia and find what the japanese title/number of the episode is. For this one, it's AG182- Haruka VS Shū! The Final Battle!!. So, go here! green highlight. Click show all.
Tumblr media
Now, we're here. click ctrl+f and put in the episode number or title! probably number is easiest. BUT DO BE AWARE THAT THE NUMBERS ARE A BIT OFF- I think there was one japan only rleease that was never official so the numbering is slightly disjointed here and on bulbapedia? idk. BUT putting in the bulbapedia-given number should get you close enough that you can scroll to the right one, like so. We want to download the mp4 file! Again, it's a number off from the bulbapedia one. Keep that in mind.
Tumblr media
So, download specifically the mp4! If you click on it it'll take you here. Sometimes this has the sub, sometimes the text won't show, but downloading it ensures the sub plays. Also, download in case these ever get taken off of internet archive. If we lose these then idk where else we could go.
Tumblr media
Now! open VLC media player and go here. Media> open file> downloads > downloaded episode file > open!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND HERE WE GO!!!
Tumblr media
Finally, if this doesn't work, let me know what episodes you want and I can just screen record them and upload them!

Watching Heeramandi is realy making me appreciate Urdu because the actors speak in such a beautiful Urdu and the characters have beautiful Urdu names. Sometimes with Urdu amidst all the roman Urdu usage online and how Lahore(my family's city)'s pollution and poverty doesn't capture it's historically-held beauty. And my Pakistani culture is one of my biggest prides it's jsut that I don't associate other aspects of our culture which I love such as our food and clothing with Urdu for some reason unlike our history etc (idk exactly what is making that part of my brain tick.) And as I was watching this my dad (2nd gen Pakistani) mentioned that his sisters are jealous of how his Urdu has gotten noticeably better than theirs (it used to be worse) (and yes they are all adults lol). Too bad the subtitles aren't available in Urdu because that could accelerate my Urdu learning and I never felt the need to learn the Hindi writing system as a Muslim-origin Pakistani. I finished episode 1 a few minutes ago and I can definitely see myself rewatching this series 💚💚💚

Commenting on the SXSG leaks, though not getting too specific
I'm not adding any links or images since I personally don't want to distribute these leaks, but twitter user (@)MSROPls is the source.
I've gone back and forth on if the leaks are accurate because there are inconsistencies, such as a screenshot of a cutscene with the subtitles but the video version has the subs cropped out, the delivery of a line being so bad I question if it's AI, one of the scenes using Sonic's Frontiers model, none of the lip-syncing being changed, and the poor video/audio quality.
That said, there's too much. One or two scenes, a screenshot, easily edited. But this amount of info? It's accurate. Also they recently admitted to recording a Discord call of a person who actually had access to the game, so it wasn't their footage, but still real.
Honestly? I'm torn. On one hand, yeah Gens is THE callback game. If you're going to do nudge winks at people, it is the game to do it.
A rehash of the faker scene should be appealing to my SA2-nostalgia-loving-ass, even at 13. I want to like it, you have no idea how many times I've watched that clip trying to convince myself to like it.
I don't have an inherit problem with callbacks either, so logically I should be fine or even like what's in the leaked clips. So why don't I?
Gens was the latest release when I was getting into Sonic, I was like 13 so it was a very different time. I was always disappointed Gens didn't have much of a story. If this was what the original script was, I probably would've been all over it, right?
Yet I find it flat at best and the bad cringe at worst. Original Gens I just thought was lacking substance, but this is so...forced.
It's not cool. It's not funny. It doesn't meaningfully add to the interactions.
I also have to ask why these changes were made. Why does Tails need to mention West Side Island and question if the Time Eater caused this? What was wrong with him saying the pink water made him nervous? Why does Amy need to insist she's not a damsel in distress by stating next time, she'll save Sonic? What does this change really do?
It's kind of hard to judge until I'm able to see the full, final piece, but knowing how this 13-year-old story ends, I don't see how this will add anything. It's like replacing dialogue that was fine (not outstanding, just fine) with filler text. They spent resources on this? I just don't get the logic behind it.
I've already been iffy on this game, but I just hope the final product comes together in a satisfying way. We'll see when I eventually play it.

Hi 👋🏻 @anemoiawithatouchofobsession I've recently been getting into the 80s and 90s K-pop songs and kdramas, but I don't know where to start. Do you have any recommendations on where I should start?
I love your posts, by the way. Keep going 😊🫰🏼
BESTIEEEEEEE LUV YA FOR THISSS
Sooo I'll try and keep it general. I got into the 80s and 90s through 1st gen Kpop (whoch is late 90s - 2000s kpop) and working my way backwards- but that might not work for everyone.
I would say, let YouTube do your thing. There are a lot of compilations and playlists, some are specific, some are general.
You will have to search in Korean because 99% of the content on 80-90s Kpop is in Korean, like so :
"80년대" if you want the 80s, "90년대" if you want the 90s or "8090년대" for both.
If you're specific, you can add "남자" for specifically songs by male artists, or "여자" for female artists.
Then your genre (Ballad : 발라드/Rock : 락/Dance : 댄스/Folk : 포크/Trot : 트로트)
Then you want to search for a compilation so you can add "노래모음". Literally means song compilation. Then you'll get a few compilation videos, and you can listen to it. Pick out songs and artists which you like, and slowly start building your own playlist and taste!
For example : 80년대 댄스곡 노래모음 gives you this result page. I personally love love THIS compilation of stages - also helps you to get into the artists and their performances and all.
If you just want to dive right in randomly, you can just hit random and search "8090년대 명곡 베스트" (8090s hit songs best") and let a bunch of compilation vidss take you wherever. Or there are compilation albums on YT and YT music that are supposed to have the "Best Of". Albums such as "7080 명동연가" or "7080 회상" are a good starting point,
And then, literally - just let the algorithm take over. When you're on spotify, click on the "realted artists" section or on YouTube Music look in the "related" tab...
You might have to have a translator at hand or learn how to read Hangul. Or you can ask me! Hehe.
For dramas... this is a bit harder since you need subtitles and allat. I would literally just go on MyDramaList and search for certain actors, scroll to their dramas section and just pick one that has a streaming source linked. YouTube has a lot, and SBS-KBS-MBC are currently re-uploading and re-broadcasting a lot of their older dramas. KBS's oldschool channel is here, MBC's is here and SBS's is this one
If you want recommendations, I'm good for early-to-mid 90s dramas and it seems like @seulpeunballad knows a bit about late 90s dramas. MDL is your best bet though. A lot of 90s fans there.
My MDL profile is also slowly starting to build some "Best Of" lists for notable 80s-90s talents, so here you go too!
