I love how this one came out looking like a chaotic coral reef.

This one looks like a wildfire to me, which was fitting at the time I made it. Unintentional, but fitting.

it's one of my fave surfaces to do prints on because it really grabs the paint and the transparency makes for a cool effect

If you'd like to get into geli plate printing there's a TON of resources online, so even if I gave into my urge to write up a tutorial the effort would be superfluous. But feel free to hit me up with questions.

Experimental Geli Plates [PRINT]

Making these plates was a huge test of patience. Really had to adopt the lighthearted print attitude of enjoying the process! It was a case of fifth time lucky trying to coax mine out of it’s tuppaware. It would tear each time and I had to hold back a scream.

It’s a fun medium to play with. Although the squelching sound (is that normal?) was quite unnerving, there’s a lot of potential to build up interesting and detailed textures through the layers.

Print - Gelli Plates

First I made the Geli Plate, but the gelatine didn’t dissolve enough and the surface was rough. I had to melt it down twice until I got the right soft surface.

I had some silicon mats that worked well. But the bubble wrap not so well. I chopped a plate up into circles as it’s fits with my project and being stuck in 5km radius. They look like bubbles.

My second attempt with the Geli plate, I melted down and remoulded the original plate I had made in a circular dish, and it worked far better than the first one had. With this set of prints, I used a limited colour palette of oranges and blues and experimented with layering prints on top of each other, cutting out paper shapes, using string and pieces of ribbon. I was really happy with the look of these prints and decided to experiment further with the Geli plate the following day.

Print Workshop: Geli Plates

I followed Fionas workshop to make a surface to print on using gelatin and glycerine.

Once the mixture had set I trimmed it down to a more manageable size and began printing with it.

Overall I was quite happy with how the prints turned out. This was a messy process but the results are very interesting.
