Originally published in 1914, Jesus-la-Caille (Jesus the Quail) follows a homosexual pimp through the seedy underbelly of Belle Epoque Paris. It's characters are working class and make their livings off robbery and prostitution and it's locations the seedy bars, filthy hotels and streets dimly lit by gaslight. Between raids by the vice squad and assassinations, the reader moves into a dark universe evoked in the slang of the time.

Jesus-la-Caille is the first French novel to openly address homosexuality .
