I’m really upset by the upcoming functionality loss as apparently tumblr is getting rid of the desktop post editor and switching to the crappy mobile one. But I’ve seen NO posts about this? Am I the only one? They’re basically killing gifsets (don’t work properly on the new editor) and fucking over artists with crappier image quality and I’ve just seen… silence? The archive will be worse as post types won’t exist anymore? No copying multiple paragraphs? A hint that old posts soon won’t be editable? I have over a decade of posts here and I do NOT want to lose access to them. Like I’m fucking panicking cause this WILL really hurt fandom, the group tumblr has been most trying to cater to. Like I think between this and other social media sites going down the tubes, I feel like fandom as a whole will not exist in a few years at this rate. I’m not trying to spread panic, I genuinely feel this way unless some other site comes along or staff gets their heads out of their assess
So poll (which ironically don’t work in the desktop editor although it’d be literally so easy to implement)
#like am I wrong for thinking that between this#and twitter’s problems#and how discords with enough people to be regularly active become toxic#plus the inherent issue with discord being gated communities#plus every other site either being dangerous due to under preparedness or just straight predatory so there are no other choices#like is fandom even gonna exist in 5 years?#I feel like I’m watching it die in real time#and here I was feeling kinda bad for tumblr and thinking about giving them money but FUCK THAY#I hope this site dies fuck the new owners fuck everyone for destroying the last decent place on the internet#fandom IS my social life and my stress relief and I don’t think it will be a thing soon at this rate#and I really just. cannot fucking handle that right now#so tell me if I’m wrong and if you agree with me PLEASE fucking complain to tumblr so they realize what a mistake this is#text#misc#polls#shut up nerd#new layout stuff

Five Key Questions to Ask Before Investing in Real Estate
Before investing in real estate, it's important to ask the right questions to ensure you make an informed decision. Here are five key questions to consider:
1. What is the location's potential for long-term growth?
Why it matters: A property's location plays a huge role in its future value. Research the area's growth trajectory, infrastructure plans, job market, and development projects. Consider the neighborhood's safety, proximity to amenities, schools, transportation, and overall appeal to renters or buyers.
What to ask: What are the long-term development plans for the area? Is the neighborhood expected to gentrify or face decline?
2. What are the current market conditions and trends?
Why it matters: Understanding the current market cycle (whether it's a buyer's or seller's market) and local real estate trends (rising or falling property values, rental demand, etc.) helps assess the timing of your investment.
What to ask: Is this a good time to buy in this market? How have property prices and rents changed over the past few years?
3. What are the property's financials and expenses?
Why it matters: To evaluate the potential return on investment (ROI), you need to understand the property's income-generating potential and its ongoing costs.
What to ask: What are the property’s operating costs (maintenance, taxes, insurance, utilities, etc.)? What is the expected rental income or resale value?
4. What is the condition of the property, and what repairs or renovations are needed?
Why it matters: Properties may require repairs or upgrades that could eat into your initial investment or future profits. It's crucial to assess the property's physical condition before purchasing.
What to ask: What is the age of the property and its major systems (roof, HVAC, plumbing, electrical)? What is the estimated cost of any necessary repairs or renovations?
5. What are the risks associated with this investment?
Why it matters: Every real estate investment carries risks, from market downturns to unforeseen maintenance issues. It's essential to identify and understand the risks you're taking on.
What to ask: What could go wrong with this investment (e.g., market fluctuations, tenant turnover, vacancies, unexpected repairs)? What contingency plans or insurance policies do I need?
By answering these questions, you can better assess whether a particular real estate investment aligns with your financial goals, risk tolerance, and market knowledge.

The Ultimate Guide For Finding The Best Real Estate Agent In 2023
Investing in real estate, especially when it comes to purchasing the best plots in Vizag, requires careful consideration and expert guidance. Working with a knowledgeable and reliable real estate agent can make all the difference in finding the perfect property. Whether you're looking for gated community plots in Vizag, gated community layouts, VUDA-approved plots in Visakhapatnam, or any other real estate plots in Vizag, having the right agent by your side can streamline the process and ensure a successful transaction. In this ultimate guide, we'll explore the essential steps to finding the best real estate agent in 2023, who can help you achieve your real estate goals.
One of the most effective ways to find a reputable real estate agent is through referrals from trusted sources. Seek recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues who have recently worked with an agent in Vizag or have experience in the local real estate market. They can provide valuable insights into their agent's professionalism, responsiveness, and knowledge. Additionally, you can also consider online reviews and testimonials to gauge the reputation of potential agents.
Research Local Market Expertise: When it comes to investing in Vizag's real estate, it's crucial to find an agent with a deep understanding of the local market. Look for agents who specialize in Vizag's real estate market, particularly in areas that interest you, such as gated community plots in vizag or VUDA-approved plots. A knowledgeable agent will have extensive information about property values, market trends, amenities, and potential growth in specific neighborhoods. They can guide you towards the best real estate plots in Vizag that align with your preferences and investment goals.
Evaluate Experience and Track Record: Experience matters when selecting a real estate agent. Assess the agent's track record and the number of years they have been in the industry. Experienced agents often have a vast network, established relationships with developers, and a proven ability to negotiate favorable deals. Their expertise can help you navigate the complexities of buying real estate plots in Vizag, ensuring a smooth and successful transaction.
Verify Licensing and Credentials: To protect your interests and ensure professionalism, it's crucial to verify the licensing and credentials of potential real estate agents. Check if the agent holds a valid license and if they are a member of recognized real estate associations or organizations. These affiliations often indicate a commitment to ethical practices and ongoing professional development.
Interview Multiple Agents: Don't hesitate to interview multiple agents before making a decision. Prepare a list of questions to gauge their knowledge, communication skills, availability, and approach to client representation. Ask about their experience with gated community plots, VUDA-approved plots, or any other specific type of real estate plots in Vizag that interest you. Assess their responsiveness and willingness to understand your requirements. This step will help you compare different agents and choose the one who aligns best with your needs.
Seek Local Market Insights: During the interview process, take the opportunity to seek local market insights from potential agents. Inquire about recent market trends, upcoming developments, and potential investment opportunities in Vizag. A well-informed agent will be able to provide valuable guidance on choosing the best real estate plots that offer long-term value and growth potential.
Evaluate Communication and Availability: Effective communication and availability are vital when working with a real estate agent. Evaluate how responsive and accessible the agents are during the interview process. A good agent will prioritize your inquiries and keep you informed throughout the buying process. Clear and timely communication will ensure that you stay updated on new listings, market changes, and the progress of your transaction.
Check References: To gain further confidence in your chosen real estate agent, ask for references from their past clients. Reach out to these references to inquire about their experience working with the agent. Ask about their satisfaction with the agent's professionalism, negotiation skills, and overall effectiveness in facilitating a successful real estate transaction.
Finding the best real estate agent in 2023 is essential when investing in real estate plots in Vizag, including gated community plots, gated community layouts, or VUDA-approved plots. By starting with referrals, researching local market expertise, evaluating experience, verifying licensing, interviewing multiple agents, seeking local market insights, assessing communication and availability, and checking references, you can make an informed decision and secure a trusted professional to guide you through the process.

SEA'S COMMUNITY COMPENDIUM UPDATE
We have a massive one today! Huge thanks to a close friend of mine who sent me every single bookmark of xiv resources she had. 💖
Additionally, a good handful of these resources were sourced from a list originally created by @rinhkitty, which you can find here. I have tried to include the more recent/active of the lot, so it's not a one-for-one. Thank them for a lot of the large scale resources you'll find below! ✨
As of 04/12, I have added the following resources (in no particular order) to Sea's Community Compendium for FFXIV Creatives:
LARGE SCALE
GARLAND TOOLS — Contains XIV resources such as Garland Data, everything database, crafting lists and equipment calculators; Garland Bell, gathering timers, collectable resources and hunt windows; and FFXIV Fisher, daily fishing windows, bait paths and catch checklist. Maintained by Clorifex Ezalor of Zalera.
TEAMCRAFT — Create crafting lists and collaborate with others, set gathering alarms, simulate crafting rotations, and more!
CAT BECAME HUNGRY - FFXIV ANGLER — Contains everything and anything to know about fishing including specific fish guides, location, baits, aquarium fish and more!
FFXIV - CRAFTING AS A SERVICE — Crafting information and planning for FFXIV!
FFXIV GARDENING — The FFXIV Gardening Database is a collection of everything related to gardening in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. It was created to organize and visualize the results obtained from crossbreeding.
SIGHTSEEING LOG HELPER — This tool will help those trying to complete their pesky Sightseeing Log by letting them know upcoming weather patterns for each zone!
EUREKA TRACKER — For everything and anything to do with Eureka mobs, tracking and weather patterns.
FFLOGOS — for tracking of items/actions related to Eureka.
FFXIVSQUADRON — A comprehensive tool that helps you assess the success rate of various squadron missions.
FFXIV CHOCOBO COLOUR CALCULATOR — Will calculate what chocobo feed you will need to get from your current colour to your desired colour. *rng not included.
FFXIV HOUSING — A site specialising in the documentation of all housing items available in game.
HOUSING SNAP — A compilation of player-made housing designs. Can be used for inspiration or places to visit!
MISC
NPC CHAT BUBBLES — Would you like more NPC chat bubbles for edits? Say no more! Created by @alexoisxiv.
OLD TUMBLR LAYOUT BY PIXIEL — While not XIV specific I know a lot of people aren't fans of the new Tumblr layout, so this is a fix that will revert it to an as close as possible approximation of the new one. I won't tag the creator as I don't think they're in the xiv community, but it's run by @/pixiel!
HOW TO CURSE LIKE AN ISHGARDIAN — Do you want to make the church blush? Do you want to incur the wrath of Halone? @stars-and-clouds has compiled a list of appropriate curses/swear words for you!
FINAL FANTASY XIV SIDEQUEST GUIDE - HEAVENSWARD EDITION — maintained by @chatty-moogle, this guide explores interesting sidequests in Heavensward that will give you more information about the lore, titbits about locals and other interesting information!
TRUST BANNERS FOR XIV — If you have ever wondered how people mimic the Trust banners used in XIV, look no further! @locke-rinannis has a template for you.
MAKING USE OF RECOMMENDATIONS — created by @autumnslance, this guide will help you make your recommendations tab useful rather than annoying.
BOTANICA EORZEA — A guide to the flora of Eitherys and her reflections, including fungi and seedkin. For reference in writing and roleplaying. Maintained by @tinolqa.
GPOSE TIPS — A tutorial on how to achieve clarity and detail in your XIV screenshots! Created by @aryalaenkha.
UI MACRO MENUS — A guide on how to use macros to create small UI menus for XIV. Written by @diskwrite-ffxiv.
TYPHON GATE RESEARCH — Created by @mcstronghuge, these are the statistically best places for your character to stand for the Typhon Gate!
CHANGELOG
HYDAELYN HEALTH HAVEN has been removed at the request of the owner.
Moved THE BALANCE higher on the list to reflect alphabetical sorting, excluding names that start with The.
Misc formatting as needed.
Added some additional clarification around large-scale discords/spaces; in particular: Large-scale community discords such as the XIV Reddit Discord, Hunts, GPOSE promotions and broad-space roleplay servers that harbour a large number of people and are publicly available to all. These may not have an RP focus but will assist in other aspects of the game. Also includes well-known tools/resources that are utilised by large groups of people and assist in gameplay elements.
Added a quick-jump menu to the bottom of each of the table of contents menus to assist in navigation.
Want to submit? You can either fill out the google form here, send me an ask with the relevant information contained on the Compendium, or join my Discord at SEAFLOOR (21+ only)!
I am sure there's probably a couple of things I have missed or links/formatting that might be broken. Please don't hesitate to let me know if anything is out of place. I'm going to take a break now. I'm pretty sure that's the biggest edit that's ever going to occur on this document!

They're killing me with Echoes.
Some stuff from the exotic mission that is really interesting. I'll start with the stuff you can only get after you've done it once and you can start finding secret chests. On runs after your 1st, there will be a conflux in one of the side rooms that is otherwise empty.
Once you activate that, there will be a small puzzle and then a chest will appear. This will also change the room slightly and activate several Vex portals, turning the room into a sort of a nexus that will be used for other chests. More under, spoilers and long:
This is the room, btw, when you first run it and there's no conflux:
Okay. Although a lot has been altered, they're continuing with the trend of stripping away Mercury for parts: this is the base layout of the inside of the Lighthouse. Kicking and screaming and throwing things and eating through my walls.
Anyway, after you activate the conflux and the puzzle, the extra gates around the area will transform like this and the area will get a name "Ancillary Transit Nexus" :
This will later be used as portals to go into areas with other chests. There's two extra chests this week and we go through two of these portals, but there's a third as well. I'm assuming it might be some sort of a rotation by week.
The second chest you get this week is where the interesting part starts because you return back to this area, use one of the portals and go back to the area where the mission started where you do a puzzle and then get the chest. But when you do all that, you get new voice lines. This time... From Chioma Esi; one of Chiomas that got simulated by the Vex:
Aspect lore book fans stay winning!!!! So this is the format of how different iterations of the 227 simulated Ishtar scientist teams were designated and how they communicated with each other. Two of these teams are also specifically mentioned in Aspect. We don't know about .130 (130th iteration), but we do know .59 and .97. A devastating one for .59:
227.59 You lose Maya. You mourn. The thought of all the other Mayas out there doesn't help. They weren't the Maya you'd puzzled with over living basalt flowers, a world with seventeen moons, a continent that Shim had sworn up and down was sixteenth-century Australia and that Duane-McNiadh couldn't be dissuaded from calling Pangaea. You'd found a simulation with a city where you discovered a jewelry store, picked out a necklace, brought it home to her, and wished her a happy pseudo anniversary. Maya didn't like bracelets, said they always fouled her work. Her hair had been getting shaggy again and was due for a trim. She could never decide whether or not to grow it out. She laughed at you lifting weights to maintain simulated muscle, but she spotted for you all the same. There are other Mayas out there, layers of them, all the way up to the original, wherever she is. You hope they're doing well. But that doesn't stop you from missing this Maya, missing whatever arguments and discoveries you'd have shared in the rest of the lifetime you'd promised to one another. Shim and Duane-McNiadh pull you up from beside Maya's marker. A basalt lily rests on top of it, petals thin enough to let light through. You go on.
And .97:
227.97 Here's how it goes: you and Maya and Shim and Duane-McNiadh take your first cautious, sliding steps out into the Vex information network. You get your footing. You've got to translate everything into metaphor to understand it, here, and this is like tightrope walking on a greased line. You and Maya lean into each other. Shim slips, and you help him up. You explore. You go on.
They're both in the same lore tab. These groups were so distinct between each other and experienced vastly different things, so much that Praedyth could differentiate between the groups and knew which voices belonged to which number of them. These groups communicated with him to coordinate their potential escape.
The interesting bit is that in the voice line from this week we see .130 Chioma calling the Chioma from .59 (the one that lost and buried Maya), asking about the .97 group with whom they've apparently lost contact. And in Aspect, we see the .97 group doing fine. At least here at the beginning. But it appears that the idea is that at some point they either died or simply vanished, as they're not responding.
The third chest is the same; you go to the nexus and from there to another room where there's a puzzle and when you solve it, you get a chest and voice lines, this time from one of the simulated Mayas:
This Maya is from the 65th iteration and she's telling us that a lot of inviduals from each team are vanishing. We don't really know what that means and what is happening, but we do know from Aspect that at the end when they attempted their escape, there were significantly fewer individuals, possibly whole teams either vanished, dead or simply unreachable:
A hundred and sixty Mayas reach for the Chiomas by their side. A hundred and fifty-eight Chiomas reach back.
Down to 160 from 227 is a lot (and only 158 Chiomas). We never really knew what this meant and we still aren't sure now, but this might be an explanation. Something was happening to them in the network.
What makes this even more interesting is that this Maya mentioned "our singular friend." This can be none other than Praedyth. He wasn't a simulated copy, he was just one Praedyth, communicating with them from the Vault of Glass and helping them escape; a singular friend.
One Praedyth, waiting for the conductor's baton to drop.
Interesting word to use in this lore from 5 years ago. There's also no way that this is it and that they won't give us more lines about this because it feels like just the start of the explanation so I'm going absolutely bonkers insane. We have to get more lines next week and the week after since this is also all a way to get the pieces for the exotic gun. And there's one more portal that we haven't gone into so there has to be some sort of rotation and more information on this.
Besides this, the mission had another gut punch with Maya and Chioma, namely showing us Conductor!Maya experiments with Exo!Chioma; basically booting her up and checking her with personal questions until she finds the Chioma she wants. The lines are truly something else:
So that's fine. A few points that are interesting. Parthenogenic incubation! Really interesting look into the Golden Age technology; this is basically a way to reproduce without the need to fertilise an egg which allows for, in this case, two women to have biological offspring. Degaussing is also an interesting word to use; it's a complete destruction of data by affecting the magnetic field on magnetic storage. This is basically what the Veil was doing to Exos to erase them.
That aside, yeah. Maya was booting up Chiomas and testing them, then erasing them if they were proven to be unsatisfactory in some way which is obviously upsetting to Chioma who would at that point be a fully conscious person. She was also being booted in really bizarre hybrid Exo-Vex bodies like this:
Yeah.
Now we need to keep coming back to this place to find out more. I'm hoping for more exceptionally fucked up voice lines like this and also more voice lines about the whole simulated scientists part because there's no way that this is all we'll get. Maya is going through the network, searching through simulations for her Chioma, or at least a Chioma that he thinks is the best of them, as narrated at the start of the act. She wants not only to bring a Golden Age to the whole system, she wants to have her personal Golden Age with the woman she loves.
And ofc at the end with the seasonal lore book page, we get some insight into this as well, more about Maya, her using the Veil, ending up in the Vex Network, making herself a body and how she was looking for Chioma.
I left the reach of the Veil's threads when I collided with the familiar angles of the Vex network… didn't I? Yes, I did.
Maya also seemed genuinely convinced that Chioma would be amazed and proud of this and that she would join her. But we know from Veil Logs that Chioma was instead horrified. And the Maya that entered the network and shaped herself a body and realised that she can command the Vex? Her first impulse was to search for Chioma. I am crying!
"TELL ME HOW LONG HAS PASSED SINCE I LAST ENCOUNTERED THE VEX." They do, through the Vex at my feet; they whisper it in unencoded ease. The number is gargantuan. I begin to panic. It is impossible, and my first thought is of her, her— "TELL ME WHERE CHIOMA ESI IS." They search, and they tell me the woman who holds my heart in her hands has laid in a grave for hundreds of years. In a rage, I tell them to mutilate one another. The milk at my feet boils in violence. My Chioma would not depart so mundanely. My Chioma would come find me, my Chioma is still here. My beloved does not rot in a grave.
And the thing is... She's correct. Her Chioma didn't depart mundanely. We know this from Veil Logs. Chioma called the Vex to take her.
Chioma Esi: Years ago, back on Venus, the Vex simulated copies of us — Maya and I. Trapped in a virtual hell. After so long, even hell can look like heaven, can't it? [chuckles] I'm tired. I'm done. Maya has to be out there. The Maya I remember. And all I want is one more moment with her. To hold her in my arms. Tell her that I love her. So she can tell me to "hush" one more time. If… if we learned anything from the Veil, it's that eventually… we all have to learn to let go. So… I made contact with the Vex. I'm ready. And it's time to say goodbye.
So there's a Maya looking for this Chioma and a Chioma looking for this Maya, somewhere in the network, among other 227 copies of them that have been through so much and some of them are also vanishing. This makes me insane. Hello. From this week's lore tab:
Chioma, my world, my life, cannot be dead. She must have joined the VexNet again; she would have searched for me there, sorted among the hundreds of copies of us to find the TRUE version of myself, HER Maya. So, too, will I search. I love her, I would know her in the darkness of a cave and the blinding glare of a sun. She is unique in all ways, precious and without fault. I know the real Chioma is alive.
Why are we here? Just to suffer about old woman yuri? Yes.
We also now know what "primary query" is:
"PRIMARY QUERY; FIND THE TRUE CHIOMA ESI," I command through my tears.
And yeah, the parallels with Osiris and Saint? So deliberate. I will explode. Osiris noted so a long time ago, also because of Veil Logs, how much Maya was similar to him. And they basically had the same goal; find the person they loved who was lost to them. Except Maya is doing this in a way that's deeply unhinged and hurting Chioma, while Osiris did it also deeply unhinged, but hurting himself. And listening to the Veil Logs and Chioma's perspective affected him greatly and genuinely was one of the biggest points for his development when he realised just how much obsession could've destroyed him and all he loves further if he didn't stop it.
It's all about Chioma and Maya. They're such an important piece of lore literally for ten years and now we're getting so much about them and their interactions together and all the pain and suffering. Please please please this has to end with them reuniting somehow. Please.
Anyway, wanted to point out some of these things that are connecting to older stuff, especially Aspect and also Veil Logs. I will be running this mission maybe another 100 or 10000 times. Looking forward for extra stuff in the next two weeks.

Rabbitt's TWD Halloween '24
Witches and Woos
🐺 Daryl Dixon x reader 🌿
What happens when a witch and a werewolf decide they need the same clearing in the forest where the moon shines brightest.
The community you joined two days ago was a nice one. Or at least it seemed to be, as long as you didn't ask about leaving the gates during the night.
No matter who you asked if it was okay to go out that night the answer was no. And on top of that no one could give you a straightforward reason as to why they weren't letting you go out.
But that didn't stop you from sneaking out over the wall like you saw that kid do the day before.
Once your feet hit the ground you set out to the clearing you passed once before, it was the perfect place to work your magic.
You wanted to return the kindness of allowing you into the community with a blessing of crops, but you needed privacy and moonlight for it so your only option was to go outside the walls on the night of the full moon for the best results.
Your items in your bag made noise as you walked, already a hand against the outside to dampen it and a knife in your hand in case a stray walker came across your path.
You made it to the clearing without any unpleasantries and laid out all of the spell's components. Things were looking like it was going to be a quick and easy job, until a growl startled you.
"Leave." A deep snarling voice sounded as a large beast stepped into the moonlight.
"Shut it, I need to focus." You had spared it only a fraction of a glance before you went back to mixing herbs and taking a knife to your palm.
"These woods are protected. Leave." The beast stepped closer, heavy footfalls on the dirt ground. "I will tear you open."
You looked up at him, barely lifting your head. "You kill me and you'll curse your precious community's crops for the next couple of generations so you better sit your ass down, mutt."
A huff left him as he moved even closer, inspecting your works. "You cast blessings?" He tilted his head, hovering over your carefully arranged items.
"Yes I do, now get out of my goddamn light." With your now bloodied hand you shoved his snout out of reach, leaving a handprint on his nose.
"You are on my lands." He scoffed as he laid down, eyeing your work with great focus.
"Yeah yeah, boo hoo. Doggy wants his field back so he can run around in ghe moonlight. I'll be gone before you know it." You rolled your eyes at him and continued doing your thing, mixing all the spell's ingredients and speaking the needed words in a hushed tone. In the corner of your eye you noticed your canine companion walking off and lay down off to the edge of the clearing.
You moved on with the last bits of your spell and started cleanup when you heard a low grumble from the other end of the clearing where your lycantrophic companion had laid down. Taking him in for a moment you noticed his sleep was restless, panicked energy oozing off him.
With a sigh you sat back down and rummaged through your bag and took out various items, putting together a quick sleeping remedy from herbs. A lavender base with a few other ingredients made a mixture that should help him sleep more calm, so you put it in a small pouch and carefully nestled it between his forearm and cheek.
The next days were quiet ones for you. You had no job yet so all you did was get to know the layout of your new home and get aquainted with the residents.
Here and there you picked up talk of the full moon, and the creature you met but you kept to yourself in fear of letting it slip that you snuck out.
You also spotted someone new walking around a couple days later. He looked scruffy, tired and oddly familiar.
Just familiar until he came up to you and held out a pouch to you. "Guess I owe ya thanks."
You looked the man up and down, now easily recognising his features that matched your werewolf visitor.
"Keep it." You kindly declined the return of your product. "As long as you keep the strings tied it'll stay effective."
"Hmhm, thanks" with a nod a silence fell between the two of you, both unsure how to continue the conversation.
"Well, I guess I'll be heading home." You gave your basket of rations a pat and bid him farewell.
"Yeah, me too." Again he nodded and turned to walk off. In the same direction as you, so you fell into step with him jn silence again.
It wasn't that you hadn't met werewolves before, but this one was different. He wasn't begging you for cures or herbs, hell he even tried to return the pouch you offered him.
"So eh," you needed to break this awkward silence. "How long have you been like that?" You gestured at the pouch he had pocketed and got a long sigh in response as he blew out the smoke from deep in his lungs.
"Forty years, give or take. Was a teen." He gave you a look then. "N'you? When did ya learn?"
You thought back to way before, and your mother. Oh how you missed her. "I was always told to keep nature and its creatures as friends. So my mom taught me from the second I could properly read." You laughed yo yourself. "Man, she would be smiling ear to ear if she learned I made a friend like you."
"Next time ya wanna go outside the walls, jus' ask me." With a short wave he turned up the path that led to his home where a bike sat in an open garage. "Name's Daryl, by the way."
With a wave of your own you gave him your name as well as you confinued on to your place down the street.
Tonight you'd have to light a candle and thank the moon for this meeting.

how to run an OSR game
a while back i made this post to help people who were interested in OSR games but didn't know where to start, explaining the general design philosophy and going over a bunch of different OSR rulesets you can run a game with. so this is a follow-up post about how to actually run these (especially bc not all of them have much actual GM guidance)
note this is a highly opinionated post and some people from the more meatgrinder-y end of the OSR might take issue with this. but this is advice that works extremely well for my games.
how to prep situations and not plots
this is good advice for most games but OSR especially because OSR gameplay is so driven by player scheming: don't ever include "and then the players will..." in your prep, because you do not know what the players will do.
if your prepped scenario hinges on the players taking a specific action or the whole thing falls apart, you're digging your own grave as the GM. trying to account for every action the players can take is a trap, because players are creative and clever and their options are only limited by their ideas. that's the game.
so "prep situations, not plots" has become popular advice in TTRPG communities, especially OSR circles. but how do you actually do that
the most important elements of prep you want to figure out are:
what do all the NPCs involved in this scenario want? what social levers (wants, fears, habits, allegiances, guilty pleasures, relationships) do they have that the players can pull?
what will happen if the PCs never interfere? what conflicts and schemes are brewing in the background?
what locations are there to explore? who and what is inside them, what dangers and treasures are inside?
the best prep is stuff you can't improvise, or stuff that's unsatisfying when improvised. you should probably know monster stats ahead of time, know the layout of dungeons, that sort of thing. elements relevant to challenging the players are important to prep.
stop rolling for everything
coming from nearly any other TTRPG to an OSR game, your instinct when a player says "i want to do X" is "okay, make an X roll" through a skill system or a pbta move or something.
if you do this in an OSR game, you run into problems.
player characters aren't very strong. they have single-digit hit points, few if any class abilities, and whether they're carrying a crowbar, a grappling hook, a lantern, etc. is as impactful as their choice of class.
this is because the game is about using your head more than using your character sheet - the sheet just lists tools to apply your creative thinking to. scheming and managing your resources is the game.
and this means if a player has a clever idea, you should almost never reward them with a die roll to see if they succeed. a skill check is just a random chance of failure. instead most actions should succeed or fail automatically.
here's a good checklist to determine whether something succeeds:
is it something a normal, untrained person could do? if yes, you succeed.
could a normal person do it with the right tools, training and/or time to work? if yes, you succeed if you have any of those things.
if you don't have any of those, you can't. find another approach or get ahold of those conditions for success.
die rolls are for resolving uncertainty and risk. picture a version of 5e where there are no ability checks, only saving throws - dice you roll when something's gone wrong and you're in danger.
which leads into the next point...
communicating information
one of the worst sins of roll-based task resolution is when it's used to determine perception. players making informed decisions is the heart of the game, and they can't do that without information.
give information freely. if your character could know it, they probably do. try to do this too much. never gate information behind a die roll, especially the PC's surroundings.
part of this is always informing the player what is at stake. if a player's in a dangerous enough situation that success comes down to a die roll, you must let them know that before they opt into making that roll, and what the consequences for failure are.
OSR games are about risk management, so tell your players what is at risk when they make those decisions.
entering combat
combat is one of the most dangerous things in an OSR game - it's unpredictable, lethal, and entering it is always a big decision.
if you're coming from a game like 5e, often your first instinct when an encounter occurs is, "roll initiative!" but this is a mistake. you always, even when combat is about to start, ask players for their approach. do they fight? flee? negotiate? surrender?
because combat is so risky, forcing players into it unprompted fundamentally changes the dynamic of your campaign. keep in mind, once combat starts, you don't get any input between rolling initiative and taking your turn. your fate is up to the dice - your tactics matter, sure, but they can't save you from losing initiative, being crit, and dying from bad luck.
if players willingly choose combat as their approach, they should know the risks and what they're getting into. sometimes combat is the best way to achieve your goals, so it'll still happen.
#osr#nsr#d&d#ttrpg#also OSR stands for “old-school renaissance” since someone brought up in my last post that i never clarified that

It's Nice to Have a Friend (Background)
The idea for this story was sparked from the interview Milly Alcock and Emily Carey did on Rhaenyra and Alicent’s young dynamic. As an adolescent growing into your teen years, the relationship with your best friend is so unique. In some ways they hold your world in their hands. You share with them secrets you’d trust to no one else, they’re probably in attendance for some of your most embarrassing moments, they see you in your entirety- good and bad. You want to be around them all the time. You thrive on finding new things to giggle and gossip over. Should they ever want to, they could share these moments and shatter your world. This dynamic follows Y/N and Helaena. Then you toss in the handful of boys consistently present, and you have a pseudo-similar relationship as well. Maybe not as deep, but it’s deeper than that of just a classmate or a friend’s brother who's much older. Proximity has an odd way of binding individuals you may not otherwise have a connection.
This is set in a modern Westeros. Think cannon geographical layout but with cars and cell phones. Governance is democratized. Ruling Houses are now the “old wealth” meaning their wealth is millenia old. Valaryian wealth is the oldest of old money, or if they’re from the free cities (Lys, Meereen, Pentos) then they are considered cultured or exotic as well. Essoss sets much of the beauty and cultural trend. They produce a large amount of luxury goods. Westeros produces the majority of new age commodities. Similar to the Industrial Revolution’s destabilization of high society, in this Westeros some merchant class families gained status by accumulating wealth over the last few centuries. King’s Landing remains the capitol, but now the King’s Woods is full of estates belonging to the previous great houses. It’s THE gated community, country club, rich playground. The University of Westeros, better known as King’s College or Landing’s College is on the opposite end of King’s Landing. It takes well over an hour of traffic to make it from the Woods to King’s College. The Red Keep makes up a large part of the University. The Red Keep is the original King’s College. Additional buildings and the “college town” area make up the broader University.
Ages set at the CHRONOLOGICAL start or when Harwin takes custody of Y/N:
Daeron and Joffrey: 2
Luke: 6
Jace, Aemond, Baela, Rhaena: 10
Y/N and Helaena: 11
Aegon:12
Rhaenyra and Leanor: 34
Harwin and Leana: 36
Alicent: 40
Daemon: 47
Viserys and Rhaenys: 54
Corlys: 56
Otto: 62
This story jumps around quite a bit, so whatever time frame we’re in, do the math.
